The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

As he was about to shake his hand he watched his girlfriend stumble into the man and knocked him over. Trying hard not to laugh Sam held a smirk and nothing more as Alex got to her feet. Looking down at the rock Sam gave it a small kick before turning back to the pair that were saying their goodbyes. As Alex looked to him Sam gave her a small wink and then placed his hand on the small of her back, ”Was a nasty spill you had there, you alright?” twisted ankle, which was all Sam was the worst Sam assumed she could have gotten in the process.
Looking up Sam spotted the man and the woman walking away and he sighed, ”Didn’t even get to say good by to the guy properly.” he shrugged slightly and then looked back to Alex and then the van to people who were watching the little girl in particular. He waved to them and said, ”How about we get a move on sweetheart? Don’t want our friends getting antsy, besides the guy in back might lose the circulation in his hands before long.”
Letting out a whistling tune Sam walked back to his seat and hopped in the van, once Alex was in they were off and back on their path to the promise land for those seeking passage in the van. Instantly Sam was reminded of the song, “Magic Bus” by the who. Leaning forward Sam turned the radio on hoping he would get lucky and find the song, he however wasn’t so lucky seeing as news reports were making brief mention of the camps.
As soon as Sam heard the mention of Camp he turned off the radio station and clapped his hands, ”So anyone know any good jokes?”
Pacifica and Gabriel were off on their merry way. Thanks God. At least she wouldn’t have to worry about constantly having holes burned in the back of her head. Alexandra sighed, turning toward Sam, shrugging slightly at his comment. “Think he took the nasty fall.” She commented, glancing over her shoulder at the two departing Underground members. She half expected to see some steam coming out of Gabriel’s ears at some point. “Probably that’s why he was so mad when they left.” Again, she shrugged, and nodded when Sam suggested to move on. “Well, can’t say I feel really sorry for the guy in the back, honey, but I agree. Let’s go.” She replied with half a smirk. This game was rather entertaining.
Alexandra hopped back into the van and off they were in their search for freedom. Wondering what exactly Sam had in mind when he turned on the radio, she frowned at the mention of the camps. Not exactly what she wanted to hear and she assumed that the group in the back didn’t want to hear it either.
”So anyone know any good jokes?”
Shifting her attention from the road to Sam, Alexandra eyed the ice mancer with curiosity, and shook her head in response. “If no one knows any, you could be the radio and sing something.” She commented with a chuckle, blue eyes turning to focus the road once again.

Sam looked to Alex then to everyone else in the back of the van, solemn faces everywhere no smiles, he didn’t like that one bit. The only one who seemed to have a smile on their face was the old man who recognized the situation they were in and Sam’s efforts to try and liven the situation. ”You really want me to sing to make this a fun trip?” he laughed, ”If I did that people would be jumping out of the van when it hits top speeds.” he smiled to Alex and then asked, ”Your more of a singer than me, why don’t you do it?”
He looked at the road as their speed toward their destination grew less and less, contemplating if he should sing a song, most of the ones he knew weren’t the nicest for little girls to be listening to, not only that but he doubted he could sing perfectly without some instruments playing. Suddenly wishing he brought his harmonica or his Ipod… leaning forward and rummaging through the glove compartment Sam sighed and found nothing of use. Leaning back Sam closed his eyes and started hum. Within a minute Sam was comfortable and ready to speak the lyrics to the song he was thinking of.
After finishing the song he looked back to the little girl and smiled, ”Your to sing a song,” as she smiled and the consorted with her grandfather about what song they were going to sing Sam looked to Alex and asked, ”Next time, I am either bringing my harmonica or my Ipod… Anyways how many miles till we arrive?” Sam had a feeling it was going to be a long while before they would even be considered close to their destination.
”You really want me to sing to make this a fun trip? If I did that people would be jumping out of the van when it hits top speeds. Your more of a singer than me, why don’t you do it?”
