The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Emily titled her head at the direction that the voice and emotions were coming from. She'd been almost sure that it had been one of the guys with invisibility messing around again, she'd had more than one issue with some of them. Damn teenagers. It was good that the mansion was versed in dealing with troublesome teenagers, or she might have run into more problems with them. The girls were just as bad, truth be told.
"I wasn't scared." She replied promptly. "I assumed that you were on of the invisible kids buggering around again, they are some of the more annoying brats around here." she commented with more than a little prissiness.
Dream walker? What did that even mean? She was more than a little confused now. "Dream walker? How the hell does that work?" She queried. She was more than a little curious. She'd assumed that dream walking would be some kind of an astral thing, or moving into other people's dreams but this female presence seemed to actually have some kind of a physical presence, especially if it was busy making itself a sandwich.
She shook her head at the offer. The presence was definitely not malicious, so she didn't really have a problem interacting with it. If it had just been some person in the kitchen that had tried to talk to her she probably have told em to piss off. But this woman seemed timid if anything, and on top of that she was curious about the situation and how their powers were interacting in this manor. "You're more than just a dream, apparently." She was a little taken aback.
Emily actually made a conscious effort to smile at the dream presence. "It's alright, you don't need to be nervous or afraid, my bark is louder than my bite." She supplied.

Sleeping at the mansion was... a fun time. It had felt worse recently for some reason, late at night and not being able to stop her brain she just lay there feeling more and more aggressive towards the members of the dorms around her, being annoying teenagers and feeling all of their emotions so loudly. She grumbled about it, tossed and turned, tried doing music which also didn't work.
She climbed out of bed and pulled a pajama top on and a dressing gown. The dressing gown wasn't tied too loosely so she was wearing a pajama top that was a collage of old and famous horror movie posters, filled with classics like 'In space, no one can hear you scream', and the old nightmare on elm street posters. Topped off with what appeared to be a fake name tag that read 'I'm an innocent bystander.' The trousers were a similar style.
She decided that if sleep wasn't happening, she should maybe get tea and do some sketching, or see if there were any nerds she could scare by approaching and offering to play video games with them, most of them reacted quite badly to those kinds of suggestions and freaked out a bit, which gave her some measure of vindictive pleasure. Nobody had claimed that she was a particularly nice girl.
She strolled into the kitchen, planning on making herself a cup of tea before she scoured the mansion for her victim for the night before noting that someone had left out the ingredients for making some food. Wait, no that wasn't right. They were actually there, in the room with her.
She glared into the empty space that the presence was occupying. "If you're another invisible ass trying to creep me out, you can just come out right now, before I kick your ass." She pronounced it with a British flair so it was more of an 'Arse' than 'Ass.'

Emily chuckled at Victoria's comment, She didn't think a Zombie movie had so much as caused more than a jump or two since the first time she'd ever watched Rec. Now that had been a damn good Horror movie. She just thought that the British and American's didn't understand the genre anymore, she only ever seemed to get kicks out of weird independent and foreign horror films where the genre was concerned.
Emily watched quite a lot of movies come to think of it, she used morally dubious means for a lot of it but whatever. She could afford it, she was just a brat that way.
"Nah, this is fine. I don't scare very easily." Which was technically the truth, she freaked out a bit at horror movies, but that was more the heavy and oppressive emotional atmosphere.

Emily was once again taken aback by Leo. He was... he was a bit of a nerd. She wasn't too geeky herself, she was smarter than she let on to most people, true. But the only thing she was vaguely nerdy about was Psychology, with the possible exception of some video games. His outward and emotional reactions told her that he was a bit of a know it all, or at least she suspected he was. Whereas she behaved more like a rebel than anything.
She tilted her head slightly to one side, a little taken aback by the way that he'd spoken about the topic. "Broad concept narrow finish is probably the best way to go with this, shows the teachers we started broad, found an interesting topic with supporting research and focused down on it will probably get us more marks." She thought it through for a few moments and admitted that text books were probably better overall.
"While you might be right about the level of information, it's probably also smart to include some more independent resources like journals, the teachers at least eat that up, even if it's only a little." She could do with some extra brownie points for the next mix up, or a better reference when she applied for university.
She sighed and shook her head at him. "I don't hate your guts, I'm in a bunch of classes with hormonal one track minded guys with superpowers that think it makes them the coolest kids around." She supplied. "It's easier to live in new york assuming that most people are crap, and be pleasantly surprised when they are in fact, not."

