The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Hunter watched as she formed the shape of her foster parents. As he stared at the ice sculpture he felt something akin to jealousy that they got to know his daughter so well while he knew nothing other than cold hard data. Squashing the errant thought he focused on the various ice shapes that Iris had made.
“No need to apologise,” he said with a genuine smile, “They’re all beautiful. You have quite a talent for ice sculpting. Unless you want to make some more that’s enough of the ice gem for now. For today I just want to check they all work. We’ll work on water next.”
Hunter knew that there was a recovery time, but there was no point in seeming like a smart ass. “There’s no rush,” he told her, still smiling, “and if you want to stop just say. You seem a little nervous about testing them all, is there something I should know?”
While he wanted to press on with the tests, he didn’t want to push Paragon too hard. She was very fragile at the moment, and if he pushed too hard she might break. He would take the four minute break to try and get to know his daughter better.

“There’s no rush, and if you want to stop just say. You seem a little nervous about testing them all, is there something I should know?”
<"Nervous is an understatement.">
Aloud she said, "Um... well... One of them is more...." She fumbled for the right wording, since 'unstable' pretty much described everything about her powers, as opposed to the one stone. Finally she sighed. "To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what one of them does. I've only used it a couple of times, and I don't remember what happens when I do. I think it has something to do with explosions." At least, Syn had told her she'd destroyed one of the cell walls. Not that Iris trusted anything she said. "And my ears are always ringing afterward. I... ...."
Again she let her voice trail off. She closed her eyes for a few moments. She wasn't used to this, talking to someone about what she was capable of. For as long as she could remember, hiding what she was had been a daily job. And as her hometown was more fanatic when it came to mutants, her safety, and that of her family and friends, depended on her discretion. She had hope coming to the School would aid her in that. But instead she.....
She returned to her seat at the desk, back to Hunter. She was on the verge of tears, but was prideful enough to try and keep him from seeing them.
"I'm sorry," she apologized quiet. "I know you're trying to help. I just... My hometown isn't mutant friendly. At all. I thought, maybe, coming here.... I don't what I thought. I guess I was just trying to keep my friends and family safe. But when I first got here, I tried to help someone, and got both of us caught instead. I tried to help him again, and he only got hurt. And my friends here.... I know it wasn't my fault that I lost control, but my friends are the ones who paid for it anyway. I'm just not sure there's anything you can do to help me." She swallowed against the lump in her throat.
"I don't know where these stones came from, and I don't know what they're capable of, except destruction. Crystal said they aren't a normal mutation. Not that 'normal' applies anyway...." She caught herself as she started to ramble, and took a deep breath to collect herself. "I don't remember anything from when I was little, how this may have happened to me. And after this..... I'm not sure I want to know...."
Hunter listened as Paragon explained her feelings a little more. He had not intended for her life to be this way, she was meant to have the stones removed. She should have been able to live a normal life with none of the worries of being a mutant. If his orders had been followed none of this would have happened. He was going to find who was responsible and make them pay.
“I understand Iris, but you have to stop blaming yourself for this. If you had never come here do you think that this incident would have never happened? Those people would have found someone else, possibly someone with an even more destructive power than yours. The mansion would have been attacked had you been here or not. This is in no way your fault. You have to believe me.”
As he spoke he mad eye contact and suppressed her depression a little. Not much, but just enough to allow her to pull herself out of it if she wanted to. He wasn’t going to do it for her, she had to recover from this on her own, but he would offer her help along the way.

The strangest combination of feelings went through Iris's mind as she looked at Hunter. She felt a bit calmer, a bit more comfortable talking to him. He seemed genuinely interested in helping her, though she supposed as a councilor he would be.
But at the same time, there was something... else... something about his eye color....
She blushed a bit when she realized she was staring, and looked down again. "Sorry. Um, thank you. F-for trying to help." There was an awkward pause as she suddenly found herself at a loss for words.
A slight shiver went through her once her body reset. Looking for a way to ease the awkwardness, she activated the Tanzinite. Her hair washed a dull violet, and her eyes followed suit. The purple gem appeared in her right palm. She took a deep breath and looked back up at Hunter, most of the uneasiness gone from her face.
"This one controls liquids," she explained, though she figured he probably already knew. "It's the easiest one to deal with, especially when I'm stressed. Though my mouth tends to get me in trouble with it active..."<"And flash-blinded,"> she added ruefully to herself.
Giving her a reassuring smile Hunter watched her hair and eyes change once again. He had always liked the colour that the water gem turned her hair, he thought it her most beautiful gem. Admiring the beautiful woman that his little girl had become for a moment he then realised that there was no liquid to use.
“Well, a liquid control gem is a little useless without liquid,” he said with a smile, “so do you mind going and collecting some water from the sink in the bathroom. A sphere about this size should do.” He put his thumbs and first fingers together to show the size sphere he wanted.

