The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Ted was intently focused on the conversation that was unfolding in front of him. Well, technically it was behind him, since he was sitting in the front row. But either way you looked at it Ted was paying attention. Ted listened to them all talking and trying to calm things down. He wasn't about to get into the conversation because he thought that it would make him the target of the aggression rather than helping to diffuse it.
Thankfully they were all starting to settle down and the classroom was going back to its uneventful happenings. Tom, as he was called, still didn't seem that believable with not wanting to get into a fight. If he wasn't trying out for a baseball team, which the school didn't have, then why did he carry it around and bring it to class. Ruby walked in and he was thankful that he finally knew someone. Teddy ignored the people in the back a little bit. "Hey Ruby. Nice to see you again." He saw that she had pulled out a few things for class which meant that she was glad to be in class. Ted couldn't say that he was glad to be in class but he was sure glad that she was here.
Great, the teacher wasn't coming back. Who was going to keep the older kids from starting a mutiny and turning this classroom into a war zone. Koga came back to his seat next to Ted and continued talking. "I haven't taken any chemistry classes yet but I would love to play with the chemicals in class." The young boy continued the conversation but he was still trying to figure out what had just happened in the back of the classroom. Since he only just met Koga he really didn't think that he would get told exactly why the girl had sworn or why he'd rushed to her side. Although one thing was apparent...Koga had feelings for her.
“That's not how it works here, Tom. Here, we're a family; we have to be. There's a whole big world out there that hates mutants, if we can't even get along amongst ourselves we're not going to last long.”
What the girl in the back had said was pretty true. He didn't know for sure but he was sure that she was speaking the truth. He'd have to think about that later on.
After a shot bit the lady that seemed to be controllling all the cards came out of the limo from her discussion with the scary lady. She came up to him started to talk to him. For the first time she actually physically addressed him. Ted noded his head. The crowd was still loud and he was still standing in the middle of them all. Photographers and other media groups were shouting and calling to Pompei. It was easy to find out her name whith all everyone yelling it to get her attention.
Now that he was actually being addressed Teddy struggled to pull up the questions that he'd taken the time to make up in his head. He finally remembered one of them. "How did you get people that seem so opposed to each other’s views to listen to what you were saying without getting yourself killed or attacked?" Obviously that's what the bodyguards were for, however they couldn't be everywhere at once. It might not have been the best question to start out with but he was just a kid so so what if he said something that he probably shouldn't have.
The Danger Room. Possible the best invention since sliced bread. The order went... sliced bread, then the Danger Room, then so on and so on. The only draw back was that he needed someone older to be in the place at the same time. Ted stood outside the Danger Room door waiting for someone to come and open the doors so that he could have some fun. From what he'd learned about his mutation, it was all fun and games. He couldn't fight with it and he didn't reallly have any plans to either. His plan was to get better control on his a certain form that he'd had for a while and never really been able to play with it too much. Now that he was living at the mansion he figured now would be the best time for him to play around.
Badgers were an odd species. They sometimes lived in large groups but they could also live with little families. He'd done some research on the animal in his opinion they sounded like a good kind of playful creature. Normally he practiced these things in his room, or somewhere where he was alone. Now that there was the Danger Room he could try out an idea that had popped into his head just the other day. Would he be able to pass for a real badger or would other badgers single him out and avoid him because he was a moving stuffed animal and not a real animal?
Ted helped her up and once she was off the ground she started talking. "I'm Ted Callahan." he replied to her. When she was up and talking it didn't seem like she was interested in stopping. It wasn't that he wanted her to stop but all she seemed to be talking about was how she'd provoked the attacker. "No I didn't." Teddy said about to interject when she interjected herself.
Luckily Callie was able to direct the flow of vomit away from him. Unfortunately it was right onto her shoes. Melted his skin? "So you're a mutant? Me too!" Ted piped up maybe sounding a little too excited for the conversation. The youngster was no expert but it sounded like she was being just a little too harsh on herself. "From what I saw, whatever you did to him was in self defense and not your fault." He was just trying to get her more comfortable and hopefully a little less edgy. Ted however, wasn't really sure that it was working. There was only one way to find out and that was for him to shut up and listen to what she had to say. After all they were about the same age.
