The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

”Guess I could stop in for a few minutes.” said Carrick having a feeling that she’d ask him to come in anyways. It was cold and on a cold night like this it was best to be held up in a warm room with tons of blankets and hot coco oh how Carrick was a fan of the hot chocolate. Once she was out of the way Carrick’s hand reached out to the window ledge and grabbed hold as his wings folded to his back with a very ungraceful motion Carrick managed a half somersault into her room.
Sitting on the floor next to the window Carrick smirked and then pulled himself upright to re-examine her room. He had been in her room before and not much as changed even with her move. Carrick was about to ask her to go out with him however he felt his tongue swell up the second the butterflies started flapping about. ”Roomislean!” Carrick blurted out before realizing what he said.
Balling up his hands he hit his head a few times softly, ”Sorry must have been colder than I thought froze me arse off. Meant to say your room looks clean.” ‘That sounds much better’ thought Carrick attempting to build up the small talk before he asked her out on a not-a-date. A grey figure was nestled under his own wing above Liz’s dresser. ”Ohi, Nico!” Carrick said waving to the bird not caring that it was probably sleeping peacefully. Carrick wanted to see if he started spouting off some of the words he had attempted to teach him.
”So… Liz… Carrick said taking a few steps closer to her and Nico before he plucked up the courage to see what she had planned for the night hoping she didn’t have anything set in stone if not he’d try later in the week. ”Y-You don’t have plans or nothing tonight do you?” he asked trying to sound like his usual self ignoring the butterflies for a the moment. ”Super bored and I thought it be fun to do something.”
It was too nice. Carrick stared at himself in the large mirror that was his roommates and turned slightly to look at the holes his mother had sewn into his new sweater. It was far nicer than anything he had owned but when he got it in the mail his mother had said it was time he’d start looking like the angel he was. His mother's words not his. Carrick smirked slightly in his reflection reading those words over in his mind again. His mother really did spoil him something that he never took for granted.
Carrick thought the reason she had sent it was because Liz was back a few weeks ago she had returned to the mansion and the first thing his mother said to him when she found out was ‘ask her out on a real date’ something that ruffled Carrick’s feathers after trying to convince her that wasn’t how things were between them Carrick found himself doing things he normally didn’t do.
The biggest thing he did differently was pick-up ice-skating after he had heard someone saying that Elizabeth loves to skate. That was reason enough to learn it if it was something Liz liked to do he figured he could like it as well and it turned out that the professor with the eye-patch was more than happy to teach him how to skate when he said he was learning to try and impress a friend who happened to be a girl but was in no way shape or form his girlfriend.
The next thing that started to change was Carrick’s attendance in his classes he actually started to go and his grades had showed improvement. Carrick didn’t do any of the homework but he still attended most of his class a few of them happened to be with Liz which in Carrick’s mind was completely unrelated. Other than practicing ice-skating instead of flying as much and attending class the next biggest thing Carrick had done was actually attempt to make himself look decent for tonight. Which was why he was staring at himself in the mirror with his new sweater on. Carrick tussled his hair around till it looked like he put little effort into it old habits were hard to break and while he had dressed nicely he figured getting a haircut would have been too much.
Tonight wasn’t really anything special but seeing as he had been practicing hard on trying to learn to skate to not impress Liz he figured the one person he should bring with him to skate was Liz. It wasn’t a date in fact he didn’t even ask her out he just made sure she was free later.
A few minutes passed and Carrick was outside Liz’s window knocking on it his wings flapping behind him messing up his hair even more than before. At least the light purple sweater was surprisingly easy to move around in. ”Ohi! Liz you in?” Carrick asked knocking on her window again.
Carrick nodded his head once and then smirked to Liz when she apologized, ”Damn right!” Carrick said no longer mad she didn’t tell him she was leaving it was in the past after all and Carrick being upset wouldn’t help much now anyways seeing as Liz was crying not to long ago and the last thing he wanted to do was turn those tears back on.
She was cold, that much was clear to Carrick she was wearing a skirt. Carrick would have been cold as well in fact with his wet hair and slightly damp clothes Carrick was surprised he wasn’t shivering, ”Christ it’s cold what say we go back to the mansion?” it wasn’t really a question because when Carrick asked his feet were already off the ground and his wings started to flap in short strokes enough to keep him just off the ground.
A swoop and a grab and Carrick was in the air with Liz and once again his face warmed up from the increased blood flow. ‘that’s why I was warm’ thought Carrick as he flew back towards the mansion before the sun went down, ”Now that your back you think you can make that cake again?” Carrick asked hopefully glad the girl he sort of kind of probably liked more than just a friend was back at the mansion near him.
