Character
Personality: Elise is a perfectionist and it shows. Her hair and clothing, although casual in appearance, are always tweaked into what appears to be careless perfection. The same can be said of her room, homework, make-up, music, drawings, and anything else she does. Her posture is impeccable and she only ever unwinds when she is perfectly relaxed or when she is sitting in a very uncomfortable chair for extended periods of time.
Anything is possible if you try hard enough is her motto, and she follows it with a vengeance. Manners are very important to Elise and she is easily annoyed by small discrepancies in the manners of others. She views excessive use of vulgar words as a sign of a lack of vocabulary. She also finds any form of discrimination to be highly offensive and crime that should be strongly punished by the law, which in turn makes her someone that will stand up for what she believes in, no matter how controversial the topic.
Elise almost always appears to have a smile on her face and a laugh around the next corner. A great lover of dirty jokes, innuendo, and lively stories, she will laugh at almost anything that is even moderately funny. She believes in being a shoulder to cry on, even if strong emotional displays other than happiness make her extremely uncomfortable. Elise is very reserved about showing her own emotions to others and will consequently , often times let them build until she almost bursts with them.
Hobbies/ Interests: Elise loves music. It is her passion and her greatest happiness. She is a fan of any form of music and plays multiple instruments including the violin, guitar, and piano. She also loves Shakespeare and Wilde. Elise doesn’t think there is ever a bad time to dance and will do so if the mood strikes her. She also enjoys looking at and making art. Elise has a secret passion for making deserts. She likes to see the smiles they bring to others' faces.
Job or part time job and description: She helps out at her mom’s dance studio by teaching the smaller children the basics. She also teaches music lessons.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Elise is terrified she will make someone feel something towards her without meaning to, that someone will fall in love with her or become friends with her because of her powers not because of whom she is as a person. Although actually impossible with her powers, due to the fact that they build off existing emotions, the idea still plagues her mind constantly, especially when she is meeting new people. Elise is also terrified of being unable to stand up for her self. She oftentimes wakes up with nightmares of being dragged away to a mutant camp or being unable to help someone else because her voice has suddenly disappeared.
Special talents: Elise was trained as a dancer from a very young age and is still very capable. Her desert crêpes have been described as heavenly.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good but hanging on the edge. With the appearance of her powers, Katy's whole life has been thrown out of sync. Her plans and dreams have disappeared and although she always tries to do the right thing, she is in a position where she could be convinced that almost any direction is the right direction.
Mutations
Mutation description: Elise can manipulate other's emotions through music, be it singing or instrumental, and in turn has an exceptional ability in all forms of music. Everyone that can hear the music is affected in varying degrees depending on the volume of the music they hear. The louder the music, the greater the effect it has on the listener. Elise's mutation is directly linked with the sound of the music. If someone were to be wearing earplugs and couldn't hear the music, they would not be affected, even if they were standing right next to Elise while she was singing. Empaths and the deaf are not affected by Elise's mutation.
Elise manipulates others emotions by playing a song, and the emotional reaction a listener has to a song is amplified greatly. Once more, the greater the volume of the song is for the listener, the greater the amplification. A whisper of a song still has an effect, but the reaction listeners have is less than that they'd elicit from a song at greater volumes.
Usually, a sad song emits a sad reaction, a happy song a joyful reaction, a lullaby, mental exhaustion, and so on and so forth. However, if a listener associates a happy song with a sad occasion, so to speak, and therefore, that happy song creates a sad emotion within the listener, the sad emotion will be amplified, not one of happiness or joy. Reactions also vary strongly from listener to listener, due to the large differentiation of habits and histories
Elise can increase the power of her manipulation by the very power of her emotion. If she is highly emotionally invested in a song, the emotional voltage of that song will be increased. The affect of a near silent song will go from a tingling or unconscious change of mood to a complete tune-in on the song and the emotion is brought to the fore front of the listener's mind. The reaction of one who was standing right next to Elise would rise from a rapture of the song and an experience within the strongest levels of that emotions, to a trance that nearly removes the listeners ability to do anything but experience the song and the emotion it elicits.
