Individual
Character's full name: Quincy Buttercup Archer Alias/ Nickname/ Code name: (if applicable) Quin, and she dares you to call her anything else! Gender: Female Age: 19 Date of Birth: 12/16/2001 (That’s Sagittarius) Nationality/ Ethnicity: American Birthplace/ Home/ Place of origin: Indianapolis, Indiana
Appearance
Hair color and style: Straight and dark red, hanging to nearly the middle of her back. Usually worn pulled back from her face in one way or another. Eyes: Brown Height: 5’11’’ Build: Slender, but athletically built. Visible mutation: (if applicable) N/A Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings: One piercing in each ear Other features: n/a
Everyday clothing style: Quin is a really laid back girl. If she’s not in police blues she’s usually wearing something comfortable. She’s girly enough when she wants to be, so she’s got any number of cute ensembles that she delights in wearing as long as there’s nobody around from work to give her a hard time. Her fashion sense ranges from pop culture fashionable to what she likes to call “hippy-chique” she grew up seeing her parents in many combinations of tie-dye, cotton, etc, so it’s kind of a part of her. She knows that’s not normal fashion, though, and tries to adapt her clothing to whatever is appropriate for her current social situation.
Uniform: (if applicable) Police Blues
Sleepwear: Usually shorts and a tank top, nothing dramatic or slinky. Quin has always worried a bit about people who sleep in things like that, what would they do if there was a fire?
Miscellaneous clothing: A few dresses here and there, various dress pants, nothing incredibly eccentric though. Quin grew up in the Midwest in a city that was usually a little behind the latest fashion trends. Usually, she dresses for comfort and functionality with fashion in her mind, but a little lower on the priority scale than one might think. She’s got her police blues, and most days that’s all she needs.
Character
Personality: (How you character behaves, social tendencies, quirks, etc.) Quin is a free spirit, and a very independently minded woman. She doesn’t go out of her way to seek approval from anyone but herself, but she has very high personal standards, so the two usually go hand-in-hand. Because of the way she grew up, Quin is very accepting of all sorts of people and is determined that her Police work will not jade her opinion of humanity as a whole. She is known to randomly insert astrological information into otherwise completely intelligent conversation. Despite the fact that most of it is easily disproven by science, Quin believes that sometimes things happen that are too much to call coincidence. She tries to keep this information out of her work life, because people give her a hard time, but she doesn’t always succeed. Quin laughs easily and often, sometimes dealing with the harsher realities of her job by acting frivolous. She’s driven and determined, and sometimes obsessed with the task at hand. (She’d blame it on her being a Sagittarius) She’s incredibly competitive, and isn’t beyond trying to make even the most menial task into a competition sometimes.
Confident, but not arrogant, Quin isn’t afraid to show off the physical attributes she’s worked so hard to hone over the years. (As long as it’s in a tasteful way, of course) She’s comfortable interacting with men, but because of her job and slightly tomboy’ish nature she sometimes has a tendency to come across as a buddy more than a possible romantic interest. Because of this, she’s usually very up front when she’s interested in someone.
Hobbies/ Interests: Sports, particularly kick-boxing, which she did competitively throughout her childhood. She loves jogging, and will join in pretty much any sport if invited…even if she’s kind of terrible. Quin isn’t opposed to watching a little television, but more than anything, she loves to be outside. She loves summer for the warmth and growth, and winter for the crisp weather and pretty landscapes, and she camps whenever the opportunity arises…just to get back to her roots. It’s also not out of the ordinary to find Quin doing yoga in a park when she’s not hanging out, having a drink with other officers, or working on her kick boxing skills in the gym.
Quin also has a strange affinity for plastic building blocks and as such she’s got several tubs of them in her apartment, as well as a few models she’s built that she uses as decoration. She also has a habit of carrying a handful with her at all times, they can be found in her purse, pockets, backpack, or whatever else.
Job or part time job and description: (if applicable)
Police Officer for the New York City Police Department, working towards Detective in the MRC Division.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns:
Quin has a distinct fear of failure. Being a self-made over achiever has ingrained this trait in her very deeply, and she doesn’t like to do anything she doesn’t feel is her best. Quin is also painfully aware of the fact that she’s a woman in what’s sometimes still considered a man’s profession. New York is a rough place to work the beat, and sometimes Quin worries that she’s not cut out for the job and that people will view her successes as a result of her mutation or gender rather than her abilities.
