The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It took her a couple of minutes to calm everything down and relax again, she smiled at Bailey when he offered her popcorn, she still had her eyes closed but the familiar rustle of the popcorn along with the movement of his arm was more than enough for her to put two and two together. She listened to the silly commercials that went on and on before the trailers for other films would start.
Her smile deepened a little at his concern. "Mhmm. I will be in a sec." She stayed like that for a bit, and tun sat up a little, her head still gently resting on his shoulder. "Still not used to my power turning on and off depending on how close I am to you, being in a room full of people and having it turn on and off is a little stressful sometimes." she responded, wanting to give him a clear understanding.
She perked up a little bit when the commercials ended, taking nibbles of her popcorn. Emily was fairly skinny. She wasn't unhealthily so, but just tittering on that edge. It wasn't because of image or anything, she didn't give a flying crap about most of that. She just didn't generally have a big appetite. In most normal situations anyway.
If she'd been drinking for example, she could eat more than her share of fast food in the blink of an eye. She smiled as the trailers began, still leaning her shoulder gently on Bailey, not minding the contact much.

Emily let out a very quiet, sigh of complete exasperation and frustration. She really really really wished that if one thing was different about her power, it was an off switch. She picked up on the quiet reflective and contemplative mix of emotions going on in the other girl. Emily wasn't quite sure what was causing it though. She could generally guess, but people's thoughts were more complex than their emotions by a country mile. Emotions were primal and driven, simple and obvious.
It could well have been thoughts of home, or other people she'd met on nights like this one, or even the movie they'd been kind of watching reminded her of something. It was again, very hard to discern. She sighed again, quietly.
She smiled slightly at memories of her dad. "My dad used to bring back wine for my mum, then while she was getting plastered go out to the store, and come back with a new game for us to play while Mum slept it off." She mused thoughtfully.
She grimaced. Emily didn't like talking about her power. She wasn't ashamed, but people didn't react to empathy all that favourably, and she didn't just have to deal with sodden expressions, she had to deal with the judgmental emotions. "A pain in the ass." She replied, pronouncing ass with the distinctive English twist, coming out more like 'Arse'

Emily of course, had made sure she'd picked a time when nobody else was meant to be here. One of the school counselors had said that she should indulge more in her artistic hobbies. She'd found a time, and on here way down to the classroom had checked if it was free (It was the weekend, after all) And had booked it on the spot before she went down to the room.
She felt him coming way before he actually got there. She felt his consciousness flicker towards her when he entered, she didn't seem to be his immediate focus. When he entered at least, she sat, frowning at her canvas, thinking about what she was going to add to it for a few moments.
She did her best to ignore his presence standing behind her, contemplative was how she'd describe it. When he commented on her painting she just sighed, continued to ignore him and reapplied her brush to her canvas, a little less relaxed and focused before.

Emily grinned as his stunned reaction. Damn, she was good. The cinema quickly and quietly turned back into a normal level of activity and attention. A few people occasionally glanced up at the two of them, Emily noted. She wondered why they were still glancing at her and Bailey.
She chuckled at Bailey's awkward stammered reaction, he really was bad with physical contact. She smiled at the thought of their first meeting and how hard she threw him off of his balance, metaphorically and literally once she found out what he'd thought and worked out the situation. He was pretty unique as far as people went, and she didn't mean that in the way that he had an adaptation, he was cool as a person. If oblivious as a freaking plank.
It took a few moments for the reasons for the staring to dawn on her, once she picked up on the emotions that often went with the glances it made her feel uncomfortable. It was almost all guys, and maybe a girl or two. But they were all teenagers, probably around her age group. And they were feeling some kind of attraction that made her entirely uncomfortable. She settled further back against her seat, drawing herself in.
Scanning the rest of the room there was a very uncomfortable tension between the two men who they'd harassed. Emily let out a little sigh as the commercials started and people started to get distracted and quietly converse, she leaned closer to Bailey, gently pressing her shoulder to his and taking solace in his bubble of no emotions. She shut her eyes for a few moments.

