The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

A long night held restless thoughts as Fade tossed and turned in her bed. It was weird to not be surrounded by a length of emptiness like her last home, just a bed in the middle of no where. The gentle tapping on her window from an outside branch did not rid her mind of her racing thoughts. Every tap seemed like a second ticking by on the clock, reminding her of how long she had been in the same position, urging her to flip over once more only to repeat the routine every few seconds. Her eyes were heavy, but they would not shut. The night mocked her as it continued to filter through her window, this was the hour of sleep, and why couldn't she sleep?
Finally frustrated beyond help from her bed, the red head got up and ran her fingers through her hair. One thing she had missed from her journeys was cable and the living room sounded amazing at the moment. She was wearing her usual pajamas: her leopard print pants and just a black cami. Growling at her insomnia, she slipped on some socks and grabbed the glass of water on her night stand. Slowly, her feet dragged across the floor as she made her way to the highly rich-looking stairs and walked down them, grasping tightly to the banister in fear that she'd fall asleep before she reached the bottom.
No one was in the room, perfect welcoming committee. She set down her glass and grabbed the remote before attempting to make sense out of the odd markings. Sad that she hadn't had that much experience with remote controls. People that have had a home their entire lives have no clue what advantages they have over the homeless. Hitting the red button, the TV turned on and she flipped individually through the channels using the buttons with obvious arrows. Down. Down. Down. Down, wait...up, nope the news. Down. Down. Down, she clicked through the channels through the cartoons, news, and paid programming. If only they had an Insomnia Channel, her night would be complete.

Streak was pulling another all nighter in the War Room. Watching and keeping all your friends, most of whom you could consider family, safe was a daunting task and one that would never take a break. Although there wasn't anything stirring on the screens. Not even the usual rodents or feral animals were rustling around. It was a bit odd but he didn't care at this point. He was feeling pretty confident that he could leave for the moment to get some things to keep him awake. Since the night was so boring, he was having a hard time actually staying awake. Streak grabbed his phone, forwarded the calls and alerts that might show up, and he headed out of the War Room and into the kitchen.
On his way there he heard the TV running and flipping channels. I wonder who that could be at this hour. He walked into the living room to see who it was that was flipping through channels. As he entered the room he saw a very attractive girl wearing what looked like her pajamas flipping through the channels. "Hey there." He said to her. "What ya doin up this late? Can't sleep?" Streak walked over to her and sat down in the chair closest to her.
No, no, not interested, full of it, nothing was ever on! As she continued to flip through the channels, she pulled her legs onto the couch and sort of sprawled out, making herself at home. Her elbow was bent and folded underneath her head so she could watch the screen right side up. Just as she set herself up into the perfect position, footsteps echoed down the hall and Fade looked up to see another Mansion dweller enter the room. Would there ever be a time when she ran into someone she knew and remembered?
He spoke to her as he sat down on a nearby chair. Well, speaking to someone would definitely be more interesting than watching stupid TV. "You know, I absolutely love to sleep, it's just the falling asleep part that bores me. So I just stay up until I pass out, much less boring that way," she smiled before turning down the volume on the TV and putting down the remote. "What's your excuse?"

"Ya getting there's always the annoying part." Streak agreed with her. Streak thought for a moment. There were so many options he could take this. He could always go with the classics like: 'Well I was out fighting crime and got bored with beating creeps to a pulp so I came back here.' Or 'I have a regularly scheduled interrupted sleep routine and you just happened to catch me on one of those regularly scheduled wanderings.' Or one that he'd told a few times, 'I usually spend the nights wandering around the mansion because I don't sleep.' All these thoughts came through his head and he threw them out just as soon as they came into his head.
Finally he decided to go with the truth. Besides what does it matter if he's on the clock right now. There aren't even animals walking around outside. "Well I usually take the night shift for the security; which means that I spend the night in the War Room staring at the computer monitors. But since there's nothing going on I decided to take a trip around the mansion. I don't sleep much." He thought it was good enough for now. But there would be more questions as they continued to converse and more answers to follow. "What's yer name? Where'd ya come from?" Streak said to her. She didn't seem to be the least bit shy about things and also had a sense of humor. The latter would probably make the rest of the night interesting.
A pause, for a moment, but only a moment before he spoke up. A security man, eh? It had never really occurred to her that there would be someone up watching the monitors all night long and she began to wonder if the cameras could see heat as well, to keep any invisible enemies...or friends...at bay. "So you're like the Mansion bouncer?" she joked, but actually it could be interpretted as a serious question... or it was purely ridiculous just like Fade's sentences tended to come across.
Next came the common question she had run across: who the hell was she? A mental sigh travelled through her head, but it did not bother her too much. There had been a time where she would ask everyone the same identity question. "Name's Fade. I was here a while ago, but I've been on...unexpected leave..." there was really no word to describe her absence, well, other than the word absense... "for about a year now. It sure has changed a lot. But I was once an X-Man, and hope I still have that honor, I've just had to settle in here first, and figure out just how many things have changed," alright, Fade, he asked for a name and a hometown, not a resume. "And what can I call you, Mansion Bouncer?"

