IndividualCharacter's full name: Davi Jaguaribe
Alias/ Nickname/ Code name: Travis Silveria(
Alias)
Gender:Male
Age: 19
Birthday: September 21st, 1990
Nationality/ Ethnicity: Pardo
Birthplace/ Home/ Place of origin: Amazonas, Brazil
AppearanceHair color and style:His hair is dark brown, so close to black that it's hard to tell it's not in any but the brightest light, but the style can vary wildly. Currently it's a somewhat long and rather wild, curly and very slightly frizzed up due to being left to its own devices for some time. It's only somewhat longer than average for a male, at about four to five inches in total length, largely bunched up atop his head in the curls. The texture is surprisingly fine, considering his racial heritage, and when cut short doesn't show its curly nature. A fair amount of scruff is present around his jawline, and around his chin and mouth, the remains of what he usually keeps trimmed, when he bothers to actually manage his facial hair, can be seen.
Eyes:Dark amber, with a ring of brown surrounding the outer iris.
Height:5'9"
Build:Mesomorph. His bone structure is strong, with wide shoulders, and legs just a slight bit longer than usual proportion would indicate. He's currently overweight, a layer of fat smoothing over the toning of years-developed musculature and giving his body a little bit of curvature especially around the belly.
Visible mutation: Outside of medical scanning, his mutation would be completely invisible to human eye. The right kinds of imaging would show an enlarged heart and somewhat engorged blood vessels, indicating his powerful circulatory system. This, on its own, wouldn't likely be enough to identify him as a mutant, however, likely just a medical curiosity.
Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings: He has some scarring on his back, but it's faint, and almost seems like he has been whipped or lashed in some way. A few small scars are present on his hands, knees, and elbows, consequences of his work at a young age.
Other features:With a mixed racial heritage, Davi has a bit of an odd look to him that leaves many confused to his ethnicity. His skin is a rich, dark caramel, darker than expected for one from South America, but still far lighter than one might think for African heritage. That, however, combined with his accent, often has him mistaken simply for 'Mexican', or occasionally 'Cuban'.
Everyday clothing style: Being born in a tropical place and now living in an area as comparatively cool as New York leads him usually wearing warmer clothing than others around him. During the spring and fall months, he's usually wearing a somewhat tattered, weighty green hoodie and a pair of faded, worn jeans. An old, beat up and stained pair of sneakers are what's on his feet. Always tucked beneath that hoodie, clipped to the hem of his pants and actually within them to make it harder to steal, is a very high quality, large storage, MP3 player, one of his two most expensive possessions. The other is actually plugged into the MP3 player, a set of several hundred dollar, noise-canceling ear buds with powerful sound quality.
Uniform: Not Applicable
Sleepwear: Being from such a different climate, even warm nights usually see Davi wearing pajamas, thinner in the summer, and thicker in the winter. The warmest nights will see him in pants, but forgoing a pajama shirt, or at the very least a pair of boxers.
Miscellaneous clothing: The only clothing in his wardrobe that isn't old, beaten up, or threadbare are his clothing for work. In an attempt to make their employees look more 'professional' on the rare occasion they speak with clients face to face, they require slacks, polo shirts, and ties. He has a few pieces of clothing for work wear, most of them being dark colors in black to navy as it compliments his skin quite well and is easy to keep looking clean. He has a second, nicer, navy blue hoodie that is worn to work, it's a bit less baggy, and more 'professional' looking. Also in his wardrobe is a black-and-blue windbreaker and a charcoal gray winter coat.
CharacterPersonality: Davi's personality is a bit of a duality, thanks to his mutation. Depending on where it lies at any given time, he can be extremely high energy or extremely low energy. At his highest, he's hotheaded and impulsive, doing actions without thought for consequence and reacting at the drop of the hat. He can hardly sit still, is easily motivated, and extremely active. In contrast, at his lowest, he's easy going and downright thoughtful, considering his actions almost to the point he hardly even does anything. These periods are marked by laziness and lack of motivation, lethargy and long sedentary stretches. Most of the time, however, he's somewhere in between these extremes.