Carrick smirked in response when the man in the hood said he was sly, ”Among other things” Carrick said not moving as he walked closer. If he were going to attack he would have done it by now unless all this talking is just a ploy to get Carrick distracted while he closed the distance. Either way Carrick kept an eye on him for sudden movements.
”You need someone with actually some skill in theft?” Carrick asked giving the other guy a toothy grin, ”But fifty grand is a lot.” Carrick said wondering why the guy was telling him all this almost like he is setting something up. ”I take it you monologue a lot don’t you?” Carrick asked his head tilting to the side trying not to laugh as he pictured the guy doing an evil laugh over a good guy handcuffed to a table.
”What is it?” Carrick asked his curious side getting the better of him as his feline like tail started to twitch anxiously.
There were a few things he could say right now in an attempt to cheer her up, however he remained silent for a few moments to let her think about what she wanted to do. Carrick wasn’t sure what she really wanted but he had hoped that he was somewhere in the equation, he didn’t like the thought of Liz leaving again.
Carrick was still upset with her but as usual he decided to smile than frown so his true emotions didn’t show because they were emotions he wasn’t used to, he didn’t really know how to act on the butterflies that were no longer active in his stomach. Finally he spoke, ”Spend it in the coal mine?” Carrick asked repeating her question, ”You feel like digging the rest of your life. Me? I’d much rather enjoy it above ground.” Carrick said turning to face the sun for a second before adding and propping open his wings, ”Way above ground.”
Carrick’s wings closed and tucked themselves behind the winged thief, ”However, if I need to come back down to earth ever now and then I think I can manage it every now and then for those who are special to me.” Carrick said turning back to Liz, ”Don’t leave again without telling me, ‘sound good?” Carrick said folding his arms trying to act tough.
Carrick nodded at her first explanation about leaving it might have been safer. For a while now Carrick had gotten so used to all the chaos in New York City he started to think that was just how it always was, a massive chaotic adventure. Something he had grown to like but in Liz’s case there was a few times where she had gotten into trouble, one being his fault something he didn’t plan on forgetting anytime soon. ‘Did I push her away?’ Carrick found himself asking as she continued to explain her escape that turned all wrong.
>>> “it was going to be a good idea, even if I had to give up the friends I made here.”
Carrick stopped nodding and he looked down at his feet despite Liz being back those words cut in deep and he was about to say something but didn’t. Could he too do something similar just up and move and forget everyone here? He had done it before what’s to say he couldn’t do it again, but did that mean forgetting Liz? Carrick mentally shook his thoughts; he could brood later in his favorite brooding spot next to a pair of gargoyles by the abandoned church he frequented. No, now was the time to be near Liz he missed her and wanted to understand why she was so upset.
She was happy, which was good friends and a job and sports. It was what every kid dreamed of well in Carrick’s mind it was just friends and a good time. The job and classes and sports weren’t really his thing. Carrick hated to be stuck somewhere, one of the reasons he never really saw a need for a job and one of the reasons he rarely attended school.
Carrick was happy for Liz that she found all that, up until she mentioned a guy. His heart stopped pounding, as intensely despite the fact that she was so close to him and it seemed those butterflies in his stomach died or decided to stop fluttering about. Either way the initial feeling he had next to Liz was on hold. ‘She found someone else’ thought Carrick ‘good!’ his thoughts continued as she continued.
Once she was done Carrick nodded his head and waited for a few seconds as she slipped her arm through Carrick’s he was tempted to pull away but didn’t not yet at least. ”Sounds like a Caffler to me.” Carrick then moved from Liz and stood up and brushed his pants off as he looked out into the horizon ”Whole lot of them sound like apes an’ asses. Honestly, girl great as you, even if you’re from jersey.” Carrick shifted his weight backwards and spun on his heal to face Liz, ”I mean I’m no diamond, but I seem to get ‘long with you well enough.” Carrick said smirking, ”Got to be careful with Diamonds, everyone thinks they hit it big with ‘em only to realize it’s a cheap knock off.”
Stretching his arms over his head and yawning Carrick shrugged, ”Bah to diamonds, that’s what I say.” ‘Well at least she isn’t still into him.’ Carrick thought trying to find the silver lining through all of this trying to ignore the comments Liz said before hand about forgetting him. ”Guess ya know what needs to be done now ya?”