The more Elise is invested in a song emotionally, the more her emotions with effect those of her listeners. At the weakest emotional link, her emotion won't affect the listener at all. At it's strongest, Elise's emotion will stain her listeners to the point where her listener's emotions are more building blocks to Elise's own emotions. However, the stronger the listener's emotions are toward a particular song is, the harder it is for Elise's emotions to stain that listener's emotions. Even with an increase in emotion, Elise's range remains the same, affecting only those that can hear the music.
Like all emotions, those that Elise stirs linger afterwards, because they are built off of real emotions. The stronger the emotion, the longer Elise's manipulation will affect the listener. The same can be said for Elise herself. The more emotionally invested she is in a song, the more emotionally draining it is for her to perform it. At her strongest, she may finish the song in tears herself or be so exhausted from the emotional roller coaster, that it would be hard for her to move or think very quickly afterwards. The less emotionally attached she is to a song, the less her usage of her mutation will affect her other than through the constraints of normal musical performance.
Elise's range will always be everyone that can hear, and their number has no affect on how draining it is for Elise to use her mutation. She cannot, however, focus solely on one individual, unless that individual is the only one within hearing distance. Otherwise, anyone that hears will be affected, no matter whether Elise wishes to manipulate their emotions or not. Also, a recording of Elise playing a song will not emotionally manipulate others. Only if the sound comes form Elise herself or an instrument she is playing at the time, i.e. a direct continuation from her of the sound, will Elise's music have any affect on others.
Strengths: Her emotional manipulation only occurs when Elise is playing music. The number of people affected has no correlation to the level of effort it takes Elise to use her mutation. If strongly emotionally invested in a song, Elise can “stain” the audience’s emotions with her own and entrance them with her music. There is a lingering emotion left in the audience when Elise stops playing her music.
Weaknesses: Elise’s manipulation always occurs when she plays music. The emotions she enhances in the listener are the listener’s own, unless she is so invested in the song herself, that her own emotions stain their emotions. Elise cannot solely affect one listener. Everyone that hears her song is affected. The more emotionally invested she is in a song, the more emotionally taxing it is for her to perform that song.
Secondary mutation description: (if applicable) This mutation should be linked or make sense with your first mutation. You don't need a second mutation, but you can develop one later on with moderator approval. Strengths: Weaknesses:
Fighting Style
Explanation: Elise doesn’t have much a fighting style. Her first instinct would probably be to run away, but if cornered, she can throw a good punch, thanks to her brother and the many fights they got into when they were younger. She is also a biter and scratcher. If worse came to worse, however, she might try to sing her assailant to sleep.
Pros for fighting style: Not many, but she might get lucky with her random flailing. She is also rather fit and can run rather quickly if it comes down to it. If her assailant doesn’t know her power, he/she might actually fall asleep.
Cons for fighting style: Absolutely no real training, and anyone with any kind of training or experience greater than hers could probably take her out easily.

History Of Your Character Elise’s childhood, although not normal, was a good one. With her father being a professor at Juliard and her mother a ballroom dance teacher, Elise’s childhood was filled with the arts. From a very young age she and her older brother Alex were taught music and dance, and were always helped with school if they were ever confused by a subject. Her father was great believer in the importance of a general education. Expectations were, however very high, and Elise often-times would find herself at a much higher level of stress than most of the other children her age. This developed into her streak of perfectionism, and the only thing that could ever take her away from that would be Alex.
Her elder by two years, Alex, was the reason Elise never fully snapped from stress. With an uncanny ability to brush aside expectations and confront things in his own way, Alex was her role model, her dearest friend, and greatest competitor. Often known for their childhood quarrels but strong protective instincts of one for the other, the two siblings were famous in their apartment building who’s occupants were mostly older couples. Both moved on to become very skilled dancers and musicians, but Elise was the only one of the two to develop a mutation.
