Character Personality: April is a bit of handful for friends and family to deal with. She’s a very passionate, strong willed individual who believes in honesty and staying true to your feelings. Due to her upbringing, she’s not afraid to be quite boisterous in social situations, being quite forthcoming with her opinion and never apologising for voicing something that needs to be said to somebody else. April likes to see the beauty in other people, and isn’t afraid to comment on it, and pursue people that she takes a fancy too. Wanting everyone around her to have fun, whether that’s light hearted partying or hanging our getting a laugh with friends, or something considerably more competitive with them. She has an innate desire to compete with others, and raise herself to new heights that is constantly pushing her, despite her urges to have fun. She’s not naïve or egotistical enough to believe that she IS better than everyone, or that she’s not got room for improvement, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t take pride in where she is now. Though she is very flirtatious, April doesn’t tend to form lasting romantic bonds with others, feeling a distinct apprehension towards them. She makes a very conscious effort to try new things, and not many of them stick as hobbies. Job or part time job and description: April is a full time Emergency medical technician. Fears/ phobias/ concerns: April has a fear that she will one day activate her mutation accidentally and cause problems for people around her, leading to injuries she doesn’t need on her conscience. More personally, she has some issues with commitment to other people, never having sustained a relationship beyond a couple of months. Special talents: Martial Arts, advanced medical training and weapons/firearms training. Morality Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good. April was raised to believe that there was good in most people on the planet, and that nobody was born inherently evil. She grew up around people doing things to help people, and wanted to contribute something significant to that. While she likes to see the best in people, she also isn’t afraid of standing up to those who cause nothing but problems, and people who openly exercise violence and try to harm others will give April little cause for hesitation when it comes to hitting back. Mutations Mutation description: Flame generation: April’s power allows her to generate flames across the entirety of her body, just an inch or so above the surface of her skin, while they are attached to her body she has the capability to control them to a degree, and form them into simple compacted shapes, like spheres. She can then release the flames into the environment, or throw them if they are shaped. However, once they are released she has no control over them whatsoever, and they simply behave like regular fire would. April’s fire burns at a temperature of 1200 Degrees Celsius, about the same as most Methanol flames, and much like methanol flames April’s fire burns blue whilst it’s attached to her body. Since there is no fuel being burnt the flames attached to her body don’t give off smoke, at least until they make contact with something else flammable. Flame resistant physiology: April’s body has properties akin to asbestos. (Minus the toxicity), she has more resistance to heat sources that are close to her, and her body is much harder to set on fire than a regular human being. She doesn’t burn nearly as easily, it either takes a much longer continues exposure, or an extreme, uncommon level of heat. Strengths: -Though the default is her entire body, April has learned to limit the fire to small areas, like simply her hands. -April has the ability to generate a lot of fire quite quickly, so innately has a lot of destructive potential. -Her skin can resist any kind of a thermal burn, be it a liquid, steam or a metal that is at a high temperature.
Weaknesses and Limitations: -April can only maintain her power for about a 20 minute period before it completely exhausts her, and the flames burn themselves out, needing at least a couple hours rest before she tries to produce flame again. -April’s flame is a complete combustion similar to that of a methanol fire, produced from her own body, whilst she doesn’t produce Co2 outside of her body, the chemical reaction of activating her power causes her to produce more internal Co2. This extra Co2 is then breathed out normally, and as a result, as she approaches her time limit, she begins to feel the effects of Co2 poisoning. -April can only compact the flame into small contained shapes, like spheres, cubes and the like. And none of these can be larger than a foot (Soccer)-ball. -She can throw a fireball about 40 feet once it’s solidly formed, as they aren’t as aerodynamic as something like a tennis ball. -Obviously fire consumes oxygen to burn, so obviously in low oxygen environments, this can be detrimental to April or people around her, if she’s consuming oxygen for her flames. -April’s power actively burns calories when she uses it, as a result of this she has to take in an increased amount whenever she’s been making use of her flame generation. -Using her power dehydrates her body at an increased rate, if she uses up her full duration more than once without supplanting the lost water with at least a litre more, she will likely pass out in short order. -April has no resistance to any other kinds of burns. E.g. Chemical, Electrical, radiation, cold, ect. -April feels the cold more than others, being very susceptible to powers which can lower the temperature to the extreme, she also finds it harder to generate flames in this condition. Her weakness to cold starts to kick in once it drops below 0 degrees Celsius (32F) she rapidly starts to drop her body temperature, and will quickly feel the effects of moderate hypothermia, even if she’s relatively well wrapped up. In these temperatures April has to wear heavy duty thermals to avoid poor health. -While April has resistance to flames and heat themselves, she has zero protection against things they interact with, like smoke created when it connects with things other than herself, and is just as susceptible to these things as any regular human. Physical Abilities General Physical Capabilities: April is fairly athletic, she has above average upper body strength for a female in her prime, and is fairly flexible. She works out at least once or twice a week to keep up with her fitness. Fighting Style: Fighting with a mixture of self-defence and marine corps hand to hand and firearms training, she’s kept up with it as much as she can and as a result she’s fairly capable when