The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

”Better, far better.” Carrick said correcting Tses about Gryphon’s flying. Carrick wasn’t only bigger and faster in his shifted form but he was also stronger, and had more seating room something that anyone who had flown with both Carrick’s would appreciate. ”You’d like him, have to feed him but Gryphon is a good boy. He is better with first time flyers as well.” Carrick said not giving Tses any indication that he and Gryphon were one and the same.
Gliding towards Tses’s apartment Carrick continued to smile till he touched down and retracted his wings to his back. ”Well, guess this is your stop. Can you get to your place from here?” Carrick asked wondering if the roof access door was unlocked or if she couldn’t walk so well do to her wound.
Carrick was short to begin with so he didn’t need to lower his body much to set Tses’s feet down first before he finally let go of her, ”Really nice meeting you Tses. If the leg gets any worse though you should come to the mansion and have Doc heal you… be in and out seconds tops.” Carrick shrugged and then added, ”Free meal too, be sure to stop and see me if you do come by.”
The golden brown wings opened again and flapped a few times lifting the boy off the ground, ”I’ll see you around hopefully.” Carrick said grinning and waving to her before his wings took him higher into the air before he decided it was time he himself headed home.
The winged mutants body continue to shiver despite him now being indoors and not surrounded by snow, problem was he wasn’t warming up fast enough. A good sprint to his room and several layers of clothing should help him heat up quick enough, however due to the sudden ‘Eeep’ that the girl in front of him just squealed that was going to have to wait. There were two ways out of this current situation, back out the way he came or run past her and sprint to his room where his clothes were probably waiting on the floor for him.
Carrick chose the warmer route, ”Coddle coddle coddle!” Muttered Carrick as he ran past the young woman whose face was probably redder than his was whenever Liz was around. ”Don’t tell anyone, I’m Sorry!” Carrick yelled as he continued down the hallway away from the kitchen and towards the staircase closest to his room.
Fifteen minutes passed and he finally made it to his room, between dodging laughing students other red faces and the occasional professor who yelled something about detention Carrick was finally in his room with the door locked behind him. Still shivering Carrick ran to the biggest pile of clothes and through on a pair of pants a shirt and his flannel. Socks were a chore to look for but once he found them he finally started to warm up.
Another few minutes passed and Carrick walked into kitchen still fighting the cold that was affecting his body. He sneezed once then spotted the blonde he first saw when he entered the kitchen. ”There is a student running around in his birthday suit!” Carrick said trying to play it off that it wasn’t him, ”Bumped into him on the way down here.” Carrick shivered and found a mug in one of the cupboards and filled it with water then placed it in the microwave for a few seconds. ”Cheeky lil’ guy that one, never a dull moment here…” Carrick said trying to smile despite the fact that his teeth were still slamming together.
It was twenty steps now in the freezing snow and with each one in between the curses and the talking to himself Carrick counted each step his body starting to shiver more and more violently as his teeth became castanets with each clatter sounding as if they were better suited for a mariachi band than the teeth of the shifter. With his final curse Carrick opened up his wings and flapped once before landing into the door and pulling the handle simultaneously opening the kitchen doors and landing on the floor his nude rear in the air for all to see.
He laid still for a moment shivering his wings snapped back to his backside covering it in hopes to warm him but they were about as cold as the snow outside due to the amount that was still caked on it. Opening his wings quickly and shutting them even faster Carrick managed to do this a few times before lifting up his frozen head. In the process of opening and closing his wings all the ice and snow that was still latched on to his wings shot off in different directions. It wasn’t a lot just enough to cause a mess and a scene should Katrina’s mother be cooking dinner.
A second passed and his body still shook with each shiver and his teeth continued to chatter. ”C-c-coddle it’s col’d” Carrick managed to say as he closed his fingers and wiggled all his toes to make sure he still had them. They moved slow but were all still attached which meant, he didn’t have to go see Doc. Things were starting to look up.
