Character
Personality: The reluctant hero that you don’t want to piss off.
Ren isn’t necessarily a people person but he always tries to be kind and personable. With things getting harder for mutants he doesn’t go out as much as he used to and has found himself trying to avoid being noticed. He used to love going out to the bar with a group of friends or the shop crew after a long day. Have a bit of whiskey, maybe be coerced into doing some karaoke, it was a fun time.
He has always been proud to be a mutant and has never been ashamed of his power. It takes more than pride though to stop the fear and suspicion from getting to him. He doesn’t have any obvious physical signs of being a mutant, but there’s always that question in the back of his head when he passes anybody on the street. Do they know? Can they tell? It shouldn’t bother him like it does and Ren is trying to work through that.
Even though he enjoys the thrill of a good fight Ren won’t go out of his way to have one and will avoid it whenever possible. However, when push comes to shove he will face confrontation head on and will often do so brutally. Sometimes there is just no way around it. Exception to that rule is defending those he cares about. That is the only time he will take a pre-emptive option.
Hobbies/ Interests:Yes, Ren really likes to make stuff with his hands, but that’s not the only things he likes
Bouldering/Free hand rock climbing. He gets to save money on rope and other gear, plus there’s very little risk if he actually falls.
Exercising and just staying fit in general.
Ren is always hungry and has grown to love food. Loves Italian and Hibachi cooking, and he is willing to try anything once.
Still likes to restore an old car every now again
Job or part time job and description: Ren works for his father as a mechanic in the family garage. Antari Auto. He’s good at it and does it enjoy fixing cars, but he misses owning his own store and building things for people to enjoy. He wants his own shop.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns:
-What's the point of his life? Sure he is content with how things are going, but he can't help but feel like he's wasting his potential. Could he, should he, be doing more to help others like him?
-Things underwater creep him out. If Ren can’t see the bottom he becomes uncomfortable.
-With the recent loss of his mother Ren is worried about the rest of his family. Especially his sister who is a part of the NYPD.
Special talents: Has the hands of a god!
Not really, but he is a very talented artist and wood/metal worker.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other:
Good
It's hard to be cynical and angry when you make things for other people. Ren can't help but smile whenever he sees a client's reaction to a reveal. They get to see and hold this idea that was only in their head until that moment. It's always a great moment that makes Ren happy.
He believes in the human race and can see the potential that it has. Yes it has the potential for great evil, but more so it has the potential to do wonderful and great things. Things are bad now, but if history is a sign of things to come then eventually things will get better.
Mutations
Mutation description:
Self-density Manipulation
Ren can manipulate how dense his body is at will. Adding more mass as he sees fit. Up to 10x more. This includes bone, muscle, skin, everything. He doesn't increase in size but will become heavier. He looks a bit more rigid when he becomes denser, but for the most part Ren looks normal. He accomplishes this by forcing cloned molecules into the empty spacing between existing ones. These new molecules are unstable and it takes some focus to prevent them from just breaking apart on their own.
Strengths:
-Can make his skin dense enough to withstand blade and bullets
-Can make his muscles more dense (denser muscles mean more muscle mass) to become many times stronger.
-Can also make his bones strong enough to take tremendous blows and weight before breaking.
Weight = How much Ren weighs Strength = How much Ren can bench press
Bone Strength = How much force a sudden, localized impact needs to break one of Ren’s bone (ex. A hammer hitting a shin)
Time Limit = How long Ren can comfortably stay at that density. He can push pass the listed time limit but not by much.
Density | Weight | Strength | Bone strength | Skin Density* | Time Limit |
x1 | 180lbs | 200lbs | 740lbs | 2g/cm3 | unlimited |
x2 | 360lbs | 400lbs | 1480lbs | 4g/cm3 | 2 hours |
x3 | 540lbs | 600lbs | 2220lbs | 6g/cm3 | 30 min |
x4 | 720lbs | 800lbs | 2960lbs | 8g/cm3 | 15 min |
x5 | 900lbs | 1000lbs | 3700lbs | 10g/cm3 | 7min |
x6 | 1080lbs | 1200lbs | 4440lbs | 12g/cm3 | 6min |
x7 | 1260lbs | 1400lbs | 5180lbs | 14g/cm3 | 5min |
x8 | 1440lbs | 1600lbs | 5920lbs | 16g/cm3 | 4min |
x9 | 1620lbs | 1800lbs | 6660lbs | 18g/cm3 | 3min |
x10 | 1800lbs | 2000lbs | 7400lbs | 20g/cm3 | 2min |
.
