CharacterPersonality: Normally, Kayla is a nice girl who won't hesitate to make sure her friends are okay, both physically and emotionally. However, when personal issues begin to plague her, Kayla has a bad habit of masking her true emotions. She is deceptive in this way by acting happy when she is sad, and acting mad when she's content.
Due to her past experiences with her step-father and his neglectful family, Kayla has severe difficulties growing close to people on an intimate level, and when she does she will often keep them at a minimum safe distance. Such is the case with Jack Holister, her newly adopted father. Kayla finds comfort in friendship-but anything beyond that encroaches upon a line that Kayla has drawn for her own safety.
Hobbies/ Interests: Kayla is an avid gamer, with her favorite genre being first-person-shooters. She also loves playing soccer, and especially proficient at being a goalie.
Job or part time job and description: Student
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Arachnophobia (fear of spiders)

MoralityGood/ bad/ neutral/ other: Neutral. Kayla strongly dislikes rudeness, arrogance, and ignorance. Having been exposed to all three on a regular basis around humans, she has come to hold a lingering grudge against them and while she does not hate humans, she strongly dislikes them for their nature. Kayla is in favor of mutant leadership over the human populace, but has concerns about using violence to achieve this end.
MutationsMutation description: Kayla's mutation allows her to manipulate vectors. Upon activation, she can cause a person or object to switch directions and travel at its original force and velocity. For example, if a rock is thrown at Kayla, she can activate her mutation and cause the rock to travel in any direction she desires, and that rock will travel with the same force and speed it had when it was travelling towards her. The object or person affected does not about-face or turn to face the direction Kayla dictates.
Strengths: - Newton's Second Law of Physics: Force is equivalent to mass multiplied by acceleration. In regards to Kayla's power, this means the faster an object moves, and the heavier it is, the greater its overall force will be. Kayla specializes in using this resulting force against her target by redirecting it in any direction she pleases.
- Multiple Objects: She can use this power on multiple things at one time, but must be able to see everything she is affecting.
Weaknesses and Limitations: - Inertia Restriction: Kayla cannot force an object into motion. In order for an object to move along a path she dictates, it must already be in motion.
- Rapid Use: Rapid use of her power causes her experience severe vertigo in two stages, with the first stage of it kicking in at seven consecutive uses. The two stages are called "Active," and "Passive."
Active: If Kayla continues using her power while experiencing active vertigo, she will begin to vomit uncontrollably until finally passing out.
Passive: Once she has recovered from active vertigo, she moves into the second stage: passive. Under passive vertigo, she does not experience any illness, but any use of her mutation will send her back into active vertigo.
It takes five to seven minutes to recover from "active," and an additional five minutes to recover from "passive." After recovering from passive vertigo, Kayla regains her seven available activations, and can use them without difficulty before the cycle repeats. Sleeping will cause the cycle to reset and grants her all seven of her activations upon waking up. Affecting multiple objects at one time is done in a single activation of her mutation, and does not consume more than one of her seven available activations.
- Constant Eye Contact: Kayla must be able to see the person or object she is affecting. If an object is moving too fast for Kayla to visually keep track of, she will not be able to affect that object with her mutation.
- State of Matter: The state and given mass of an object has a profound effect on Kayla's power efficiency.
Solids: Any solid object up to 650 lbs. will be affected by Kayla's power without difficulty. Upwards of this, Kayla's power will gradually loose its influence over the target up until not having any effect at 912 lbs.
Liquids: Objects of a liquid or fluid state will experience less of an influence when targeted, due to the less compressed nature of the molecules within the object.
Gasses: Targets comprised of air or gas will experience even less of an influence than objects of a liquid state. In this state, Kayla's power will have almost no effect, due to the scattered molecules of the target.
The target must possess a physical mass in order to be affected by Kayla's mutation.
Physical AbilitiesGeneral Physical Capabilities: Kayla is slightly more fit than most girls her age, due to her love of playing soccer. When she's not out on the field or inside playing video games, she is outside keeping herself in shape.