Carrick blinked once and grunted trying to lift his body slowly up before he realized he wasn’t the only one in the room. Carrick spotted a girl wearing jeans and a sleeveless top, which made sense because they were now inside where it was warm… and he was naked.
Carrick’s face started to turn bright red as it seemed the blood which he htought was frozen was now rushing to his face. ”S-S-orr-y!” Carrick said managing to jump up and in the same motion swing both hands and one of his cold wings to cover the front of his body in hopes he didn’t add indecent exposure to his mansion rap sheet.
Carrick’s lip twisted up in a grin when Tses stuck her tongue out at him. ”Not the first time been called a punk, won’t be the last will it?” Carrick said doubting very much it was the last time he heard it. Punk was one of the better names he had been called in the past but it didn’t faze Carrick too much. Carrick kept his eyes forward and kept flapping his wings speeding up slightly causing more wind to buffer them as the buildings passed by faster.
”You can say you can handle more?” Carrick asked turning his wings and body into a nosedive. Tucking his wings too his back Carrick started to laugh yelling, ”Best hold on to your snacks then!” as the wind rushed around them as gravity continued to speed up their fall. After a second passed Carrick asked, ”Still think you can handle it?”
Carrick tensed his legs and tail then opened his wings suddenly feeling a large pull downward as their fall was suddenly stopped. Carrick’s arms were sore now and with the additional weight and the wind his wings were starting to feel it as well but luckily Carrick stopped the nose dive before they were too close to the ground. Still above the residential building complexes Carrick did another barrel roll then shortly after a loop.
Once he leveled out again Carrick smirked and tilted his head slightly towards the blonde in his arms, ”Hope that wasn’t too bad? Be lucky you didn’t meet Gryphon… he would have made it way worse.” Carrick said laughing to himself seeing as she had no idea who his Gryphon was. ”That your place?” Carrick asked pointing to a building with a red door for roof access.
Carrick deemed the subject before he fell a sensitive one due to the fact that she said her sister was in a car accident and she never finished explaining. Now that he was looking back on that moment he was glad that gravity and his balance seemed to conspire against him ‘nice subject change’ thought Carrick as he noticed Liz was offering to help him up. Pride set in momentarily an instance similar to when Tses refused to get healed when she was injured, Carrick however wasn’t normally as prideful as some and any pride he had vanished as quickly as it had come when Liz was near him offering up her hand to help the shifter out.
Carrick grinned and grabbed her hand using his own body for the most part to lift himself while he let Liz’s helping hand guide him up. Once upright the thief found his arm intertwined with Liz’s a very pleasant outcome of the tumble. His face became a shade redder as he forced his thoughts on how close they were to the back of his mind. ”Or both.” Carrick said flashing his pearly whites towards her as they walked towards the rink entrance.
Luckily for Carrick he only managed the one fall while they were walking towards the rink once he was on the rink? That was still too soon to tell. Once the blades on his skates touched the ice he shifted his weight to the sides like Sam taught him and he inched forward a little bit removing his arm from Liz’s but found his hand trailing down to hers. Carrick’s fingers brushed across the bottom of her hand and from there the grip tightened for a moment. Wondering if her hand was going to turn over and lock with his Carrick’s fingers loosened up if she didn’t want to hold his hand.
”Here we go!” Carrick said as he propelled himself smoothly on the ice. ‘Eejit’ thought Carrick as he tried the hand holding move that Sam said was foolproof once on the ice if the girl indeed liked the hand reaching for hers ‘Gonna give him a piece of me mind…’ then his thoughts trailed off for a second, ‘maybe she doesn’t like me like that?’ Looking down on the ice trying not to look back at Liz’s reaction moments felt like lifetimes.
Carrick smiled when Liz started recounting when she learned how to first skate, his mismatched eyes glanced upwards from his skates he was starting to lace only to watch Liz lace hers and smile while she mentioned her dad and sister something he never really heard Liz talk about much. ”Pretty sure,” Carrick started to focus on his skates once again ”You’ll be fine, got years of experience on me.” Carrick said finally finishing the first skate and started to work on the second even though Liz was done with both. One of the things Sam told Carrick was to make sure the laces were tight so it wouldn’t affect the balance on the ice so he was making sure that his first time out like this with Liz wasn’t filled with him looking like an eejit.