Alexandra simply laughed. “I wasn’t aware that you were that bad of a singer.” She commented, eyes still on the road. Laugh ceasing, Alexandra kept a smile on her lips, glancing briefly at Sam. “And I’ll sing for you anytime honey… but I’m not sure I wanna embarrass myself in front of all these people.” She commented, switching from the Romanian they have used until now to English so only Sam would understand her. Hopefully, none of the people in the back knew much English and if they did they weren’t paying that much attention to the conversation going on between Sam and her.
As Sam started to hum a song, with his eyes closed, Alexandra focused her attention back to the road. Only when she realized what song Sam was humming, a devilish grin appeared on her face. When the song was over, and Sam asked her how much until they got there, she briefly glanced at one of the panels that indicated the remaining distance. “Well, about 343 kilometers. That would be…” She paused for a moment while doing the math. “213 miles. We should be there in about three hours.” Relaxing on the chair, Alexandra turned her head toward Sam, the devilish grin appearing once again. “So I’ll take it that you’ve learned quite a few night moves in your teens?” She asked with a chuckle, keeping her language option to English. Still chuckling Alexandra looked back to the road.

A small meek voice could be heard as it melded with the older raspy voice into a sweet harmony of some sort of lullaby that Sam recognized the melody to. He turned his head from Alex for a moment to smile to the young girl and the old man to give them a thumb up before turning back to Alex and continuing to talk in English. ”Three hours isn’t to bad...” suddenly feeling the urge to take a nap Sam snorted at Alex’s question, ”Now is this a legit question or a rhetorical one? Cause I’ve never been one to kiss and tell...” he paused ”Nope going to give you something to look forward to, I am a good teacher after all…”
----
Two and a half hours passed by and they approached the largest river in Europe. If he had time to sight see he would have been impressed however they didn’t have time to sit and watch so as soon as Alex had pulled over to the side road and took it some ways. Passing some old looking houses they approached a run down factory. There were still people living in the houses, which worried Sam all the more.
Sam was on edge, Alex knew where they were going but he didn’t every turn and building and or house could be a possible lookout for some mutant trackers. He frowned slightly at the factory they were approaching. This place could have been ideal for a sneak attack they were in the open and he didn’t like it at all. Looking to the side of the van he spotted the river and felt a sudden wave or relief come over him. There was tons of water both he and Alex could use if there was trouble. He was at his strongest when near water, even stronger when immersed with it. All he could think about was getting on some sort of boat.
The van pulled over to the side of the road and they all got out he looked to Alex with a anxious look on his face not sure what was going to happen next. ”What now?”
Alexandra fell silent, blushing once again. Blue eyes remained on the road although she did feel the urge to look at Sam. He was probably grinning at this point. She did bring it upon herself. Wasn’t she the one who brought the night moves into discussion? Suddenly she wished to melt into the chair.
~*~
Two and a half hours later, Alexandra finally stopped the car and got out, looking at the surrounding. They haven’t changed much since she visited this area the last time. Which was quite some time ago. On one side of the road, the ground started to elevate. 50 meters away, the ground formed a platform where several old fashioned houses stood. In some, the lights were turned on, occasionally a dark silhouette or two passing by. Others were dark. She assumed that people didn’t get home from work yet.
On the other side, an abandoned facility was spread across several hundred meters, surrounded by fences which made impossible to see what was inside. And yet, a few of the old building were tall enough to be visible. She glanced at Sam, noticing that he was worried. “I chose this place cause this part of the Danube because it’s hardly patrolled by boats. They keep their boats to patrol the harbor so we shouldn’t have any problems getting across.”
Sure, she suspected that Sam was worried about another kind of authority. But Alexandra doubted that they would even think of this place. Remembering Sam’s question, she gestured toward the abandoned factory. “Now we move. But first go get the guy in the back.”

He eyed the fences and his legs bent slightly ready for trouble if trouble made it’s self-known. His face however was a fake smile with raised eyebrows giving everyone in the vicinity the impression that he was happy. He knew Alex wouldn’t be fooled and when they continued to talk in English his expression of happiness grew with his unease. ”They weren’t patrolled then, now however the country is kind of gunning for anyone that resembles a mutant…” he paused and looked to one of the houses where a shadow moved from the window. ”Feel free to call me a worry wart after we get everyone to safety.”
