The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Yeah, I know how to do it, for sure, the problem is it's never worked because I've only ever tried it on myself," she said with a nervous giggle. "Yeah, it's a lot quieter and more personal at home, even if you can get better quality from a salon. And spend more money..."
She nodded. "Yep. Indigo is a content color. Peaceful." She slouched in her chair a bit, crossing one leg over the other as she was now considerably more open and relaxed than she had been. "I don't really drink coffee, honestly. I don't hate it, but I don't really rely on it to function. And no offense but cocoa just seems to taste better."
She blushed lightly, her hair turning back to purple, but flickering to orange on occasion. "You think so? I really appreciate that. Yeah it's been hard for me to bring myself to do anything lately, but I'm working on it, and I hoped I was doing better."
She gave a nervous laugh as her hair once again settled on indigo. "Girl trouble," she said simply.

Emily nodded. It would probably be pretty fun for Skye to do that, and also it'd be good to spend more time with her, if anything it might give Emily more practice at controlling herself around particularly strong emotions. She did wonder if Skye was always like this, but that was a question for later.
Her lips quirked again. "It's not so much that, it's just the environment." Emily looked down at her drawing and carried on adding to it almost unconsciously for a good second before forcing herself to look back up. Feeling a little frustrated.
It was Skye's next mood shift that shook her out of it. Emily started suddenly and her gaze flickered over to Skye with a mischievous smirk. "So embarrassment mixed with some happiness then?~" She teased.
"And when you're up this late as often as I am it's as much a habit as a necessity, at least I can still be productive while I'm miserable~" She chirped, sprinkling in some classic British humour.
"I'm sorry." She listened to the full explanation and then started a response before pausing, thinking a little more and adding. "I understand, it can be hard sometimes when you're in a state like that." She paused again. "Maybe you just need to try some new things and hang out with some new people, associate fun with different experiences, rather than just the ones you're dwelling on. It's basic conditioning."
Emily's cheeks actually reddened a little at the realisation of what she said. "Sorry, my Psyche is showing. I'll put that away shamefully."

"Yeah, I think I understand," she answered. "I guess? My emotions are normally more stable than they are now. At least, they used to be. Hopefully soon I can get them under control; it's kinda weird being a human mood ring sometimes. Though I've been told I'd be hella fun at a rave," she forced a laugh, though she thought it was a pretty good joke, albeit one she told way too much.
"Yeah, I'm trying to find new things to make me happy, that way I have something to turn to when my usual choices make me sad. I'm normally a lot more bubbly and outgoing than this, but...right now I feel better than I have in a long time, so...thanks. Besides, I've been told that with my abilities I should really see a therapist. I just always kinda blew that off," she gave another slight chuckle, her hair firmly settled on indigo now.

An odd thought struck her. "Does intensity effect them?" She wondered if it was all uniform, or if different shades of colours were dictated by intensity of emotions. Emily didn't think she'd actually ever met another person with an emotion orientated power, and this was as a result very intriguing to her, and also relate able in some ways.
Emily thought back to the last rave-esk party she was at and smiled, leaning her head back on the beanbag a little. "I'll bet. Those parties can be quite something, provided they have the right crowd." Parties were definitely a mixed bag, but a good one could be very memorable. Emily had specifically avoided any horror themed parties for very good reason.
With a mental shudder she was once again thankful that October had come and gone.
A bright smile blossomed on Emily's lips. "I'm glad, though I'd be even happier if you had a little bit more of that bright orange." She supplied. Joy was the absolute best.

"Oh! That's where the light on my hands comes in. Steady is honestly best, then they can be anything from a slow pulse to a strobe light. When negative emotions get too intense....it can result in an effect similar to a flash grenade," she explained.
"I've always wanted to go to one, but I just end up going to those college parties. Haven't been to one of those in ages, though," she mused lightly as she let one hand sort of idly toy with her indigo hair.
Almost as if on cue, Skye smiled and her hair flitted to that aforementioned bright orange, and she raised her hand, bathing the area around her in a soft orange light that pulsed slowly. "Heh...I think it's neat how my powers do that. Honestly I kind of missed the bright orange." And the pink, but that was another matter entirely, and one that Skye dared not think about right now. Preferably not for a long time, if ever at this point.