When she asked Carrick how long Carrick had been hitting the ice he didn’t look up but rather shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly when he spoke, ”About a month, I heard you like to ska..” Carrick paused and his face started to turn red as he was looking at his skate. ”I mean, Sam told me I had to learn how to skate.” Carrick said trying to pretend he didn’t learn just for her, ”He said it was something to keep me out of trouble. Think frosty the snowman didn’t expect I’d be such a hassle.” Carrick said finishing his skate and looking up towards Liz followed by his ‘tough thumb across nose’ impression of his brother he did from time to time. ”Da never bothered to teach me how to skate, ‘family of flyers Carrie, no reason to be grounded, eh?’” Carrick said trying to make his voice deeper and more robust to sound like his fathers.
She stood up first and Carrick followed suit and together they walked towards the ice, only Carrick’s body had different ideas he never did fully master the art of walking on the ground in skates. Looking more like a one of those bobble heads Carrick’s head bobbed up and down as he tried to keep his balance. ”So how come I don’t hear a lot about your family? Told me about when you went home and back to school but never heard about you having a sister.” Carrick said to Liz as he struggled to walk in a straight line.
Liz was in front of him so he made sure not to lean forward and knock her down instead he ended up leaning just a bit too far back and on the next step he fell to his side crashing onto the ground. ”Better on the ice or in the air. Ground isn’t really my thing…” Carrick muttered grabbing a table and started to pull himself up.
Bad decisions were common with Carrick, a lot of them like to lift a wallet here, help a robbery there, skip classes, and don’t call da after he told you to call. Recently Carrick had been trying to turn over a new leaf with some of those bad ideas, he had been calling home every other day, he had been picking pockets less often and he had even started to show up for class. Today however Carrick made a bad decision by shifting into his Gryphon form and going out for a fly when a snowstorm was on its way.
Under the impression he had some time before the storm hit Carrick took off without a change of clothes knowing full well that when he shifted back he’d be nude but… ”Coldcoldcoldcoldshouldhavebroughtsomeextraclothes.” pride got the best of him he figured the storm wouldn’t be too much to handle to fly in his gryphon form let alone his human one. How wrong Carrick was, anything higher than twenty feet off the ground and it was hard to see three feet in front of you add buildings and other things that would hurt like heck to crash into well the ground seems like a better choice.
Strong winds and lack of visibility forced the Gryphon to the ground but it wasn’t until he got to the woods on the mansion grounds did things really start to go wrong the familiar pain that came with the shifting started to occur and the feathers and warm fur were replaced with shaggy hair and pale skin. Carrick was naked in the middle of winter half a mile from the school. He could have flown but the winds were still bad and it was still hard to see but because of the trees blocking most of the wind and snow he could make out a darkened outline of the mansion.
Bushing some bushes out of the way with one hand while keeping his other hand elsewhere to give off the impression of modesty. If any of the teachers saw him he’d get in trouble and if Liz saw him. He’d figured he’d get yelled at a lot either from Liz or one of the professors or from his mother who was now on Ms.Taylor’s calling list. His thoughts were jumbled from the cold and the inability to stop and catch his breath.
”Don’tbeseendon’tb-b-beseenmovequickkeepthehandthereincaseanyoneisaround” Carrick made it to the edge of the forest in one piece however his feet were numb and his fingers were starting to become discolored. ”S-s-s-s-crewit!” Carrick said cursing to himself as he started to run across the mansion grounds nude during a snowstorm towards the kitchen doors muttering, ”Baddaybaddaybaddaybadday”
Carrick made note that she was one to be motivated by pride in Carrick’s opinion pride was a rather stupid thing to have at times. She was injured and refused t get help because of pride? Now that he thought about it he had a tendency to be too proud as well. Like when someone questions his abilities in aquiring a large sum of cash in a short amount of time or something of the like. Carrick smirked and then added, ”Better a pride killer than just a kill. But I understand don’t like taking handouts. I get it.”
