The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Celeste waddled back to her hospital bed, sitting down with a small groan. She was still sore. She wanted to hire someone to photograph all the bruises she had all over her, just so she could have them for the future when she wanted to remember why to never leave the house on Halloween ever again.
>> "I'm doing fine. DocProf says no one suffered any permanent harm. And you might just have saved all our asses by knocking the witch out..."
She smiled and nodded, “Good, good, I’m glad… I don’t think my powers cause long lasting damage but it’s good to know for sure, at least. What happened to her? Is she alive? Jail? They haven’t told me everything and my memory is pretty… Foggy. Especially after getting knocked into the car. I remember the paramedic surprisingly, before I fell into the coma.” She shivered as her mind remembered the pain.
Escaping out of the coffee shop didn’t take long. And she doubted they would be followed or even questioned by the police either way. It wasn’t like they had committed a crime – technically. Not one they could prove, anyways. She nodded her agreement, “People are d*uchenozzles, that’s for sure.”
She shrugged and grinned a little, “You being a mutant is obvious? I mean, I can tell… But I am one too, so I kinda feel it. I don’t know, it’s weird. I doubt the other people there knew anything besides the guy. You could tell the people thought he was crazy, anyways.”
She nodded, “I am. Radiation. Spooky stuff.” She chuckled.
On their way back to the library, she shook her head as Larraine began to apologize. It really didn’t bother Celeste and while Larraine definitely could definitely should pick her battles more carefully, it wasn’t something that bothered Celeste. The guy did deserve it, after all.
“No, no, don’t apologize. You’re fine. He deserved it, honestly. It can just be… Dangerous. This city is pretty open towards mutants but there is some really bad people here, too. I’ve been attacked just walking down the street, getting off a bus stop with another mutant… Just be careful, okay.” She gave the girl a smile and gave her shoulder a small, encouraging squeeze again. With a little chuckle, "I can't have my new favorite librarian volunteer getting hurt due to some bigots with an attitude problem."
She was homeless and didn’t know how to control her powers. It broke Celeste’s heart, truly. She didn’t understand how the world could be so cruel to good people – and she could tell Larraine was a good people. What would she have done? Personally, she would have ignored it, but she could control her powers. Most of the time, anyways. She chewed her lip as she thought, “I’m not sure. Probably just ignored it, personally. But, I mean, it’s not like I haven’t went crazy before. I gave a bunch of kids radiation sickness in my class when I was younger. Literally everyone.” She shrugged.
She thought for another moment, “Have you… Considered checking out Xavier’s Sister School for the Gifted? It’s a school for mutants… They provide housing and stuff. I go there, actually.”
>> "I think I'll pass on the ship unless you want to revisit this pretzel."
Celeste couldn’t help but giggle at the joke. Gross, but true. It probably wouldn’t be very nice to revisit their little meal in the form of vomit. With that in mind, “Yeah, you’re definitely right about that… Ferris wheel it is.”
She nodded her agreement, “I think it would be really nice, too.” She gave him a soft smile, he was adorable. In either case, she took a bit of her pretzel and in the silence, finished away at her meal. She got through most of her meal but, seeing him pick around his, she didn’t really dive too much into it. It would be kinda weird for her to pig out and him just be picking away. Maybe the rides made him not feel too hungry, after all?
She bit her lip, deep in debate. Any kid traditions? She honestly wasn’t all that sure. Sure, she knew the rides, the expensive food, the ferris wheel was the last big thing. She decided on a shrug, “I don’t think so… I mean, we make our traditions, right? So, I don’t think so. The rides are the big stuff. I mean, the only thing we didn’t do was try to win a giant bear from those little game things.” She didn’t really care about trying to get a bear from one of them, either. She wasn’t sure if he had room for a huge bear, but she sure didn’t.
And suddenly, they were on one of the ferris wheel car. It seemed suddenly… A lot more intense, really. She felt his arms go over her shoulders and she naturally felt herself lean against him as she took a breath. There were the butterflies, the nervous, good, weird feeling in her stomach.
>> "Would you like to go on a date with me? A real one? I-if you're looking for that kind of thing, you know?"
Her eyes widened a little bit at the sudden question. He said the big ‘d’ word. She kinda viewed this as a date, but she wasn’t entirely sure if that is what it would really be called. She turned a little red and moved her face so she could look into his eyes before nodding slightly, “Yeah, I would love too.” She smiled and giggled a little, “I was considering this a, uh, sort-of-kinda-date.”
