The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"It is a school for mutants, like yourself, called Xavier's. They're where the X-Men tend to recruit from. I'd have to do some discussion with a few of my contacts there, particularly considering your circumstances, but they tend to ask fewer questions in that regard." Linely responded. It really was strange to have a 15 year old so excited about school.
"Running away is often a good option if you have it, but I would go for more vulnerable parts than the legs, particularly if it's a man chasing you. Not many guys can chase after someone after that I can tell you. Certain parts of the leg are vulnerable as well." She was very innocent still, despite her background.
"It's probably best that I make your training holistic though, as there will be times when even that won't work." Sometimes all you could really do was fight. It wasn't pretty but it had to be done.
((OOC: That's fine, take all the time you need, I was pretty busy recently as well )
And then an explosion. Linely heard the sound, felt the shockvwave blasting from either side of him. He saw the almost beautiful shower of powdered glass, thank goodness he'd been in cover. Then there was heat, but not really severe enough to cause Linely panic. Someone had known this mob fight was going to take place. Another group of mobsters perhaps? Then how did they get inside the dining room without being noticed? Aaybe the Italians had overlooked the power of C4?
Even for Mobsters, getting themselves killed by their own C4 was pretty stupid. Linely looked at the shattered remains of what used to be the Italian and Chinese men. It wasn't particularly pretty but crime never was. Linely was glad Emily didn't have to see this, if she had been in the vicinity... he dreaded to think what might have happened.
He could see pretty easily where the explosion had started, he was after all a Chemist by profession. The blast had emanated from where a table was... had been. The Mobsters didn't know about this, Linely suspected, but the forensics team could perhaps give a better idea.
There were several staff members outside, a couple of obvious mutants included. Figured. Mobsters weren't particularly bothered with who they hired given the actual business they conducted. Most of them looked pretty scared, others were in shock. Maybe they saw something? Often mutants had better senses than some humans after all.
"Hey there, Officer Linely, MRC." He addressed a green skinned fellow, who looked somewhat like a bigger, badder version of ET. Mutations could do all sorts he supposed. Still, this guy's mutation looked pretty darn extensive "It looks like my meal and your service have come to an unexpected end. How are you holding up?"
The extra police officers would certainly help , as Linely saw them in the distance. Morrison probably appreciated the help. The riot unit was going to be around soon, and that meant the mutants with the SERIOUS crowd control abilities. They'd thought about putting him in the Riot team at one point, but they figured single target disabling was probably better for plainclothes , high profile targeting.
The man was in a lot of pain, Mellitus was at least sorting out some basic medical care. The description was not surprising. Getting stabbed with a broken glass bottle would do that to you. The EMT would be required to properly sort things. The wailing of sirens shattered the sound of the crowd.
Mutants and humans alike were running out of the way of the ambulances, which were going at enough speed to encourage people to stay way, not enough speed to actually run them over. Getting static would be the problem, people tended to lose their mind in riots. Linely just hoped it wasn't one of those times.
"Mellitus we cannot let the rioters near enough to the EMT to cause trouble, I don't know who's on EMT duty this time, only one of them has the ability to deal with a riot trying to cause trouble, and she'd hit everyone within a pretty wide radius with nitrous oxide if she used her power." Linely just hoped it wouldn't come to that.
There it was, the obscure USB port nobody ever looked at. Easy to miss if you didn't know computers or have never used it before. One of those obscure drives that you forget exists. Computer games could sometimes cause you to use it, but otherwise it was pretty uncommon. Most people wouldn't even bother to check-it could be in that computer for ages and no-one would know it was there. Linely was glad he had worn gloves. Leather, difficult to leave fibers on, standard issue for police officers, a forensics team would have a job tracing it to anyone even if they did find it.
He plugged the damn thing in. The code on the computer did not change, a slight beep from a USB going in sounded. There were lots of USBs in this thing, nothing out of the ordinary. He turned and left-Roach would probably find some way of picking it up at a later date. He left the chamber closing the door behind him, while a rather panicked security guard ran up to him.
"Fire, outside the building..." Well-Linely could guess what that was, that bloody insect. "Let me go and check it out" , and so Linely ran through the security barriers outside, nobody bothered to stop him-there was a fire outside!
A dumpster. The fire was already going out. Stuff like that burned out quickly when they had no fuel to burn. The smoke had gone high, the flames had died down. The fire department wasn't needed, all it was was a bit of a startle for Greg when he'd noticed it. Linely ran to the dumpster, simply to see if he could make out what had happened. Looking at the smoldering embers, Linely thought he could just make out the husk of a small insect. A cockroach.
>> "But if you can find somewhere nearby I'd love to go back"
Xavier's was the obvious choice, they specialised in helping mutants like Rachel live their lives, they were also the source of the X-Men , who were definitely good people. "I have a few ideas, one in particular could help with your specific circumstances. But I'll need make contact." Honestly from a 15 year old girl, this was the most enthusiasm for school that Linely had ever seen.
