The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was about 25-30 seconds later when the seizure seemed to subside. Her body didn't move for a few seconds before she slowly regained some semblance of consciousness. She tried to focus her eyes onto the random guy who hadn't seemed to lost his mind. She realized she was stabbed. And something else happened. She felt... Empty. She couldn't focus it, though. She knew she was badly hurt but her body felt... Numb. Kind of. It was like half of it was numb but the wrong movement would cause sharp pains throughout her body. She could feel her muscles cramping but couldn't really feel the pain. She wasn't even sure what she felt.
She quickly and very shakily grabbed the man's arm tightly (although... Maybe tight to her?) and with a dry, tired voice, "I-I-m a m-m-mutant. Rad... Rads." She closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. She tried her best to get it out but it was so tiring to talk, "Reel-l-leased radi-radi-tion." Her brief eye movement towards him showed concern. They shouldn't be in here if she was still radioactive and everyone else was. She knew she went supernova but was surprised to see he wasn't sick. Maybe it vanished already? How long had it been? Oh well... She took a few deep breaths as she tried to focus on surviving and tried to remember what had happened.
At least she didn't have that sickening fear in her gut, at least not as much. She tried to listen to his words, but she couldn't really follow along... Don? Guity 2? Everything seemed to run into each other. She knew she was falling in and out of consciousness but she still tried. She nearly shook her head to try to gain some sense, even though it would be pointless, but she realized there was a hand holding her head.
Celeste felt like the woman had been through a lot and to be honest, it made Celeste feel pretty sad for her. The world was a sh*tty place and people who didn't deserve things had a lot of sh*t thrown at them. Celeste learned it a long time ago due to her own reasons, but ever since being in New York and meeting so many people. She realized her own situation really isn't all that unique. People were treated like a crap no matter where or who they could go.
She grinned and nodded, "Oh? I haven't heard of that one before. I'll have to check it out sometime and read it." She nodded a confirmation. It sounded like an interesting book. Although, the girl could relate to it? Did someone in her family have cancer, specifically lung cancer? Did she? All of those thoughts made her worry even more for the girl. She gave a concerned smile. On a side note, "I think my favorite book is My Sister's Keeper. It's about a young girl with cancer and her sister is born only to be her organ donor, basically. It's pretty intense. I cried through the whole freaking book, honestly. Probably followed by the Chronicles of Narnia, honestly."
She perked a brow and non-nonchalantly, "Why do you think you can't?" It was quiet, in a soft, caring way. She hoped the girl wouldn't take it the wrong way. She nodded, "It's just busy right now, mainly. I mean, we can work it out if you don't mind." She gave the girl a smile. It would help, after all. She wouldn't be swamped with a million things to do and she could focus on more important things. She would feel bad leaving Booker alone. She'd have to see how Larraine worked before she could commit to anything, though.
Once inside the coffee shop, she giggled as Larraine mentioned she'd never been in one and as she watched the writers. It was pretty cliche and cute, so she had to nod, although she was curious as to why Larraine had never been in a coffee shop. With a perked brow, "What? You've never been in a coffee shop before? What about like... Starbucks?" That was a popular, extensively well known possibility. They were kinda similar - it's just usually the coffee shops had better coffee. Usually, anyways. Feeling a squeeze on her shoulder, she gave the woman a smile as she stepped up to the cashier, "Um, a double chocolate chip frappe for me, and whatever this awesome chick would like." She motioned for Larraine to tell the cashier what she would want.
Celeste sighed as she stared at the papers, unsure about what to really do. She couldn't go to jail with this, hopefully. Maybe they could trash her credit score? Ugh. Why did she have to deal with this? Maybe she would be fine with a trashy credit score for a while. It'd eventually pop off, right? H*ll, how did they even know where she worked?
Her attention was grabbed by a man who walked in, gave her a smile, and went over to a booth. She folded it in a way, entirely accidentally, that the large 'defendant' word were sticking out of the apron. She gave a returned, weak smile as she slipped the papers into her apron. She walked over to him and gave him a warm, sad smile, "Good evening, my name is Celestina, I'll be your waitress tonight." Could she really keep saying for the rest of her life? She was growing to dread it more and more every day.