Celeste relaxed as she saw the guy call her a weirdo and move on, leaving her six-foot field and then shooting his colors out of his arms again. "F*cking d*uchenozzle," she muttered under her breath. She put her hand on Mari's arm and gave her an encouraging squeeze, "You okay?"
She shook her head, "You're fine - most people don't understand. If anyone says anything again, I'm just going to say it again. I mean, it's basically a mutation itself." She shrugged and let go of Mari's arm.
From there, the march took them to the front of city hall where a platform had been set up for the speaking and yikes! Her own. She wasn't sure if she could do it honestly. The organizers, including Mari, were ushered up towards the front. She glanced over her shoulder to see several counter protestors forming right next to them. It was a surprisingly large, albeit small in the context of the hundreds of marchers.
They were yelling, with their bigotted signs. Several marchers were screaming back at them and the organizers ignored it, but Celeste bit her nails as she watched the 'Death to Mutants', 'Put 'em in the Camps!' 'Make Camps Great Again!' slogans. They were really close to them, it had to be dangerous. Where was the police, anyway? Wasn't there suppose to be some type of blockade? The two groups were nearly on top of each other.
She was so excited, she couldn’t believe it. The turn out was astounding – it was remarkable that so many people actually even showed up. They were maybe even going to exceed the MyFace page attending thingy. Celeste was going to have to add this to her resume. Actually, that would probably be a bad idea. Mutant, a protest, etc? Wrong employer and they’d probably try to get her
She bit her nails, deep in thought for a moment. It seemed like Mari and the organizers were fine and even though they knew Mari would turn their powers off, they considered her a mutant in themselves. After all, there was probably an X-Gene that actually did turn powers off. Kind of like what Jude could do. Granted, he had all sorts of other stuff he could do but the premise was the same, after all.
Celeste stomach dropped once the guy came over and his rage didn’t really get contained easily, “What do you mean you’re an off switch? Why don’t you turn YOUR powers off? Lady, this is a mutant gathering – don’t you think people—“
Celeste cut him off there, “Dude, chill out. Stay about six feet away and you’re going to be fine. Her ability is constantly on - she has no way to turn it off.You don’t have to be up on her like that, anyways.” She could totally turn this around on him if she wanted too and it would totally work. Six feet, while sounded far, was actually fairly close.
The man seemed to chill out but Celeste wasn’t entirely sure, so she cautiously began to move in front of Marisol.
She smiled and nodded, “Megalodons are pretty awesome.” She chuckled and perked a brow as he stopped moving. Her eyes followed where she thought they were at and… Legos. So many legos. She nearly laughed but she simply followed the young child as he ran over.
She nodded with a big grin, “Yeah, pick which one you want!” Hopefully, they wouldn’t cost too much. Eh, she’d figure it out. The kid deserved it. Granted, next would be finding him a place to actually be able to play with them was another story. She really hoped the mansion could help. Maybe the counselor lady? She hadn’t met her, but she had an amazing reputation.
Celeste could tell Maya was looking over her - seeing how much damage Halloween night had done to her. It was a doozy, and she had a stab wound which will leave an awesome scar... Plus, a few smaller ones scattered over her body due to the glass. The large, blackened bruise on her back was healing but nothing permanent there.
>> "... Celeste, I'm... really sorry."
She realized Maya awkwardly hugged her back. She shook her head, "Maya, it wasn't your fault... That girl was in our heads, there is no way you could have known." She gave her a smile and rubbed Maya's arms, "Please, don't be sorry. I'm just glad we all made it out of there alive. You, me, Devon, the blonde girl... Plus, I'll have an awesome scar now!"
Celeste's memory was really fuzzy of that horrible night, so she didn't know that Gawain had actually stabbed her. She was told he probably thought it was a witch, poor guy got thrown around. "I'm sorry I gave you radiation poisoning... and everyone else... How are you recovering from that?" She was red. She felt bad for all the people who got affected by her, even the girl that ended up dying due to her last radiation blast. She had actually killed someone. It nearly made her nausea to think about. She was also embarrassed that she wasn't even able to control her powers in such a high-risk situation.
