The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Her name is Jack. I think someone called her Haywire. Her mutations makes others... well, go Haywire. I... was one of several exposed to her. I don't remember exactly what happened. I think it may have something to do with what happened here, though.... I promised I would let Tricity know about her, so she would be used. Like we were..."
She ran a hand through her hair. "I'm afraid I didn't actually see her, so I can't really give a description. Sorry. I know it's not much. And if you could also find out what happened to my friend Nail, I'd appreciate that as well. I can make another sculpture of him later for you."
She paused for a moment. Her jaw clenched as she considered something else. Her eyes narrowed. "Also, if it's not too much trouble, there's a couple of others I'm interested in locating as well. I only know their first names though. Kaz and Syn." Her voice had hardened, her emotions going from unease to anger.
Hunter listened patiently to his daughter as she gave him the names of the mutants that she wanted found. When he heard Kaz and Syn’s names coupled with an increase in hostility in Paragon’s manner he began to suspect, but he wanted to see if he could verify his suspicions.
“Ok, so I’ll let Tricity know about Jack and Nail. Why do you want to locate Kaz and Syn?” he asked, know he probably wasn’t going to like the answer. He would have to speak to Kaz about this.

“Ok, so I’ll let Tricity know about Jack and Nail. Why do you want to locate Kaz and Syn?”
Why? Why indeed....
Syn? To try and claw that irritating, arrogant, smug grin off of the red-and-black haired girl's face would be one reason. Though Iris doubted she would be able to, she would love to try. Maybe if Deathstar helped....
Kaz? A rematch? Revenge maybe? As far as she was concerned it was his fault she'd been in KP to begin with, and she had never 'thanked' him for all he'd done....
Aloud she simply said, sarcastically, "I owe them a thank you."
Again she felt the chill as her body recovered. She blinked, and said, "I'm ready."
The next gem she activated was the onyx. As her hair and eyes became black as night, she put a hand over her eyes and blinked rapidly. The light was much too bright for this power.
Hunter was right. Kaz and Syn would pay for this. But right now he needed to focus on Paragon so be pushed thoughts of killing the pair of them aside. He watched her activate the dark vision gem. “Ah,” he said with a smile, “gimme a sec to set something up that should help.”
Heading out into the hallway he grabbed a thick black drape. Shutting the door behind him as he entered he covered the window with it, blotting out the very convincing hologram of the outside that was at her window. In doing so he plunged the room into darkness. “As well as healing I have very good night vision, so now we can both see. Quick test, how many fingers am I holding up?” he asked holding up three fingers.
“Well, I gotta be diverse,” he said whit a smile he knew she could see, “you never know what you might need when counselling mutants. So, is there anything else this gem can do besides see in the dark?”
The mutant who’d “donated” his DNA to make the onyx gem had been able to do more than simply see in the dark. He could also teleport through shadows. But even Hunter was unsure as to whether Paragon could do that, as the project was cancelled before that was tested.

Iris shrugged. "I'm not sure, really. I don't use it very often, except when Crystal wants me to practice sparring."
Boosted by the extra confidence the gem provided, she uncurled from her position. She leaned backwards and pushed herself onto her hands and feet, forming a sort of 'bridge'. She walked backwards towards the wall, placed her palms on the wall, then walked herself upright again. She then leaned against the wall, arms crossed behind her head.
"I've never really tried to do anything else. I wouldn't know what to try," she said thoughtfully.
Hunter watched Paragon’s little gymnastic display while off in his own thoughts. So she’d never tried anything, that could mean that she might be able to shadow teleport, but it would need testing at some point. He was starting to think of how he could justify getting her to try when he realised that he needed to focus on now and worry about possible extra abilities later.
“In that case if you turn odd the gem I’ll remove the drape,” he said as he went over to the window. Gripping the edge of the drape he turned to see Paragon deactivate the gem before he pulled it away, he didn’t want to blind her.

Iris nodded, and closed her eyes. The black faded away. She waited to see light from behind her eyelids, but kept her eyes closed to let them adjust a bit.
"I've never spent the time exploring my mutation before coming here. Hiding was always more important," she told Hunter quietly, still leaning against the wall. "Once we found out the surface powers, we concentrated more on keeping them hidden. My Tia and Tio were always supportive, no matter what happened. But they were the only ones who ever knew what I was. It wasn't until I started training with Crystal that I found out I could do more. Like freezing things other than water. Though I haven't really practiced that one yet. I can seem to get my focus right."
She was rambling again. She opened her grey eyes and shrugged, yet again reaching out to scratch at her shoulder.
Once the gem had been deactivated Hunter removed the drape and tossed it to one side. After listening to Paragon talk about her past it made him want to know more, know what his daughter’s life had been like.
“So what were they like? You’re foster parents I mean?” he asked nonchalantly. While it seemed like he was just making small talk he was in fact very interested in her past. He wanted to know if she’d had a happy childhood, like he’d tried to give her.

