The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Skye, I don't think you need to worry about that, your hair and light draws much more attention than your sleepwear~" She teased. Emily had actually heard a few comments here and there about Skye, but she'd never met her before tonight or actually put the rumours to a person. When you worked around Gemma you tended to pick up a little mansion gossip here and there, which she really didn't mind too much.
"I suppose there isn't anything wrong with that." Emily glanced down at her own clothes and feigned a grimace before smirking. "I don't think my style has changed since I was approximately 14 years old. Cool never goes out of style, clearly."
The compliment drew a small blush out of the Brit and she took back the pad a little sheepishly. "Thanks. I've been playing a game with my dad a little online the last few months and it sort of inspired it." She shifted in her position a little before picking up her sketch pad and stepping off the beanbag, perching cross legged on an actual sofa, a little closer to Skye.
"You'd be surprised," is all the mutant said in response. After awhile, one would get used to her constantly changing hair and glowing hands; that or just move on. Though she was aware that she tended to draw attention, both unwanted and wanted; not that she knew nor cared what her reputation around the mansion was. Well, she normally didn't, anyway.
"Yeah, I mean I don't want to say it's some kind of crisis, but I think it'll be fun. And like I said, nothing too permanent. I've hidden under hoodies for most of my life, anyway. Maybe it's time for a change. See what else there is to the human disco-ball, yeah?" She gave a smile as the other woman moved a little closer.
"You have talent," she complimented. "I haven't drawn in ages, but even at my best I wasn't that good. Though maybe that's something else I could do: re-explore old hobbies. I'm realizing as much time as I've spent brooding under this dark cloud...that's not who I am. That's not me, and...just giving up isn't exactly me either."
At that point, something...odd happened. The lights on her hands turned blue, as well as her hair, but it was a different shade. This wasn't quite red, wasn't quite orange. It was burning and intense, powerful yet subdued. Determination, bubbling just underneath the surface. But it didn't feel negative. In fact, she felt....empowered.

She didn't think she would be surprised, Emily had lived around here for ages at this point and she regularly saw people with those physical mutations like extra limbs or skin tone or whatever, and she did definitely get used to them but Skye was flashier than most people she met. It was funny that her personality suited her power so well. Emily smiled a little inwardly at the thought.
She'd heard people bringing up the idea that powers were suited to the person but she really didn't feel like she suited empathy, she was always complaining about it and resulted in killer headaches.
"I guess you're right, it could be kind of fun..." What colour should she even dye her hair? She was leaning towards purples a little bit. Maybe she could just start with something like some highlights?
Blushing a little more earnestly she shook her head a little. "I wouldn't go that far, I just had encouragement and it's a good hobby for taking my mind off of things around me. I prefer to game but doing that doesn't really work all the time.." Emotions tended to mess that up more than art, maybe it was something about creativity. The blush was mostly because she knew the other girl was sincere about her compliment. Funny how that worked.
A sly grin spread across her lips. "Oh my, I take it back. that is your colour." A little shiver ran up her back, she really enjoyed being around this one in particular. "Now that's not very common" She mused thinking about it. "It's not quite excitement? Resolve? Determination?" Her lips twisted into a pretty wide grin. "It's pretty." She wasn't even looking at Skye, referring to the emotion rather than the colour it caused.

"Well, I still like it," she countered with a friendly smile. "Tell me about it; video games were my escape of choice, more often than not, but those haven't exactly worked," she said with a nervous giggle.
"Really...?" She looked down at her hands, at the fiery red light that illuminated her part of the room. "This is a new one. I feel...I don't know, determined I think is a good word for it. I just have this sudden....empowerment. Like I can do this. I spent so much time finding my happiness and empowerment in someone else that I forgot what it meant to find that in myself and...you're helping me find that again," she said with a grin, something flashing in her eyes.