“I get that, wait until you sssee the danger room, it’ll ruin video gamesss for you. I want to program dragonage into it or sssomething knew and run around in there. It isss really amazing.”
The classroom was filling up relatively quickly. There weren’t a whole lot of people there still but it seemed like most were steadily flowing into the room. “Ya I haven’t gotten in there yet. I think I’m too young to get in there by myself or something like that.” Ted didn’t really believe the response that he was told about when he was first shown around, but it was a rule and no matter how badly he wanted to see the place he couldn’t get in. a smile did cross his face at the thought of it ruining video games, because video games were the greatest thing since sliced bread and if the Danger Room ruined that then it had to be something special.
“Oh, ummmmmm, thatsss a hard one, if I can only have one, Thisss sssemester it will be chemissstry, the real world applications are too vassst to ignore.”
Ok, Koga either had a bad lisp or it was part of his mutation. Ya… We’ll go with part of his mutation. Whatever the reason was, it didn’t affect his speech to bad and Ted was still able to understand him well enough. Pretty soon another voice chimed in with his opinion of his favorite class. Teddy was glad that they were all fairly talkative and even though they were sitting in the back of the class, they were still inclined to give their opinions to the kids at the front of the class. Another smile crossed his face; this was shaping up to be an alright first day. The name Carrick was overheard by the young mutant as he introduced himself to someone else. He could remember that name. It was like Koga’s name. Unique and memorable.
Another couple students walked in that he didn’t recognize at all. One of them was a girl who seemed like she was wrapped a little too heavily for being in doors. However, there was something odd in the way that she passed by the two in the front. The young boy wasn’t that skilled in the art of relationships and so it seemed just a little odd after Koga and her exchanged glances. After the guy with the bat entered it was a little less of a pleasant day. The girl let out a little bit of profanity. Very loudly and unexpected profanity at that. Ted looked around to see if there was something wrong. About the time it took for him to turn around was about the time it took Koga to jump out of his chair and move protectively in front of whomever she was. Now it was more apparent that there was obviously something going on between the two of them. It didn’t really matter what but it was clear that Koga was a very protective person when it came to girls he liked.
Ted didn’t like fights, plain and simple. There were several reasons and the main one was that he didn't really know how to fight. Also if it came down to using mutations his wasn't exactly something that he could use to fight. Ted also didn’t like to see people get hurt. It just didn’t sit right with him. Unfortunately there wasn’t anything that he could do to prevent it; fortunately enough the others weren’t interested in fighting either, at least not at the moment. The last thing Ted needed was to be in a room where a fight took place. Great…school equals drama. Just great…
Ted continued to wait as patiently as any 14 year old could while the two women talked in her car. It might be a long conversation, but then again it might not. There was really no telling as he was still waiting at a good enough distance to where he couldn’t overhear what the two were saying. Ted continued to look around as he thought up more questions for him to ask her when she finally got to him. the crowds might have been anxious to talk to her but he was actually surprised this powerful lady had seen him and picked him to talk to her.
There were three rules for winning a fight against someone that is bigger than you. 1) Surprise the attacker and make sure they go to the ground. 2) Kick them while they are down. And rule number three, which is probably the most important rule to beating up someone bigger than you… Don’t let them get up and hit you. Since he didn’t have much in the way of what anyone might call experience in martial arts, he followed these rules to the letter. Thankfully it worked. As he was kicking the guy Ted didn’t hear anything she was saying to try and stop him. Once the robber ran away Ted’s leg finally stopped swinging.
After about a moment or two he turned to look at the person lying on the ground. Her words started to reach his ears. Why would she not want him to stop this man from attacking her? It just didn’t make any sense. “You’re welcome.” Ted said to her. It didn’t matter if he didn’t have to do it, it was more a matter of him needing to do it. As a kid brought up with normal beliefs, he learned that if someone is being hurt and can’t defend themselves then it is your obligation to help them. “There’s just no possible way for it to be your fault. He wouldn’t have stopped beating you until you were unconscious or worse.” Ted told her. Still not one for wanting to get into fights he did think that she shouldn’t blame herself for something someone else was doing to her. That just didn’t make any sense.