Oh yeah. She’s also afraid of spiders, those grates on the sidewalk that look like they’ll drop you into a bottomless pit if you walk on them, and heights. (Not that she’d admit any of this in most situations)
Special talents: (not related to mutation)
Quin is a runner, and she does it for fun, to stay in shape, and as an excuse to be outside. She also does kick-boxing and aikido, alongside her training for the police department. She’s not a talented singer, she’s not an accomplished writer, she’s smart but not genius level, and she’s not outrageously well-read. Quin still likes to color if she has the opportunity, and she’ll pick flowers and put them in her hair if she’s feeling particularly in tune with the Earth on a particular day.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: (please explain) Good. Quin has really strong feelings about right and wrong, and that’s what made her ultimately decide to become a police officer. She doesn’t believe that people are predisposed to act a certain way, and she tries to see the best in people. Slow to judge, Quin always tries to look past an action to the motivations behind it before she makes a decision about a person or an action. She’s a firm believer in the law, though, and it has a tendency to be very black and white. Good people sometimes do bad things, it’s sad when that happens, and actions don’t necessarily define a person, but the law is the law. If you break it, you have her and the rest of the NYPD to answer to.
Quin also believes that police officers are there to uphold the law and doesn’t necessarily think that para-military or vigilante groups have a place stepping into police business.
Mutations
Mutation description:
Synthetic Polymer Manipulation:
Quin has the ability to manipulate any object made from a synthetic (man-made) material. This manipulation includes the ability to reform the material, move it within a certain range, and refine synthetics from other, natural occurring, materials that may be mixed with them.
Synthetic is defined as any man made material. This excludes naturally occurring metals, stone, conglomerates, plant materials, and animal materials. Most synthetics are produced from mixing and reconstituting naturally occurring substances, and Quin is as confused by the distinction as anyone. She simply knows that she cannot manipulate any naturally occurring substance. She’s tried. Materials such as plastics, kevlar, and synthetically manufactured fabrics such as polyester and nylon respond to her powers while things such as cotton, rubber, metals of any kind, stone, living or dead plant or animal material, will not.
Strengths:
Quin is able to manipulate these synthetic materials in a variety of ways. She can reshape materials that are within six or seven feet of her depending on the size of the object she is trying to manipulate. Most synthetics are very strong, durable materials and can be used in a variety of ways. Kevlar, for example, is a synthetic material used to make the lining of bullet proof vests. Quin is capable of manipulating this material. She could separate it from the rest of the vest, reshape it into another form, and move it somewhere else within her range.
Weaknesses:
- The larger an object is, the more difficult it is, and the longer it takes for Quin to work with it. If an object is larger than Quin’s body mass (around 160 lbs), she is unable to work with it at all. The object must be broken into pieces that are smaller before they can be worked with.
- If Quin is touching an object, she can manipulate it indefinitely, within her size/weight constraints. For example. If she’s holding 3 plastic building blocks, she would be able to mold them like silly putty for as long as she felt like doing it. If she’s touching a 100 lb slab of plastic, it would wear her out significantly to mold it into something else.
- If Quin is not touching an object, she’s constrained by her weight limit. (see below) The longer she tries to manipulate something without physical contact, the more straining it is. Side effects begin with headaches, and advance from there to extreme exhaustion.
- Quin is restricted by the law of conservation of matter, she can neither create, nor destroy matter, only use what she has access to. If she only has access to five legos…she can only create something that would be the size of those five legos combined.
- Quin cannot blend or mix synthetic materials, and can only work with one at a time.
- If she refines a synthetic from the other things it’s mixed with, she has to be able to deal with the other materials. For example, to remove Kevlar from a vest with a cotton outer shell, she would have to find a tear in the shell to remove the Kevlar, she could not simply will the Kevlar to remove itself. If she refines a synthetic material from something that is tall or unbalanced…she has to deal with the fact that the object might fall.
- The strength at which she can move or propel the objects is equal only to that of her physical strength. Anything more and she’s overpowered, just as if she were physically moving the object. This means that she cannot “pick up” objects that are heavier than she would normally be able to carry.
Fighting Style
Explanation: Quin is adept at Aikido, having studied the martial art since she was young and competing in tournaments through childhood, adolescence, and even some as an adult. She’s tall, so the style isn’t incredibly well suited for her, but she’s very slender so the off-balanced throws are beneficial.
Pros for fighting style: Quin is able to work quite well in close quarters combat. Combined with her police training, she’s developed her skills so she can stand up in a fight with someone much larger than she is.
Cons for fighting style: Quin is still very slender, and no matter how much she works she’ll never be able to put on the same amount of muscle mass as some other people. Hand to hand combat is nice, but it doesn’t work very well against guns or ranged powers. She can still be overpowered and fought.