“So what were they like? You’re foster parents I mean?”
Iris blinked, her expression slightly confused. She'd never really thought of Max and Carol as 'foster parents'.
"Um well, I wouldn't consider them like parents really, since they're not married. They're brother and sister, twins actually. I guess I look at them more like Aunt and Uncle, really. They fight like they're married at times though." A smile crossed her face as she sat on the bed. "They're really funny to listen to, kind of like that old TV show, the Honeymooners? But they get along when it counts. They've got big hearts. They helped me open an animal shelter-slash-rehab center, and they've always been as helpful as possible in keeping my mutation under wraps."
She fell quiet for a bit, attempting to squelch sudden feelings of homesickness. "I guess they're the closest things to parents I've ever had. Come to think of it, they're the only humans I know of that don't hate mutants to some degree or another. Even the people I work with aren't shy about stating their feelings," she added dryly. "As far as everyone else is concerned, I'm just 'sympathetic'. One of my girlfriends keeps trying to set me up with one our rescuers. He's always trying to get me to picket with him and his 'group'. He'd probably die of a heart attack if he knew what I was. Not that that would be a bad thing...."
She stopped again. Why did she keep babbling about nothing? And to a complete stranger? Maybe this was what the aftereffects of cabin fever were?
"Uh, sorry. I haven't had too many people to talk to lately...." She shook her head, and attempted to change the subject.
"So how long have you worked here. You're awfully calm to have been working with out-of-control kids for long. And you don't look too much older than I am."
<"Come to think of it, he kind of looks like he could be my older brother. If his hair was lighter, maybe..."> she thought idly to herself. She attempted to supress another shiver as she again noticed Hunter's eye color. She knew that often mutants had strangely-colored eyes; her own and Kaz's were a testimant to that fact. But, considering her nightmares, that particular shade of silver was going to take some getting used to. At least he was kind, and not condemning her, as she'd expected.
She didn't notice that she had stopped fidgeting with her shoulder, and tugging at her shirt.
Hunter listened attentively as Paragon told him of her growing up. When he heard of the difficulties that she’d had because she was a mutant he became more confidant in his decision to have the gems removed and Iris given to an orphanage. Her life would have been so different had his orders been followed.
He knew that this was his fault, that he should have done a follow up at the very least to ensure that she was ok. But he had been trying to distance himself from her and bury his feelings, and after that order he had had nothing to do with Paragon until Crystal had begun to hack into the system.
“That’s part of the reason why I’m here, to talk to. You never have to apologise for talking too much ok, the fact that you can be open with someone is a good sign.” When he heard her question he gave a small chuckle, which was due to the comment about his age, “Actually I’ve been doing this for a while. The reason I’m so calm is my healing factor. If a kid loses it and attacks me I can let them get their anger out without worrying about being hospitalised. So I’m sort of a mix between councillor and stress ball,” he grinned at the little analogy to his fake counselling career.

"That's a strange job description," she remarked. "Do things like this happen often?" She couldn't fathom having to deal with such craziness on a daily basis.
Like clockwork, at the four-minute mark, she felt herself reset. Only two gems left. Before he could notice, and request which one to use, she called out the gympsum. The milky white jewel did its little vanish/reappear act from the middle of her back to her right hand, and her hair and eyes followed suit. Since her hair was already blonde, the change was a bit less visible than the others. However her eyes particularly were noticeable, as all sign of color vanished, except for two tiny, almost pinpoint-sized black dots that were her pupils. She squinted a bit, as this time she couldn't see very well. Everything looked shaded and shadowy, as if someone had turned the dimmer on.
(OOC: Sorry it's short; in a bit of a rush today.)
“It’s not uncommon for young mutants to have more power than they can control. Charles can’t be everywhere, so I help him out.” Hunter watched as she activated the gypsum gem and was suddenly squinting. Having been prepared for this he pulled out a small high power electric lamp, set it on the floor and turned it on.
Bright light flooded the room, causing him to squint a little. The light level should be just right so she could see without him being blinded. “Better?” he asked, wondering if he had gotten it right.

"Much," she answered with a nod.
Seeing him squint a bit as well, she reached out and pulled the lamp closer to her, aiming the light directly at her eyes. She cupped her hands around the edges slightly, so the room wasn't quite so bright. As long as she could see the glowing bulb in her periphial vision, it would give her enough to see by, without, hopefully, bothering him.
She tilted her head slightly as she looked at him. "How old were you when your mutation showed up? It doesn't sound like healing would be that awkward to control. Unless you were trying to fake sick from school, maybe."