With another smile, "What can I get you to drink? We have water, Coca-Cola products, tea, orange juice..." She pulled her receipt booklet out and her pen as she prepared to write down his order. Once she got his drink, it was time for the usual attempt at up sell, "Any appetizers? We got some really good onion rings, if they're your thing."
Celestina nodded and looked over where the woman nodded her head. Ugh, of course. It was in the entire other direction. It didn't really surprise her as much as it just annoyed her. Granted, if people put the books back correctly, she'd probably be out of a volunteer position. That would be pretty sad, too. Celeste realized she had been a little bit grumpier than usual. Weird.
Once they were at the correct shelves, Celeste gave the woman a smile and scanned the shelve, trying to find the rest of the books in her series. After some dust getting swiped off, stepping on her tippy toes once, she found them! She quickly took them off and wiped the dust off of them and handed them over to Nyssa. She smiled. So she was new to the city, that was great. It wasn't long ago that she was a newbie in the city, too. She nodded, "Well, welcome! It's a great place. A bit intimidating, but a great place."
The woman asked for her recommendations and she paused, considering, "Well, some of the big, popular ones would be those, Perry Hotter, The Hunger Games, The Lovely Bones, Secret Life of the Bees, The Time Traveler's Wife..." She paused, thinking some more, "If you're looking for more not so well known, anything by Tamora Pierce is pretty good. The Secret Garden. The Uglies series. If you like fantasy, some sci-fi, this is a pretty good section." She motioned to the shelves in front of them. She smiled, "I presumed due to the whole Lord of the Rings premise, but is there a different genre you prefer?"
She nodded and then laughed at his comment. He was a funny guy, that's for sure, "Yeah, no sugar is definitely pretty much a loveless coffee." She chuckled for a minute afterwards. It was pretty funny. And Celeste did love herself some sugary coffee and well, sugary anything. Not the healthiest thing but she was here for a good time, not a long time. Right?
In either case, it was time to enter the shop. She thanked Elliott for holding the door for her and gave a smile towards the waitress. The waitress looked a bit freaked out by their appearance. They were pretty roughed up, with cuts and bruises on them. Probably wasn't the most normal looking scene, that was for sure. She tried to think if someone had ever come into her Starbucks back in Regina or even in at the Wallflower Diner looking like they probably did. People were trying to mug her? It took her a second to realize he was trying to cover it up - which made sense, probably. Celeste usually wasn't one to lie, but it might be the safest option for them in this situation.
She kinda wished he would have mentioned that was going to be the game plan before they started talking with the waitress, though.
She nodded a confirmation, "It's just a scratch... Needs a little band-aid and it'll be fine." She gave a warm smile to the woman. She put her hand on Elliott's arm to make it known to the waitress that Elliott wasn't the dangerous one, "They got away, they kinda freaked after he punched their leader. I don't think they were really expecting it... It was just a couple kids, though. Hopefully, they learned a lesson. I'm sure they did."
She sighed, she was actually a little tired. "We're fine, we just need to clean up this and a pack of ice for his eye. They a good throw in." She gave a smile to Elliott, "Do you mind if we sit there?" she pointed towards a large booth table that hopefully had plenty of room for the both of them.
Celeste was glad the subject moved on, especially considering how weird Marisol acted about it. She just hoped it wouldn't put a wedge in their friendship, at least she really hoped it wouldn't.
She smiled and nodded, "Good... You don't know how much it means to me." She grabbed Marisol's hand and squeezed it. Once they had their signs, finished their food, and a couple hours later it was time to meet up with the rest of the organizers. Celeste had already talked to them about Marisol's adapted abilities - and agreed that adapteds were just as a minority as mutants that needed protection and equal rights. Governments would use them for bad, too. Probably, anyways. Celeste had been more nervous about Marisol, Booker, adapteds, and mutants ever since the freaky incident with the blonde woman Mari ran into the bathroom. Maybe that was even part of the reason she had gotten so involved?
Celeste introduced Marisol to the organizers and despite Mari's usual awkward stumbling, they all seemed to find each other friendly. That was good, so good. After all, these people were probably going to be Celeste's friends for a long time. Marisol was practically on top of her, but Celeste was okay with that. She wanted her to feel safe, especially considering it was a huge social risk and potentially dangerous with her adapted abilities... Which, speaking of which, about 12 people in the front.