Emily was very amused by the whole situation, it was mean but then again, sometimes she was like that. She was smiling broadly at Bailey, and then shifted away from him a little bit in the seat. Her power clicked back on, accompanied by a wince as it hit her like a sack of bricks. She'd need to hang out with Bailey more often to get used to that feeling.
She felt the guy coming up before she saw him, a ball of anger rolling it's way up the stairs between the levels of seats. There were a few other people in the cinema screens, all in small groups of three or four, their heads turned, and a few pointed as the angry man child got to the top of the cinema. Emily scanned their emotions, glanced straight past him as if he wasn't interesting when he confronted Bailey and got a feel for his alleged boyfriend.
She felt the sides of her lips tug up into a smirk, the man wasn't concentrating on her, he'd practically ignored her presence in fact. She glanced at Bailey and gave him a meaningful smile before brushing off her facial expressions, pulling it back to neutral and uninterested. She stood from her chair, dusted herself off and cleared her throat, the angry individual spun his head quickly at her.
He wasn't very good at controlling his temper, that much was obvious. And he was tittering on the edge of violence. Emily wasn't observing his body language all that much, it was more just a sense she got from her power and using it on a great deal of people with anger issues. She didn't noticed the slight shakes in his posture, or his hands slowly balling into fists.
His expression faltered, he'd been about to spit something at her, but it was as if he'd barely taken note of her, or not even considered the possibility that it could have been her to throw the popcorn. That irked her on some minor level like misogyny always did.
"I was the one to throw the popcorn, you testosterone fueled idiot." There may or may have not been stronger words in between those last two. "And before you start something you should consider a few things."
The man barely had time to respond. People's brains didn't even stop to consider some things, on top of that everything operated less smoothly when you were angry. "Firstly, the only person who has embarrassed your boyfriend, is you. Right now he's going through a mixture of that, and a little fear at how aggressive you are over a piece of freaking popcorn." She supplied, obviously feigned sympathy in her tone.
"Secondly, if you go for my boyfriend, I'll step in. I'm not particularly strong, but I know where to go for an asshole that'll hurt. On top of that, there are people here to keep rowdy customers out. Whom do you think they'll side with, the angry unreasonably man that an entire theater just saw stand up, roll their ass up the staircase, and then threaten an innocent teenage girl. Or, us?" She replied, once again with disinterest.
"Or, you could reconsider and go and apologise to your boyfriend for getting so angry about it, and freaking him out, maybe mend things before they get any further." She growled, venom dripping in her voice.
The man looked as if he'd been physically slapped. He was more shocked and confused than angry now, she could tell that much. A few other people were standing, looking cautiously over at them, they were out of earshot though, and as a result it probably looked fairly one sided in their favour. She fought off a smile.
It was another few moments before it settled down. She flopped back into her seat with a sigh, leaning over to give Bailey a kiss on the cheek and smirking. "You're welcome buddy."

Emily snuggled happily into the seat until she was comfortable, leaning near Bailey and feeling his field wash over her power, nullifying it in an instant. It was a bit of a shock and her skin felt like it had goosebumps, but quickly she found herself relaxing, the strain of all of the annoying people bustling around her, inconsiderately feeling all of those pesky emotions was made silent by his unique ability.
She glanced at Bailey, as he picked up the popcorn and glanced down at the people a few levels below them a mischievous grin tugged at her lips, but they were in public. It wouldn't do to get thrown out before the movie started. "Bailey." Her voice low and her slender fingers gripped his arm, as he threw and it hit the man though she slid her hand over her mouth and stifled a loud giggle.
She glanced up at his face, her eyes sparkling with a mischievous light and pleasure. "That wasn't very nice~" She murmured insincerely.

Bailey was being stubborn. She was right of course, shopping bags had been invented for a reason. They made it easy to carry a large quantity of differing sizes of bought goods, without dropping or ruining them. Though admittedly, most people that went to see a movie in the cinema didn't buy enough sweets and popcorn to need one.
She felt a large, smug smirk colour her facial expression and nudged Bailey's arm playfully. "Of course I'm right dummy."
Off peak indeed, after they had gotten their tickets checked over and been directed towards the cinema screen they swiftly found their ways inside, luckily it wasn't very busy at all. They found a fairly nice place to sit down and Emily smiled, leaning down into the chair and sighing contently.
There were enough people that were tense and excited to make her uncomfortable, she winced as she thought about it, and then leaned in closer to him visibly, taking a second or two before chirping in a low tone. "I wonder if it'll stay this quiet."