*Skin is a hard one to explain. It requires a lot more math so I’m going to do some hand waving and say the denser it gets the more metal like it becomes. At x2 not much has really changed, it’s like a thick leather. x4, x5 it’s becoming more like a hard plastic. x7, x8 it’s become like a light weight metal similar to aluminium or tin. At x10 we’re talking about heavy duty steel.
Weaknesses and Limitations:
The denser Ren becomes the more energy he burns through. If he's not careful he can actually starve to death if he stays to dense for too long.
-If he loses focus he will lose any density built up.
-Being able to weigh almost a ton can be handy in some situations but he also has to pay attention to what he’s standing on or he may end up breaking thing or falling through them.
-In an emergency Ren can snap to full density but it takes a lot more effort than letting it build up and it will only last for about 5 seconds and he will be completely drained after.
-It takes Ren 1 second to get to x2 his normal mass and 30 seconds to get up to x10
-x2 takes next to no effort for Ren to keep going. x3-x4 Ren can feel the drain on him but can keep it going for a good 10min x5 -x7 he has to really start focusing and can only keep that going for about 5min. x8-x10 really takes it's toll since he's burning through energy at x10 it's normal rate can only last 1 to 3 min.
-The damage he does take while more dense is more severe than if he was just normal.
Example: Ren foolishly tries to catch a falling bus, obviously he can’t do that, and if he tries his bones will shatter into dozens of pieces. A grip strong enough to break Ren’s skin won’t just bruise it and leave a few cuts. If there is enough pressure there the skin could break off in pieces, kinda like a clay pot shattering or an eggshell falling off a hard boiled egg.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities:
Ren is in great shape. He always spends a few days a week at the gym not necessarily because he needs to, but he likes how it makes him feel. Not to mention how it makes him look. He could make make himself just as strong or durable if he was 400lbs, but it's nice not having to rely on his power just to waddle around.
Fighting Style:
Self-taught. Simple, brutal and effective. Ren is the type of person that takes hit after hit and just keeps going. He doesn't like the idea of killing, but has zero qualms with breaking bones and tearing joints out of place.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons:
Ren can make his skin, bones, muscles, just about everything dense enough that he becomes bullet proof. So he can take a pretty good beating before he starts taking any real damage. Not to mention that he hits like a truck. This leads to leaving himself wide open and being a bit over confident on exactly how much he can handle. The denser he is the more energy he burns through so he tries to ends fights fast.
History Of Your Character
Ren was born into the Antari family. They were your stereotypical nuclear, American family. He had a father, mother and older sister. His father, Alwyn, was a hardworking auto mechanic that owned his own shop. While his mother, Adaline, worked nights at a nearby hospital as a nurse. There was actually some debate about his name. Adaline wanted to name him Aaron because she had always liked the name and, in her mind, it flowed with Antari. Alwyn, on the other hand, would not budge from Wren. It was Welsh for ruler, and he fully believed that his son was meant for great things. Alwyn argued that his beloved wife got to name their daughter so it was only right that he got to name their son. After many a fight poor Adaline finally admitted defeat. Under one condition. The W had to go. Ren would be strange a enough name as is. No need to give bullies any more ammo.
Despite his mother’s fears Ren did not find himself to be the victim of bullies while growing up. Admittedly his name was mocked once or twice, but what kid doesn’t go through that? His sister used to be called Liz the Lizard. She brought her pet Gekko in for show n tell one day and that’s all it took for her to go from sweet, little Elizabeth to Liz the Lizard, or Izzy Lizzy for short. Needless to say, she does not look back on the fourth grade with fond memories.
Ren remembers that it wasn’t uncommon for his father to be out late. Some times he had to work on a car that need a lot of work done, other nights he stayed out too late drinking with his buddies at the bar. Unfortunately Adaline still had to work those nights, so that left the kids to fend for themselves. They lived in suburbia so it’s not like it was a bad neighborhood or anything like that, but Ren could tell that his mother worried something might happen. It was until later that Ren realized, and appreciated, all the things his big sis did for him those nights.