Carrick smirked as he took another bite of beef jerky as the hooded one pulled out some phones and started preaching about Carrick not knowing what was worth to pinch, ‘Eejit’ thought Carrick. ”The question before, you never answered it.” Carrick said raising one of his legs up and resting it on the ledge as he put his arm on it to rest. ”The answer was neither, it nether makes me the good guy or the bad guy, and at the same time both. I picked the pocket of you as you were busy picking the pocket so all I did was pick something that was once picked.” Carrick took another bite, ”So I guess I can fancy myself as Robin Hood only without the tights.” Carrick lifted his leg he was resting on the ledge to reveal his jeans.
”I can lift phones and cards with ease but it is common sense, money is the quick steal and the safest one for someone like myself to take.” Carrick took another bite and swallowing the already chewed food. ”the things that make me special the wings and the tail, also make me easy to pick out in a line up. Not that I have ever been in a line up but how easy would that be?” Carrick asked rhetorically as he continued, ”I start taking phones and going to pawn shops people start to know my face then, they learn the name and well.” Carrick shrugged, ”I like for the most part to keep my nose clean.”
Nodding his head over towards the one in the hood, ”Sides you really think I’m going to take advice from someone that is most likely doing this for a living? No, fun that’s what this is I won’t be doing this forever not like you.” Carrick smirked, ”What are you thirty? Didn’t even have a bloody bill of your own in the wallet.”
Carrick took another bite of his jerky, ”Judging by your pissed of expression from before and the fact you chased me I take it you’ve never been picked before?” Carrick’s tail swished behind him while a breeze moved his smaller feathers about along with the majority of his brown locks.
It was just a few simple words but for a brief second it took him back two years to back when he was across the pond at home and his mother was telling him to ‘stop right there Carrick’ only it wasn’t a request no matter how calm his mother or Ms. Taylor seemed to be their voice had a way of stopping him. He froze before he got close to the door his escape wasn’t really the best idea at this point.
Reluctantly Carrick turned and walked back towards the chair he was in and sat down folding his arms, almost as if he was pouting. ”Detention then?” Carrick asked hoping that was the answer the last thing Carrick wanted was to be grouped in with some of the kids after school in detention or worse the after school special that went on in the danger room with the professor with the eye patch.
Unfolding his arms Carrick sat up straight and looked to the clock to see what time it was. ”Two weeks?” Carrick asked figuring that was how long his detention would last, ”Still passing all my classes…” muttered Carrick his tail twitching behind him. He might have been passing his classes but most of those were constantly on the verge of going in the opposite direction.
The stare down lasted a few minutes between Carrick and the ballsy pigeon till finally Carrick gave a low screech sounding similar to hawk or an eagle he wasn’t sure which but when he flapped open his wings quickly enough the ballsy pigeon turned tail and flew away after dropping a few piles in his wake. Carrick looked to the other pigeons and they did something similar to the first one and flew off. Carrick was finally alone on his perch and he could now peacefully enjoy his meal. Or so he thought.
A few seconds passed and the fire escape door busted open to reveal the pickpocket he had picked earlier all tuckered out from the run he seemed to do to trail Carrick. The man was angry and tired; Carrick smirked and took another bite of jerky as he complimented Carrick on one of his talents then threatened to kill him. He was mad and seemed serious but Carrick couldn’t really help but give a small chuckle with food in his mouth. Given who his father was, his childhood and his recent escapades a man who seemed like he was forty to fifty pounds heavier didn’t really strike Carrick as deadly. Then again he could be a nutter of sorts.
”Off your nut are ya?” Carrick asked rhetorically, the man didn’t seem crazy but it wouldn’t be the first time Carrick misjudged someone based on appearance he did follow him all this way though, maybe he was. ”Thank ya, for the compliment.” Carrick said with another bite not moving from his perch however he was aware now of the winds around him figuring a straight drop over the ledge would get him away safely if needed.
”Well, I simply picked a picker who was picking a pocket making him an ideal pocket for another picker to pick. Does that make me the bad guy or the good guy? I wonder” Carrick asked his accent slurring some of the words together. He continued to smile and added, ”Didn’t have much money anyways, I’m assuming the money in the wallet there wasn’t yours to begin with?” Carrick asked curiously pointing to the man’s wallet on the ground. ”Real nice pick by the way, couldn’t see a thing. He didn’t have much did he?” Carrick asked figuring he didn’t on account of the guy chasing down Carrick for a wallet with twenty-one dollars in it.