A man came over towards the organizers and gave them a big grin, almost like he wanted to ask questions. He lifted his arms up when he was close and what we can only presume is try to use his power but he ended up screaming, "What the f**k?! Why isn't my powers working? What the h*ll is this?!" His rage began to intensify as Celeste's eyes widened. Oh no.
Celeste finally had reached, at least in guessing, the point where she couldn't really feel the pain that had dominated her body. The huge bruise covering her back from slamming into a car, the scrapes and cuts from glass and the asphalt that littered her body, not to mention the massive overload of her powers that had wrecked her body. Releasing all of her radiation probably wasn't the best thing to happen, but when your body is about to give up anyways, why not go out with a bang?
She could hear footsteps and the panic that set in her throat didn't seem as bad... Maybe something had happened to whoever was causing this? She coughed, her body fading in and out of consciousness. Was Gawain alive? Devon? What about the girl? She tried to pull herself up but she felt the jolting pain from the knife wound in her side. She promptly fell back down and let out a loud groan. Had she killed her father? She shouldn't have. But he stabbed her, right? What else would someone expect?
She coughed, blood coming up as she rolled onto her back, staring up at the ceiling. She heard a voice... Who was that? She tried to focus her eyes towards the man who was near her... In and out of consciousness, she tried to mutter "rr-r-ra," deep breath, "tion.. air..." Her eyes rolled back into her head one more time as she had a small seizure and passed out again.
Celeste noted the teary eyes in the woman and she gave a concerned smile towards her as she explained that she wasn't in the best situation. Celeste understood how she felt - at least, being in difficult situations. Celeste had no idea what the girl was going through but she knew that she could be there for her - after all, that was what a good person would do good. Celeste nodded as she listened to Larraine speak.
Once she finished speaking, she nodded her head slightly, "We all go through some rough times, it's nothing to be ashamed of. And you're definitely not crazy." She put her hand on her shoulder and gave it a soft squeeze. After all, Celeste was living on Booker's couch at the moment. Granted, she was going to be moving in to the Mansion in the coming week or so and going to the dorms for college. In the meantime, though, she was still on a couch. Without a real home. But she was happy, and that was the important thing, at least.
She nodded, "It's one of my favorite hobbies but... I'm not reading anything right now." She sighed as she put a book onto the book cart, "I'm so busy, I barely have any free time. Between finishing up high school, getting ready for college, volunteering, and working, I'm just swamped." They were making some good progress on dusting and everything else, "What's your favorite book?" She asked a few seconds later.
She giggled, "It is, it really is. But he's one of the greatest guys you could possibly meet. I'm sure you'll meet him, being in the library and all."
After a couple shelves, Celeste heard Larraine mention that she seemed familiar. Celeste shrugged, unsure, and then analysed the girls face for a moment. She wasn't entirely sure if she had ever met her, but maybe? "Hm... I don't think so? Not off the top of my head, at least." She paused, trying to rack her brain if she ever had met someone named Larraine or seen someone like her.
Suddenly, a couple hours passed by. Celeste checked her watch her eyes wide, "Oh, it's break time! Let's go to that coffee shop!"
After a few moments, they were outside and heading over to the coffee shop.
Celestina had woken up only the day before from her coma. When she woke up, it was an... Awful experience. The tubes, etc they had to remove was excruciating painful and her body felt like it had been hit by a train. Heck, it still felt like it had been hit by a train. The large bruises on her were slowly changing colors, preparing to heal. Her stab wound was okay, but still had stitches in it. She'd have to take extra careful of it to make sure it didn't get infected. Lucky for her, she was able to find Vanessa's work number and manage to get a hold of her. She ended up bringing her a pair of comfortable clothes to change into. It made her feel extra better to be in her own underwear and her own pajamas in a hospital.
She was really happy with the nurses, here, though. They had to wear radiation suits when they came in to take blood and such and one of the pregnant ones had to be removed from working with her due to safety concerns, which was kind of sad. They took it though, smiling, happy, and didn't even complain about the extra safety precautions. It was kind of like a really, really painful vacation. Ugh, the pain.