Nodding his head he looked around and walked to the back of the van and opened the rear doors. Turning his tongue back to Romanian Sam spoke clear and in control his unease was no way reflected in his voice. ”Alright, your free at this point, I told you I’d take you to safety and I still fully intend to do that but I can’t carry you there, you have to walk on your own.” he reached to the rope and forced it to shatter where he touched leaving the rest of the rope to fall to the man’s side. ”let me remind you again, my girl Alex will do as she pleases to you if you plan on making things difficult for us.”
After flashing the man a quick grin Sam and the man who had caused problems for them joined the rest of the group. Slapping the troublemaker on the back Sam pointed to the young girl and her grandfather. ”Do what she says!” looking to the little girl Sam smiled to her and said, ”If he doesn’t do what you and your grandfather say tell the scary lady” with that he pointed at Circe then urged everyone to follow both him and her.
It took a few minutes but as they passed through the newly broken fence and the new hole in the war house wall Sam eyed their stallion that would bring these people their freedom. ”This?” Sam asked Alex in English slightly surprised that this pile of driftwood could be “Sea worthy”. Frowning slightly he formed two ice clones to stand by the ropes that anchored the ship to the docks, upon a close look it was clear they were garbed in ragged clothes made of ice.
”All aboard me matties! It’s the sea that we be aiming for!” Sam said as a few chunks of ice formed over his body. An ice figure formed onto his shoulder, a small parrot opened its wings mechanically and then closed them as Sam placed a hand on a buccaneers sword made of ice. He grinned when he got a laugh from a few of the people, the old man and young girl who was becoming fond of. Others just rolled their eyes, it was important in his opinion that he distracted everyone from what was going on around them. Turning to Alex he raised his ice sword, ”Ready for take off capin?”
“I dare to hope that we’ll be lucky.” Alexandra replied, eyes shifting to the houses, watching the occasional silhouettes that passed by the windows with a frown. Blue eyes traveled back to Sam, shrugging slightly before he left to untie the traitor in the back of the car. She didn’t have much to do while Sam did that. Absently, she locked the doors of the van and smiled briefly when she overheard Sam threatening the man that he’d leave him in her capable hands if he caused any troubles.
Shaking her head and wondering how was it that she had become so frightening, she checked the doors again before leaning on the van and looking at Sam just in time to hear the instructions he gave to the little girl. Tilting her head to the side, she grinned for a brief moment before pushing herself off the car. “Okay, let’s move.” Motioning the group to follow her to the fence, she placed a hand upon the metal. Under her command, molecules quickly moved out of the way, making room for the group to pass.
Shifting her eyes between the street and the houses, Alexandra waited for everyone to get inside the abandoned facility, including Sam before she passed trough the gap and closed it as soon as she was in. The warehouse, well, it was sort of tricky. Either you went trough it and reached the other side faster, or you went around it. It took a bit longer but it was safer. Personally, Alexandra would have chosen the ‘around’ option but she let Sam handle it. Which he did, by making a hole trough it. Alexandra sighed and while wondering what was it with men and their desire to destroy stuff, she leaded the group along with Sam to their mighty ride.
Yeah. Well. The boat looked like it would sink as soon as it advanced two meters in the water. Sam’s ‘This?’ didn’t make her feel better, either. She shot him a ‘What?’ look back. It was still better than freezing in a boat made of ice. Sam might have had the useful ability of not feeling the cold but she or the other members of the group didn’t. While Sam’s golems were dealing with untying the boat, her eyes loomed across the water. This much water made her nervous. And not to mention that they were about to float above it in a wreck.
Gulping down air and pushing aside the not so pleasant memories and her phobia of water, she glanced to Sam who was fooling around. She blinked a couple of times before stepping inside the boat with a grim face on and pretty much not appreciating Sam’s humor. Not that she could appreciate any humor when she was about to go sailing in a pile of woods above a running and not to mention perilous water. “Ready to go, Sam.” Alexandra replied grasping one of the boat’s edges until her knuckles turned white. “Use that magic mist of yours and let’s move already.” As the boat started to move, being rocked from side to side by the occasional waves, Alexandra was one step away from throwing herself on top of the person closest to her and hold on for dear life.
