The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Character
Personality: Tends to be quiet, more of a listener than a talker until his passions come up-- Music, mutant rights, and food gets him talking. It's at this point he gets animated. Sometimes coming off as arrogant or dismissive of other views. It isn't so much his being a dick as simple intensity of expression. For this reason, he can find it difficult to make a good first impression.
When he does make friends, he quickly becomes intensely loyal. While this makes for some very close friendships, it has bitten him on the ass more times than one. He has become somewhat more guarded, but is still a fast friend.
Ifreet is his chosen name, viewing William Hearron as a vestigial moniker of his human self. He borders on considering humans as Homo Inferior, and nonsense like mutant registration and anti-mutant violence do little to quell this nascent bigotry.
Hobbies/ Interests: Music, movies, board games (especially Backgammon), cooking
Job or part time job and description: Gig worker. Content writing, line cook
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Losing control of his powers.
Special talents: Excellent writer, passable dancer. Good singing voice, plays guitar (self taught). Excellent cook.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good. A champion of civil rights, especially those of mutants. Refuses to kill. Can't abide victimization.
Mutation description: Pyrokinesis. Fire springs seemingly out of nowhere only to dance the Sugarplum Fairy. Flames ripple across Ifreet's scalp. He grabs a red hot cast iron pan without a wince or blister. His eyes, normally a bright orange, flare up with very real flames whenever he uses his power. The greater the exertion, the higher the flames-- from a soft glow to raging flames.
Ifreet can create fire out of thin air. As long as he concentrates and keeps the flame in his line of sight, he can maintain a fire without fuel. Unless the fire finds fuel, it extinguishes as soon as he drops concentration or breaks eye contact. Of course, should it find fuel, the fire will burn until Ifreet squeezes those pyrokinetic muscles to damp it out.
He is completely immune to the effects of heat and flame. He doesn't sweat, but can get very uncomfortable at above freezing temperatures, say 44F (7C) and below, he's miserable. Winters in NYC suck. For the cause!
Strengths: Create and control fire anywhere within line-of-sight inside a 10 meter sphere (with Ifreet at the center). The fire can be created at a rate of one cubic meter per second at temperatures upwards of 2000 °F (1093 °C). Of course, after creation, the temperature is largely a matter of the environment in which it burns. Ifreet can concentrate to maintain a given temperature, but he'll be fighting physics. He can move fire as fast as he can run. Otherwise, about 15ft (5m) per second by will alone.
Immune to fire, heat. Never sweats from overheating.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Pyrokinesis takes concentration and physical exertion. If he overexerts himself, he gets headaches, fatigue, possibly passing out. Range is generally line of sight, about a cubic meter per second at maximum. He isn't exactly a living flamethrower. About 5 cubic feet is his cruising strength, which he can maintain for about 6 minutes. 6 cubic feet for 5 minutes, etc.
Any more than ten cubic feet of flame is seriously punishing, and he can do that for less than a minute before passing out. This includes subsequent fires spawned by his creation. This power can get easily out of hand if Ifreet isn't careful. This is also the case for broken eye contact. If he can't see a created flame that hasn't found fuel, it extinguishes. Obviously, if he passes out from over exertion, flames extinguish as well.
Again, this takes a serious amount of both concentration and strain. He can only work at full power for about a minute before he risks exhaustion. Fire is still fire-- needs oxygen, quenched by water, fire extinguishers. As long as he concentrates, the flame can burn without fuel.
His lack of sweat can be a tell for those who know him well. He doesn't sweat from heat, so a bead across the forehead is a pretty good indication that he's bluffing.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Average thirty-something. High alcohol tolerance.
Fighting Style: Been in a few fights and did alright. No formal training.

History Of Your Character
William was born in 1978 in the tech-sector town of Huntsville, Alabama. His family moved around the city a lot. He attended no fewer than five different schools until 1990, when they moved to a sheep farm in rural Delina, Tennessee.
This small, dark-skinned boy wasn’t well received. While he’d been bullied in the city, it was nothing like the near constant torment he suffered in the country. On 9/15/91 (age 13), during a particularly bad beating, his powers literally exploded into being. He incinerated everyone around him and half the school. It was chalked up as a freak gas explosion.
After 9/15/91, his family started moving around even more. In just a decade, they lived in Merritt Island, Florida; Superior, Colorado; and Tacoma & Seattle, Washington. After high school, he jumped right into college at Green River Community College. After that, he took a break before returning to Huntsville and graduating from University of Alabama in Huntsville with a double major in philosophy and political science in 2006. During this time, he taught himself to control what he now understood as his mutation. He learned to create images, ignite and extinguish flames at will.
It was in college he got seriously involved in politics, especially the emerging Mutant Rights movement. He has since become an active fixture in the movement; doing everything from writing radio spots, canvassing, cold-calling, and straight-up protesting. The movement is his passion and life these days. In 2015, he moved to New York to be closer to the epicenter of said movement. He supplements his politics with line cook work, and has become quite a passable cook.

Sample RP: Nights were always the worst. Midnight when he stared at his phone’s clock, watching the minutes crawl by without sleep. His dreams always took him back to 1992, or to some contrived other tragedy. Always losing control in his dreams. He’d eventually pass out, only to wake up an hour or so later, sweat steamed off of him like mist. He only ever sweated in his sleep.
Rest, again, out of the question, Ifreet got up, got dressed, and hit the street. Shook a Winston Light out of a short hardpack. It ignited seemingly on its own, and he inhaled deep. His eyes glowed brief and faint behind mirrored glasses. New York being New York, nobody really noticed. He stepped into the Gray’s Papaya on the corner, ordered a hot dog and some orange juice, and took it outside to eat on the hoof.
