The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

(OOC: Just clarifying, so there won't be any confusion. This thread takes place the day after KP, before the Registration begins.
Iris shivered slightly. She reached over to pull the covers of the bed back on, but couldn't seem to find them. She reached further, and rolled over.
And fell onto the floor with a surprised Oooff!
She sat up groggily, blinking. It took a few moments to realize that she'd been sleeping on top of the sheets, not between them. Another moment and it also registered that she wasn't wearing pajamas; she'd fallen asleep in her everyday clothes. Why had she done that?? She didn't usually fall asleep without changing, unless she'd had an unusually stressful day....
"Ugh.... that's right...." she muttered, as all of the previous day's mayhem came flooding back, in detail.
Suddenly she felt the need for another shower. In the back of her mind she wondered if she'd ever feel normal again.
"Hello! You’re a mutant. Odd is normal for you.”
Iris sighed, remembering Crystal's words. She avoided looking in the mirror as she gathered her necessaries.
After showering and dressing, she set about caring for Ebony. The siamese was currently huddled under the bed, blue eyes wide. Every now and then she would yowl loudly. She refused to be coaxed out by either food or her favorite treats. Finally Iris gave up, and sat on the bed, ignoring the annoyingly high-pitched sound.
For awhile she simply stared at the wall, knees pulled up to her chin, arms wrapped around her legs. So many thoughts flew through her mind, disjointed and unorganized, and fragmented.
Should she leave? It was her first reaction to run. Her loss of control put so many people in danger... What if it happened again? Jack hadn't been anywhere nearby when Iris had gone berzerk; had Syn or Kaz done something to her during one of her blackouts, or was it a side effect of simply being exposed once? She had no way of knowing. Which meant she also had no way of knowing if she would freak out again. What if it was a mental trigger? Iris knew her gems made her mentally unstable anyway. Could she risk it?
"If you leave here then you have more chances of loosing control around people who wont care wether you live or die. They will do anything to stop you...but since people like me, Nika and everyone else in the mansion knows how to calm you down. It will be a lot easier for us to control you, and you can trust us much more than creepy humans.
"Please don't think about leaving. There are lots of people here who like you and a bunch of them were trying their best to help you in their own ways."
Iris's gaze shifted to the snoglobe sitting on her desk.
She'd made more friends here in a short time than she'd made in all of her twenty years. Deathstar and Raphael hadn't seemed to mind her lack of control, nor had Nika. Daria had been kind, even after catching her 'bending' the rules. Chip and his friends had practically adopted her as a big sister. Even Ruby had been kind, despite being a near stranger. Plus those who'd helped calm her down; those two boys that had been concerned after she woke up. The one who'd also been a prisoner at KP at one point.... she never did find out his name, but he too had seemed to understand that she wasn't herself. And Tricity had welcomed her with open arms.
Did she really want to leave all of that behind?
But what about Nail? What had happened to him? She gulped, scared to consider the possibilities, but knowing she wouldn't be able to sleep until she found out.
Not that she'd be able to sleep well from now on anyway....
Iris inhaled, then let out a deep sigh, and rubbed her temples. The tell-tale signs of an oncoming migraine tugged at her neck and shoulders. She stood stiffly and began hunting through her still-unpacked possessions for some ibuprofen. At least that problem had a clear-cut solution to it, if she acted quickly enough.....
Hunter walked down the corridor of the replica mansion towards Paragon’s room. When the helicopter had landed he had quickly and efficiently transferred Paragon to her room and her items placed back in their exact positions. Everything was exactly as she had left it.
The cameras in the room had noted when Paragon woke up. Hunter, dressed in the more casual outfit of jeans and a shirt, was now fast approaching the girl’s door. He was mentally preparing himself for his first encounter with his daughter in years. His story was ready, and he was confidant that it would be believed. Reaching the room he knocked gently on the door.