She closed her eyes tightly, teeth clenched while she slowly started to turn into a much paler version than the original. Taking deep breaths, Alexandra wished for something that would go faster. Much, much faster.

The sound of laughter could still be heard from a few of the passengers Alex however didn’t find it terribly funny, something was making her uneasy and in turn made him uneasy. Nodding his head upon her request Sam stepped towards the front of the boat and towards the controls and started the boat up. With a lurch the ship creaked and moaned as the ice golems on the dock shattered and fell into the water. She wanted magic mist the problem with the magic mist is it becomes easy to notice that it is being created. After all he only had his extension to a certain range. The other problem that it made visibility near impossible on the water not only for his enemies but for them as well. The last thing he wanted to do was run into an iceberg, no matter how ironically funny that would be.
”I’ll do what I can…” said Sam calmly as he made his ways past the controls towards the front of the ship. Standing on the deck Sam looked back and called out, ”Someone take the wheel, and keep us on a straight path." Walking to the front of the bow Sam took a step on the edge of the railing and raised his hands focusing on the water around the boat. At first it was hardly noticeable but within a minute the water started to rise and fog. The fog continued to raise and rise as the ice crystals rotated about in the air.
Now that the scenery around them became dense and white with fog Sam lowered one hand and then raised it quickly above his head focusing on the fog in front of them. The fog was no good after all if there was some sort of radar on another ship, not only that but they wouldn’t be able to see where they were going. So to make things far easier Sam decided to make their path clear. The fog directly in front of the ship became invisible as it started to fade and spread in other directions.
Shore in sight Sam lowered his hands and kept the mental focus on the fog around them. It was important that this end soon not only because he wanted to get them to safety but also because of the distraction it was to keep the fog, well fog. Turning to his head he looked to Alex and smiled, ”Are you alright?”
------
Captain Ahab looked out over the starboard side of his ship with such ferocity it bordered on the insane. Twenty men on his ship and none would cross the captain. They feared and respected him too much. In terms of hunting there was no better a captain the Ahab, ”Looks like we’ll be eating like kings tonight!” Ahab said as he pointed to the dense mist that started making it’s way towards them.
Going to read the radar he grinned as a small boat could be seen, ”Turn ship accordingly and get ready to round up some muties boys!” with that Ahab and his band of naval mutant hunters made there way to the small boat shrouded in mist.
Alexandra’s every sense was protesting against her decision. A floating wreck holding more people that it felt safe. And while the Danube wasn’t immensely deep, it was still… deep. And the damn boat creaked at every little wave. Long, deep breaths didn’t do much to help her. Alexandra kept her eyes closed, now both of her hands holding the edge of the boat tightly.
Sam’s words or the chatter around here were like echoes in her ears. God, when she and Sam got back, she’d prefer to fight off the authorities at the borders rather than using this wreck to cross over again. Alexandra opened her eyes for a brief moment. Dense fog covered the sides of the boat. She glanced down, watching the boat slicing trough water and fog. And she repented doing so. “Oh God.” She muttered as every muscle in her body tensed.
”Are you alright?”
Alexandra turned toward Sam, her face pale, blue eyes narrowed slightly. “No. Water phobia.” She explained before closing her eyes again. “Are we there yet? Should have been there already.” She complained, gulping down air while trying to tune out the cracking sounds the boat made or the sound of water splashing against it. Each sound sounded like a different set of drums being played near her ears. Alexandra frowned.
A different sound broke the ‘symphony’ of water splashes and the moans of their old boat. It was another set of drums being played near her ear. One that wasn’t there before. Blue eyes snapped open, her head turning toward Sam. “Sam, drop the mist now!” Then, with another swift turn she was looking at the group. “And all of you, get down!”