Like most mutants, her abilities began to appear when she reached puberty. When she was twelve the only sign of her mutation, was the surprising increase of her musical abilities, especially that of her voice. It was not until she was fourteen, that her mutation developed into its more dominant form. She was in her High School choir class and trying out for the female solo of a song. The boy she had a massive crush on was the male solo of the choir version of Sixteen Going on Seventeen from the Sound of Music. To say the least, Elise’s nerves and made the song one that the choir teacher never forgot. She sang it beautifully and at the very end, her male counterpart literally swept her off her feet in a passionate kiss. No one could have been more surprised than the boy himself. Both teenagers ran from the room shortly afterwards in shock and embarrassment. The boy removed his bid for lead as did Elise. Everyone put it off as hormones gone wild, but Elise and the boy were both thoroughly freaked out.
Similar emotional reactions began to occur every time Elise played any music. Her music instructors were the worst hit, often times leaving the sessions feeling as though they had just gone through a thorough emotional wringing. Elise quickly began to put two and two together, and dropped her musical instructors before they grew too suspicious. Most believed they were having emotional break downs from stress. Luckily for Elise, her mutation was not obvious and she went through the Mutant Registration Act untouched except for the murdering of her dream of becoming a professional musician. What musician would be welcomed when every time they sang their audience would collapse in emotional chaos?
With the loss of the driving instrument behind most of her life, Elise lost her focus and completely stopped performing in front of others. Her parents put it off as childhood depression and signed her up for therapy. Elise of course could say nothing of the reasons behind her change of lifestyle, and the therapy was useless except in making Katy a much better liar than she was before. The therapy ended, and Elise made her parents believe she changed her focus from music to dance and that was all. Although, she still practiced all her instruments daily, her music was rarely heard by the household members, because she always played when no one was home to hear. Her brother, however, realized something was wrong, and eventually coaxed her into telling him the truth. Ever since then, he has tried to convince her to go to the all mutant school every one knows exists. She is slowly beginning to listen to him.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Google Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: No Sample RP: The choir room was quiet. A creepy silence if one considered how loud the room usually was. If Mrs. Barnshaw wasn’t yelling for the students’ attention, the students were singing or yelling themselves. Pieces of music usually echoed into the room from the band and orchestra classes nearby, and at the very least, the gentle murmurs of music from ipod headphones could always be heard. For the first time in fifteen years, the choir room was completely silent except for one breathy gasp that echoed throughout the room.
Elise stared upwards, because somehow her position had changed from vertical to an angle approaching horizontal. Were those hands on her back and neck? When had Josh’s face come so close? Had she fainted? Elise had never fainted before, but she was almost certain this was not how it went. What the hell was going on? Why was Josh’s face getting closer? Why in god’s name were his heart-wrenching brown eyes closed?
She could feel the stirrings of panic at the unknown beginning to sink in, when suddenly she felt Josh’s beautiful, soft lips touch her own, and all her questions were obliterated from her mind. She stopped thinking, and just felt. Oh, it was nice. Elise felt like she could do it for ever, and apparently Josh was thinking the same, because he didn’t stop. Everything was a bit of a haze until a sharp clap echoed through the room.
“Josh! Elise! What are you doing?” came Mrs. Bradshaw’s shrill voice, sounding confused and muddled.
Elise’s eyes flew open, and Josh jerked. He let go of her and straightened, his surprise obvious to everyone present. His eyes were wide and his hand flew to his mouth. He looked like a deer caught in a car’s headlights until the sound of Elise hitting the ground caught his attention. He stared at her, clearly unsure what to say before he bolted from the room.
The class erupted into chaos afterwards, and Elise felt sick. What had just happened? Yeah, she had wanted, no, been dying, for Josh to kiss her for what seemed like years, but it wasn’t supposed to happen like this. Not in front of the entire class when they were auditioning for the solos in the choir’s version of Sixteen Going on Seventeen. Not in front of Mrs. Bradshaw. Not in a way that meant he would run away afterwards.
Elise could feel her classmates’ eyes on her, and she could hear Mrs. Bradshaw trying to keep some control over the teenagers. Elise stood, feeling weak and wobbly, and exhausted, like she did after a hard test. She heard a couple wolf-whistles over the crowd, and it did her in. She made for the door and decided Josh had the right idea all along. It was better to run away rather than face the questions that had no answers.