Ted could finally get a good look at her. She was about his age and he thought it odd that she was here in this alley. Of course he did suppose that it was possible that it wasn’t her choice to come here at this time of night. Ted held out a hand and said, “Hey let me help you up. I’m Ted by the way and what’s your name?” His childish curiosity started to get a hold of him and as is usual with youngsters he might make friends easily.
Ted had been spending more and more time roaming around the New Yrok City. This time it just happened to be the Central Park area. What could a kid his age do at this time of night? Ever since moving to the mansion he didn't have a curfew so he could pretty much do anything he wanted anytime he wanted. It was great. What would a kid his age do with so much free time and so much freedom? No one to make sure he was doing something wrong and no one to tell him where to go. It was great. Life was good. Ted had been day dreaming and didn't notice that he was wandering towards a darker area of Central Park where there was less light and had less of the hustle and bustle of the city dwellers.
Now why he was wandering in this area he didn't know, but since he was here he continued to walk on since he didn't see anything that would concern him. Teddy continued on his way when he heard what sounded like screams and shouts. Most of the time he wouldn’t have done anything but walk by; however, this time it peaked his interest and overall want to help the unfortunate. He wasn’t exactly sure why since he’d never been one of the hero types but no matter why he was doing this Ted knew that what he was doing was right. He only hoped that he would be able to do something to make a difference. True he was a mutant, but he was also a 14 year old boy whose mutant powers included blending in at a Build a Bear workshop.
The young mutant hurried down the alley to where the yelling got louder and louder as he drew closer. In the distance he saw what looked like a young girl lying against a tree while a man, older than him, was beating and cursing her. Ted hadn’t played a moment of tackle football in his life; however, he knew that catching someone off guard and in the side would probably be enough to scare him away. Or so that was the plan and he hoped it worked. A backup plan wasn't something that was in his mind right now if it didn’t work. He moved into position before he charged the robber. Hitting him like a professional tackler, that just happened to be a 14 year old, he knocked the man over. “Back off!” Ted yelled at the man. He jumped over to the man and started kicking him like the robber had done to her.
The young mutant waited patiently for the two older women to speak. While he waited he supposed that he should think of something to ask her. After all, he wasn’t expecting to catch the attention of such an important and powerful person. What would someone like me ask someone like her? Ted thought as he waited between the crowd and the guards. Maybe it would be easier for him to think of something someone else might ask her.
What about…Does she really think that just her speeches were making a difference? Or how about…How did she get people that seem so opposed to each other’s views to listen to what she was saying without getting herself killed? Ya those were good questions. That’ll definitely make her think that he’s more than just a kid who happened to be passing by and saw a giant crowd listening to something one person was saying.
For a second he thought that the woman had forgotten about him and that she was about to leave without even talking to him. The fact that she didn’t continue getting into her limo told him that she wasn’t about to leave without talking to him. ted continued to wait patiently until he was signaled by her that she was ready to talk to him.
The kid he was sitting next to put down his book and started talking to Ted. “Hi Koga, I’m Ted or Teddy whichever you prefer.” His name wasn’t anything special as far as he was concerned. And there was certainly nothing cool about his name like with Koga’s name. “A little bit…” he answered truthfully, “I’m looking forward to the classes that let me practice my powers more than math class.” Teddy answered.
It seemed like Koga was one of those weird students that actually liked being at school. He was, after all, only here because his parents were making him. There was another boy who walked in shortly after him. Koga and the other boy seemed to know each other as they exchange short greetings. “What’s your favorite subject here?” Ted said trying to keep their conversation up as they waited patiently in their homeroom class until they went to their first actual class where they would do more than just sit there.
Ted watched the lady as she ended her speech and began her walk through the crowd. She was certainly a brave person to be speaking like that and walking through the crowd afterwards. However, it seemed like all that were there were all for her and that none of those that he could see would be against her. Teddy liked that lady and he thought that she was going to address him. Unfortunately her attention was taken away from him and placed somewhere else. He turned his attention to it because he was curious to see what had stopped the lady from talking to him, and because he wanted to see what seemed to make the entire crowd want to recoil at her. The woman who was obviously a mutant seemed to want be infamous among the older people of the crowd. Ted didn’t watch the news very often so he didn’t know anything about this person.