Generally speaking, Emily was pretty good at avoiding toxic social situations or problems. She could feel most problems coming before they actually arrived, and duck her head or swerve around them appropriately. But nestled into Bailey's adapted field her power was obviously off, so she couldn't tell that people near them were getting annoyed as quickly as they were. She wasn't the best in the world with body language either.
Emily winced when the woman stood up and spun around with a furious expression. She hadn't really done anything, it was all Bailey. She'd been pretty focused on the movie. It hadn't really been a big scary film as the posters had suggested. Though normally, Emily would have been a little more wound up than she actually was. It was kind of awesome to get to experience a horror film without getting the backwash of emotions from everyone else in the room.
It now looked like that was at an end, which kind of sucked. But Emily didn't fancy getting kicked out, so they'd walk out under their own power instead and find something else to do.
She grabbed Bailey's hand and tugged him out of the chair, leading the two of them out of the cinema screen with a "Come on, lets get out of here." And shortly thereafter, they were standing outside in the lobby, Emily's fingers still on Bailey's.

Emily tried hard not to roll her eyes at the annoying teacher's reaction to her not speaking, she was after all trying to concentrate on what she was doing. His sarcastic comments were just great though, they managed to tick her off more than she already was. What was with this freaking school? It was so hard to find a corner with peace and quiet and when you did, even the teachers were assholes about it.
She took a few moments to compose herself and bat down the anger that was brewing before she actually responded to him, turning and giving him a deadpan glare. "I don't tend to make a habit out of stealing things, no." Her smooth Buckingham-shire accent quipped. "In fact, I was suggested to come to one of the art rooms and try engaging in the hobby multiple times by the mansion councilors, and was given permission forms for this purpose." She tried to keep her voice even, she really did, but it still came out a little contemptuous.
"And when I went to the front desk, I asked which classrooms weren't in use and would be quiet, I was pointed to and booked for this one, as well as encouraged to take supplies from the closet, which I was told were for anybody using it on pre arranged times, such as I was. My apologies if I've taken or used anything I shouldn't have." There was just a teeny bit of sarcasm in that last one.

Emily couldn't help but smile a little at the way that Leo reacted to her actions. There was something... flattering about people reacting to her in that way. She wasn't used to being treated like that. In his own way, he was actually more respectful to her than most of the adults around the mansion. God, that was a weird thought. He was cautious, that was better than outright twinges of fear.
If there were two emotions that Emily would consider to be 'gross' it was probably lust and fear, they always felt uncomfortable to her. So putting him at ease, even if he'd been a bit of a jerk earlier, was ultimately a good thing.
"Well..." She began. "The nature of the research means we should probably start with a broad model, and pick some research within it to talk about. I'd suggest something like Agency theory, because it's been mentioned before in class and I've at least heard of some interesting studies and stuff we could cover."
She gave him a slightly more sly smile. "Also for research text books are... I dunno, kiddy. I like to look at journals online~" She added.

Emily smiled over at Victoria. She could tell that she wasn't going to pry and thankfully she didn't. It felt faintly voyeuristic feeling emotions of those who didn't know it was happening, but at the same time Emily could just as well go without the reactions that went along with them going. When people freaked out and complained about the invasion of privacy.
Huh. She had a power of at least the same level of inconvenience as Emily's. Interesting. She titled her head at the other girl and smiled. She seemed so sweet, why was it that the nicer students seemed to end up with the nastier powers.
Emily glanced back at the T.V, keeping quiet and not commenting on Victoria's agreement. She should probably avoid conversation about mutations. For now, at least. If she got to know the girl a little better maybe...

Emily eyed the boy as he spoke to her in return, studying the emotions that were flowing out from him. Was he... He was definitely a little rebellious but, that was fear mixed in. Not an extreme amount of it, but there was a healthy level in there that she could only assume was a result of herself and her own actions. Hmm. She really wasn't used to anybody being scared of her, period.
She gazed at him steadily. "I don't. Shout." She replied in a low, prissy tone that carried her accent quite effectively. If there was one thing a good English accent could carry it was prissiness.
She didn't apologise, but she certainly didn't give him any more in the way of a verbal lashing. Her eyes followed his movements behind the book, with a venomous glare but she pulled out her laptop and opened a word document. And promptly dropped into the chair, keeping a close watch on his emotions.

Ugh.... He was such a Brat! Emily couldn't think of good words to send to convey how frustrated interacting with this Leo kid made her. She'd just turn up, and give him a piece of her mind, then they could actually get on with doing the project. She had her laptop with her, it seemed to be faster than a bunch of the school computers, it was just easier to do things on that.
She was wearing an open cardigan over her shirt so it was still visible, and skinny jeans that were 'artistically' torn in several places. She'd been in a relative rush so her hair was combed, but not styled or anything. She didn't care about stuff like that all that much anyway, if a Girl snorted or judged her in a corridor she'd probably just deck them and get into a bunch of trouble.
She'd recognised him now actually that she was walking into the library. Okay, so maybe she had judged a little too quickly. She pushed those thoughts aside and made it to the same area as he walked back to the table, she swung a chair out and dropped her bag next to it.
She leaned against the side of it, not actually sitting down and looked him up and down, more studying his body language than his body in itself. She also paid attention to his emotions. "Leo."