He frowned slightly when she told him she had a water phobia… it probably would have been a good idea on her part to mention this before they got on the boat, not only that but if she was truly that afraid of water then maybe it would have been a better idea not to take a boat. Stepping away from the bow Sam took a step towards Alex and then gave her a sympathetic look, ”We should if we were going full speed, the problem is with that my fog doesn’t cut down on the noise so if we kick the engines up to much we could give away our position, I just hope that none of the boats out their have radar or sonar…”
Just as he had said the words sonar he started to hear a whining noise the whining of a large motor which meant trouble for everyone in their ship and the one he was in. As Alex issued the command Sam stepped up to the railing again and focused on the fog. He didn’t do exactly what she had ordered, he didn’t get down but he did affect the fog around them. Instead of dropping it completely he only made it less dense so the sudden change of fog wouldn’t be too suspicious.
As everyone was doing as Alex had commanded Sam ran around to the controls of the ship and took control, kicking up the engine to a normal pace Sam continued on the path till the radio on deck chimed the voice of the captain of the large boat that was quickly approaching. ”We work with the patrol, drop anchor and bring everyone you have on deck, we need to make sure your human, if you fail to compile we have orders to shoot down your ship and take in everyone on board.”
He looked around to everyone and then nodded to the radio, ”Understood, dropping anchor now!” said Sam as he flipped a switch that dropped the anchor. Looking around to everyone after he turned off the radio Sam spoke up, ”Everyone stop hiding, get on deck those with visible mutations hide them the best you can… feeling the worried gazes of those on the ship Sam quickly added, ”I have an idea.”
Waiting for the ship to grow closer Sam grinned, almost right away he figured out where the engine was on the ship and then he noticed the boarding crew that was getting on a rowboat and then lowered into the water. As they made there approach Sam waited for them to approach their little dinghy.
Alexandra’s breaths became longer and deeper, eyes traveling to the water bellow her. This.was.so.not.the.time. She narrowed her eyes, as the sound of the engine filled her ears. Those mutants hunter had picked the worst moment of all to attack them. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched Sam concentrating on removing the fog… well, or at least that what she thought he was doing. A frown appeared on her face. “I thought I said to drop the damn fog…” She muttered, unhappy that Sam wasn’t listening… at all.
Air left her lungs. Blue eyes closed for a moment as the molecule manipulator straightened herself. When they opened again, the sky blue color in her irises was becoming darker and darker. She blinked, letting her senses slip past the molecules of water clogging the atmosphere. “All… take cover, now.” She turned her head briefly, looking at the four people that formed the group then to Sam, her stare changing to a rather defiant one. “Get the anchor back up.” She instructed before looking back at the boat.
She ignored those who were being lowered to the water on the rowboat. She ignored every human as a matter of fact. Her eyes traveled to where the metal was touching the water. She went past the molecules of water, past the paint that covered the metal. She aimed the metal itself. Alexandra mentally grinned as the molecules became submissive to her control. Under her command, a crazy waltz began, molecule by molecule picking its partner and dance away from the boat.
A hand moved away from the edge of the boat, motioning the molecules to her side. The dance stopped, instead a race began, each wanting to reach their goddess faster. Alexandra smirked. She wanted to see how the mutant hunters dealt with a hole in their ship. However, her attention was quickly grabbed by the rowboat. Wood… was too difficult to manipulate. Instead, she tilted her head to the side, instructing the metal she had obtained from the rival ship to gather in groups. Large metal spikes became visible in front of her, floating above the water. Alexandra forced the molecules closer and closer, until the size of the spikes became smaller.
At a flick of her finger, the spikes moved, their movement, a blur to human eye and they only became visible when the contact with the rowboat was made. Wood cracked under the pressure of the metal. Tips of the spikes reached the insides of the boat, metal expanding as the molecule manipulator released her hold on them. Water started to pour in through the holes created. “Sam…” She said, glancing at Sam over her shoulder for a second. Water rose up next to the row boat to form a wall. “Freeze them up, please.” Obedient, water molecules fell on top of the rowboat, flooding it much faster.

Irritation surfaced on Sam’s expression for a moment as Alex told everyone to do the exact opposite of what he had said. He had a plan and was ready to execute the plan once the time was right however Alex decided to come with a plan of her own. Those who had gathered on the deck dispersed into hiding spots as the anchor switch he had flipped turned in the opposite direction (something he had done without realizing it).