Emily paused as Bailey stacked up everything in his arms and started to walk past, letting out a hearty, deep laugh. "Bailey, you look like a new waiter who has bitten off WAY more than he can chew." She had a hard time keeping the laugh out of her voice. She turned back to the counter and gave her most radiant smile to the guy that Bailey had bought the sweets from. "Could I get bag for him please?" The man behind the counter couldn't be much older, maybe early 20's at the most? A student.
He tossed over the bag and she set the drinks on the counter for a moment, lightening Bailey's load severely and draping the plastic bag over one arm, a playful smirk dancing a cross her expression. "There, now at least you can see where you're going." She commented, gesturing with her arm in the direction of the screens, after glancing at her ticket.
"Screen 12." She playfully punched Bailey in the arm, without much force. It was a gesture of affection more than anything else. Then grabbed her drink and balanced his between her arm and her chest. "Lets go and grab some seats." God damn, this was probably an easiest way to carry everything given how much Bailey had picked up, but a drink with ice in it being held against your body was coooold.
You ever have your friend do something so adorable and embarrassing at the same time that you aren't sure whether to laugh, or facepalm? That's how Emily felt when Bailey with her blessing, went and got most of the selection available at the counter. Her lips were tugging into a teasing grin. "Ahem, are you following the can't go wrong with enough variety approach, Bailey?" She asked with her eyebrow quirked.
She chuckled and went and grabbed each of them a large Coke from the cashier. It was Pepsi, not coke as the Cashier sarcastically informed her. Emily gleaned some satisfaction from the realisation that the person was not enjoying being near the person working next to them very much, despite the rudeness. So she wasn't above being petty.
They'd gone for small drinks, but it was an extra 0.20 to get a large with their tickets, so it wasn't really a big deal. She grabbed the drinks and turned to snort a giggle out and nearly drop the drinks when she saw how much Bailey was carrying. "You need a waiter tray or something?" She asked, her voice dripping with a playful sarcastic note.

Emily grinned at Bailey as the two of them walked towards the counter and waited in the queue. Candy, sugar. Bless him. "Hell yes, I'll get the drinks, you get the snacks?" She offered with a wide grin. "I'll trust your judgement on the sugary snacks." She winked. The cinema tended to be a very fun place to be in her experience, you seldom got people here who weren't having very much fun. It cost so much more these days that it was often only people who really wanted to go that went.
She grinned in response. So Bailey wasn't a baby with movies? Good. It wasn't fun if the person with you couldn't enjoy them either. Still. It might have been fun to tease Bailey and see how far she could make him blush. Maybe she'd do that anyway. Hmmmm.
"I like Horror movies a lot, but they've been a little overwhelming since my power activated for the first time. In the cinema at least." She responded, glancing at the queue that was advancing. Two cashiers, cool. They could get their stuff twice as fast. "What would you like to drink?"

Emily's face lit up when she saw Bailey approaching, she pulled the headphones down to rest on her shoulders. Her hands gently clasped each other behind her back as he got up to her, she offered him a wide and pleasing smile. "That's okay Bailey, you showed up. That's what matters." She soothed.
The brunette was gently rocking on her heels back and forth, very lightly swaying as she spoke to him. "Popcorn sounds good, maybe a small drink too." She hopped up from the position she'd been half-leaning on and immediately dragged him over to the snacks area to get said food and drink before they went to any of the screens. She flashed him a playful smile. "So how are you with horror in the cinema?" She queried.
Emily watched Bailey's face and stood just outside of his proximity so her power was still active.
Emily stood gently tapping her foot, she was leaning against a pillar, backlit by a bunch of faintly lit posters. It was a reasonably late time in the evening, but the cinema wasn't all that busy, she wasn't being bothered and she had plenty of personal space to herself. She had a love hate relationship with cinemas. She certainly loved the movie going experience there on the big screen.
On the other hand though, when you could feel the emotions of 200 other people in the same room as you, it tended to cause a headache. She was barely able to contain her excitement today though, because she was going to watch a horror movie minus the horror. Kind of. Normally, if she went to watch one on her own or with friends it was a particularly harrowing experience because she was kind of rubbed off on by all of the fear in the theater with her.
This time however, she'd be with her friend Bailey. He was kind of cute and awkward, but she had taken a serious liking to him. He was honest, friendly and fairly innocent. And on top of that he was an adapted. Which meant ultimately, if she went to a theater with him, she'd just be feeling her own emotions. Nobody else's. She started rocking gently on her heals, humming to herself.
She had over-ear headphones on and was playing some fairly loud music to try and drown out all of the emotions surrounding her. She was wearing a stylish designer black leather jacket over a black dress, embroided with the name of the band Evanescence. She had done her hair, and was wearing slightly more make up than usual, topped off with black leather boots that came up about half way up her legs.
She'd taken to texting Bailey quite a lot over the holidays and had hung out with him once or twice in social settings with events going on and the like, but not very much just the two of them. She glanced down at the thin watch on her wrist.