She nodded, and went to the bathroom, opening the door carefully to be sure Ebony wouldn't bolt out. She turned on the water, and as it ran she pulled it up and out of the sink, into a little blob. Turning off the sink, she sent the blob out into the room, as she made a quick check on her cat, huddled in the corner. Then she followed and closed the door again.
"She doesn't like water, or me when I'm using this gem." Iris smiled slightly.
The water floated in the air before her, like a bubble.
Hunter watched Paragon go into the bathroom and return with a floating blob of water. When she was younger and the mutant whose power she was using still alive she had loved having water fights with him suing the gem. That memory, discarded for over a decade, suddenly made its way to the surface from among the myriad of memories that he had gathered during his long life. It was one of the few were he had felt contented. Seeing her using the power now he decided to try and recreate some of that.
“Very nice,” he commented on the floating water ball, “for a quick little test try and squirt half of it into my mouth. Be careful not to spill any.” Grinning at her, something he had not done in over fifteen years, he opened his mouth and waited to see if her aim had improved.

Iris raised an eyebrow in surprise, but her smile widened slightly. Her aim was one thing she was very proud of.
"Okay, but there are more normal ways to get a drink, you know."
The blob split in two, and the first part shot forward in a mini-fountain, right on target.
Then the mischievous part of that particular mutation mad itself manifest. The second part of the blob shot forward as well, this time aimed for the middle of his forehead. Her hand flew to her mouth.
Hunter caught the first half in his mouth and drank the water. He was just swallowing when the second half hit him in the face. Giving a spluttering laugh that squirted some water back in Paragon’s direction he was glad to see her beginning to rise out of her depression, even if it was because of the gem.
“Thanks a lot for that,” he said, struggling to suppress a grin. It felt good to simply be fooling around with his daughter again, even if it was under false pretences. In his time Hunter has experienced the full range of human emotions, but dark far more so than light. While he knew he’d been in the dark too long to ever truly return to the light, it was nice to emerge from the shadows, even if it was for a time. He knew that given time Paragon would fade and die, just like everyone else, but for now he would enjoy these precious few moments, for there were not likely to be many more once she was gone.

The droplets of water hung in the air as Iris kept them from falling. "Sorry about that," she said. "I tend to get a bit... silly... using this gem." She pulled the extra water away, leaving Hunter's face dry again, and reformed the now half-sized blob. With a wave she sent it back to the bathroom, through the crack under the door, and into the sink.
Crossing her legs, she sat in the middle of the floor. Holding out her hand, she took control of the liquid inside Ruby's snoglobe, and floated it over to her. Then she deactivted the jewel, returning to normal again.
She sighed deeply as the uneasiness returned, though not quite so keenly. She shook the globe, and watched the flakes settle again.
"This feels strange," she remarked quietly. "I haven't been able to talk to too many people for a while. At least not people that I wanted to talk with... Unless you count telling them off.... A hint of malice crept into her tone.
Hunter was impressed that Paragon had the control to dry him without draining his body’s moisture. When she was younger they had to dry with towels after their water fights. She had certainly developed her powers while she had been away. Hearing her mention the lack of people to talk to Hunter came and sat down opposite her.
“Well is there anything in particular you want to talk about?” he asked. With at least four minutes until the next gem could be used so they might as well talk. When Paragon was little he had always managed to make her feel a little better when she was down, he hoped to do it again.

“Well is there anything in particular you want to talk about?”
Without moving her head, she glanced up at him, as if she were looking over the top of a pair of glasses.
Was there anything she wanted to talk about? Not particularly. Deep down she knew she needed to talk, to someone. Otherwise she was never going to recover... Or so her Tia had told her. 'Sometimes the body heals faster than the mind.' But it was easier said than done.
She turned away, and again scratched nervously at her shoulder. After a long moment, she answered his question with one of her own.
"Can you ask Tricity to find someone for me, a certain mutant? If I gave you a description? Since I can't leave yet. I... I promised someone that I would let Tricity know about her...." Her eyes narrowed slightly. She intended on keeping that promise to Nail.
Hunter could see she was uncomfortable talking about what happened, and he wanted to help with his mesmer, but he couldn’t do it for her. This was something she needed to do her self. What she asked was a simple request, one that he could in fact carry out now that Calley was in the mansion.
“Of course,” he said, “Who are you looking for?” He wondered what Iris wanted with another mutant, but rather than ask he’d wait for her to explain. This, like the practise with her powers, needed to go at her pace. He couldn’t push her.