Hobbies/ Interests:In one word, 'music'. Davi adores music of virtually all forms, listening to whatever mood takes him at any given time. The only thing he usually prefers to avoid is music with racial slurs or outright hate lyrics, anything else is fair game. When alone he can often be heard singing, rapping, and generally vocalizing along with even instrumental music, and keeping beat with his fingers or feet. His other hobby is the martial art capoeira, though he hasn't practiced since he left Florida, though he has taken to personal dancing in his own apartment, occasionally.
Job or part time job and description: Currently he works for a small, independent insurance company that serves the Bronx. His job, most specifically, is working with clients who communicate better in Spanish than English, to make sure that those minorities have a place to go for insurance work. Most of his work is done over the phone, at the office.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Davi's biggest fear is, of course, having his major secret discovered. Unlike some mutants, that secret is not that he is one, but the fact that he's an illegal US immigrant, and that 'Travis Silveria' is a stolen identity. He doesn't want to be deported back to Brazil, much as he may wish to see his parents again; even if he was deported, he likely wouldn't be able to find them and his life is currently better off in the United States.
Special talents: He possesses a strong sense of rhythm and a fine singing voice that would likely lead to a passable musical career if he wasn't trying hard to lay low. Beyond that, he's very adept in the Brazilian martial art of capoeira, which is related to his musical abilities. Atop this, he's fluent in Portuguese, and passable in the Mexican dialect of Spanish as well as English.
MoralityGood/ bad/ neutral/ other: Neutral and somewhat conflicted. As a largely honorable and honest person, the fact that so much of his life is a lie that he must upkeep for his own good bothers him some. There is nothing, however, he can do about that fact, and the consequences of letting slip or trying to fix things legally are too dire. As such he could be considered a bit 'chaotic', as he's flying in the face of several laws for his benefit.
MutationsMutation description: Metabolic control. It's sometimes known that regular humans show the ability to have minor control over their metabolism, but it's usually a dietary thing, and not at all common. Davi, on the other hand, has the ability to command it at will, and with no delay, simply increasing or decreasing his metabolism either in a snap, or over a short time. Strengths and Weaknesses vary from high state metabolism(fast energy burn) to low state metabolism(slow energy burn), and will be notated as such. While, upon learning of the truth of his existence and abilities, he'll be able to command these things consciously, they are at current a subconscious thing, triggered by certain stimuli. High metabolic state can be triggered by a burst of adrenaline through fear, through a sugar rush, or by consistent exercise, where a low metabolic state can be triggered by exhaustion, lack of food, or sedentary periods. The limits of strength and duration of these periods of time are detailed in strengths and weaknesses.
Strengths: High:A high metabolic state arguably can give Davi the greatest advantages, and in a combat situation that's certainly true. With a strong increase in metabolism, his speed can increase rapidly, beyond even that of an adrenaline-enhanced human. Added to this, the increased friction and motion within him raises his body temperature a great deal, making it difficult for him to freeze to death, so long as adequate fuel is present. This also allows him to slough off excess fat and unhealthy body weight quickly.
Low:On the flip side, a low metabolic state increases Davi's non-combat survivability in a number of ways. The slower he metabolizes, the more efficient he metabolizes, allowing him to subsist on less food and to store excess energy in fat deposits. Starvation will be difficult when he is capable of utilizing every part of a meal, especially when that meal needn't be particularly large. His body temperature is also lowered, due to less going on inside of him, which means that in an extremely hot climate, he'll fare better by being further off 'lethal' brain heat.
Weaknesses: High:A high state, however, isn't an infallible 'good thing'. It has its disadvantages. The increase in temperature puts him significantly closer to dangerous, damaging brain temperatures, meaning a sustained high state in a hot climate or location could be dangerous, or even fatal if he forces any physical 'failsafe' attempts away. Perhaps the largest drawback is, of course, the fact that energy isn't created out of nothing; he needs a spectacular amount of food to sustain high metabolic states. An overactive high state at the wrong time could easily drop him into a state similar to a hypoglycemic blood sugar crash, or worse.
