The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Celestina had woken up only the day before from her coma. When she woke up, it was an... Awful experience. The tubes, etc they had to remove was excruciating painful and her body felt like it had been hit by a train. Heck, it still felt like it had been hit by a train. The large bruises on her were slowly changing colors, preparing to heal. Her stab wound was okay, but still had stitches in it. She'd have to take extra careful of it to make sure it didn't get infected. Lucky for her, she was able to find Vanessa's work number and manage to get a hold of her. She ended up bringing her a pair of comfortable clothes to change into. It made her feel extra better to be in her own underwear and her own pajamas in a hospital.
She was really happy with the nurses, here, though. They had to wear radiation suits when they came in to take blood and such and one of the pregnant ones had to be removed from working with her due to safety concerns, which was kind of sad. They took it though, smiling, happy, and didn't even complain about the extra safety precautions. It was kind of like a really, really painful vacation. Ugh, the pain.
She was laying back in her hospital bed, watching some drama shows. Her legs were aching. The nurses made her walk every 1 hour to help her regain her strength. She understood why, but it just seemed excessive to Celeste. She didn't feel like there was a difference expect that her aching and pain kept coming back. The hospital offered to give her more intensive drugs like morphine to help with the pain, but Celeste didn't want to risk taking any type of strong medicine. Instead, she opted for large doses of Advil except during the more painful procedures.
A nurse came in and placed a chicken sandwich on a tray in front of her. Celeste didn't quite enjoy hospital food but considering it was hospital food, it wasn't that bad.
When Maya found out that Celeste was awake and out of the coma, her first instinct was to run to the hospital to see her. She made it as far as the front lobby mirrors before she paused, trying to come up with an idea of what she was going to say to the girl she had stabbed during the Halloween insanity, making her explore in a cloud of radiation. According to DocProf, Mirror was now done with dealing with the aftermath of the radiation poisoning, or as good as. No one had been permanently hurt who did not deserve it. Temporarily, however...
Mirror felt incredibly guilty about the whole thing. She should have known better. She should have been more careful. Maybe there should have been a curfew for Mansion students on Halloween... coulda, shoulda, woulda.
Maya had finally convinced herself that the more she stayed away, the worse the whole thing would get. So today, she was at the door of Celeste's hospital room, carrying an armful of lowers so large she could barely see over it. It was not going to fix what she had done, but at least it was a very visible apology.
"Hey" she said, knocking before she poked her head in, relieved to see Celeste was awake "Can I come in?..."
Celeste had eaten about half of her sandwich as she flipped through T.V. channels, yawning. She nearly wanted to just go back to sleep but the coma of 2 weeks left her really, really not wanting to do that. After all, she had lost two weeks of being awake. Not a cool thing to lose. It could have been worse, though, so she was grateful that she and her friends came out of it alive.
She heard a knock and then a voice that she knew all too well - Maya! Celeste nodded like Maya could somehow see her before slowly trying to get out, letting out a small groan as she stood up, "Yes! Of course, of course." She felt like an old lady, really. "I'm so glad to see that you're okay with my own eyes!" She perked a brow at flowers that basically hid her entire upper body, "You know, I'm not terminal, right? I'm going to be alive for years to come." She chuckled a little, wincing as some pain streaked through her side. She came over and took the pot of flowers out of Maya's hands and put them down.
>>"Yes! Of course, of course. I'm so glad to see that you're okay with my own eyes!"
Celeste sounded cheerful, and happy to see her. She also looked lighter, and definitely not completely healed yet, which was clear from the way she moved, but she had no resentment in her eyes against the mirrorwalker as Maya balanced in with the armful of flowers. She even got out of bed to come over, something which Maya would have protested if it had happened any slower.
>>"You know, I'm not terminal, right? I'm going to be alive for years to come."
"Yeah, but..." the flowers were taken, and then Celeste was hugging her. Maya froze, not sure what to do. Celeste had been skinny to begin with, but now after the... incident, Maya could not help but see her somehow... more fragile. In the end, she returned the hug, a little awkwardly. "Celeste, I'm... really sorry."
