The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Carrick stared at her once he sat in his seat not able to believe that someone has never been to the circus. ”Yer pulling me tail.” Carrick said shaking his head grabbing a small handful of popcorn and individually tossing them into his mouth. ”I used to be in the circus… fer like, two years or something like that.” Carrick said trying to reflect on it. ”In fact I think you were one of the first people in the mansion I actually met and liked. You cam a bit after I’d been there.”
Tempted to leap into the air and float above the table they were sitting at Carrick decided against it, ”I was known as the incredible Gryphon, last of my kind. Everyone believed I was some weird animal they found.” Carrick laughed slightly, ”Think I pulled off the dumb beastie bit a bit too well.” Carrick reached for the hotdog once his hand full of popcorn was consumed. ”You pick up a lot of tricks in traveling circus. Me ma didn’t know I was with ‘em till like three months before I left ‘em. Got kinda bored there after a while.” Carrick shrugged his shoulders and bit into the hot dog and sipped the hot chocolate.
”Still keep in touch with everyone though, they got a show this way sometime next year asked if I could swing by for a performance.” Carrick said shrugging his shoulders again. He hadn’t decided if he wanted to do it yet though he knew seeing the old gang was always a good time.
Looking back to Liz from his hot chocolate Carrick smiled, ”How is your mother?” Carrick asked remembering Liz’s first day at the mansion was with her mother and her parrot.
Another cloud passed by this one a bit darker than others though he didn’t pay much mind to it seeing as how blue the sky still was. ”Kinda an understatement.”Carrick said shrugging his shoulders moving his wings by extension. ”Though, my grades have jumped up a bit since we started dating.” Carrick yawned, ”Guess, I can blame her for that.” she was the reason he still went to class, nagging teachers had nothing on an upset Elizabeth.
”Well, are you crazy?” Carrick asked the girl when she doubted his comment about her being sane. ”Doesn’t really matter what others think does it?” his tail flopped in the grass again as he pulled his other wing closer to his body when it was getting too warm from the sun. ”My mutation usually pegs me as an angel.” Carrick lied his tone not trying to hide it at all. He yawned again and put his hands behind his head elevating it slightly.
Carrick turned his head slightly, ”You do look like the artsy type.” Carrick said looking on Eve with mismatched color eyes, ”Sorry about your apartment though, bunch of Eejits in the city if ya ask me.” Carrick said his tail flicking with irritation when he thought about the riots and what had transpired. ”Buncha cafflers, Eejits and Apes.” Carrick laughed, ”sometimes it feels like I’m the only one with any sense, which is saying a lot.” he paused and looked back up to the sky, ”Pretty sure there isn’t a time limit to your stay here. Everyone here is all happy n’shit.”
Suddenly Carrick was happy for the company of the sane… adult? Carrick’s eyes looked her up and down again and he mentally nodded, she had the body of an adult though the way she made it sound she wasn’t one. ”My girlfriend likes it when I do both. School and take her shopping that is.” he still wasn’t used to saying girlfriend even if they had been dating for a few months. ”Both usually end up being more painful than ‘here worth.” he lied about the last bit he was just lazy and didn’t see the point of being in one spot for a long period of time and both seemed to force him on a schedule.
”Everyday is a mental health day,” Carrick said smirking as he looked back up to the sky to see a cloud passing over head that resembled a rabbit. His stomach growled, he wasn’t hungry for rabbits he was just hungry though he wouldn’t put it past his shifted form to dine on some rabbits. Rodents were something that Gryphon enjoyed to eat.
Turning his head he looked to the white haired girl who was leaning on a tree, ”I’m glad there is at least one sane adult here, everyday is too nice to be cooped up inside.” Carrick’s tail swayed back and forth rustling the grass in the process. ”Ya hiding out ‘ere?” Carrick asked curiously shifting his weight causing one of the golden wings to retract slightly. ”Carrick.” he said looking back up to the sky.
”Great nap.” Carrick said to himself as if he really needed a pat on the back for doing absolutely nothing. With a yawn and stretch Carrick walked down a corridor of bookshelves and tried to recall where he was, must have been the library. Which meant he was in here because he was skipping classes or he was actually in the library for a book. Looking down to his full hand he noticed a book (mechanics of flight) and nodded, he was here for a book but did that mean he wasn’t hiding here?