Forsyth left , giving Rachel a nod and a "You're welcome" to her thankyou, he had to rush off pretty quick by the looks of things. Linely smiled and gave a polite wave as he went. Now more significant training could begin.
>> "What sort of hand to hand fighting do you know..."
"Primarily fencing thrusts and techniques, but I'm well trained in the baton and basic street fighting nowadays, I've had to learn given my profession. But rolling out of the way, quick advances, how to avoid getting grappled are my primary specialisms. Brute force has never really been my style either" Hopefully this would reassure her, simple techniques could save her life one day. "Obviously you don't have the benefits of my mutation, but most people don't need to make their opponent collapse. You just need to get away from danger for the most part."
While Spasm was probably going to avoid direct involvement with Utopia, there is certainly potential to salvage it with the current timeline. I'd be willing togive reactions fron the police as initiating posts. If that works for you of course. Ambrose was of course important to the plot but as I'm normally on I'm willing to help with making this plot advance any way I can.
Corruption was always amusing to have to deal with, and this was one of the more amusing cases. They were always so ridiculously arrogant, and this one Gerald Nelson had to take the cake. A mutant of a rather slimy nature. He could imagine the headline now "Something was always a little fishy about this businessman" , and boy were the MRC all over this guy, money laundering, gangland running, meeting with mutant extremists, meeting with anti-mutant extremists, the works, he was scum, and also terribly incompetent. Any individual looking at this on paper would wonder why it took so long to track him down.
Now, he was known to be meeting with someone about the sale of a property, but that wasn't a problem, as far as Linely knew, that was all above board. As he understood it something had burned down in the area... No, they weren't after his business partner, they were after him.
He was on a table next to Nelson, he made sure to face him. The man suspected nothing, as Linely chowed down on a rather nicely cooked plate of salmon spaghetti. Who on earth ordered that much fried calamari? Linely was just about to make a move , seeing as his associate hadn't arrived , when a heavily tattooed woman sat down opposite the man.
The two individuals talked for a while, then Nelson got up-Linely had ordered dessert. He'd decided to wait until the business partner finished whatever it was she was doing. Now it was a simple job of making Nelson collapse with pain, then swooping in as a police officer and taking him outside.
This guy had been knocked unconscious with pain more than once it seemed. This would almost be too easy. Linely's mind became clouded with the many painful memories that Nelson had, all the way down to childhood. He stood up as he found one that looked suitable, and activated it as he "accidentally" bumped into Nelson just as he finished the conversation with the strange tattooed lady.
Nelson went pale and fell on the floor. Simple stuff really. Linely whipped out his badge. "PD Linely, Food Standards, we'll be giving you guys a call." He moved to pick him up. This was going to be nice and easy, he thought.
Goodness he was not going in there with the amount of firing going on, he'd been in enough situations like this that the calm was only temporary. Sure enough the firing started up again. Great, this was just great. There was no real way of stopping this kind of mob violence. He hoped Emily was OK. Needless to say the police would be there soon, probably for a cleanup operation.
Linely looked up from his cover, the Italians were having a harder time of it than the Chinese. Rule number one of a firefight, pick solid cover. Linely himself felt less than confident about that single rule , considering the shattered glass surrounding him from the window.
He would just have to wait it out until he got more backup, meanwhile staying behind the brick wall next to the shattered window frame looked like the best idea, that way if anyone had any molotovs or weird mutations then he would have some cover.
As the security guard swore violently at the machine, Linely felt a heavy sense of relief. Roach was a bug of his word it seemed. Suddenly the memory stick didn't seem too much like a fire in the back of his pocket. He quietly picked up his gun and badge on the other side of the scanner and went on through.
Pure white tiles covered the floor, glass panels, the whole place screamed hypermodern tech. Linely gulped as he remembered what this room meant. It had become necessary after the problems the NYPD had had with corruption, particularly involving Ragnork and... the Order.
More security details would follow, they were awfully sophisticated, Linely knew. The floor was loaded with some pretty neat METAgenetic sensors, they activated randomly when trod on, and could tell you somebodies mutation, and if they had had recent contact with a mutant on the most wanted list.
Tough to hack, tough to mess with. You'd need a technopath for it. Fortunately for Linely, Roach was not yet on the security database, which probably said more about the number of vicious mutant criminals that NYC was suffering from than what Roach was like. Roach had quickly developed a small file on himself in the NYPD MRC, small compared to other mutants... for now. The sensors couldn't find what they weren't looking for, as one of the squeaky clean tiles lit up green, Linely breathed a sigh of relief.