As he was about to counteract Alex’s order he watched her focus on the incoming ship and crew on the rowboat. It was a quickly executed plan on her part one that took Sam a few minutes to respond too. Watching her dismantle both boats Sam blinked as she called out to him asking for his assistance, ”What? No Encore?” he asked as he focused on the water that was elevated from the water surrounding it.
”Fair enough, but we are coming back to free them once we drop everyone off…” the water’s make up started to compact and slow under Sam’s will till it was frozen over. Following it up the water around the rowboat and the larger ship froze as well, both those in the rowboat and the larger ship would find it quite difficult if not impossible to trail them now.
Focusing back on the ship Sam flipped a few switches and the boat started to speed up creating a wake from the water that they tried to make calm before. ”So,” Sam asked in English, ”Care to explain?” water phobia he hopped was the explanation behind it, it would be he thought the best reasoning behind it.
He didn’t know exactly how long the rest of the trip across the river took but he didn’t think it was that long then again with the lack of sleep he had been having his internal clock seemed to be all screwy. ”Land Ho! Sam called out to the people as the shore was coming into view, ”Everyone on deck!” Sam called out as the dingy got closer to shore.
Alexandra did her best to ignore Sam’s irritation for disobeying his plan and his orders. Oh well… he’ll get over it. As soon as he took over, Alexandra let herself slide down and close her eyes.
”Fair enough, but we are coming back to free them once we drop everyone off…”
Blue eyes opened lazily. Right. “Don’t count on me.” Alexandra muttered under her breath with a roll of her eyes. Perhaps she needed to enlighten Sam on the reasons why she wasn’t doing it?
Reason number 1: She wasn’t getting back in this wreck again. Reason number 2: She wasn’t helping those who just tried to hunt them down. Reason number 3: Patrols would probably find them and rescue them.
Maybe she would just share reason number 3 with Sam, later? Yeah. Most likely it was enough to convince him that he didn’t need to bother to come back and get them. With a sigh, she closed her eyes again.
”So… Care to explain?”
Blue eyes opened slowly. “Explain… what?” And seriously now. Explain what? That she saved a couple of mutants? Explain that she didn’t listen to him? Explain that she dropped the sugar coating and didn’t play nice with a couple of mutant hunters? She’d be damned if she apologized for that.
“Land Ho! Everyone on deck!”
While everyone listened to Sam and gathered next to him as the shore approached, Alexandra planned to remain seated until the boat stopped. Hugging her knees, she looked at the approaching land letting out the air leave her lungs slowly. Land… finally.

It took them a few hours but once they made sure the refugees they were helping both Alex and Sam made it back to his hotel room with out much trouble after everyone made it across the border. The trip home had been rather quite he suspected it had something to do with the way he went back and pulled the men out of the ice after both he and Alex put them there. They were luckily to cold to put up much of a fight so once he unfroze them he quickly departed back with Alex to their five star hotel.
”So… your afraid of water?” Sam asked trying to start a conversation. He wasn’t really in the mood much for one earlier due to the situation they were in so anything that he would have said was a ‘yea’ or a ‘this way’ but once they entered his hotel room all bets were off.
Walking over to his bed and hopping onto the soft mattress Sam let out a sigh and plopped off his boots and let his feet breath wiggling his toes in his socks Sam turned over and looked to Alex, ”I know you didn’t approve of me helping them but I had to get them out of the ice… it was the right thing to do…” even if it didn’t feel like it he knew he had to do it. Yes, a few years ago and before his promise with ghost he would have had no problem doing what he did and leaving them to die, no however he knew his guilt would have bugged him the rest of the night.
As soon as his head reached up and landed on his pillow he felt his body slowly drifting off and his eyelids growing heavy. Time like always was everything and their time there was short so instinctively his body started to slow down to the point he was ready to sleep. Sam however somehow managed to keep his eyes open long enough to see what exactly Alex was doing, would she join him or would she do something else?