Looking around for a clock Carrick walked out into the open and spotted a kid reading a lot of books. Some looked big enough for textbooks, which caused Carrick’s eyebrows into a frown. He blinked once and put his fingers on the bridge of his nose as he was trying to decide if he should ask the kid for the time or just keep moving. Carrick didn’t recognize the kid, most likely do to the fact that the kid was new or Carrick was just not around the places as often as he should be, like classes.
Hefting his book on the table Carrick looked to the new kid with black hair and colored streaks in it. ”Ohi, what time is it?” Carrick asked still slightly tired and even more disoriented.
The foot steps he heard first his eyes still closed and the face in the direction of the sun Carrick hoped who ever they belonged to would just go away. A low rumble resembling a growl exited his throat for a second before he realized that he was doing it. He opened his left eye and found the face belonging to the voice. Carrick’s grey eye fixed on the girl’s figure fist then to her face then her white hair. His tail twitched slightly and he looked back up to the sky closing the grey eye.
”Yes.” was his initial response to bother her questions his accent light on the word due to it only being one. His accent didn’t really flow till he formed full sentences. Opening both eyes and still looking up he continued, ”Went to school all last week, didn even tak’ a day off.” he paused and his tail thudded in the grass again, ”It was hell, almost as bad as shopping which I did last week as well.” Carrick mocked a chill down his spine and his whole body rustled in the grass including his wings.
”Take it yer’ the curious type.” Carrick said this time turning his head so he was fixing both colored eyes at her. It wasn’t a question but rather a statement, ”Gonna go tell someone I’m not where I should be?” he asked this time not really adding much concern in his voice. If she was a snitch she’d tell on him and then another one of the students or better yet a teacher would walk all the way out here to find the outline of an angel with a tail in the grass.
Shifting his weight and taking a step closer to the front of the stand Carrick pulled out his beaten up wallet and opened it revealing several bills. The smaller ones were his while the larger ones were ones he ‘found’ in another wallet or rather wallets. Pulling out a twenty and setting it on the counter Carrick looked to Liz then to the guy running the stand, ”Two Pretzels, a hot dog, a bag of popcorn and two hot chocolates.” Carrick smirked and looked back to Liz, ”You want anything other than the hot chocolate and the pretzel?” he asked curiously before completing his order.
Carrick turned and leaned on the counter of the stand removing his wing from behind Liz meaning he was now facing her, ”Never understood the concept a’ walking far in skates. However I enjoy watching other people do it. They look like chickens when they walk.” Carrick’s eyes shifted to a middle-aged couple-walking bow legged towards the ice.
A second passed and the man returned with their food and a smile on his face, “For the young happy couple.” Carrick’s eyebrow raised and he turned back to the guy and had a half smile half confused look on his face before he turned to Liz and shrugged, it seemed word was getting around fast.
Carrick now had the dilemma of walking in his skates just after making a comment about how funny people look. Debating about grabbing the food and flying to the nearest table to avoid the embarrassment Carrick decided to grab the food all the food he could and leave the change on the counter. It wasn’t that he didn’t want it was just he didn’t really need it at this point sides, Sam also told him being generous with tips goes a long way and so far the one eyed Eejit was on the money.
Spotting a vacant table Carrick led the way and set all he could carry down making sure not to spill anything. ”Hope this popcorn is good. Never tastes as good as the circus popcorn.” Carrick said grinning slightly remembering his first week with the circus and the several meals that consisted of popcorn cotton candy and soda.
The sun was warm and he had just got done doing a few laps around the city meaning Carrick now was tired and when Gryphon shifters are tired they either eat or nap and seeing Carrick was Carrick it was a good time for a nap. Laying down in some thicker and colder grass due to the shade Carrick let out a big yawn and stretched out on the grass both wings had been fully spread for some time now just absorbing the rays of the sun. His wings were nice and warm while his body was nice and cold from the shade a perfect combination.
It was a really nice change of pace from the previous weeks chaotic cluster of stuff that had been piling up. Between the lock down at the mansion and the city streets of New York turning to chaos Carrick didn’t have much time to sit around and do nothing. One of the few things he enjoyed doing or rather in this case… not doing.