It may have been quiet, but apparently Iris was still jumpy. The sound of a knock at the door sent a startled jolt through her. The result was the box she was currently digging through crashing to the floor, spilling books, computer discs and a few miscellaneous items onto the floor. Ebony hissed loudly from her hiding place, and shot out from under the bed and into the bathroom.
She paused to take a deep breath, attempting to stop her hands, and the rest of her, from shaking. She went to the door and opened it a few inches, just enough to see the person on the other side.
For a brief moment her mind froze. The silver eyes staring back at her were the same ones from her nightmares... the ones in the lake... and the figure in black....
She gulped and closed her eyes. <"Get a grip Iris! You're hallucinating again!"> She looked up again, and managed to see the figure attached to the eyes. The man was tall, and had dark hair and silver eyes, but he was definately a person, not a clawed image from her nightmares. She gulped.
"I-I'm sorry. I had rough... night..." She shook her head again and sighed. "Can I help you?" All facts and issues aside, she really wasn't in the mood for company right then.
Hunter gave his daughter a reassuring smile. Her night had been rougher than she knew. “So I’ve been told,” he said calmly, “I’m Hunter Antonescu, and after speaking to Tricity she thought you might appreciate having someone to talk to. I’m a councillor and am here to help.”
He could see she was on edge, and he did want to help put her at ease. When she had opened the door he thought he had seen something like recognition on her face, but dismissed it. “If now is a bad time I could come back later?” he offered. There was no need to rush her.

A councilor? Sent by Tricity? Oh boy....
A look of dismay crossed Iris' face. She'd forgotten about the Headmistress. No doubt Tricity had been less than thrilled to see the damage caused to her home. She wasn't sure to be relieved or worried that the woman hadn't come in person to talk to her.
"I guess she must not be too happy with me at the moment...." She sighed and opened the door wider, motioning for Hunter to come into the room. "Sorry for the mess. I was... packing... I guess." She sat on the bed, pulling her legs up again. "Though I guess I need to see about damages first. Find some way to fix things. Or help pay. Or something... I..."
She paused, running a hand through her hair. She wasn't sure what to say or ask, or even think for that matter. She felt, and probably looked, like a lost little girl all over again.
Hunter gave Paragon a warm smile that wasn’t entirely fake. “Don’t worry about the damage,” he said placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder, “that’s all going to be taken care of. What’s important right now is you. You’ve had a tough couple of days. Tricity just wants to make sure you’re ok.”
He was a little worried about her mentioning packing, he needed to somehow convince her to stay, at least for a while anyway. Hopefully his words would convince her to stay. If not, he might have to resort to his eyes.

"Not unless you count jumping at my own shadow or every little noise as 'okay'. Or attacking my friends for no reason." When he placed his hand on her shoulder, she reflexively tensed and pulled away. An image of Kaz reaching out to touch her check flashed through her mind. She gulped and shook her head. "S-sorry. I didn't mean to... I mean it's not you. I just reacted..." She glanced down at her hand, simply to be sure her ice gem hadn't activated itself; she was apologizing like it had. But there was nothing there.
Suddenly she got up from her seat and went to shut the bathroom door. With Ebony locked in she went to open the other door. She flushed a bit in embarrassment at her reaction. "Sorry," she apologized again, noticing that her hands were still shaking slightly. "I-I'm not to fond of closed in places. Anymore."
She noticed the pad on her desk, and the note she had begun writing. She sat at the desk, and began fiddling with the snoglobe. "I'm just not sure if it's safe if I stay here. For anyone else. If I lose control again...." She closed her eyes, not wanting to consider what might happen.
Hunter withdrew his hand when Iris flinched away. He felt… something, but pushed it aside to focus. Iris’s ordeal had left her on edge, and she needed time to collect herself. As Iris took a seat at her desk he stepped further into the room and sat down on the edge of her bed.
“You don’t need to worry about hurting anyone else,” he told her, trying to break the news to her as gently as he could, “Tricity wants to help you, but at the same time she doesn’t want to endanger the other students. For a while you’ll only be seeing and talking to me.
“You don’t have to worry about hurting me as I have the ability to heal any wound you inflict on me quickly enough. I’m here to help you not only to come to terms that what happened was not your fault, but also to regain control of your powers so that you can go and see your friends again. Did you think that you’d get kicked out just for losing control? This was an accident, that’s all. I’m going to help you so that you don’t have any more accidents.”
He gave her a warm smile as he finished. While his objective was to analyse Paragon, discover how far she had developed and what she was capable of, it would also give him a chance to get to know his daughter. That was something that, though he would never admit it, he was looking forward to.