Ah, that made sense. Emily was wondering how bright it got until Skye mentioned the flash grenade thing. Not that she'd ever been around a flash grenade when one had gone off. But she imagined it was pretty bright and intense given that they were used to stun people. She couldn't imagine a scenario when she'd be around something like that.
"College parties are a mixed experience. Maybe you're just not going to the right kind." She'd actually not been to any recently. "Actually I don't think I've been to many this year, I've kind of kept to myself a bit more than usual." Maybe that was was why her power was bothering her so much, she hadn't been giving herself exposure much recently, more than absolutely necessary at least.
Emily giggled when she felt the subtle shift that coincided completely with Skye's hair shifting colour again. It was the girly-est sound to come out of her lips in probably weeks. The orange light was really cool, Emily felt warm too, though that was most likely because Sky was feeling happy. "Orange suits you." She decided.
"Honestly it's not even so much an appearance thing, happiness suits you." She grinned. "I have decided, therefore it is."

"I used to frequent them alot, but then stopped because I actually had a serious relationship, and didn't feel a need for that anymore. I liked them, and they were usually pretty fun. Maybe I should start back, all things considered," she mused with a shrug. "Maybe we could hit one together sometime, if you're up for that sort of thing." Skye extended the offer with a small shrug.
Then Emily giggled, and it honestly had to be the cutest thing she'd heard in awhile, especially considering that she hadn't acted remotely girly the entire time they'd been talking. "Thanks. I do think the more positive colors look better on me, but I could also be biased because of the feelings that are attached to each color. Though if I had to say so, I think I'm a pretty hot redhead," she jokingly gave a wink, the orange light on her hands now pulsing rapidly as she was grinning from ear to ear.
"Look! This is as intense as it gets. It's a happy emotion so I won't explode, but if it was blue, red, purple, or green, that would be the next step," she explained. "So if you're ever around me and you see my hands flicker like this with one of those colors...take cover and shield your eyes and ears, or wait until I give the okay." That was a debrief she gave pretty much everyone who intended to hang out with her at some point. And though she hadn't hung out in awhile, with her emotions the way they were, it was more important now than ever to keep her friends as safe as possible.
"Though I will admit, my powers have gotten me out of a tight spot on more than one occasion," she added as an afterthought, coupled with another smile. It really wasn't so bad, once she was able to keep herself grounded.

Emily wasn't usually at those types of parties, there was often drinking sure, but it was more games and movies, or a swimming pool or something involved. And she often left when the vibe turned towards the sort of thing Skye was suggesting. Though she supposed she could see what it was like, nothing ventured nothing gained and all that.
"I do enjoy a fun party, as long as it's a good vibe and not filled with creeps." She admitted, some people could just be gross with all the manipulation and whatnot.
In theory she supposed if Skye was just looking for a hookup, shudder, she could help point her in the direction of one of the slightly less 'ew' people in the room. That seemed sensible-ish.
She smiled more awkwardly than before. "I'm sure you look good in lots of colours." Emily could definitely appreciate visual appeal, and fashion at times but she liked to think that attraction was less superficial than that.
Emily took a few moments to process, then took a deeper breath and turned back to face Skye directly. "If you're heading in that direction, and I'm nearby I'll distract you, alright?" She smiled at the little afterthought. "I'm glad, they're actually really cool."

"Yeah...I definitely don't miss having to pick through the creeps. And sadly enough there are plenty of those running around those places." She smiled at the compliment, though her hair and lights couldn't get any brighter, so they stayed as they were.
Sure, Skye fished for that compliment, rather shamelessly, but hey, it counted. It'd been too long since she'd gotten a sincere compliment like that, and by this point she would take the ego boost wherever and however she needed to get it. "That depends on the situation, but I appreciate it. I'd say it's not worth the risk and just to duck and cover and we both haul ass right after," she suggested sincerely but with a smile.

Emily was taking regularly little pauses in thought to absentmindedly add to her sketch. She'd discovered a while ago that her art turned out much better when she stayed out of her own head and focused on something else. Whether that was a person, music or a movie turned on the background didn't really seem to matter too much, it gave better results.
Funny, Emily really hadn't expected to want to be friends with this person when she walked in here, but something about her personality and her emotional wavelength (So to speak) made being around her extremely stimulating.
She felt comfortable as the interaction went on. "I'm pretty good at reading situations on all sides, hair colour or no I'd know when to duck." She hesitated before deciding not to say anything too specific. "Hopefully that's not going to happen to you too much if we hang out though, I like to think I'm alright at picking situations that aren't super high stress."
After a beat or two she smirked. "And the ones that are are the fun kind of stress, like karaoke."