The nice woman hadn’t forgotten about Ted when she encountered the robotic looking woman. She waived him over and Ted quickly came after her like a puppy following its owner. Her security guards moved just enough to allow Teddy to get through the crowd and to the woman. Others tried to get through but the security guards were just too good and weren’t letting anyone else in. It seemed that although she hadn’t forgotten him she thought he should hang back for a minute while they talked. The young mutant did so and let the two older women talk about whatever it was that they needed to discuss. He would be told when they were done and he could talk to her.
There wasn’t much for a young boy in New York City to do. Walking around Times Square or hanging out at the park seemed like the best way for him to spend his days time whenever he wanted to get away from the mansion. The people were nice but everyone every once in a while needs a break from the same people they see day in and day out. It was pure happenstance that he was walking through the area when he heard a large commotion of what was going on. Being that he was feeling curious he walked over and into the giant crowd of people. What is going on here? This woman is talking about some weird stuff. Maybe I should get closer to find out.
As he made his way through the throng of people, which wasn’t very easy since there were so many, he was able to get closer to hear better what she was talking about. What he’d heard so far sounded interesting. Ted seemed to agree with what he heard and what he understood, however, some of the things she was saying were a little to advanced for him.
Greed has poisoned men's souls - has barricaded the world with hate; has thrown us into misery and bloodshed.
We have developed speed but we have shut ourselves in: machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little: More than machinery we need humanity; More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.
The woman was throwing similes and metaphors out the wazoo. We have speed but we’ve shut ourselves in? What? This woman’s talking crazy talk. Why are people listening to her? It was almost too much for him to understand. If he repeated it to himself a few times and mulled over her words he understood her. This woman spoke truth. He was getting pumped up listening to her. Her words inspired action, and Ted, although he wasn’t much of one to act rashly, was thinking that this woman actually knew what the heck she was talking about. At first it was Martin Luther King getting people to accept people of different colors, and now this powerful Asian woman speaking of equality among mutants. It was amazing that she displayed such courage in the face of many that might try to stop her from speaking such words.
Her words were blatant calls to action and the throng seemed to lap up her words like a cat to milk. Even Ted himself couldn't help but get caught up in the grandeur of her speech. As an impressionable teenager he felt that he could take strength that as he got older more people would see things her way. But her words heartened him and encouraged him to not let the current time they live in to get him down and fear humans because of what they might do to mutants. Her mannerisms were something that she seemed to adore. At the conclusion of her speech people tried to flock to her. The guards were the ones that kept people from getting to close. Pressure… immense pressure from others, much bigger and heavier than him pushed him forward and closer to her. As much as he didn’t want to get closer to her security guards he wanted to be able to talk to her about her speech. Maybe she could give a speech at the mansion. Or maybe she would be able to give more speeches, that way he could listen to her more and then discuss the possibilities that she was proposing and how she planned on making them a reality.
He’d told his parents that he’d take classes. They’d told him that if he didn’t study then they’d bring him back home. And home was one place he didn’t want to be. Ted loved his parents but he wanted to learn how he would grow up without the pushing of his parents. It’d taken a lot of persuading and a lot of arguing the points back and forth, a lot of pros and a lot of cons for him to be going here. Although he wasn’t necessarily taking as many classes as his parents would have liked him to, he was actually kind of glad that he would be able to be taking classes. Ted had gotten to choose which classes he wanted to take instead of taking all the mandatory classes that he needed. The young man was more focused on playing with his powers than he was with learning about tessellations, or diagramming sentences, or learning to speak in front of groups of people.
Home room. What a weird idea. Was it just some bureaucratic way of making the school day last longer? Or was it some clever ploy conceived by teachers to make students like school better. With a deep breath and a large sigh Ted walked into his home room class. There were some students there but it wasn’t as full as he thought it might be. He still didn’t know many people but a plus side to school is that he was able to meet and greet plenty of people. What better way to meet people than to take a class with them in which they are, presumably, struggling with the same material as you are. Seeing the many unfamiliar faces he walked in and sat down next to the one that seemed to be rapt up in whatever he was reading.