Fighting Style: Prioritizes speed over strength, and uses her powers in combination with basic kicks and punches.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: In a confrontation, Kayla typically relies on her mutation to redirect harm away from her. If this fails, she can easily be overpowered by her opponent, but her mutation typically gives her a decent period of "fight-immunity" before it causes her to experience severe vertigo.
History Of Your CharacterDiscrimination is a painful subject to deal with, in any given form. For Kayla, this discrimination originated from her own family. After her biological mother married her step-father and passed away, Kayla became the only living member of her biological family. Trapped in a house with people who would go out of their way to exclude her from family-based activities, Kayla became isolated and reclusive-so much so that she gave up on all of her extracurricular activities and confined herself to her bedroom.
For a while, it seemed as though Kayla's destiny was to live and die alone, in that room, with no one to care for her. However, this perception changed when her step-father entered her bedroom one night with his children in tow and ordered her to sleep in the attic, so that he could turn her bedroom into a personal office. Kayla refused to move. Her enraged step-father lunged towards her, fist drawn back in a striking position...and the next thing she knew, his fist was six inches deep inside of a wall on the opposite side of the room.
Heartbroken and terrified of her step-father, Kayla ran away from her apathetic step-family and lived on the streets for twelve days before being found by a wealthy businessman. In Albany on assignment from his company, the businessman stumbled across Kayla while she was pan-handling outside of a local bakery. After finding out about her past and her newly discovered mutant trait, the businessman took the necessary steps to adopt her as his daughter, and after moving to New York City with him, Kayla would come to find out that the buisnessman was a mutant by the name of Jack Hollister, and that he knew of a school where she could learn to reconcile with her newfound mutant identity.

Sample RP:Kayla sighed as her mother drove along the interstate. It wasn't bad enough they had to move all the way across the country from San Fransisco, California to Albany, New York; they had to do it while all of the electronics were packed up in a box on the moving truck. "Mom, couldn't I have at least brought my phone with me? No offense, but this whole trip is just...really boring."
"Nope," her mother, Natalie, said with a mischievous smirk. "I thought this ride to our new home would give you and me a chance to talk without any...distractions."
"Talk about what?" Kayla asked, raising a brow.
"Us. Where you and me are going, how things are going to be when we get to your new step-father's house. You're about to be a big sister, Kayla, and me? Well, I'm going to be a wife again. That's a lot for the both of us to take in," Natalie replied. "And, while it might not last very long, it's still something I think we should both prepare ourselves for."
Kayla shifted uncomfortably in her seat. The thought of babysitting a bunch of little kids didn't sit well with her. The thought of having to get used to yet another father-figure in her life didn't either. He would be the fourth, a successor to two boyfriends and her biological father, David. "I'm still not really behind the whole idea of us moving across the country, away from everything we've ever known. Why take that big of a step if this might not even work out?"
Natalie shook her head. "No. You've misunderstood me sweetie. Your new step father, and his family...they'll work out just fine. I'm saying it might not last very long because...," she began to say, when all of a sudden, she began coughing violently onto the steering wheel. "Well, let's just say this move is more for you than it is for me. I want to make sure you have a decent place to grow up-somewhere you can finish out your teenage years and grow into the amazing young woman I know you will be."
Kayla shook her head at this. "I had a place, with you, back home in San Fransisco. That was where I was comfortable, and that was where I saw myself growing up. Moving all the way to New York just tears all of that down for me, mom." Taking out an iPod, Kayla showed her the smuggled device and returned her earlier smirk. "Guess you forgot to pack this, huh?"
Watching her daughter crank up the volume on the iPod and forcibly end the conversation at hand, Natalie shook her head and turned her attention back to the road. "Be careful, baby girl. You never know what you have until its...," she says before coughing repeatedly once again. Finally regaining her composure, she looked up at the clouds over the horizon and let out a long, exasperated sigh. "... until it's gone."