Skye didn't think that a simple wave would have lead to this; hell, when she came down here, she had every intention of being alone for a few hours, but here she was, and by no means was she complaining. This person just seemed to understand better than most, and right now she was clinging to that. But beyond that, she genuinely seemed pretty cool.
"Good. Though it normally doesn't happen all that often. Picking out low stress areas was something I had to be good at, so maybe that would be a good start when I start getting out more," she said with a grin. "Karaoke, I could actually go for. It's been too long since I've done something like that. And lord knows I need to start getting out more, and hang around in more than just my pajamas," she joked, giving another giggle.

It really was a super awesome feeling to pick up on others enjoying your company. As much as Emily might have bitched and moaned on the topic of her side effects, she did love parts of her power. Hell, she loved most of it almost all of the time, it was just the damn headaches.
"Well I'm glad it doesn't happen that long, I can certainly imagine it being a touch mortifying when it happens." It could always be worse, Emily could have a power that could directly embarrass her. Most of the time she just avoided those situations and topics.
"Don't worry if you're with me, we can avoid stressful areas before we get to them." It was actually really funny that the two of them had met, Emily was probably the idea person to take Skye out to have some fun, she could pick up on the girl's mood turning and attempt to keep her in a good way, or at least steer her away from those situations, failing even that she could move to Skye away from other people before she blinded them.
Really, an adapted might be better... Emily liked being around adapted individuals because of the lack of headaches. Although... They probably wouldn't have any idea of what was going on internally with Skye, so maybe she would be a good fit. It was sort of what nudged her towards counselling as a possible profession in the first place, she had insight that others just did not.
Another snort. "Why do you think I'm dressed in my awesome stylish clothes nerd attire?~" She put her pencil down and gazed at the sketch before turning back to Skye with a sly grin. "I figured I'd limit other student's exposure to my not so stylish Pjamas if I was going to be up this late 4 nights a week."

"It's definitely a shock, and I don't feel any less bad about it than I did when it first manifested. Even though I can't fully control it, the guilt is still there, ya know?" She shrugged. "So I just do my best to keep it as stable as I can."
Another smile. "Sounds like we'd make a good team then," she remarked. "Well, you see what I normally wear to bed," she joked. "Normally my style consists of jeans and hoods, but...to be honest I've sort of been wondering what if I made a change? Sort of a makeover. If I'm not the person I was, I might as well see what else might suit me. I don't know though." She shrugged, just spitballing ideas. It was late, and who knew if she was actually being serious.

Emily's feelings on her power and guilt were... Complex. On one hand she did sometimes feel like she was invading other's privacy and she'd once been mortified at her mother turning her room upside down after a spat and invading her privacy looking for non existent things. But on the other, it wasn't like she could help it! Why should she have to apologise for having a different sense others didn't.
Should someone with good eyesight apologise to people that had to wear glasses? Most people could work out feelings if they just put some work in... She just had a bit of an edge on most of them.
Emily glanced down again, a little sheepishly. "Yes, I understand."
Another playful smile tugged at her lips. "I suppose that's fair, your pyjama taste doesn't absolutely blow~"
Considering the whole style thing was always odd. Emily didn't really dress to impress others. She always had kind of done her own thing, and to be fair did have a couple of hang ups but most of them were related to familial opinions. Okay, so she did wear makeup but just because she wasn't too fashion concerned didn't mean that she was a crazy person.
"Maybe wait discover what kind of person you really are, then change into a style that you feel comfortable in." She paused, thinking over her next comment. "I think that given your situation you should worry most about making yourself feel comfortable, if your appearance bothers you change it into something that makes you smile when you look in the mirror. Honestly, the happiest people in the world are the ones that learn to love themselves first."
She was leaning a little towards Skye's side of the room now. "Trust me, I know what I'm talking about." she added with sincerity.
Why didn't she just tell Skye what her power was? It wasn't like she was the sort to judge her, and Skye almost literally wore her emotions on her sleeve already. How did she bring it up now though? And how did she excuse the covering it up?
Instead she cleared her throat and held out a sketch of a creature for Skye to examine "What do you think?"

"Heh, thanks. Not that I wanna be known for my taste in sleepwear, it's good to know it doesn't totally suck," she said with a giggle.
She sat and pondered, soaking in every word Emily said. "True. Part of me just wants to....experiment. Nothing like a piercing or a tattoo. Clothes are easy to change and hair always grows back, right?" she said with a thoughtful smile. "I wouldn't say it bothers me, I just...I don't know. I kinda just wanna see, if that makes any sense." She shrugged.
Then, Emily showed her what she'd been sketching, and Skye grinned from ear to ear. "Whoa! That's amazing," she breathed, looking at her. "Really, that's really good."