Granted, in her defense, she only just started having professional training so maybe it's not that surprising.
Celeste didn't want to cause any discomfort to the woman, so she figured she'd drop the conversation fairly quickly. She mumbled something about financial aid and something about trying but she chose not to go further with the conversation. She probably already thought about it, anyways.
Celeste wasn't entirely sure but the man was sure, especially after his pain and the blood began to pour out of him. Gross. Celeste perked a brow to Larraine and watched the guy. It was pretty convenient - the pain he felt just as she was saying he was crazy. A few 911 calls from concerned people and Celeste knew they had to leave. If they found out there was a mutant causing this, they'd bring in a METAbot and they'd all be screwed.
Once outside, Celeste motioned for her to follow her into another store that was about a block down. She closed the door after Larraine, "People are disgusting, but... Are you a mutant?" She raised her arm, the flickers of her radiation still filtering through the light. "It's okay if you are, I don't blame you. He deserved it." She sighed as she released her charge into the wall.
>> “I… I can get to the hospital and visit or something,”
Celeste frowned with a small, sad sigh. He didn't want to come - the paramedic would leave, Devon would probably bounce, and she'd just be by herself in a hospital bed. Probably dying with all the blood she was losing or some piece of glass stuck inside some crucial organ or something. He probably had more important things to do, though. It wasn't like they were best friends - they had only met once. She stared at the ceiling, at least the best she could. It would be... Whatever. She was used to it, anyway. Being by herself was her thing, at this point in her life.
>> "I'm glad we found Celestina's emergency contact. So convenient to have someone to look out for her and not leave her on her own in this sort of situation."
She perked a brow, a confused, puzzled look coming across her face. What? He wasn't her contact. H even said so. She didn't even have an emergency contact. She just put a fake person who doesn't exist and a phone number that doesn't exist. She had a few people she figured could be her emergency contacts, but she really just didn't want to have that conversation with them, at least not at this point in her friendship with them. Her mind couldn't put the pieces together but she said nothing. She didn't really have the energy. Maybe some of that evil ladies powers, magic, or whatever was still going on?
A few seconds later it seemed that the other paramedic was going to take Devon over to the truck and check him out. That was good. At least they could make sure he was okay. Was any of them okay after what just happened?
>>"Don’t worry. We won’t leave you alone.”
She smiled, kind of nodded but ultimately just stared upwards trying to focus her eyes on some of the lights. She didn't believe him like she couldn't believe half of the crazy sh*t that had just happened. Or that she had a stab wound in her side. The 'we won't leave you alone' was a pretty lie. At least, she figured as much. Maybe she wouldn't be. Maybe.
>>"Anybody ever tell you that you’d make a decent vampire?”
She chuckled weakly, "N-no... M-maybe that'll be my costume next year." She coughed, a little bit of blood spilling out. Actually, there was no way she'd be going out next year on Halloween. No way, Jose. No one could pay her enough. She shook her head, a little belatedly, "I-I'm never d-doing anything on Hallo-oween again."
She looked towards the ceiling, trying to see if she could make out Gawain. She shrugged a little, her eyes unable to focus that far, "M-maybe? Gender shifter... Jumps through mirrors. C-can you tell if h-he's okay?" Deep, rough breath and a small coughing spell.
>> "It's okay. You did good, Celestina. Hold on just like you are. You don't have to do anything."
The cute beard guy thought she did good. That was a plus, considering how terrible this Halloween had been. Was it even still Halloween, actually? She wasn't sure and she wasn't sure she even cared. Her eyes panicked for a moment as he got up and left her. She didn't want to be alone, not now. She whimpered a little, closing her eyes tight as she tried not to remember the horrible things that had happened just a few minutes ago.
But, he was back before she even realized it. With a sigh of relief, she nodded a confirmation to him and Devon, "Y-yes..." He was probably worried about getting cancer in a couple years or worried about her leaking radiation all over his hand. Everyone always did. It wouldn't be enough to hurt anyone, not at this point. In either case, he needed to know a big caveat of her power, "N-no cancer r-r-risk. T-t-emporary cell damage only, will h-heal... Hasn't effected you if you're.. Not nausous... Main sign." She held her eyes closed, tightly for a moment as a few streaks of pain shot through her body.