‘Good for Nico’ thought Carrick willing to share Liz, something Carrick wasn’t entirely sure he was capable of luckily as far as the mansion goes he was pretty sure he was the closest to her and she didn’t even bother to tell him she was leaving for a year so it seemed that now she was back Carrick might not have to compete with anyone. Before he could answer her question about enjoying their time together she propped her head on his shoulder and the butterflies dwelling in his stomach started to flutter about.
The topic of conversation shifted to her about her home and where she was from. ”Oh… eww a jersey girl….” Carrick said trying to sound as playful as possible tilting his head momentarily to the side leaning it on hers before lifting it up and leaning it back against the building. He could hear from her tone she was sad about her home and how everything had become. Instinctively he tried to break the tension and lighten her mood, ”Then you realized you couldn’t go flying with me? Or keep me focused in school?” he asked trying to smile despite her sounding upset.
He paused for a few seconds and then his nostrils flared, ”What happened in Jersey?” he let the question sit trying not to add any more humor to the situation for fear of upsetting Liz more than she already was. The last thing he wanted to see was her cry.
She was close to him now; very close so close he could reach his fingers out from his side and place them around hers. He didn’t though instead he thought about it for a few seconds before blood danced to his face again, he remembered the kiss they shared and he wondered if anything between them would be the same again or at least normal enough to the point where his face doesn’t light up bright red or his stomach doesn’t knot itself up. Still he didn’t inch away when he could catch the smell of her shampoo on the air when the wind blew some of her hair his way.
” Didn’t know you could do that.” Carrick said his eyes still focused out on the horizon while his thoughts were focused on Liz and their conversation and defiantly not the butterflies dancing in his stomach. ”So you can do bird calls too then?” Carrick asked giving a few chirps and not the screech he suddenly felt the urge to let loose from the adrenaline that he was currently experiencing. ”Just birds? I wonder how Nico likes the competition; don’t think he ever liked me. Pooped on my shoulder a few times… then again I was always way out of his league as far flying.” Carrick said smirking tilting his gaze to the girl whose hair was being blown about due to the flight and the current short bursts of wind.
His eyes fixed on her for a second before he shifted his gaze back out to the horizon, ”Strange, it was always colder up here when I was by myself.” Carrick said his wing behind him shifted forcing his arm to brush up and remain against hers. ”Won’t be able to do this much longer once winter is here, very hard to fly about up this way between the winds and snow.” Carrick said, ”Never been one to fly south either.” he smirked and kept looking forward. ”Was it cold where you were?” Carrick asked trying in his round about way to try and figure out where she was without making her uncomfortable.
During his casual non-direct questioning his tail had managed continuously to somehow brush up against Liz’s hand over and over again where Carrick had no intention or idea of it being there.
”Told you before, I’m not gonna leave you. You might not come back and things around the mansion got boring.” So boring he stopped showing up for his classes and decided to find homes away from the mansion where he could fly to when he was sick of the mansion he rarely saw his roommate Koga was off doing the superhero thing and Kat had her boyfriend the creepy guy meaning Carrick was mostly alone except when he befriended the odd trouble makers, oh how few of them they were at the mansion.
It didn’t take a genius to figure out Liz was still upset about something, and Carrick was no where near a genius intellect he could however read people pretty well and given that Liz was someone he kind of sort of maybe liked more than a friend he actually cared to read her even after a year he liked to think it was still somewhat easy. His mismatched eyes fixed on her light brown ones and he smirked again his sharp teeth showing more than he had realized. ”As far as what I’m going to do with you?” Carrick realized he never answered her question. Carrick shrugged and turned his head slightly to the oncoming wind his hair getting buffered as he leaned forward and he started to fly in circles above Liz and the stoop she was on.
”Hmmm…” Carrick thought allowed as he eyed her like a bird of prey as he continued to circle her. A second passed then another and then Carrick flapped his wings shut and landed on the building next to Liz with a small thud and he stood upright. Not realizing how close he actually landed to her when he stood upright he was almost eye level from her and within reach forcing his cheeks to fill with color. Carrick turned his gaze away from her and then sat down, upset with himself for he could face down a big red ape with no problem but being around her gave his stomach butterflies. ”Who says I want to do anything? I just wanted some company for the view.” Carrick said defensively as he nodded forward towards the buildings below.
They were higher than all the other buildings in Manhattan so everything below them looked like toy buildings and ants. Carrick closed his eyes for a second as the wind buffered his face and he opened them again, ”So who was the bird?” Carrick asked trying to make casual conversation hoping the bird she had been with earlier when he spotted her was a safe topic that wouldn’t make her feel trapped.