Celeste could tell Maya was looking over her - seeing how much damage Halloween night had done to her. It was a doozy, and she had a stab wound which will leave an awesome scar... Plus, a few smaller ones scattered over her body due to the glass. The large, blackened bruise on her back was healing but nothing permanent there.
>> "... Celeste, I'm... really sorry."
She realized Maya awkwardly hugged her back. She shook her head, "Maya, it wasn't your fault... That girl was in our heads, there is no way you could have known." She gave her a smile and rubbed Maya's arms, "Please, don't be sorry. I'm just glad we all made it out of there alive. You, me, Devon, the blonde girl... Plus, I'll have an awesome scar now!"
Celeste's memory was really fuzzy of that horrible night, so she didn't know that Gawain had actually stabbed her. She was told he probably thought it was a witch, poor guy got thrown around. "I'm sorry I gave you radiation poisoning... and everyone else... How are you recovering from that?" She was red. She felt bad for all the people who got affected by her, even the girl that ended up dying due to her last radiation blast. She had actually killed someone. It nearly made her nausea to think about. She was also embarrassed that she wasn't even able to control her powers in such a high-risk situation.
Granted, in her defense, she only just started having professional training so maybe it's not that surprising.
They hugged. It was good. A little awkward, because of the injuries, but at least not hostile. Maya knew she was going to struggle with her own conscience for a long time to come yet, but at least she had faced Celeste now. That was a step forward.
>>"Maya, it wasn't your fault... That girl was in our heads, there is no way you could have known. Please, don't be sorry. I'm just glad we all made it out of there alive. You, me, Devon, the blonde girl... Plus, I'll have an awesome scar now!"
Maya sighed. She had her fair share of scars too, but not many had been given by friends or teammates. She knew that Celeste will remember the story every time she saw it. Maya remembered all her stories too. It really did not make her feel any better.
>>"I'm sorry I gave you radiation poisoning... and everyone else... How are you recovering from that?"
"I'm doing fine" Maya shrugged "DocProf says no one suffered any permanent harm. And you might just have saved all our asses by knocking the witch out..."
Celeste waddled back to her hospital bed, sitting down with a small groan. She was still sore. She wanted to hire someone to photograph all the bruises she had all over her, just so she could have them for the future when she wanted to remember why to never leave the house on Halloween ever again.
>> "I'm doing fine. DocProf says no one suffered any permanent harm. And you might just have saved all our asses by knocking the witch out..."
She smiled and nodded, “Good, good, I’m glad… I don’t think my powers cause long lasting damage but it’s good to know for sure, at least. What happened to her? Is she alive? Jail? They haven’t told me everything and my memory is pretty… Foggy. Especially after getting knocked into the car. I remember the paramedic surprisingly, before I fell into the coma.” She shivered as her mind remembered the pain.
Celeste went back to bed. It was clear from the way she moved that she was still in pain, and not really strong enough to walk around yet. Maya pulled a chair over and sat by the bed. Now that she told Celeste she helped save them all, she blonde looked a little more pleased with herself. Even if it had not been intentional, she did help take the witch down.
>> “Good, good, I’m glad… I don’t think my powers cause long lasting damage but it’s good to know for sure, at least. What happened to her? Is she alive? Jail? They haven’t told me everything and my memory is pretty… Foggy. Especially after getting knocked into the car. I remember the paramedic surprisingly, before I fell into the coma.”
"She's dead." Maya sighed. She was not pretending to be too sad about it. The witch might have looked like a girl, but she was something... else, something evil, beyond human or mutant. Maya was sure she'd struggle with the thought later, but for now, she was glad the villain was not about to return.
"I don't remember any of the paramedics. I'm told they had to scrape me off the ceiling?..." Maya smirked. Nothing about that night made sense. "Well, I guess... I'd love to say this was the weirdest Halloween I've ever seen, but on the X-team, that's a difficult claim."
She sat on the bed comfortably. It was a lot easier to just sit or lay down than stand or move right now. Everything still hurt. Maya, while weaker, didn’t look like she was in too much pain. That was a good thing.
>> “She’s dead.”
She nodded slowly, “She died? Did the police shoot her?” She wasn’t exactly sure when the police showed up but there had to be a reason why she’s dead. She nodded, “Yeah, I kinda remember that. The blonde girl apparently could do something like that? I’m not entirely sure.”