Streak listened to her as she explained a little more than what he'd asked for. Personally that was fine with him but he got the feeling that she was hiding something about why she had actually left, especially the way she paused. He laughed a little. "That's NMr. Head Mansion Bouncer to you little lady." Streak said smirking a bit more. He then continued, "I've never heard it put quite like that but ya that's basically what I do. Although I just mainly look for people that want to surprise us and do harm to the kids staying here. I'm called Streak. Short for Silver Streak."
Shawn put that thought aside before he wanted to act on that decision. "You used to be an Xmen huh?" Streak said reiterating that fact. "I can almost guarantee ya that you'll still have a spot on the team. I'm more like a Jack of all Trades here at the mansion." He seemed to be willing to give more than she asked for also. However, how could you talk to a former Xman without letting them know that you were one of the people in charge of recruiting the new Xmen. "I'm also now one of the Xmen recruiters here at the mansion. So If ya want I can set up another "trial" for ya so that you can get back into the swing of things with the rest of the team. Tell me more 'bout yourself." Streak said relaxing more in the chair.
"Right then, Mr. Head Mansion Bouncer, my mistake sir," she bowed her head, holding a smile to let him know it was all in good humor. This was much better than watching TV. A feeling of relief gently kissed her blood when she heard that she was nearly garuantee'ed a spot on the X-Men team yet again. It was good to hear that she was allowed to come back and pick up where she left off. "Fantastic, I'd love to be back on the team. Seems like I don't really know anyone on the team anymore though, so I'm going to have to get to know everyone."
He asked her to tell him more about her. Well, where to start? Start with the kidnapping? Start with the homeless era? Start with the last time she was at the Mansion? "My mutation includes invisibility and phasing. I can turn myself and other people and items invisible, not too many of course, and I can phase through things, but I can't phase other people or items through things. I kinda look like that one superhero...um... Spiderman? cause my claws phase through walls and allow me to climb walls and ceilings like a spider, except less hairy," she added. "I left after everyone was taken to the camps and I was unable to help my team or help the man I had fallen in love with, so I've spent the past year gathering things back together. But I'm back now, and it feels amazing to be back." She thought about telling him that her real name was Jenny, but it really had become irrelevant since no one called her Jenny anyways, unless they were a cop that pulled up her old record... that has not had and offenses for the past three years.

"Well that explains why I don't remember seeing ya round here. I was here only a little while before I was taken to the camps. Man am I glad to be out of there." He said to her. He was a little disappointed to hear that she was in love with someone. Of course he was happy just talking with her instead of sitting staring at the computer screens. Although he couldn't help but wonder if perhaps she was still in love with this person and that she came back here looking for him. Maybe that was a question that was better saved for some other time after they got to know each other better. Definitely not something that Streak thought was appropriate for a first meeting. "It's great to have you back here. I'm sure you'll be a great addition back on the team. What was your main job on the X-Men team? I bet ya were the best at reconnaissance missions." Streak said keeping the smile on his face. He started to think of all the now possible missions that they could successfully pull off now that she was here.
"Well it sure is a good thing that yer not hairy. Otherwise I might have had to go get some sheers." He said to her. "So have ya found everything you've been looking for or are ya still searching for it?" Streak asked her randomly. It started to sound like they were getting a little personal with the questions. However, she could ask him whatever she wanted basically and he would probably not go any farther than that with the personal questions. Streak didn't want to start getting to personal here. He always thought there was a fine line that you walked whenever you were meeting someone for the first time. Fortunately he'd started this one out the right way and she felt comfortable enough with him to share quite a few things. He also felt comfortable talking with her. His mind began to wander to how long they were going to spend talking. Streak was of course not getting bored but he was sure that he liked talking to her.
"I planned training and testing sessions in the Danger Room with Deathstar and Tricity to see who could become an X-Man," she smiled, thinking about the olden days when she got to sit up in the ever-revered glass box and watch people down there. "And yeah, I did get the priviledge of running ahead of everyone and searching out things. Though there are some mutants that can sense me, and that's never fun to run into," she frowned, remembering the first Haywire attack. A small breath and the frown went away though, she could never frown for too long, it takes more muscle strength and it was too late at night anyways...
"I wouldn't leave a red head and come back a dog, hygiene was still important, don't fret. I didn't really find anything. Turns out I wasn't looking for what I thought I was. I was looking for home, or who ever made me feel at home, who was Raph, but this is really my home. And it's not just the people here, it's the idea of what we stand for, to put it in Lame Girl's terms," she added with a chuckle. "Plus, you guys have cable. Didn't have that in my quest." Realizing that she had no idea what he could do, she turned the questions table on him and began. "So then what can you do?"