Trying hard not to laugh hard Carrick started to chuckle a bit, ”Please, these, ‘jumps’ as you call them are nothing, I can do a lot more than this.” Carrick said pulling Tses in closer to his body followed by rolling his entire body over in a barrel roll. ”I don’t think your up for the big kid stuff but maybe you will be one day.” Carrick said trying to push her ‘pride’ button hoping she’d as for a lot more than just a fly home and just a barrel roll.
She hugged him! Carrick’s face started to warm up and he smiled for as long as the hug lasted, which in Carrick’s book lasted a little longer than normal but there was no way he was going to voice a complaint. It was clear Carrick was as awesome as Liz had said seconds ago. ‘Carrick did good?’ thought Carrick to himself as he looked to Liz who had been waving him on from the location they landed towards the ice rink. ”Time I showed my stuff!” Carrick agreed fixing his sweater, which had decided to ride slightly higher due to the flight.
Heading down to the ice rink where the ticket booth and skate rental building was located Carrick nodded his head over, ”What size do ya where?” Carrick asked curiously pointing down to her feet then back to the sign that had the prices. ”Today this little excursion is on Jorge.” lied Carrick as he pulled out his wallet making sure he didn’t show anyone just how much he was currently carrying after the Shade incident.
The line at the booth was surprisingly short and once they got in line they quickly went through it and Carrick purchased the two tickets for the skating rink which Carrick thought was just about as over priced as the skates themselves. Carrick didn’t own a pair so he didn’t mind renting them and he couldn’t tell Liz to grab her skates if she did have any because that would have ruined the surprise.
Despite earlier failed attempts of conversation Carrick managed to hand Liz her skates then point out a table where no one was sitting so they could get their skates on. ”So… how long have you been able to ice skate?” Carrick asked slipping his shoes off and sliding his feet and placing them in the rentals. ‘I learned about a few weeks ago’ thought Carrick to himself though he wasn’t able to hide the massive grin on his face. ‘Da would have been impressed’ thought Carrick as he started to lace up the skates like the one-eyed professor at the mansion had taught him.
You can always tell what kind of girl you had in your arms by the way they handle a surprise take off with little warning. Most girls would scream and shriek, or would make some kind loud enough noise so Carrick would continue to consider getting earplugs. Tses however barley made a sound above the wind suddenly rushing at their ears, it was clear she wasn’t like most girls. ‘Boyish gal’ thought Carrick as they made there way in the air and he noticed several more things like the way she shook every now and then or her tightening around his neck either because she was scared and didn’t want to say anything or because she was cold and didn’t want to say anything either way she didn’t mention as to why she was shaking every now and then.
Deciding against a barrel roll this early on Carrick smirked and shook his head when she finally said something, ”Sarcasm noted Tses,” Carrick said determining she was more cold than scared at this point. ”Well, I’m glad I could be apart of this magical moment for you.” Carrick said in his mocking tone as they continued higher into the air once again.
After they were a suitable height one that made even the busses and trucks look small Carrick cleared his throat, ”If you feel like you’re gonna puke or somethin’ like that let me know and I’ll do me best to getcha somewhere solid alright?” Carrick said hoping despite his mocking tone she could hear some sincerity in his voice. The last thing he wanted was to be covered in vomit he so far had a perfect pukeless flying record even with the occasional close call.
Being careful not to go anywhere near her wound Carrick adjusted his hand under her legs making sure it was a steady grip. ”You know the mansion does have healers. Doc does wonders if ya want, wouldn’t be a far trip.” Carrick paused and added, ”Unless you want to rough it on your own, seem like a tough one so far.” Shifting his wings a little more they started to glide in the air in the general direction of Tses’s building. He wasn’t in a hurry not yet at least it was here first time flying after all she might as well enjoy the view.