She heard Donnie speak and she sighed in relief. The other girl was okay. Gawain was okay. Devon was talking, walking - he was okay. She was on a gurney. It had been a surprisingly not very painful move, actually.
He definitely wasn't her emergency contact because she didn't really have one here. Her eyes looked pleading towards AJ and, Devon probably couldn't see, "H-he can come?" She really didn't want to be alone, not at this time. The med guy was here, but he'd probably be leaving her to do paramedicy stuff once they were back at the hospital. Granted, she might be alone either way. Who knows if she'd need surgery or something. She took a breath, "J-just don't want to be alone..." It was embarrassing to admit and in ordinary circumstances, her cheeks would have been flaring red. She was just... Still terrified.
Celeste nodded, concern quickly showing across her face. She was homeless? The poor girl. Life was so freaking unfair. She knew there was something going on with the girl, but she didn't know what until she just told her. She gave her a concerned smile, "I won't tell a soul, pinky promise." She sighed, depressed about the girls' situation. She wished she could help but heck, she was living on Booker's couch. She'd be in the Mansion soon. "What about financial aid...?" That might could help, at least get her into a community college. Pell grants and stuff.
She nodded, "It's a hard read, that's for sure." Celeste yawned as they moved a bit forward in the line bit by bit. It was pretty busy, surprisingly busy. She turned to look towards Larraine. She wondered why Larraine was homeless. Mutant? LGBT? Run away? She may not ever know unless they became closer but it wasn't something Celeste was sure if she could ask at this point.
She chuckled, "Trueee... Busy, busy, eh. I use to work at one back in Canada. It was stressful but I enjoyed it enough." She shrugged a little. It was only a second later that she had her order and then waited for Larraine to tell the cashier what she wanted. The cashier seemed fine, getting a minute to breath from the influx of customers. Celeste heard some noise from a man behind her, but rolled her eyes and looked forward. Lots of people were jerks, impatient, and didn't give a rats *ss who knew it. It was really annoying.
French Vanilla Mocha. Yummy choice! Celeste nodded her approval, paid the cashier, and took their ticket number. It'd be a couple minutes. She glared back towards the guy, about to say something until she saw Larraine do... Something? The man was on the floor in pain pretty quickly, though. Either way, Celeste was impressed. Maybe it was just a coincidence? The man, however, disagreed with that - "You b*tch!!! YOU! What did you do to me?!" He groaned in agony, squirming on the ground. Celeste kept mostly quiet, kinda wanting to kick the guy. She glared towards the cashier, who nodded and actually went over to help make their order.
Celeste went over to the guy, "She didn't do sh*t to you, you d*uchenozzle. Karma." She had a small flare building up in her arm, just in case. Maybe she did do it to him, though? If that was the case, she was a mutant. And if that was the case, maybe she could go to the Mansion...?
"Ticket number 356!" the cashier rang out quickly trying to hand over the coffee to the two girls. Celeste glared and grabbed both coffees and handed Larraine's to her. She motioned for them to begin leaving as she eyed the guy. Never know what a crazy guy might do.
Celeste had eaten about half of her sandwich as she flipped through T.V. channels, yawning. She nearly wanted to just go back to sleep but the coma of 2 weeks left her really, really not wanting to do that. After all, she had lost two weeks of being awake. Not a cool thing to lose. It could have been worse, though, so she was grateful that she and her friends came out of it alive.
She heard a knock and then a voice that she knew all too well - Maya! Celeste nodded like Maya could somehow see her before slowly trying to get out, letting out a small groan as she stood up, "Yes! Of course, of course." She felt like an old lady, really. "I'm so glad to see that you're okay with my own eyes!" She perked a brow at flowers that basically hid her entire upper body, "You know, I'm not terminal, right? I'm going to be alive for years to come." She chuckled a little, wincing as some pain streaked through her side. She came over and took the pot of flowers out of Maya's hands and put them down.
A very weak, small smile showed up on her lips. She couldn't stand the word rad ever since she was a kid and kids kept calling her rad girl or Raddy Ratty. It was just a flashback memory that she wished she didn't have. Either way, she loved the beard so she could make an exception to the rules for him. Not to mention the whole he was probably going to save her life kinda thing...
He moved in closer to hear her, thank goodness. She didn't have to speak nearly as loud, which made her visibly relax a little bit. The small amount of adrenaline left in her system seemed to be keeping her relatively lucid, for now, at least.