She was laying back in her hospital bed, watching some drama shows. Her legs were aching. The nurses made her walk every 1 hour to help her regain her strength. She understood why, but it just seemed excessive to Celeste. She didn't feel like there was a difference expect that her aching and pain kept coming back. The hospital offered to give her more intensive drugs like morphine to help with the pain, but Celeste didn't want to risk taking any type of strong medicine. Instead, she opted for large doses of Advil except during the more painful procedures.
A nurse came in and placed a chicken sandwich on a tray in front of her. Celeste didn't quite enjoy hospital food but considering it was hospital food, it wasn't that bad.
She perked a brow. Coffee could be expensive, but most people could afford it every now and then. Or they had a coffee maker, which wasn't too expensive to buy the coffee for them. She gave the woman a smile, "Well, when we go on break, how about I treat you to some good coffee? There's a little cafe right around the block."
Celeste smiled at the girls word choice, "It's nice to meet you, Larraine." She seemed friendly and funny. It was going to be a good day working with her. Plus, she could work towards getting that coffee later in the day with her. Nothing could beat getting some coffee!
She nodded her approval as the woman talked about her book recommendation. Celeste noticed that she would ramble and suddenly stop talking. And then start again. She was probably nervous, it was always a bit nerve wrecking to do new stuff like this. "I need to read it, definitely. I'm kinda surprised I haven't. I love all books, honestly." It was true, too. She had read and continued to read all sorts of books. She currently had a copy of one of her favorites, the Postmortals, in her purse. It was more science fiction. A future where no one could age due to a vaccine for aging. It was a good book, but it had some drawbacks.
She laughed at her comment and she shrugged, "This is true, but hey, you never know. All sorts of weird things kill people. Luckily, I don't think it's fatal and I'm a bit of an exaggerator." She chuckled and began to head over to the science fiction section in toe with her. She pulled her mask on as they arrived at the first long, long shelf. Celeste checked their section on the email one more time and she sighed, "Yep... This is it." She went a couple aisles down and pulled two book shelves carts. One for her and one for Larraine. It was time to dig in, "It is a little dusty. Not as bad as the section me and Booker worked on."
She couldn't help but laugh at the mention of Booker's name, "Oh yeah, and guess what? His last name is Bookman. It's honestly the best thing ever."
She playfully rolled her eyes at Jude, "True, I guess you're right. I still wouldn't think you're lame, though." She chuckled and gave him a wink. She was a bit stubborn when she wanted to be and when it came to people feeling bad about themselves or worrying about things like what Jude was, she became especially stubborn. In either case, they were just getting to really know each other. They were both going to have secrets, bad things about themselves, but they will also have great, amazing things, too. It was just a part of life.
She laughed and gave him a smirk, "Yeah, I can't wait until my legs are not nearly dead. It would be pretty nice." She took off with him following her. In normal circumstances, it probably wasn't the safest or best option. Celeste was not known to really have a good sense of direction. Luckily for them, they found the targeted area. She nearly let out a sigh of relief that they made it. She hopped up onto the retaining wall and let out a sigh of content. Her feet were no longer carrying her weight and it felt amazing to just sit down for a bit. She took this time to take a big bite into her pretzel.
She took a sip of her Italian soda, "This has been amazing but we really need to do this when it's not as busy." She chuckled and looked around the fountain. It was mostly deserted, which was nice. Everyone was probably at the cafeteria trying to either get some food or find a table to eat. Lucky for them, they had this brilliant idea.
She contemplated the question, "Hummm... I mean, I think I'm done with the big rides. Maybe one last one? Plus, this isn't going to really fill us up, but food plus the intense rides aren't a good combination. Maybe like the Ferris wheel, or that one that goes really slow up and down?" She couldn't quite place the name on it, "Or the ship one that goes back and forth." She shrugged, "What do you think?"
He was a good kid, at least as far she could tell. He listened, he enjoyed his food, drinks, and deserts. She just really, really hoped he had a family that cared about him and that he just slipped away somehow. He seemed to like the crazy colored ice cream, which was also really good.