Emily could understand that. She had about 20 different coping mechanisms for the various issues she ran into in life, and sometimes felt like she was just rapidly cycling through them during the day, going from one to another until something started working and she got a little relief. It dawned on her that although the caffeine was preventing her from feeling too dopey, her headache was gone.
Actually, she felt kind of... energised. She shifted in the seat again gazing into the ceiling for a few moments, enjoying the ambient glow a lot. Before sitting up quickly and straightening out, turning to flash another smile at Skye.
"Well luckily for you I have some experience in the field, which I really don't care to repeat." Depending on another person for your happiness was... Well it was messy, especially if they weren't wholly stable themselves. Emily hadn't thought about Kendra in a while, but on this particular occasion it didn't actually bother her too much. She'd found herself a... friend? She hoped they were friends, which sounded kind of cheesy in her head, but she actually didn't have too many of them and if her previous drama helped her get Skye to improve her outlook, maybe it was a good thing it happened.
"I'm glad. I've literally just met you and I can already tell you that this is much more your style than moping." She teased. "Yeah, I am pretty spectacular aren't I?"

"I can understand that," she replied with a sympathetic nod. This was a good step, and the biggest step she'd taken in awhile. As far as her situation went, she would hold onto hope, but at the same time, she wasn't going to let that define her no matter which way it went. Hope for sunshine but bring your umbrella and all that jazz. In the meantime, she had a life to live, training to do, and grades to somehow drag back from Ds to the As she was used to bringing in.
"I like to think I was harder to figure out than that," she teased, sticking her tongue out playfully as the red orange settled back into a joyful one. "As far as this first meeting goes, I'd say you're definitely something else," she said with a smile. "Again, thanks for everything. I feel...rejuvenated now."

Emily brushed past those old thoughts and smiled to herself, it sort of felt like she'd been closed off to people for a while, and there was something wrong with that picture. Maybe it wasn't just Skye that was being an broody angsty brooder. Although Emily was going to avoid another situation like that last one like the plague, she really ought to open herself up a bit more to people that she could trust, she figured she could with Skye, more or less at the very least.
"Hah, you're pretty much an open book to me." She wasn't 100% certain on how Skye would react by any means, but she was pretty sure that she wouldn't hate or ridicule Emily for being an empath and not advertising it. "I cheat, I'm an empath. But you do bring a new meaning to wearing your heart on your sleeve, in my defence." She admitted.
"You know what?.." Another grin, she was smiling an unusual amount. God she was such a little edgy teenager, she'd never really grown out of that phase apparently. Self reflection was lame. "I think it has been for me too. I've not really done much actual hanging out, or made friends beyond very casual for at least a couple years."
Looking pensive for a moment. "I think hanging out will be good for both of us."

Skye smirked at Emily's admission. "That actually makes a lot of sense. Sure, people have guessed which emotion fits which color, but nobody's that good," she said, leaning forward a bit as she stuck her tongue out teasingly again. "I've never met an empath before, but I gotta say our powers seem to get along pretty well."
She nodded, her hair now turning bright yellow. "Hanging out sounds like a great idea! It's been so long, and I'm growing to like your company," she said excitedly. "Despite my bubbly personality, I'd say I don't have a whole lot of friends either, if I'm being honest, she admitted.

It felt good to predict behaviour accurately, even if Emily had been a little unusually nervous about bringing up her power to Skye. She supposed if the situation were reversed she'd probably have a similar reaction. People that knew Skye could probably read her emotions just based on looking at her anyway, so Emily guessed that she was used to it. It'd be nice to spend some time with a person not reading into or even mildly irritated with Emily having an inkling of what was going on inside their head.
Pfft. "I like to think some of it has to do with my insightful, awesome personality personally." Maybe it was mostly her power. Yeah, okay so she did suck around adapteds. Okay it was just her power.
"Yeeeeup. I've kind of been internally cackling over the coincidence the entire time." Cackling, not giggling. It was maniacal. For sure.
"Likewise, you're alright." She teased. "Oh really? You seem like you'd traditionally be very sociable to me. You're a very vibrant person."

"They do compliment each other, naturally~" Skye quipped with another smirk. "Cackling? Really?" The girl teased lightly. "Though...I gotta admit, I'm...tickled pink by the whole situation, really," she admitted as she attempted to crack a lame joke. Color puns. Lovely.
"That's what's so weird about it," she admitted somberly, tossing in a shrug. "The powers rub some people the wrong way, I guess. Though I haven't really been one for lasting friendships, it seems. Guess that's one of those things that I need to change. One of the ways I'll come out of my slump better than I was, yeah?" She gave a weak smile as her hair briefly flashed blue, but reverted to orange in half a second.