Low: In a low metabolic state, there are a few disadvantages as well, though they are a bit less prominent than high state disadvantages. The lowering of metabolism causes a lowering in body temperature which, of course, would be very bad in a cold area as it places him closer to hypothermia. By retaining the vast majority of meals, it also means he retains weight and a variety of other things that are unhealthy to build up. While this is balanced by the ability to return to 'health' quickly through the use of a high metabolic state and significant amounts of food, a long period of low metabolism could cause irreversible damage in the form of various health problems.
Secondary mutation description: None at current, ideas are present for later.
Strengths:Weaknesses:Fighting StyleExplanation:In a fight, Davi brings forth the speed of a high metabolic state, alongside his training in capoeira. Flexibility and fast movements are key, along with swift dodges, flips, kicks, sweeps, take downs, and constant movement. Rhythmic actions are key, set to a beat that in true combat outside of a roda, only he can hear. Leg strikes are common, and he's known to go into the complete inversions often seen in the martial art he's trained in.
Pros for fighting style: The sheer speed he moves at makes retaliation difficult, at best, and impossible at worst. With an art already known for its speed of attack, compounded with metabolic boosts and an adrenaline rush his movements are absolutely unnaturally fast, making it difficult for any but a speed-enhanced mutant to fight back against him. With his training to keep his eyes on his opponent at all times, even during inversions, flips, and headstands, it will also be a bit hard for someone to catch him off guard to land a strike. Many of his attacks have intermediary locations where they can be changed from an attack to a dodge, which also aids in continuous movement, as well as dodging having been trained right alongside striking in his learning.
Cons for fighting style: One of the biggest cons of how he fights is that it is very flashy, with big, fast motions being made. By extension, this means that these full body maneuvers take up a lot of energy, something Davi doesn't have in large reserves when already in a high metabolic, energy hungry state. While his movements are fast, strong, dangerous, and evasive, he cannot keep up these movements for long periods of time. If someone can evade long enough to tire him out, which isn't that long in the scheme of things, then they can almost certainly win. His fighting style also has the disadvantage of the highly rhythmic component. While a smaller disadvantage, someone acting deliberately outside of his rhythm has a possibility of throwing him off, causing imbalance and counterattack opportunities. Finally, his fighting style really isn't as effective against anyone who is capable of getting and staying away from him; he has no ranged abilities. If an opponent's mutation allows them to stay back and hurl energy/elemental/material items at him, he has little to do but dodge and attempt to get close enough to strike, which uses up valuable energy. Also, capoeira never put much emphasis on blocking, preferring the 'dodging' aspect, leaving him less able to take a punch, and more likely to do something rather flashy to dodge.

History Of Your CharacterDavi was born in a logging camp in the Amazon basin, within the Amazonas state of North Western Brazil. His early childhood is a bit of a blur, marked by small distinctions, most of which being the mastery of new techniques of the martial art he began learning at a small age. He recalls often being sent to give water to the loggers, his constant energy a certain advantage, even if it did occasionally end up with him overheating and occasionally collapsing. This, combined with him not really remembering ever going anywhere but the camp, nor ever having new things of his own, has made him vaguely realize what may have been going on.
In absolute truth, the logging camp he was born at was an illegal operation, cutting down parts of the Amazon forest for illegal sale and powering itself with unpaid labor. Quite literally a slave powered operation, of which Davi's parents had been abducted for together. His father had been offered a job there, which he had initially accepted, but when he and his wife went to officially decline the job, they were kidnapped and brought to the camp, where they were forced to work, each in their own way.
When the Brazilian authorities came across the camp, Davi was about ten years old and didn't really understand what was going. The bosses were arrested and what enslaved workers still lived after the worst of the punishments and the general disregard for human needs were given a grant from the government, to help them get their lives back in line and start over. That sizable grant allowed the Jaguaribe family to pick up and rush for a new beginning, heading for the United States his parents hoping to give their young son the best life possible.
Unfortunately, that grant didn't allow them enough money to make the trip legally, but their rush to get away from Brazil after the last horrible fourteen years of their lives had them doing so anyway. They settled, illegally, in Florida amongst a group of Cuban immigrants, obtaining jobs and working to quickly get their son taught English, and to pay back the one who had helped them cross into the United States.
It was a slight surprise to them when they did get properly settled, and got Davi enrolled in both a local capoeira class and in school itself. He excelled in both, even having some moves from his home country to teach to the instructors, and making a fair number of friends and doing passably, if not perfectly, in his classes. Music, arts, and physical education were where he excelled best, while he did the worst, understandably, in English and American History.