The lock down meant he was being watched constantly and any chance he had to steal away it seemed his girlfriend wanted to tag along which was nice but he actually had to go shopping at one point. With his eyes closed he shuddered slightly and rolled over onto his back so more of his body was still in the shade. He didn’t like shopping.
One thing he licked less than shopping was school, and that was another reason the lockdown sucked. Sure a few classes like self defense were cancelled due to the professor running into the city constantly but the other classes were still all going on. Meaning during the lockdown he actually was forced into class and the option of skipping and going to the city was usually out of the question. Another reason why he was especially enjoying the sun today on a Thursday in the middle of the day when he should be in class, not outside sleeping in the grass.
Mismatched eyes lazily looked out the window again as he leaned up against the wall of one of the shops they were in. It was a clothing store and it was somewhere he defiantly didn’t want to be. A small bird a sparrow most likely taunted him by doing a quick pass in front of the large window next to him and he grunted and kept his arms folded, ”Lucky lil’ bastard.” Carrick said right under his breath making sure no one over heard him.
If he wasn’t trapped in here he probably would have chased down the bird and if he was in his other form might have even eaten it. He didn’t know why but sparrows were almost as good as squirrels far less filling but still, good eats when he was shifted. Luckily for everyone birdseed was the only thing both halves enjoyed when it came to eating.
A paddy wagon zoomed by while he was looking out the window and he had a sudden urge to run out of the female clothing store and chase it down to see what was happening. ‘Most likely more Eejits’ Carrick thought as his mismatched color eyes shifted back to the reason he wasn’t leaving and the reason he decided to come to the city to ‘shop’. Even in his head the word ‘shop’ sounded painfully boring.
Pair of blondes was before him talking about whatever girls talk about when they are shopping. He stopped paying attention as soon as they entered the store. How did a shopping trip actually turn into that? He figured they’d window shop like always then go to the park and people watch. Carrick shifted his weight again and tried to pretend that everything in the store was somewhat interesting. His eyes shifted from Serena to his girlfriend, Liz the only person he’d willingly sit through this hell for then back to some of the clothing. His eyes spotted a black-laced bra and with a pink bow on it his face turned red and he looked back out the window his feathers on his wings ruffling up a bit due to embarrassment.
A protester walked in front of the window then pointed to Carrick and his attention was caught. Carrick knew this man was a protester because he held a sign saying ‘Keep Muties out of our schools’ once the man was done pointing at Carrick the man then pointed towards his sign. Carrick smirked and nodded his head issuing a thumbs up, he thought school was over rated anyways.
Pushing off from the wall he was leaning on he turned to face the man and once he thought no one else was watching, especially his girlfriend he changed his thumbs up to another hand gesture one that was known as ‘the bird’.
The protester shook his head in disgust and continued walking in whatever direction he was going before, it didn’t matter anyways. He was far to busy... waiting for the girls to finish their girlish things.
Carrick tried not to laugh as Clyde was freaking out about the falling. It would be scary for Carrick too if he didn’t have wings. Fortunately for Carrick and Clyde both he did meaning no sudden drops for the both of them only for Clyde if Carrick felt like scaring the **** out of him again. ”I’m sure the world would mourn.” Carrick rolled his eyes at Clyde’s ‘you’d be responsible’ comment. Seriously over dramatic much it was just a small drop it wasn’t like he’d drop him and let him fall more than ten feet…. Carrick debated this in his mind and decided against it, Clyde might try kicking and screaming making it difficult to grab on to the kid before he became a stain on the pavement. Carrick wasn’t like Shade so the kid was safe.
”I get it, I get it!” Carrick rolled his eyes again when Clyde continued to protest he didn’t help Carrick at all. ”Just saying you got me into trouble then back out of it. You were an unintentional accomplice.” Carrick added knowing it would bug the kid even more before he started to laugh. ”You really want me to set you back down in the middle of the fight we just started? Buncha mutant haters and the like? Real smart plan kid.” and people called him stupid. Carrick’s tail swayed behind him as he turned his body into a shallow dive towards a close building.