Emily actually started to drift for a bit after she sent the message, it was nice and relaxing. She couldn't actually get any rest or REM sleep though, she was interrupted when students started getting back from classes early and they interrupted her rest. She sat up a little and sighed, grabbing a drink from the water on the nightstand and trying to shake the sleepiness.
Her phone pinged again and she sighed. Her brow furrowed as she read it. Maybe she had judged him wrong. He wasn't entirely without a brain. But...
"A girl thing??" She repeated out loud angrily. She spent the next few minutes typing and retyping reply emails, her fingers furiously dancing across the screen, constantly pausing to delete and retype spelling mistakes. She growled in frustration and threw her phone to the other side of her bed and took a few moments to cool down. He was an ass, but she did need to get the work done.
She glanced at the mirror by the desk on one side of the room and saw that her hair was a large mess. She quickly jumped into the shower and spent a few minutes drying her hair off, slipping on an uncharted top that she'd gotten with the game when her and her dad played it. She finished getting dressed and hastily brushing her hair and then moved towards the library to meet the jerk.

Emily made her way back to her room and grabbed another asprin, swallowing it unceremoniously before flopping back on her bed spread eagled. She really got sick of the normal school classes some days. Half of the teachers were boring as anything, and over half of the students were really really annoying little brats. The mansion even had those weird American things... what were they again? Jocks. Shudder.
She felt herself starting to actually relax and dose before her phone beeped and she felt another little flash of 'Maybe one of them has replied!' before seeing that it was that Leo kid again...
"Oh." Her eyes narrowed as she read it. "Oh..." She re-read it again. "OH! you little jerk," She used a word stronger than jerk, "I'll give you a-" She grumbled as no word strong enough came to mind and began furiously replying instead.

To anybody else reading the partially censored message it would come across a little incoherent, however it made perfect sense in what Emily's mother had lovingly dubbed Bratanese.

Her first few classes of the day had just felt so... Pent up. Ugh. Sometimes the general mood in classes just reinforced each other, and they'd had a particularly boring lesson followed by the prospect of a research project, which normally Emily would relish because she could actually learn a thing or two on her terms, and excel. But it was a group project. Ew.
Nobody ever seemed to carry their weight, it was so annoying. She just hoped she didn't get teamed up with a dude, her classes were freaking insufferable. Teenagers had the most gross emotions.
She yawned and debated going to her dorm and taking slightly more asprin than was recommended. She had a free period, which was nice at least. Most people wouldn't be in their dorms, so she could get a few moments of respite from all of the other students and their stupid feelings. She walked towards her room as her phone chimed and she pulled it out quickly and excitidly, expecting a message back from her dad or Bailey (Whom she totally hadn't been messaging in class...)
Instead she was greeted with an email from her 'partner'. Greaaat. Her fingers danced across the touchscreen with uncanny practiced speed.

Emily smiled and just glanced over the comment about the werewolves. God, she'd hated those movies when she'd seen them. She remembered her Mum reading them, and her friends forcing her to try it and just being mildly revolted at the writing. They were just... Bad. She couldn't even hold it against the actors in the movie, having read the first couple of books the writing was actually just that bad.
Emily looked at him and flashed an amused smile. "Really?" She replied in a very low tone, no higher than most of the people speaking in the cinema. Emily braced herself and returned to the screen as it progressed. The man was murdered in a brutal and slow way. It was a little disconcerting to Emily, and extremely uncomfortable for the rest of the cinema, this was a little much this early. She saw one or two people get up and leave straight up.
It faded to black after a snuff film-esk display of gore and then shifted to a scene of what she assumed was the main character and her family. It was a college student being lectured about boys by her father in somewhat typical horror movie writing.

The movie's trailers took a little time to get through as usual, there were mostly thrillers and cheap horror movies on display, she found herself snorting and chuckling at a few of them. Muttering at one point. "I don't know why people still try horror movies with zombies, they're just not scary anymore. Like, I can't look at vampires without expecting them to freaking sparkle now."
Okay, so generic opening. That didn't mean the entire movie was a crapshoot. She smirked at it and turned to see Bailey doing the same, catching his eye for a few moments, sparkling with amusement.
The scene went on for a few moments like that, until it got closer to the man, and revealed that he was tied to a long wooden blank, bleeding all over, and with his mouth mangled by some kind of a blade. Not to get into too many gory details, but it looked more realistic than Emily had expected, she shifted in her seat slightly.