Some of those nights their mom would forget, or maybe not have enough time to make dinner. So on when that happened little ten year old Elizabeth would make herself and Ren each a couple of PB&J’s, and they would build these amazing pillow forts around the TV. Maybe they weren’t as amazing as Ren remembers, but to six year old him they were pretty great. They would always put some old Godzilla film on the TV, lay in their fort and eat PB&J’s until bedtime. Once bedtime came Elizabeth would pull one of the ancient myths and legends books off of their mom’s bookshelf and read Ren the stories found within. When he looks back on it all, these are some of the best memories that Ren has of his childhood.
Even at a young age Ren loved to make things. He was always building castles and planes and whatever else he could imagine with Legos. He would tear apart whatever he could just to see if he could put it back together. Sometimes he was even successful at reassembling it. As Ren got older his father noticed that there was more than just curiosity in Ren. Alwyn realized that his son had a real talent for making things. So on his fifteenth birthday Ren got his own key to the auto shop. His father promised to teach him everything he knew about cars. It wasn’t long before they were building cars together from the ground up. It was while working on such a project that Ren discovered his powers.
A couple years had passed and Ren just passed his driver’s test. He was fit, attractive, captain of the soccer team, and just got his license. All he needed was a car and he would be king of the world. He practically begged his dad for a one. He wanted classic, american muscle in candy apple red. How could his dad not understand how much he needed this?
Alwyn was a good father and a mechanic of course he was going to give Ren a car. He wasn’t just going to hand it over though. Ren would have to earn it. So after making Ren sweat for a few weeks the old man took him to a junkyard. He let Ren pick out anything he wanted, as long as it couldn’t start. The more that was missing the more likely Alwyn was to get it. They were going to restore that car together and after it was done Ren would be free to have it.
Ren should have known his dad would do something like this. The man was a mechanic, of course he wouldn’t just get something off the lot. That made too much sense. His dad had to turn it into this father/son bonding experience. It wouldn’t be too bad though. Ren was able to find a 68’ Shelby Mustang. It may not have been at the top of his list, but it was still pretty awesome. Calling it a car right then may have been a stretch, since it was missing the engine, all four wheels, and laundry list of other things. Ren imagined the look on everyone’s faces as he pulled into the school and he couldn’t wait to get started.
It took six months to get everything put together and just so. The only thing left was to mount the engine and put on the wheels. This baby would be done by the end of the night as long as everything went smoothly. Which of course they didn’t. Instead the engine fell on Ren.
It was a weird chain of events. He was being careless and walking under the engine, which wasn’t balanced properly in the chains and Ren tripped on some random tool that didn’t get put away. Out of reflex he grabbed the engine for support and that’s when the entire thing shifted. Ren’s heart stopped as he realized what was about to happen. Some distant part of his brain was yelling at him to move, but he couldn’t. He was frozen in place watching this engine teeter closer and closer towards him and there was nothing he could do. Then it finally happened. Too much weight had shifted onto one of the chains and it snapped. Ren threw his hands up and to his surprise the engine stopped. It hurt like hell and it was heavier than anything he had lifted but Ren was able to push the engine off of him. He went to sit on a nearby stool but as soon as he sat in the the thing broke under his weight. Ren just stayed on the ground processing everything that just happened. He should be dead or at least very, very injured.
He was one of them. Ren was a..mutant. Neither him or his family knew what to do. His family feared he would be taken away and this was something that was way above anything they thought they would have to deal with as parents. Ren didn’t really understand what was happening to him or how to interact with his family so he decided it was best just to focus on himself. He started to experiment more and more.
After a time things fell back into their normal routine. Nobody ignored the fact that Ren had powers but it wasn't brought up all the time either. Not until their house was broken into.
As luck would have it Ren passed out on the couch that night and was startled awake by the sound of a window shattering. Ren wasn’t sure what happened until he saw a man dressed in all black crawl through a window. Ren wasted no time in making himself denser and rushed the man.
The robber didn’t even have time to look around before Ren was on top of him. Ren was furious that this man would think that this was okay. That he came into this house with who knows what in mind. Ren beat this man to within an inch of his life. Partly because of fear, anger, and adrenaline but also because he didn’t have the best control of his power yet. By the time his father got downstair with a bat the intruder was broken, bloody and knocked out. His sister was right behind and Ren could see both awe and a bit of fear when she looked at him. She gave a weak laugh and tried to break the tension with a joke. “It’s like was have our own personal Cerberus.” Nobody laughed.
Alwyn was shocked at the damage Ren did, but quickly recovered and call the police. He covered for his son saying that he defended himself with the bat. The would be robber didn’t die but he spent three weeks in a coma from the amount of damage he took. The man had prior assault charges and they police didn’t look to far into it, so the self-defense plea held up, but the entire situation was just too much. Alwyn sat Ren down and finally had a long talk about what needed to happen from here on out.