Humming a song he heard earlier on his MP3 player Carrick drifted in the skies for a few minutes slowing his turns the further he got from his last pick. Once a few minutes away and determined that the guy defiantly wasn’t a flier Carrick landed on an apartment building complex’s roof where he decided to let his tail hang over the edge of the building as he sat facing inward. He was oblivious to the fact that his wings were facing the streets reflecting the small amount of sunlight as it peeked out from the clouds.
Carrick pulled the wallet he just lifted and rummaged through it and then scrunched his nose with disgust when he realized there was nothing much in it other than a twenty-dollar bill a single and a few cards. Nothing other than the cards were his from what Carrick determined, which was why he was picking some pockets. ”Bum.” thought Carrick aloud as he took the money out and tossed the wallet onto the roof and put the money with his small collection of twenties he had lifted earlier from a pair of targets.
”Lunch time, or snack time.” Carrick said to himself as he removed some beef jerky from one of his many pockets and started nibbling on piece after piece as a few pigeons started to converge near him. ”Think twice, this is my food you try and take it I’ll shift and eat you.” Carrick said staring down a lone pigeon that got a little too ballsy and started to close the distance between him and his flock.
Despite the winds Carrick’s ascent didn’t slow the sooner he’d get out of the wind tunnel the buildings produced the better it wasn’t that he couldn’t handle the extra weight he just didn’t want to be all tuckered out when they talk. When she buried her face in his shoulder that was when Carrick’s blushing episode finally hit. His face got warmer and he was wearing a large toothy grin that would have been hidden to the woman in his arms she also happened to be the only one around them so he didn’t fight it when his face started to light up like a red Christmas bulb.
A few moments passed and as the blood was running back down from his face he spotted their perch. It was far less windy up here where there were few buildings producing a wind tunnel effect but it was still relatively easy to feel a small tug from the wind every now and then something Carrick knew Liz wouldn’t like seeing as she was in a skirt.
”Last stop empire state building, ‘hank you for flying Carrick please keep your hands and feet in the arms of your flier until the angel touches down.” Once he was above his perch he touched down slowly and let her down gently bending his body till it was easy for her to touch the ground. ”Everything you remember?” Carrick asked flapping his wings once then twice lifting his body off the perch where she was. ”Been a while since I’ve flown anyone anywhere.” Carrick thought aloud while he was keeping himself airborne a few feet from where Liz was.
It was a cold cloudy day and the winds up above the majority of the buildings were strong so strong in fact Carrick didn’t feel like working that much to stay airborne so he stayed just below the lower rooftops which provided him a nice steady gust of wind to keep him aloft. He was in mutant town and it was around three meaning the streets were busy with people coming home from work or getting ready for the late shift. It also meant the streets would be ripe with some targets. It wasn’t often the winged thief traveled in the mutant district to conduct his business mainly because there was either an extra set of eyes everywhere, or because there was always someone that could shoot him down. The fliers were the least of his concerns there were a few that could keep up with him but so far once he hit the higher altitudes most seemed to give up and go home before they caught him.
Mismatched color eyes scanned down below as he searched for his first target making sure there wasn’t anyone with a visible mutation that would indicate a problem for him. ”’ello, ‘ello” Carrick said to himself in a soft voice as he spotted a shady character tailing a suit. It was easy for Carrick to spot other pickpockets the tells and the signs said it all after all it is what he usually does. With a birds eye view Carrick could see a lot more than on the ground sure he wasn’t right there but he knew the body language enough when someone was about to make a snatch.
Carrick waited for a second then shrugged his shoulders and tilted his wings before heading towards the pair, he was bored and so often when he was bored he had a tendency to do things he normally wouldn’t and shouldn’t do like pick a pick-pocket or pick from a mutant who was four times his size and big and red.
Carrick smirked and waited till the lift was complete before he pretended to lose control and fell from the sky confidently landing into the man with the head and the suit. ”Sorry!” Carrick called out his wings batting the man in the hood once then twice before lifting his wallet and putting it into his pocket before no one noticed. ”Windy up there and all!” Carrick got to his feet and gave both of the men a nod before sighing, ”Know what they say though, get hit by a fallen angel and its best to play the lottery!” Carrick smirked nodded to both and flapped his wings a few times kicking up dirt and dust before getting some air and traveling up the road. ”Easy peasey.” Carrick said with a large smirk feeling the wallet in his back pocket. A fair trade in his mind, the pick-pocket picks a pocket only to get picked himself.