it comes to throwing a punch, and disarming assailants, as well as being a relatively competent shot with a rifle, or sidearm. In very rare situations, she might use her power to try and ward off assailants, especially if nothing else proves effective in the case of mutant assailants, but she is very hesitant to do so. Fighting Style Pros/Cons: -Well trained, good at quickly incapacitating targets. -Good at dealing with moving targets when equipped with a firearm, and a fairly good throw if she’s letting lose a fireball -Against a male with similar capabilities, she would likely lose due to an inherent disadvantage in upper body strength -While she’s reasonably good at giving out hits, and avoiding them she’s not massively durable, and can’t take a huge amount of punishment. History Of Your Character April Leigh was born to Brooke and Johnathan Leigh in Portland, Oregon. Being the youngest of 7 siblings, as well as the only girl of the bunch. Her parents met on the police force in Portland, and her mother retired to raise the kids, having inherited a fairly large house from her Grandmother, whilst her father kept on working his way up the line, constantly trying to make time for his family. Growing up with so many brothers gave April a strong drive to be the best, as well as having much more aggressive and blunt tendencies than other girls she grew. Her brothers, by in large ended up going into the same profession as their parents one by one, continuing a long running family tradition on their Father’s side of joining the force. As she went into her teenage years, she both grew a little closer to her mother and became more aware of herself. By the time she was 15, 5 brothers were in various positions or in training, while the 6th, only being a year older than her was much more like April and her mother, ending up going into theatre school instead. This prompted April to reconsider her options for the future, given that she’d always assumed she’d end up working as a cop. As a teenager both her and one of her brother’s manifested mutations, her brother having an enhanced conditioning powered by sunlight, and April having discovered a high resistance to high temperatures and burning. This occurred when her and some friends were messing around after getting a few drinks in them at a campfire, and she picked up a log from the upper end without thinking, not receiving any burns. At first she thought this was pretty useless, but over time she came to appreciate it as a little quirk about herself. April worked extremely hard to be the top of her class, and ended up graduating early with extra credits, going on to do a bachelor’s course from the age of 17, entering a military sponsored medical education, culminating in her completing her training and beginning service for the marines as a Navy Medical Corpsman, continuing until she was around 24. During her time as a Medical Corpsman, she distinguished herself by treating grievously wounded marines effectively with a cool head, and eventually reached the rank of Petty Officer, Second class. One day however, she was out on deployed from the base she was working at on a medical aid mission, where they came across a roadside IED, and had their vehicle damaged, on top of that the stress and surprise of the situation, in addition to an injury April received herself activated her primary mutation, causing fire to coat and spread out from her skin, setting fire to a lot of their equipment and giving one of her group second degree burns. They ultimately all survived the encounter, all with some scrapes and wounds, however April continued to manifest flames in situations she didn’t want to accidentally, and as she couldn’t control her power and was a liability she was discharged from duty. She was referred to a mutation expert in Portland, and spent some time with her family, getting a more reasonable of control with her power. While she isn’t an expert by any means in using her power, April didn’t cause accidents with it anymore, and spent her time doing some supplementary training so that she could work as an EMT. She spent her free time mostly with her mother, rediscovering herself and making a conscious effort to go out and have more fun in her life. At the end of the that year, her mother decided it was time for a change of pace, so she moved in with her elder brother working at a theatre in New York and after a couple of weeks landed a job working as an EMT, as of May 2017 she’s been working there for 3 months, reasonably comfortable with the city, but still having plenty to learn and looking to make new friends and meet new people. Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Via Shin a long long time ago ^-^ Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Serena, Emily and their AV counterparts~ Sample RP: A yawn escaped the woman’s mouth as she sat at the table, a steaming cup of coffee being placed right in front of her, black and fresh from the pot. She picked up the poorly insulated cup immediately and took a long drink of scolding coffee, only shuddering slightly at the bitterness of it, it’d been a while since she’d regularly drank it. A chuckle escaped an effeminate male who sat across from her, just after he’d deposited her coffee he’d poured his own. “I can’t believe you can’t d eal with coffee, wimp.” He teased, before taking a sip of his own coffee and recoiling much more intensely than she had, from the heat. She burst into her own fit of giggles. “Can’t believe you can’t deal with coffee, hun,” She chirped musically. He went and grabbed a glass of cold water and quickly downed it to soothe his tongue. Turning back around to a wide smirk on his little sister’s lips. “You doin’ okay over there, Danny?” Her voice contained more than a pinch of sarcasm in it. Her comment was quickly followed by a cushion from the coach connecting with her face. She rocked back in the chair a little and managed to end up on the ground, instead of complaining or yelling though the Collision was met with another fit of happy laughter. She grabbed the pillow and flung it back at her brother much harder, causing a grunt to escape him as the wind was partially knocked out of him She snickered before finishing her coffee and smiling at her dainty brother. “You might be cuter than me sweetie, but my throwing arm is just a lil’ bit stronger.” April hummed. He made a few grumbling noises before she got up and went to the counter. “You made the coffee, so I s’pose I’ll make breakfast.” He made a sound akin to gagging. She stuck her tongue out at him over her shoulder and proceeded to horribly burn soldiers and eggs before the two of them set off for work.