Faction Allegiance
The X-men/ The Order/ The Kabal/ Other/ Unaffiliated:
None, Quin works as a police officer with the NYPD. She’s not a big fan of people who try to subvert the law, though. None of the vigilantes in the city had to work nearly as a hard as she did to get her badge. They blunder things a lot, and are almost always either in the way, or stealing the NYPD’s glory. It’s frustrating.
History Of Your Character
Quin is what she likes to call, “well rounded” and she grew up as an individual, in a way that only someone raised by two incredibly free spirits can. From a very young age, Quin was encouraged to make her own decisions and form her own opinions, so she’s very comfortable functioning in that capacity. Because of her parents’ quirky natures, she also learned early on that sometimes people who are different get judged harshly. Instead of holding this against people, she worked to blend in…not out of a sense of social necessity, but because it made sense. Her parents encouraged that activity, so Quin learned how to fit in without being what she would call a ‘sheep’. She will sometimes drop random astrological information into otherwise completely intellectual situations, and sometimes the hippy in her is very evident. Quin’s parents were both teachers, so their free-spiritness ended with education and she was expected to work hard in school and get good grades, which she did. This taught her responsibility and work-ethic, and she very highly values those skills today.
Elementary and middle school were pleasant experiences for Quin and because of her naturally sunny disposition she was generally well liked by her peers. Her grades were good, and her mind was as quick as her temper, which sometimes got her into trouble if a person was persistent enough to set her off.
Quin’s powers manifested while she was in high school, as she was studying for a particularly difficult upcoming test. Her eraser melted, a very simple manifestation that Quin played with for some time that night before going to show her parents. There was no worry, no self-loathing, and no drama. Her parents took her to a local restaurant famous for its alternate vegan menu to celebrate. Quin ‘came out’ at school the next week, and was tolerated fairly well. The school didn’t change because she was a mutant, the jerks were still jerks and her friends were still her friends…even if they were a little shocked at her powers. Of course, it helped that they were so seemingly innocuous and harmless. Besides…everyone liked the novelty erasers and lego sculptures that Quin was eventually able to make.
College was more of the same. Lured to criminal justice because of the things she’d seen on the news about New York and the direction mutant relations were taking, Quin flourished. Time passed, and the redhead started to seriously resent the masked and costumed vigilantes that seemed to be in the middle of everything in the larger cities, isolating themselves into para military groups instead of lending their powers to the police forces that already existed. This made after graduation planning easy and as soon as she had her degree, Quin headed for New York.
Rookies in the NYPD have to work two years as a beat cop before being able to apply for apprentice detective work with a specific department. Quin put in her time, carefully separating the person she was at work from the person she was off the clock and she kept her nose clean while she was at it. For the first time she met people who hated her simply for what she was, but her upbringing and confident nature quickly asserted themselves to help her through the rough times.
Quin is currently still working the beat and waiting to see what becomes of the apprentice detective applications she put in to several departments.

Sample RP:
Quin was absolutely flabbergasted as the radio in her squad car crackled to life for what had to be the millionth time this shift. Either it was a full moon, or there was a Mars conjunction in the southern node. People were nuts. Petty misdemeanors, traffic conflicts, domestic calls, and fist fights were the order of the night and it was one of the times that Quin silently longed for the quiet weekend nights she’d left behind in Indiana. She didn’t voice her thoughts though. Her partner on the beat was a long time veteran who didn’t take kindly to her ‘star mumbo-jumbo’ or ‘farm-girl nonsense’. Quin loved the guy, and grinned over at him in the driver’s seat.
”What are you grinning about? The whole city is coming unglued and you’re sitting over there grinning like a kid in a candy shop.”
Quin kept right on smiling, had she mentioned that Officer Kline was from the Bronx? It would have been strange if she hadn’t been smiling. “I dunno, I guess I just love my job.” She said with a simple shrug of her shoulders, her vest dug into the sides of her chest as she moved, and Officer Archer screwed up her face in mild concentration for a moment, instructing the Kevlar and plastic to fit a little more specifically to her body, so it didn’t poke her when she moved. The polymers, of course, obeyed and she shifted, smiling even more widely.
”Yeah…keep grinning kid. You’re running this perp down.” Kline said gruffly, reaching forward to flip the switch on the dash that made the lights and siren scream to life.
“With pleasure boss.” The redhead said, all thoughts of sedate Midwestern weekends far from her mind now that they were on the job.