Ren was not allowed to use his powers. They were simply too dangerous and hard to control. Using them would only cause more grief for the family down the line. Ren quickly agreed. He himself was amazed and scared with how easy it was for him to beat that man. At least at first he was concerned by how much damage he had done, but he saved his family didn’t he? He also didn’t kill the man.
This line of thinking eventually led to Ren becoming a vigilante. At the age of 18 he for some reason thought to put the weight of the world on his shoulders. He had no idea what that meant or what it would come of it. At first he just stopped a few purse snatchers, a couple of peeping toms, and even some muggings. Each one ended with Ren being to brutal. He broke the legs of the purse snatchers, both hands of the toms, and just flat out beat the muggers to a pulp. It had gotten so bad that the police were now looking for a serial attacker.
This lasted for months, but Ren was careful. He wore a gloves, loose dark clothing and even a mask. The only rumors going around was a name. When his sister called him Cerberus it stuck with him and now that name was starting to spread. Yeah he was wanted by the police now too, but he was doing good.
One night Ren snuck back into his house, through his bedroom window and was surprised to see his dad waiting for him. Ren hesitated a moment and then took off his mask. He could already tell that this wasn’t going to be good. He braced himself for the shouting match that was about to happen, but the yelling never came. Instead all Alwyn did was stand up and toss a folder at his son. Ren looked inside and was confused. He found plane tickets to LA and everything he needed to attend UCLA. He had gotten the acceptance letter last month but this had been a point of tension between Ren and his father for sometime now.
Ren was a gifted mechanic, but he wanted to do more than just work at his father’s shop. His old man thought that he would be wasting his gift if he walked away. Ren just looked at Alwyn not quite understanding what was happening. Alwyn finally spoke. “You’re leaving tomorrow and you’re not coming back.”
Ren shook his head “What are you..?”
“You don’t get it, do you?!” An edge had come into Alwyn’s voice “You think I haven’t noticed you sneaking off to beat random people within an inch of their life? That I haven’t heard the rumors of ‘Cerberus’? You’re a wanted man now Ren!”
Ren tried to say something. He wanted to defend himself, his father didn’t understand what he did but Alwyn was shouting now. “You’re not doing good. Our neighbors are terrified that they or their friends will be next. And what happens when you’re finally caught? You will go to prison and not only will your life be ruined but so will mine, and your mothers and your sisters. The shop would never see business again with your reputation and who knows what type of danger you have put us in. So, yes, you are leaving tomorrow and I never want to hear from you again.”
That was that Ren left New York to have a clean start in California. He was furious, but he also knew that his father was right. His mom and sister stayed in touch with him, which helped his transition. Alwyn never attempted to get a hold him though. His exilement to UCLA was shocking but once he got used to college life he loved it.
He learned woodworking and proper drawing. He fell in love with using metal and building things. He had access to just about any machinery he could think of and was able to build whatever he dreamed. It didn’t take him long to realize that he wanted to make things for a living. So he took a couple business classes along with his other classes and opened a custom shop right out of school in the middle of LA four years later.
Clockwork Forge had a slow start. Ren was great with wood and metal so he started with those then as his pieces started to sell more and more and his clientele grew he hired more people with a different skills. Some skillsets over lapping here and there and eventually the Clockwork Forge could produce just about any item you needed.
Ren had kept his business open for almost 4 years before he had to move back home. His father finally reached out to him, but it wasn’t with good news. His mother was sick and she wanted to see Ren before she died. The doctors found the cancer to late and she only had a few weeks left.
On her deathbed Elizabeth forced Alwyn and Ren to promise that they would settle their differences. It wasn’t until after the funeral that they were able to. Ren sold his shop back in LA and bought a place close to his sister’s. He was impressed to find out that she made detective while he was away. It also made him realize that he should have kept in better contact with her. They would have plenty of time to catch up. Especially since he would be working for his dad again. It was tense at first, but after they awkwardly apologized to each other things went back to how they use to be.
So that brings us to today. Ren is back living in New York working for his dad. He likes the garage but he misses his shop and hopes to open another one soon. He has a good relationship with his sister and is doing his best to stay out of trouble. He doesn’t want a repeat of the past. Especially since it seems like the city is cracking down on mutants.