The roof closed in on them quickly and Carrick snapped open his wings giving a quick jerk sensation, Carrick wondered if Clyde got motion sickness. ”Fine walk home then kid,” Carrick said as he slowed his decent and slowly let go of Clyde into a small foot drop before flapping his wings and rising another two before looking down on Clyde. ”Fine walk home,” Carrick removed some money from his pocket two larger bills and some smaller once.
”For the bus and all your help.” Carrick smirked at Clyde again knowing it would only infuriate him. ”Have a good one ya lil Eejit.” Flapping again a few times Carrick passed over the roof access door glad the kid had a way down from the tall building he just placed him on. ”Enjoy yer’ day!” Carrick yelled before flying back in the direction of the mansion glad to have the kid out of his wind blown hair.
”It’s funny!” Carrick said trailing off as he sailed over the streets flapping with ease due to the light weight of the small kid, ”Someone always yells some variation of that when ever I save there’ arse!” Carrick lifted his arms bringing Clyde higher into the air till he let him go and quickly caught him, mainly to scare him a bit, ”Might want to be careful, might get your wish.” Carrick laughed as he flew higher into the air the cars below looking smaller and smaller as the wind and cities soundtrack below drowned the sound of rioters out.
”Not pawn, accomplice.” Carrick corrected him as he flew over a rather short building. ”Told ya, couldn’t have done it with out ya, though now that I think about it, it was yer’ fault I was there still in the first place.” Carrick said debating on mentioning that he should drop the little guy for keeping him there. Not that he would, a thief Carrick was but a killer he was not. Not like shade. No he didn’t want to be like that.
”Now where ya going, I’ll drop ya off make sure your there nice and safe, you did help me’ out with my distraction.” Carrick said pointing out once again that Clyde helped him get away with pick pocketing something he figured by now infuriated the do-gooder.
Clearly the kid didn’t know a wink when he saw it. Things continued to progress as verbal insults were now being yelled from someone other than Carrick. ”I’m tired of being pushed around!” Carrick said yelling at Clyde pretending he was really getting into it. At this point the guy he lifted from was about to bail, maybe a little more acting would pull it off.
Carrick waited till Clyde was back on his feet before Carrick started back on him getting in his face now and waving his hands in the air. ”Trying to mind my own business is all! Then you had to open yer mouth and insult me ya grounder!” Carrick yelled again adding a bit of truth behind it. Once the two groups started to get into each others faces as well Carrick smirked to Clyde, ”I know, didn’t think it pick off this quickly.” he said hiding a smirk only to put on his straight angry face again.
”You know what I say?” Carrick yelled at Clyde putting his hand on his collar again. Then he saw it the first strike one of the humans swung on one of the mutants and things erupted quickly. Both sides of the mob started to throw fists and powers at each other. Carrick with his hand still on Clyde’s collar opened his wings and flapped once lifting them out of the chaos, ”I say we get out of ‘ere now!” Carrick started to laugh as police quickly started to arrive in the distance closing in to the location where the small riot started.
”That escaladed quickly, couldn’t have done it with out ya!” Carrick said as he tossed Clyde up slightly and let go of him to readjust his hold on him so he could fly better and make sure he didn’t drop him. ”Look at that… bunch of eejits.” Carrick said shaking his head as he circled over the riot a few times before flying off in the direction of the mansion where he lived.
Carrick tried not to smirk when he heard the humans call him a ‘gene freak’ they were just jealous of his wings. Something Carrick was used to, as his brother had told him once told him, ‘haters gonna hate’ not the best words his brother had ever told him but they were defiantly one of the most memorable words he had ever heard him say. Ignoring the protesters that were quickly gathering around them Carrick shook Clyde again even though the younger mutant was starting to get upset with him. ”Return what ya stole and this will all be over!” Carrick said turning his body so he was now on the other side of Clyde from the guy he stole from.
”What? Because I’m a mutant I stole it?” Carrick asked pretending to be shocked as he let go of the boy and then covered his mouth. ”Me Da’ was right this country is full of ignorant bigots!” Carrick said continuing on with the act as he kept his distance close to Clyde who was obviously upset now. In the background he noticed a few more people gather to watch the spectacle as a few ‘obvious’ mutants gathered into the group giving the other ‘anti-mutant’ protesters the stink eye.