Life was going well until the summer between his tenth and eleventh grades, at age 16, where everything went terribly, horribly wrong. He was out with friends, playing a few games of basketball with them, when one of his friends' phones went off. It was a text from his mother, saying they'd seen police arresting Davi's parents; the secret was out, about the legality of his family in the country. In a whirlwind of action and strength of the ties he'd had, he was out of Florida within two days, with little more than the clothes on his back, the CD player he'd had with him, and enough money to hopefully get himself safely somewhere else.
Working a few odd jobs and mostly living on the streets, he eventually managed to get the cash together to buy himself a new identity, and all the paperwork to go with it. The Victim? A young man named Travis Silveria. Three years older than Davi, a Mexican-American immigrant who'd found himself in the wrong part of town at just the wrong time in south Texas, he was mown down in a drive by he had nothing to do with. As it wasn't a hate crime, nor was he the target, his death earned no press outside of his home city, making his identity the perfect candidate for Davi's use. Jobs look no further than making sure that Travis' record was clean, which it is, and as a bonus Davi's now 'old enough' to buy alcohol if he wishes.
He continued his migration north with his new identity, eventually ending up in the Bronx where he's lived for the past year and a half. His job at American Direct Insurance has lasted that long, which is partly why he chose to stay in such a chilly place. Most of his money now goes to his passion for music, of course, and he doesn't have much drive to look for anything bigger; bigger is conspicuous, and conspicuous means his record is more likely to get checked.
Over the past several years, his lack of drive in life and his way of living under the radar as best he can has left him in a mild low metabolic state. As such he's put on a bit of weight and is generally slow moving and unmotivated.
RoleplayWhere did you learn about this site?:Ilari Starkova's player is a friend of mine and was talking about it, so I asked for a link to do a little personal research about the place and I decided I wanted to come join.
Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: No.
Sample RP:"Yes, yes, I know. Early shift tomorrow, eight AM. I've got it, boss," rang out the richly accented voice of the dark skinned young man. A mostly blue windbreaker was pulled on over the long sleeved, button up work shirt, and a pair of ear buds carefully worked into his ears beneath the crinkly material, then plugged into a music player clipped to the inside of his pants. Without another word, the music was turned on, rich and deep, bass pounding to his ears and guitar ripping forth, drawing a smile in the midst of his unkempt facial hair. The quality of the headphones left little sound leaking free, and the patter of rain on his hood drowned it out, leaving it impossible to tell that he was listening to music.
With that he simply stuffed his hands in his pockets and started down the street, walking in time with the beat without even thinking about it. Anything that passed him wasn't even noticed, past the music in his headphones and he probably cut an interesting sight down the lesser-privileged streets of the Bronx, looking so nicely dressed. But today, as every other day, his couple of mile walk home passed without incident, and he grabbed his mail and let himself into his house quietly. His MP3 player and headphones were set down with his keys and wallet, and he moved to dig through the mail, quirking a brow and then outright grinning at a small, mostly flat package in there. It's set down atop his stereo as he wanders to get changed into a set of beat up, utterly comfortable pajamas to lounge around in.
Departing his room and heading for his stereo, a nice expensive looking thing that is certainly the center point of his shoddy apartment, he picked up the package and opened it, grinning to the CD inside. The CD was placed in the player as Davi pulled out the piece of paper, reading it out loud to himself quietly.
"Travis, I hope this reaches you right. You seemed like a really cool guy at the concert last month, and as promised here is a CD of some of my newer work. It's a little unrefined, but I hope to get some feedback from you. For someone outside of the music business, and with no real formal education, you have an amazing mind for music. Here's hoping I got the address right. The way these Americans do mailing addresses is very odd. Hoping to hear back from you, Dari un Das."
With his first real laugh in days, Davi set aside the note and grabbed an even nicer set of non-ear bud headphones, plugging them in and pulling them on to give the sample CD a listen. This time the thick thunder of techno music filled the air around him, even through the headphones, and very soon the young man was dancing along, motioning through the air as he did, eyes closed.