>> "Well, I guess... I'd love to say this was the weirdest Halloween I've ever seen, but on the X-team, that's a difficult claim."
She shrugged a little, “Oh God, really? Worse things have happened?"
Celeste was taking the news relatively well, given that her explosion probably had a large part in killing off the witch. Maya sighed and shrugged.
"Not sure. Probably a combination of the things we threw at her, and maybe her own powers as well. I wasn't really around to see."
Or rather, she was, but mostly unconscious, stuck to the ceiling.
>>“Yeah, I kinda remember that. The blonde girl apparently could do something like that? I’m not entirely sure.”
Maya nodded. "She had gravity powers. She was an X from the other side... I'll have to find her at some point."
And thank her. And probably talk to Other Becca about her team.
>>“Oh God, really? Worse things have happened?
"Well... worse is a relative term" Maya frowned. This one had probably been the most directly violent, but they had seen some pretty disturbing stuff in the past. "Not the first time with psychics, though, I can vouch for that. There was the nightmare house, and then the zombies that one year... it's like people with messed up powers like to celebrate Halloween more than a three-year-old."
Celeste nodded slowly and coughed a little. That made sense - maybe they weakened her, plus she had to have weakened herself by using so much power. It was remarkable she even had that much power. She probably could have changed the world if she wasn't so... Well, wicked.
"Oh... That is pretty awesome, actually. Her power was pretty cool, honestly. Gravity things? Pretty nifty way to do things..."
She perked a brow and stared for a second, "Hold on... Zombies? Zombies actually happened or was it just in peoples mind, like this... This crap that happened to us?"
>>"Oh... That is pretty awesome, actually. Her power was pretty cool, honestly. Gravity things? Pretty nifty way to do things..."
"Yeah it was cool when I was not throwing up" Maya smirked, taking a seat by the bed. The first responders probably had a field day with finding someone attached to the ceiling by sheer gravity. Too bad Maya did not remember any of that. Well, at least Celeste was entertained.
>>"Hold on... Zombies? Zombies actually happened or was it just in peoples mind, like this... This crap that happened to us?"
"Most of the time it's psychics" Maya sighed "Sometimes it's people with... puppeteer powers or whatever. Those are creepy. But no, not actual zombies. We have not been that screwed yet." she added, reaching out to knock on the wooden bedside table "But with more universes, who knows..."
She winced, thinking about poor Maya. It had to be rough to have gone through all of that. She bit her lip as she shuffled in the hospital bed some. She really hoped next year wouldn't be the same, though. That would be pretty crappy. She wasn't sure if she could handle it next year. She made a mental note to do nothing that day - just stay in bed all day and hide. That would be a great way to avoid crazy stuff.
She gasped a little as Maya continued talking about previous Halloweens. She shook her head... "Yeah... Alternate timelines can invite all sorts of crazy sh*t..."
>>"Yeah... Alternate timelines can invite all sorts of crazy sh*t..."
"Yeah. No kidding" Maya sighed, running a hand through her hair. It still pained her to see Celeste in a hospital bed. "I mean, we always think we train enough, with the kinda stuff Sam puts on in the DR... but when sh*t really hits the fan, more often than not it is just a whole lot of chaos. I am not sure if that is a fault in our training... but really, I should have been way more professional back in the garage. I'm sorry."
She really hoped there would be no next time, but with the X-men track record, that was not exactly a safe bet. So she would just have to do better. Next time.
Celeste listened to Maya as she spoke. She could see where it was going as soon as she said 'think.' Maya probably blamed herself, in some way, some of the crazy sh*t that happened in that garage.
She gave Maya an encouraging smile, "Maya, you did the absolute best you could. No training could prepare you for something like that and there is almost no way to have an organized response when you are in the middle of something terrible like that. This wasn't your fault - in fact, imagine how bad it could have been without you. That is the scary part - what if you weren't there to help?" She was getting a little dark in her attempt to be optimistic.
She shook her head a little, "All I'm saying is that you did your best. That's all I or anyone else could have asked for." She leaned her head back, a little tired at the sudden emotion in the situation.