She stopped to check a sign for the toy store, confirmed they were going in the right direction and continued forward.
She nodded, "Yeah, I am nearly positive you do." She smiled and gave him a wink, "But you can never have too many toys, right?" She booped his nose and pretty quickly they ended up at the Toys R Us. She grinned as they arrived at the entrance of the store, "So, what kind of toys do you think you'd like? Just take a look around and go in the direction that strikes your interest. I'll be right behind you."
She stared out the window as they turned and... Dangit, they were totally coming here. She had heard from some of the other waitresses that a group of boys would come in every now and then in soccer uniforms. It looked like it was her lucky shift. She just really, really hoped that they would tip. Sometimes, it felt like younger, college students didn't care enough. They were shouting NYU, though, so it was a good chance she'd see them more. That was her college of choice, after all.
She perked a brow as they simply ignored the hostess and went straight to the tables. The hostess didnt' seem to mind though, she looked like she was nearly drooling over several of the soccer players. Celeste rolled her eyes, mainly to herself, and then she decided it was probably time to go over and introduce herself. They seemed happy, probably just won a game. She was making a lot of assumptions and she immediately felt guilty for it. They were just customers wanting some good food and she'd be happy to serve it.
With her mind back in the right place, she went over to the large group and gave a friendly, small smile. First steps were introductions, after all, "Hi! I hope you guys are having a good night. I'm Celestina, I'll be your waitress for the night." She took a breath, it was going to be hard remembering all of these drinks, "Will these be separate checks or together...?" Please, please be together. At least, please let it be not 12 separate ones.
Once that was confirmed, she would begin taking orders for drinks, "So, what kind of drinks would you guys like? Let's start over here..." She motioned towards the one at the very end of the table, closest to the door. That should be a good order of things... If they go with it, at least.
She nodded in return to Mari's nod. It was strange the vibes that she was getting from Mari when they talked about Jude. She definitely didn't seem happy or excited about it - she didn't even really seem to want to meet him. It was strange but like her, she dropped it. There was no reason to continue the conversation, anyways.
She gave a weak smile and shrugged slightly, "Okay, okay... I mean, I guess so. I hope so, anyways."
She nodded as she listened to Marisol's response, "Yeah, that makes more sense. Mutants Rights are Human Rights. That sounds a lot better, anyways." She began to write in different colors what would be on her poster - thankfully, Marisol was there to help her figure out what she was going to put on her poster. Surprisingly, despite all the involvement she had, she struggled a little bit with figuring out cool, catchy phrases that other people seemed to have a knack for.
She leaned over and looked at Marisol's poster as she was writing and she gave a huge grin and a small giggle, "Aweee... You're the best, Mari. The hearts is really the defining feature." Marisol was the sweetest, awesomest friend ever. "Thank you so much for coming, it means so much to me."
She gave Marisol a genuine, thankful smile. She perked a brow at Marisol's melodramatic wording. She knew she was being serious, but at the same time, it was definitely melodramatic. Celeste couldn't help but start laughing with Marisol. She wasn't even sure what the end of the march would mean for her or her future. Maybe this is what her calling was - being a politician? Maybe she was actually the person that people warn there kids about. That wasn't too good to think about. Celeste would be a better politician, though. She'd be a Leslie from Parks & Recreation!
She was glad Mari's food was good. That was a good sign, at least. She sighed as she stared at the poster, "Maybe Human Rights is Mutants Rights? Or... Maybe... Humans Rights for All," she grumbled more to herself than to Marisol.
Celeste kept a brow perked as she listened to Marisol ask if he was busy. She nodded, "Yeah, work conflicts." She shrugged, "I can't wait for you guys to meet, though." She wasn't entirely sure what it was but Marisol just didn't seem that happy about it. She wasn't sure why - she hoped that she wasn't jealous or anything due to her lack of sexuality. What if she was? Celeste did her best to not make anyone uncomfortable and the vibes she got from Marisol weren't that great.
She nodded excitedly, "Yeah, definitely. It might just help!" She leaned over and took a big bite of the falafel. She savored the taste as she chewed through it and sighed with content as she swallowed, "Mmm, wow, that is so really delicious. Maybe we can at least get people to come eat."