“Let that kid go freak!” one of the human protesters yelled as Carrick turned and gave him an obscene hand gesture. ”Mind ya’ business ya grounder!” Carrick said turning his attention back to Clyde. Carrick winked once, it was quick but hopefully noticeable for Clyde to pick up on it. The guy Carrick lifted from suddenly looked very uncomfortable with all protesters and mutants around them. It wasn’t a huge group but it was quickly attracting attention. Something Carrick was aiming for he found his way out of this whole mess with all the money still in his pocket.
Carrick leaned in and pushed Clyde hopefully igniting this powder keg.
(OOC: Sorry for the delay fighting with the muse on this one)
The furred chest belonging to the beast that was now Carrick puffed out a bit more readying for another roar this time signaling his attack charge. Carrick got down on all fours ignoring the lack of blood from the clean hit he had given her in the air and ignoring his own blood loss most likely from his side where it was suddenly sore and in pain.
She was in his territory without his permission and was not only challenging him but she also took a swipe at him. Carrick roared his displeasure with the female cat and he jumped forward using his talons to give him a nice push off the ground. Fangs now bared he ignored the woman behind him so he could focus on the beast before him he was the alpha and he will not be forced out of his own territory without a fight.
Jumping into the air with his good wing out stretched Carrick lunged for the beast again this time attempting to land on her chest and his face and fangs to her neck. She was the intruder and she will submit to his alpha status or be dragged out even though she was a good deal bigger than him.
Carrick’s mismatched eyes fixed on the man he had picked from earlier, he was bigger than he remembered. Opening his mouth once and then closing it Carrick shrugged, ”Like I said, I saw the lil’ runt here lift it from your pocket.” Carrick said without giving any inclination that it was a lie. ”Saw ‘em do it and I was coming over here to let him know it was wrong and before I could find ya and bring the wallet ta ya, here you are.” Carrick said turning his head towards Clyde, ”Kinda young to be pilfering pockets without ‘nybody knowing isn’t he?” Carrick said laying the accent on thick.
”How much this kid steal from ya?” Carrick asked curiously knowing how many bills he had in his own pocket. The man at this point was red in the face still staring both the kids down not sure who to believe. All he knew was he had money in his wallet before and now that after one of them had his wallet the money was gone. ”Maybe he’s a mutant… explain why he lifted it so well at such a young age.” Carrick said trying to come up with an even better cover story as to why it couldn’t be him.
Turning his face towards Clyde and away and out of sight from the guy he stole from Carrick reached out and grabbed the kid by the collar Carrick didn’t attempt to lift him but rather made it look like he was trying to shake the kid up. ”Alrigh’ buckko! Give back what yer stole or I’m gonna leave you with this guy an he don’t look to happy!” Carrick said just as a couple of protesters were walking down the sidewalk with signs against mutant rights.
“Hey that Gene freak is roughing up that kid!” one of them said to the three as they quickly ran over to the scene to express their displeasure in the situation they just happened to chance upon.
The winged mutants face only continued to get redder as Liz decided to give him the ‘awww’ one thing he learned from his brother was you can never act tough or be tough if women keep giving you an ‘aww’ every now and then. His tail twitched and he looked down slightly too embarrassed to look Liz in the eyes. ”I know I could have…” Carrick said shifting uncomfortably still not used to expressing any serious emotion like this Liz was the first girl he actually made an attempt for.
”How was I to know you would have said yes.” Carrick said his tone taking a mocking one as he tried to defend himself for not asking her out sooner the blood in his face started to dissipate when he changed his tone to a tougher one. ”Didn’t know if you liked me like that…” Carrick said honestly shrugging his shoulders, ”You left and I wasn’t sure if someone else got yer attention or not so…” Carrick said still not sure how exactly to act in this situation.
Blood rushed back to his face when she grabbed onto his arm and for an instant he was alright with his face taking on the color of blood. Another person passed in the line and Carrick moved up a step occasionally glancing over to Liz, ”Welcome… I’m glad you said yes….” Carrick said looking down slightly trying not to catch her eye the more he thought about it. He wasn’t really good with this talk of feelings and how much he liked her or him asking her out.
”….Pretzel sounds good….” Carrick said slightly trying to change the subject. His wing opened up behind him slightly and moved behind Liz’s back almost enveloping her the way an arm would go behind her back.