Emily narrowed eyes with the other girl. "Yes, cackling. What else would I have been doing?" The pho-glare increased. Puns. Puns were the lowest form of humour. "That's the best you could come up with, really? Tickled pink." She snorted derisively.
"Those people are lame." Most people were lame. "I mean, as long as you're not going around blinding two thirds of the people you meet I do find it odd that more people aren't interested in you." Although she did admit that initially she didn't want to be disturbed by Skye, that was more an Emily problem than anything that was wrong with Skye.
"Yeah, a lot of my friends are very casual as I said, the ones that aren't tended to fall out of touch." Which she guessed made them casual friends, but she'd thought she'd had a better read on some of them as people.
She studied Skye as her emotions shifted again and nodded gently. "I don't really look at it so much as self improvement as self appreciation."
After a few more moments of pondering Emily's own situation she decided that it was probably a combination of her mildly abrasive personality and people being weirded out that their feelings weren't private around her. So much shame from some people...
"Besides, if people were put off by your powers, or weren't interested in pursuing anything further you're probably better off without them." That was maybe a little more of her own cynicism and a little projecting, but nobody was perfect.

"You only say that because you don't know what pink actually means," she said, blowing a light raspberry. Maybe that particular emotion wasn't one to joke about, but Skye was in the moment. So much so that she'd almost forgotten about her current problems. Well, she had for a little while, anyway.
"I really don't know, but you're right. It's their loss, not mine," she said firmly, adding a reassured nod as her confidence was budding yet again. She really let Emily's words sink in. Maybe she was right.
"That's true."
Skye bit her lip as she thought a moment, taking in everything the other woman had said up to this point. A change was definitely in order for the young mood-based mutant, and in the end, she was going to come out of this stronger and a better person for it.

She raised an eyebrow at Skye and her lips teased a smile "Oh, and what is it exactly that it means?" Her smirk widened. "Although, I'd probably pick up on what it means being around you long enough anyway." changing the subject a little Emily felt a little candid for a moment. "I've actually been nerding out a little bit... If that makes any sense, just because it's so interesting to see a different representation of a person's emotions." Emily really wasn't that fussed about appearance when it came to impressions with people but she couldn't help but feel something about Skye's power made her much more interesting.
"Well duh." As if it was such a completely obvious thing. Emily fancied herself as a bit of a people expert, and understood that they were pretty complex but still, you couldn't dwell on the people not super interested in you. If she did that, a lot of time would be spent brooding or moody. Well... More time anyway. "I usually am."
Emily enjoyed watching people being pensive, actually considering things. It was both a little bit ego driven, she enjoyed knowing that her input was valued and that it was effecting people's cognitive process, and their emotions, and also that it was just that people were very interesting.
She was still very much buzzing on the energy in the room even though it was just the two of them. Weird how that worked sometimes.

"Pink is more of a rarity," Skye explained. "But it's normally reserved for love, passion, warm fuzzy feelings." It really was one of her rarer colors, but sadly it was also one of the prettier ones. "I understand; it's really cool when two mutations mesh like that. Seeing how different ones interact. Almost makes me wonder what someone who can control light could do with mine," she mused, letting her mind drift to that scenario for a moment. That could either be really cool or really bad. Or some hellish mixture of the two.
"I'm starting to see that," she joked.
After a few moments, Skye relaxed even more, stifling a yawn as she subconsciously curled up in the chair, tucking her legs underneath her and laying her head on the armrest of the chair as her hair flitted back to the content that was indigo, her eyes starting to close in the cool bluish light.

"Warm fuzzy feelings are nice. Passion can be... funky." It was interesting that they overlapped for Skye because Emily found them very distinct. "Those feelings are interesting to be honest. There are so many people that are very..." She trailed off, not really sure how to articulate what she meant.
Emily knew for a fact that there was a difference between teenagers into each other and people that had true, deep feelings for one another. And that didn't necessarily have to be romantic. A little grin spread on her lips as she felt the other girl settling down gently. "You'd better be." she quipped quietly.
Emily glanced over, deciding not to say anything else that might disturb her while she was feeling at peace and quietly turned a page in the sketch book and began idly scribbling, just letting her mind wander on emotions and how different individual's experienced them.
Smiled again and covered up a chuckle, standing up quietly and scooping a blanket from one of the corners, quietly draping it across the other girl. She didn't know if she was actually falling asleep yet, but if she was it'd probably smart to stay warm while she did.
She settled back down into sketching, now just in silence, no longer with a headache or as a distraction, but because she wanted to.