”Oh and I’d keep your eyes open if I were you. Not a whole lot can say they have seen the new york skyline like this.” Carrick said flying close to a tall building one that was covered in highly reflective glass making a mirror image of the two glide by the pairs side.
Carrick stared at her for a second as his face lit up like a red Christmas tree light before responding quickly to change the subject. Instead of saying anything he jumped and then scooped up Tses quickly before she could say anything else about Liz causing further awkwardness from Carrick he didn’t like to be tongue-tied and he liked his face red even less. He liked being the center of attention only when he was in control and anything with Liz he doubt he was control at all. 'Da was right girls are hard to understand.' thought Carrick every time Liz got him a little flustered.
”I’ll pretend you didn’t say that and I won’t drop you. Sound fair?” Carrick asked laughing, flapping his wings harder as they ascended higher into the air. She wasn’t much heavier than Liz or anyone else he normally flew with so for the most part he assumed it would be an uneventful flight.
Once they were over the trees Carrick shifted his weight and forced them forward over the tree line causing a sea of green below. ”Remember how I told ya it was cold up here? Am I wrong?” the shifter asked as he pushed them higher and forward till the trees looked smaller and the people looked like large ants or small, small people he never knew how to describe them, they were small.
Going in the direction she directed Carrick shifted his eyes towards Tses in his arms, ”So first time flyer?”
Carrick laughed at her what Carrick could assume was an accusation about either he stealing for her or her getting ‘pinched’ by him either way it wasn’t going to happen. After looking into her bag Carrick determined she needed it more than he did money was one thing but Carrick hasn’t stole food from anyone in a long time and he didn’t plan on it now and as far as him pinching her? ”Not one to pinch ya, Liz would kill me.” Carrick said with a smirk not really paying much mind to that he mentioned Liz to Tses.
”If I failed my ‘flying’ exam you think I’d still be flying? Gravity and I have an understanding.” Carrick smiled and then lowered himself to the ground walking towards her as she looped her groceries onto her arm. ”Not a fan of hospitals meself, they don’t like the fact that I don’t like the fact that they think they can try and keep me in one spot for a long period of time.” Carrick paused and then nodded his head in agreement with Tses, ”Eejits.” not all doctors were eejits Carrick had started to like Doc and his personality but still the winged thief hated being told where he could or couldn’t go and what he had to do.
Carrick didn’t give Doc much more thought, his mind shifted back to Tses and he continued on with their conversation, ”Now all you have to do is tell me where to go, I’ll do the rest.” Carrick said his wings springing open again. ”Won’t pinch, promise.” Carrick said smirking slightly and holding out his arms waiting for Tses to figure out how she think it would be best to be carried. Something Carrick hated was shifting his passenger mid flight it made him and his co-pilot uncomfortable. ”Might I suggest a cradle?” Carrick asked keeping his arms in their familiar positions.
Revealing his mutated canines Carrick smiled to Liz and once she was in his arms he forced his wings down and his body higher into the air making a mental note to see what the new ‘sunset’ was all about maybe he would take Liz to see it if that was what she really wanted even if it was god forbid a chick flick. Only once before did he every see a true female film and that was for the most part a sad, sad nightmare that caused his mother to cry and hug him for hours. Though if Liz felt the need to hug him… his face started to become red again.
Ignoring his face turning red Carrick tightened his grip on Liz making sure she was nice and close for what Carrick considered as ‘Safety’ it wasn’t that he’d ever drop her its just with Liz, the closer the better. Carrick’s body shifted forward and he felt the initial tug on his arms as Liz’s weight shifted with Carrick’s movements. They were sailing over trees now a sea of green below them in the now darkened dusk sky. Soon it would be night and soon it would be colder which in this case was good because who would want to skate on melting or melted ice?
The journey there for the most part was quite Carrick didn’t really talk much because all he could think of in his head was, ‘is this a date, no it isn’t, yes it is, shut up, talk to her, it isn’t a date, yes it is, shut up…’ his thoughts continued until the trees below them dissolved into streets and low apartment complexes. ”So h-how about thisweather?” Carrick said mentally kicking himself for a number of reasons the question itself and his tongue being tied just two of the reasons.