“You don’t need to worry about hurting anyone else. Tricity wants to help you, but at the same time she doesn’t want to endanger the other students. For a while you’ll only be seeing and talking to me."
Iris winced slightly at that news. Not that she was surprised at all, considering.
“You don’t have to worry about hurting me as I have the ability to heal any wound you inflict on me quickly enough. I’m here to help you not only to come to terms that what happened was not your fault, but also to regain control of your powers so that you can go and see your friends again. Did you think that you’d get kicked out just for losing control?" She shrugged. Actually, she had been wondering... "This was an accident, that’s all. I’m going to help you so that you don’t have any more accidents.”
"That was no accident," she growled angrily, slamming a fist on the desk. In the next second, she recoiled again, shaking out her hand. "Sorry. I didn't mean to snap. I just meant.... Nevermind." She shook her head. She wasn't quite ready to relive what had happened to her and Nail by talking about it. Not just yet. She needed something else to think about instead.
She turned around in her chair to look at Hunter. He was smiling at her, which made her feel a little better. At least not the whole world was angry with her. She sighed in resignation. "So, what did you have in mind? One of my friends made a training program for me." She stood and went to where her phone was lying on the ground, where it had landed after she'd thrown it. It looked like the battery was dead, so she set it on the charger. "Guess I can't use it now though. Not that I'm in the mood for her attitude anyway."
A chagrined look crossed her face. "Ugh, I feel like kid all over again. I haven't been grounded since I was fourteen." She scratched nervously at her shoulder.
“I promise you this will go on no longer than necessary,” Hunter said with a smile. He could see that there was far more to the incident that had happened at the mansion that he knew, but right now Paragon didn’t want to reveal what had happened, so Hunter would not push her.
“For starters I was just planning some light exercises with your powers, but only when you feel ready.” He wasn’t going to push her, he would let her move on at her own pace. “We can start as soon as you like, but there is no rush. You can take all the time you need.”

Iris shrugged. "It's not like I have anything else to do right now." She paused, then asked, "You're sure you can heal fast?"
Since she still didn't understand exactly what had been done to her, she didn't trust herself anymore, especially knowing there was a possibility that her opal power might activate on its own.
"Um... how much did Tricity tell you? Ab-about my mutation, I mean." She bit her tongue slightly, wishing she could also rid herself of that annoying stutter.
“Anything you do to me will be healed in a couple of hours at worst,” Hunter assured her, “So you can relax. If something goes wrong you won’t hurt anyone. As for your mutation, she told me everything. Now, I’m going to take it nice and slow, and if you feel uncomfortable we can stop at any time.”
Giving her another warm smile he asked, “For starters can you activate the ice gem please. Take your time, and when you feel ready activate it.” He knew that something had happened to Paragon while she had been captured, and was unsure if there had been any lasting effects. He didn’t want to put her in danger, so wouldn’t push her to do more than she was comfortable with.

<"Figures...,"> she thought to herself. When he requested the Aquamarine, her expression showed her dismay. As if she didn't feel small enough already....
She closed her eyes for a moment, to gather her thoughts, and her nerve. It seemed like an eternity, though only a few minutes passed. Finally the obvious changes appeared. Her hair changed to a chilly blue. Her skin took on a faint blue tint as well, and frost collected. She opened her eyes and glanced up at him. They were a frozen blue also.
Her gaze shifted to the floor, and she began fidgeting. "Now what?" She gulped slightly, trying to push the feeling of being under a microscope out of her mind.
Hunter could immediately sense Paragon becoming more self-conscious. E decided the best approach would be regular praise to try and limit the mental side-effect of the gem. “Very good,” he complemented, “now I’ve heard you can make some beautiful ice shapes. I was wondering if you could make something for me? Only if you feel up to it, there’s no need to push yourself hard.”
He offered her no direction as to what she should make, but would let her decided. He kept smiling at her, one that was infused with a little bit of fatherly care. While he’d never admit it, he wanted Paragon to come out of her current depression for more than just professional reasons. He wanted to see his daughter happy.

Ice shapes? That was easy enough.... But what?
She rubbed her arm nervously. She held up her free hand, and blew onto it. Her breath came out as a mist, which solidified into a small ice crystal. She used both hands to pull at it, making it larger. She fiddled with it for a few moments, still unsure of what to make. Eventually it took a vauge shape, then two. They soon began to resemble people. She set them on the desk, gently.
"Those are my guardians, Tia Carol and Tio Max. They raised me, and helped me find this place," she explained quietly. "I haven't been able to speak to them for a while though.... Her voice trailed off.
To take her mind off of it she began creating numerous, and miscellaneous things; plants, butterflies, an oversized snowflake. Several other figurines took shape as well, including Nika, Deathstar and Nail. She bit her lip again as she realized that the desk was becoming overcrowded.