Emily had just had another one of those 'fun' conversations with her mother over the phone, asking if she'd met any boys recently, asking if her grades had improved any. It was annoying. Emily may have then also gotten the conversation more heated by using non-PG language with her mother when her temper had flared up and resulted in their conversation ending in hangup. Emily winced as she did it, she knew it would result in more trouble later.
To clear her head, she gathered a printed off Polaroid of her little shrine in the dorm. It was a corner with a pair of guitars and a base, a small amplifier and a few books with sheet music among other things, trinkets and photographs. It was one part mess, one part artsy and all chaotic. She pulled the picture out of her desk drawer and smiled at it. She didn't feel like sitting in here and sketching it. It felt too cramped.
She set off down to one of the classrooms that wasn't in use, and pulled a few paint pots from the cupboard, set up a fresh canvas and propped up the painting near the edge of the stand. She sighed, pulled on a pair of over ear headphones and started working on it. Emily wasn't an artistic prodigy by any means and she wasn't revolutionary either. Most of the time she preferred sketching, but painting was relaxing with music.
Her work turned out to be vary colourful and exaggerated, she lost track of time as she sat with a few brushes, applying them to the canvas gingerly.

As Bailey stammered through his answer, Emily found that the general area of the answer became more clear, her eyebrow remained quirked. A mischievous smile threatening to tug at the corners of her lips. "You thought I was 'well uh' what?" She asked, doing her best to keep a teasing tone out of her voice.
As he finished answering her reaction and demeanor just melted away. "You... Wha-" Her response was cut off by a bout of heaving laughter. It went on for a good minute or doubling over and clutching her sides as she laughed. It wasn't quite what she'd been expecting, but it was MUCH funnier.
It was another minute or so before she was able to catch her breath and curb the laughter, she felt a little dizzy from the whole ordeal, and bent forwards to pluck the water from Bailey's grip and take a long drink. Before snorting out a few more chortles of laughter. "Time of the month.." She stammered as she stifled another chuckle.
Now that she'd fully recovered her breath, her lips were spread in quite a large smile. She leaned in near Bailey and helped him straighten out, brushing some of the dust off of him and promptly looping her arm around his. "Well, now that I know nothing is wrong with me and I'm not dying or anything, lets continue with the shopping. I'll just get my Mum a scarf or something. Might be fun to get my dad some new video games."

The other girl didn't seem too insistent or annoying, she looked to be around the same age group too. Emily supposed that she'd to for someone to chat with, most of the mansion's students got on her nerves but there were exceptions to everything. She tried for a more sincere smile in the face of Victoria.
Emily nodded her head gently at Victoria. She could definitely emphasize with that, she hadn't really spoken to all that many students around the mansion. Sure, she had classes with some of them. And a few people chatted to her, a few guys even tried to hit on her. But she could tell what pretty much all of them were feeling so she generally didn't like them. Teenagers were nasty creatures.
"Erm, nearly a year now. Doesn't feel like very long though." She admitted.
Emily nodded. "I've heard of it, I think my dad went there on business trips once or twice, and I've moved around a little bit. I already lived in the US for a while before I moved to the mansion. You know, powers and all."