Carrick didn’t say much after his botched attempt of a conversation his hands started to shake the closer they got to their destination why? The winged mutant had no idea feelings like this never happened to him before so it was all relatively new, Once the ice ring was in sight Carrick lowered himself and Liz onto the grass in central park nearest the ice skating ring. ”…Sur-surprise!” Carrick said stuttering, ”Was told you loved to s-skate, thought it would be a f-un t-time!” Carrick said with a smile ready to smack himself in the head to regain control of his tongue, which kept trying to tie itself.
Carrick almost laughed when she told the winged mutant her abilities instead he snorted slightly and blurted out, ”Anyone ever call you sailor moon before?” Carrick asked trying not to laugh at his own joke he wasn’t making fun of her or her abilities only teasing, which was what he had been doing the entire conversation it seemed that Tses was more than capable to send it back which he was now waiting for.
During said time (something he was more than willing to give her ample time due to her not being quick as him) Carrick watched her get her things together and make it look like she was ready to get moving, a shame really. Carrick actually enjoyed the time he was having with her, it was a random conversation but for the most part Tses seemed better than all right she was almost great.
”You know,” Carrick said opening his wings and using them to lift himself into the air, ”All you do is have to ask, I do have a tendency to lend out my wings when they are needed.” he said flashing his teeth in a smile, ”Call it the good deed of the day who knows maybe it will be the good deed of the week so I can stop being so damn nice to every Eejit this side of the city.” Carrick said opening his arms and yawning.
”Besides I’m all rested now and need to loosen up a bit I think me taking you to where ever you need to go would do enough to loosen me up.” Carrick paused and pointed at her bad leg, which was still slightly stained red, ”You shouldn’t be walking on that anyways, not unless you’re looking for a trip to the hospital. Might get a free meal out of it?” Carrick said shrugging and lowering himself to the ground where he put his hand into his pocket to grab some more jerky. Mouth slightly full Carrick added, ”Mm-you’ll ‘ave ta carry your own luggage though.”
‘Don’t stop don’t stop don’t stop’ thought Carrick as he felt his heart beating faster and faster, he was scared and excited and a dozen other emotions all in one but they all told him one thing don’t stop. The adrenaline made everything better more clear two lights left and then this could be all over that was his only part in this make it dark. A stray bullet shot by with the sound of a supersonic bumble bee Carrick closed his mismatched color eyes for a quarter of a second then focused on the second light.
Other than ‘Shade’ being shady Carrick doubted the mercenaries hands full enough to distract them completely if they were smart, which Carrick was hoping they weren’t they should have rallied under the remaining street lights and been ready from all angles. Luckily for Carrick by the time he got to the second to last light it seemed they weren’t too focused on keeping the lights on but rather fighting off the darkness, which was shade.
Swooping low and then up Carrick turned over in a barrel roll swinging his hatchet into the second to last light, it seemed things were going to be done shortly. Like he did before Carrick fly over the buildings and took cover behind the rooftops to avoid being hit. Being hit was bad.
The last light had two men with spotlights under it and they were shooting it in several different directions while there were three gunman shooting about. Carrick swooped low and yelled out, ”Hope ya Eejits aren’t afraid of the dark!” Carrick heard a bang and then swung down hitting the last light causing it to go black except for the flashlights. A quick pain jolted through Carrick’s right arm and he took off back to the rally point.
Like a bat out of hell he was there in the darkness on the rooftop out of breath. He waited for a few seconds and holstered his hatchets then reached up to his right bicep where there was some pain. Pain and blood. Carrick winced and touched the wound from what he could tell it was something like a flesh wound there was no giant hole or a bullet just pain and blood. Carrick cursed and took off his shoe and sock and then wrapped his tube sock around his injured arm. ”Doc is gonna be curious about this one…” Carrick cursed to himself as he looked around for Shade hoping he actually finished the job instead of being gunned down in the streets.