Ren put his tools down on the workbench in front of him and let out a sigh. He couldn't get this piece of metal to do what he wanted, and it was starting to frustrate him. Maybe if he took a step back and spent some time away from the project he could come back with fresh eyes and finally get it right. Ren debated for a moment if he wanted to do a quick climb or go for a short walk. After a moment of thought he slipped his coat on and walked out into the rainy city.
Not quite sure where he wanted to go Ren let his feet take him wherever while his mind wandered trying to figure out how to solve his metal problem. After twenty or so minutes he just stopped thinking about it. There really wasn’t a rush to finish the project and he was sure the answer would come to him in time. He was starting to become thoroughly soaked and it was probably time that he started heading back. Now where was he?
He had zoned out while walking and didn’t realize how far he walked. Ren looked around and was surprised to find himself on a paved pathway surround by trees. After a confused moment he realized he had wandered into the park. He also realized that the sun was well on it’s way to going down. That meant curfew wasn’t to far off. He used to love walking through the park at night, but now with those damned tin heads walking around even something a simple as that had become too great a risk. Not to mention he had become soaked from the constant drizzle.
With reluctance Ren turned around and started walking home. Maybe he would call it an early night and just relax. Lounging on the couch for a bit sounded nice and it had been far too long since he had taken a night off. He had to make it home fast though. The street lights were starting to come on and they sidewalks were all but empty. He checked his watch and sure enough it was past curfew. Things may be good between him and his father now but his father still didn’t fully trust him going out at night. He was only a few blocks from home and patrols didn’t come around until a bit later. He didn’t have to run but it would be better to be safe than sorry so Ren took a quick shortcut down an alleyway.
At least it was suppose to be a shortcut. When he was halfway through he noticed a man coming from the opposite direction. ’He’s probably on his way home just like you are. No need to worry.’ To be on the safe side Ren started to make himself denser as the man drew closer. Ren was trying to convince himself that he was overreacting when he noticed footsteps splashing through a puddle behind him as well. ’Just three people needing a short cut, taking the same exact alley, right?’ Ren sighed and shook his head. He wasn’t that naive. He knew a mugging when he saw one. Ren stopped where he was and put his hands up in surrender.
“Guys, I’m sorry to disappoint ya, but I only have 12 bucks on me.” Ren nodded towards a nearby dumpster. “I’ll leave it here on top of this, and we can all go our separate ways. Sound good?”
Without stopping the man in front of Ren spoke up. “You catch on quick. That sounds good n’all, but that fancy watch is telling me a different story.”
Ren shook his end. He was not going to hand over his father’s watch. “I’m tellin ya this isn’t worth it. We all have better places to be right now. Besides who knows when the META’s are going to show?”
Ren heard a few quick footsteps behind him and turned just in time to take a blow to the gut. He barely felt it. The attacker thought he was being clever by trying to take Ren down when he wasn’t paying attention, but all he wound up doing was hurting himself. Ren just shook his head out of annoyance and hit the man with a quick jab to the chin. A certain sense of satisfaction washed over Ren as he watched his assailant crumple to the ground, knocked out cold.
“I told you guys this isn’t..” Ren turned around as he spoke and then stopped mid thought when he saw a barrel pointed at him.
“Come on asshole, just put your stuff on the ground and I won’t have to use this.” The mugger waved his gun a bit as he talked.
Ren wasn’t sure if he should be angry or even more annoyed. If they had just taken the money when he offered it then he would be stepping into his apartment right about now, and they would have been able to move on to more lucrative victims. Instead they had to attack him and now there was a good chance he was about to get shot.
The man cocked the gun “I’m not going to tell you again.”
Ren just rolled his eyes and made sure he was dense enough to take a bullet. Then without warning he rushed the gunman closing the fifteen feet between them in a moment. The stranger was only able to squeeze off a single shot before Ren ripped the gun out of his hand and tossed it behind him. Ren then grabbed the man’s hand and squeezed until he felt the bones crack under his grip. Ren let go and the man fell to his knees screaming from the intense pain coming from his now shattered hand. Ren had to stop himself from doing any more damage. He had taken care of the problem no need to go further. Ren took a deep breath and didn’t say anything as he walked away. He wanted to be gone before anyone showed up to investigate.
Finally home Ren stripped his jacket off and walked into the bathroom to check himself over. . It didn’t take long to find a hole in his shirt and the bruise that was already starting to develop underneath. It was probably going to hurt in the morning, but he would worry about that when the time came. For now he needed some food and some sleep.