>> "Don't worry about anyone else, so far everyone we've found has been stable. Unconscious, but stable. Although, there are some people stuck to the roof. Got any ideas?"
She tried to nod, but like usual, unsure if her head actually moved, "Blonde... girl. she'd..." She really wasn't sure what she did. She tried to remember, but couldn't. It was like she could jump around, "She could... Jump... Around? I-I don't know how... Tried to stop it..."
>>“Please don’t fire!"
She knew that voice. That was Devon. He sounded okay, at least not like what Celeste sounded like. She tried to sit up instinctively upon hearing his voice but was quickly grounded by the rampaging cramps and intense pain from, well, everything. "Devon, you're-re okay!" she tried to muster out. She could hear something about him being a friend and she tried to nod again. He was a friend. He was okay. She sighed with relief. Her purse... It had what they needed to know, "Near car... I was slammed into?"
>> "I saw your sparkles earlier, Celestina. My partner Donnie said it was a ghost. It's how we found you so fast. They're all gone right now. I guess you're empty, then, huh?"
She perked a brow. Maybe she was a ghost. That would explain the pretty bearded guy next to her. Granted, she didn't expect to be a ghost to be this terrible. But she wasn't a ghost. This was either... Real or a dream. It was real... Everything that had happened was real. The radiation usually didn't go away that quickly - it usually lingered for hours if she was there. Why would it just disappear? No one else was sick?
With a confused look, she kind of nodded, "I... Think so-so, I fe-el empty. It..." A few seconds pause, "usually lingers u-until I'm a-a-way from it." Her voice was raspier. Either way, "No sparkles in l-light, no r-r-ads."
She felt him let up on her wound and she groaned with pain. The blood was still coming out, but not nearly as fast. How much blood had she lost? Who knew...
She let out a very weak, pained chuckle, "I-it makes sense w-why. " She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Devon was okay. She was probably okay. Maybe.
She groaned as she tried to move but her body and the cramps nearly made it impossible. Some tears formed in her eyes as she realized how terrible of a situation they were all in. Them.. Gawain?! Devon?! Where are they? Are they okay? What about the blonde girl?
Thinking was so tiring.
>>"Do you know who you are? We know there were mutants fighting here. Can you tell me your name? Anyone else injured we have to look out for?"
She thought she did. But could she speak? Of course, she wasn't entirely sure what was happening. Was she still in a dream? Was this real? She wasn't really sure, "Cel...estina." She squinted towards the man. He had a nice beard, though, "I li-ike your be-eard."
Totally rad, though, really? She wanted to roll her eyes but she realized she had her eyes already closed. Ugh.
>> "Hey. Wait. Don't you pass out on me. I-I need some answers, here. Your power is... nuclear fission? Are you going to explode? We're planning to move you to a gurney and drive you to the closest hospital. With children and old people and sick people. I need to know, are you a danger to others?"
She tried to regain consciousness long enough. Nuclear fission? Exploding? She could feel the tension from him and it pushed a small dose of adrenaline. It even made her realize - Gawain, Devon, blonde girl! She tried to shake her head, but unsure if she moved or not, "No... Just release. In t-the garage. Gaw-ain, De-von... Are they o-okay?"
Another brief moment of consciousness, she tried to think. Was she a danger? She didn't think so. She felt... empty. Like there was nothing left inside her. She tried to look for her purse... It had her medical instructions in it. She thought she had kept it under her arm tightly but maybe not.
"Purse... has all the instructions..." She took a deep breath and looked towards the man, "If there are sparkles out of my blood, need rad suit, taking blood samples... I-I think I'm empty, will regen though... Garage is irradiated... Only... will go away quickly if you move me.." A sharp, deep breath in, she was so tired, she looked him straight in the eyes: "no sparkles out of me, no radiation is leaking."
She smiled towards Brooks and watched as he looked around. It was almost like he wasn't entirely sure which way to go. But, he ended up walking, moving on. They passed several sections. Celeste followed behind, content to just make sure he didn't get lost again.
Her favorite toy? Hm, what was her favorite toy? She gave a playful scoff, "Totally dinos. T-Rex, Longnecks, you know." She gave him a grin. Sure, she didn't play with them anymore. But, she easily remembered how much she loved them when she was a kid.