Fade had some interesting answers for him. They seemed vague but they also told him a lot about her. "It seems like Sam and I took yall's job then. Ever since the camps we've basically been doing that. And Neena's taken her leave of absence so we've had to fill in quite a few big shoes." Streak told her. Streak chuckled, "Ya cable's the only reason I stay here." He said rolling his eyes and ignored the fact that he didn't have time to watch much TV. Her next he was ready for. In fact he was wondering when this question was going to come up, and even a little surprise it didn't come sooner in their conversation.
"I can cover my body in silver and create things from that silver. Also, lately, I've had blades come out of my body so that I don't need to create as many weapons; though I still do create the weapons. I can also fly. You didn't think these eyes are just to enhance my good looks do you?" He asked sarcastically smiling and winking one eye quickly.
Seems like him and this Sam character did take over her job, but someone had to do it while she was gone. After all, can't depend on a person who isn't there. It did make her think about Deathstar's role in the X-Men, did she have a role anymore? It didn't seem like Streak and Sam had to fight very much for the role. No matter, this was the here and now and she was not Deathstar. One thing did strike her odd though: Neena. Neena took a leave of absense? What does he mean by that?
"Well Neena was just really a helping hand, a big one at that. Isn't Tricity still running the school?" It was a question she had actually asked many other people, but no one seemed to answer it. Had the school be handed over to Neena? Why couldn't Tricity do it anymore? Man, a lot had changed. I wish I'd never left she mentally grumbled to herself.
"Silver, huh? I bet you give werewolves a run for their money," she joked, partially, if there were mutants, why couldn't there be werewolves? Well, there certainly had been a werewolf-like mutant, but did those kind of mutants really need to be killed by silver. Interesting thought.

“Tricity is still running the school and the team.” Streak said hoping to put her mind at ease. Apparently this news had made her a little distraught. He didn’t mean to confuse her or anything like that but he was just informing her of the current situation at the mansion. “Most of the big changes happened after we escaped from the camps. So we mainly took over because there was no one else here that was qualified to do the jobs.” Streak explained to her.
Streak chuckled and replied. “Ya there’s one here, or at least I think she’s still here, who really doesn’t like me because of the silver. Her mutation is werewolf-ish in nature.” He looked at her thoughtfully for a minute or two before continuing. Invisibility. The possibilities seemed endless. “So what are you doing up? Have a nightmare? Or is it just one of those nights where ya can’t seem to fall asleep?” Streak was starting to wonder if this was a common occurrence or if he just happened to get lucky with meeting her tonight. Cause if it was a common thing, he could get used to these conversations.
Fade was pleased to hear that Tricity had not disappeared. Hmph, there were quite a few things she had to re-educated herself on. That wasn't a fun punishment, but she deserved it. When he mentioned that there was a werewolf at the mansion, she began to laugh. "Really? I was just kidding," she smiled, trying to repress her smile. She did not want to be rude. She wasn't trying to insult the were...thing, but it was a little ironic and she had to notice it.
"I'm a late owl, never liked getting up early. Only thing is, when you stay up really late, you realize that no one else really does. So either I lay in bed bored out of my mind until I can't keep my eyes open anymore, or I just walk around, watch TV, play...hopskotch? I don't know, anything that floats my boat," she shrugged, now thinking about how much fun she would have if she did have a boat. "I'd say the coolest power for a night owl, is being able to walk into other people's dreams. Now that would make staying up a lot more interesting," she smirked. "Do you usually work late?"

Streak couldn't help but laugh when Fade did. It was a little ironic that she brought that up and there just happened to be one living here at the same time. He then listened to her as she went on to explain the fact that she was normally a night owl. "I know what ya mean. I hate getting up early." He said putting his two sense in before she continued talking. He couldn't stop himself. He burst out laughing for a short time. He was finally able to regain his composure, still laughing a little, he said, "Hopscotch? I haven't played or even seen anyone play hopscotch since elementary school." Streak continued to regain his composure before moving on in their conversation.
"It really would." Streak agreed. "Unfortunately neither of us can do that, so we're stuck whittling away the hours until we fall asleep." Was it a little apropos? Maybe. But he didn't really care, he was focused on having a great conversation with an attractive girl. "Ya I work the nights a lot. 'Cause it gives me time to think about the past day or two. It also helps me plan my errands for the next day. I never seem to sleep more than a few hours every day. I don't get the normal amount of sleep like every one else does. However; I still like to sleep in whenever I can." Streak explained to her. He considered himself a complicated night person. Especially when it came to sleeping but he was doing his best to explain it to her. He hoped their conversation would continue. Streak was enjoying it so much more than sitting in front of the monitors.
Glad that she could make him laugh, she kinda squished her face, remembering the hopskotch days. "Well, hopscotch used to be my favorite game..." she paused, wow, how immature, so say hopscotch? Out of all of her options? Trying to make it sound like she wasn't really that easily amused, she quickly painted over her words and said "well, I dunno, just being random." Too late, it made him laugh, who cared where she came up with the idea...?
As he began explaining his sleep tendencies, her eyebrow raised a little as she attempted to decode what he meant. It seemed like the Mansion attracted non-normal-sleepers, then again, it was full of non-normal-people. If only sleep could be injected into the bloodstream. "So far, I don't have anything to report to in the morning, so I really have no reason to wake up early, sleeping in gets boring though. It's funny how much more time there is in the day when you don't sleep. Then again, if I don't sleep, I'll fall asleep sitting down, not always fun," she laughed again.