"You got bloody lucky there Roach"-lucky that he was just to small fry, or lucky that they hadn't renewed the system yet? Or was it because Roach had placed a few bribes the right way? Linely wasn't sure. What he did know is that it could have gone really bad really fast.
Then it was simple. The central computer lay in a large cylindrical chamber, silver, featureless on the outside, no real issues there. However it was sealed by a code. A code that could only be unlocked by a badge pressed into the lock. The ID was recorded-and while PD Linely was allowed in there, if the monitering device was discovered...
A hiss from the door made Linely jump, it opened from the inside, it was Greg. Going out for a smoke. "Thank the lord for nicotine addiction" he murmured under his breath , as he carefully entered before Greg closed the door. A few friendly greetings later and he was in.
Darkness, only broken by a mass of blue light coming from the computers. Linely's eyes adjusted to the weird light from the screens. It had been bright outside. The supercomputer was busy running the META bots, the USB ports that were normally used were in plain sight, couldn't place the device in those... All the screen showed was a heck of a lot of code that Linely couldn't even pretend to understand. Now it was a case of finding the most obscure USB port in the supercomputer, the one that people always forget is there...the one that Linely would have a job to find.
So this was it, crunch time. For Man and Mutant kind alike Lienly knew that this was the only way. That cursed insect! He was quite happy serving the USA which had welcomed him with open arms, and quasi recruited him, to fight for justice.... With Roache's revelations. things had changed. Now he was looking mentally from Roach to the USA, the USA to Roach, and could find little difference between them. It wouldn't be much different if all the politicians in congress were insects (and a couple of them were) , not if they allowed innocent mutants to be targetted like this.
Getting through the double doors was easy, a simple flash of the badge. This was pretty secure, but the people knew him at the META Bot station, he was PD Linely. He had complained a lot when he was nearly arrested a few days ago by one of their PD "Rustbucket" models , still, at least he and Mellitus had got out of the situation mostly unscathed. He couldn't help but wonder whether he'd been victim to this unseen anti-mutant force. Hopefully it was just a glitch. Hopefully.
The security got tighter as he went through each door, fingerprint scanners, retinal checks. He was allowed in to all of these places. Hopefully Roach wouldn't be stupid enough to make the Cameras go funny at an inconvenient time. There was going to be a tricky bit - a metal detector, designed to make sure no-one damaged the computer. He was technically allowed to bring in a USB stick, but if it got too close an examination....trouble.
There it was, like an airport security scanner. Linely handed over his gun and badge to the attendant (he would receive them on the way out). The monitoring device was still in his pocket. "If you can hear me Roach, time to do a little bit of alchemy" he murmured to himself. This was normal for Linely, and the department knew it. Pain reflexes sometimes caused a problem like that, and Linely dealt with the pain by whispering a bit. Nobody listened or took it seriously. Hopefully, Roach would hear it. Hopefully, or this little plan of his was going down the drain.
Emily had finished packing her things. Linely threw money on the table. "Keep the change". He didn't want to be here when bullets started flying. "Just walk quickly out of here Emily with a smile on your face." She looked confused. Linely had never acted like this before, when she'd sat down on his table just after her shift at the coffee break. She didn't ask questions, but stayed in a dead silence, smiling as genuinely as she could. She walked briskly to the front door of the restaurant.
Linely followed swiftly behind. He turned around, trying to confirm his suspicions. Yep, there was the gun, and bullets were about to start fly- Shots. Screaming. Blood. Linely rolled behind cover. Looking back at Emily, good, she wasn't hurt. His instructions were clear: "Emily ...run ...call the police" His tone was serious, loud, calm.
Her footsteps were not interrupted. At least she was safe, but obviously terrified. He would need to talk that over with her later.
Thankfully, he hadn't left home without his pistol. His mutation would help somewhat with this situation as well, mobsters normally had a lot of pain to be getting on with. Little did he know that this situation was going to turn from a death prevention scenario to a cleanup operation.
The teenager looked a little worried about Forsyth knowing a bit more about her, Linely hadn't told him about the whole Australia thing (though Linely knew that he might suspect something). The shy smile and thank you told Linely all he needed to know, she wasn't too spooked by the situation. At some point her immigration status was going to be a problem, and didn't he know it.
>> "Of course, I'll be here anytime you need me. Not like I have anything better to do"
Linely smiled at this, it was good to have a degree of loyalty. Even if it was because he'd done a lot for her. "I promise to do what I can to help as well, for one thing, getting you enrolled in a school. Ideally somewhere where they understand mutants. For now though, I promised you some hand to hand training, so we can head to the training area. We have about an hour left before we have to get going."
"And I'll have to head off now" Forsyth spoke as his pager rang. "But good luck with your training Matthews." He quickly headed off down the corridor, heading towards the office.
Great. This was just great. All PD Linely was trying to do was have a nice, relaxing day off after a series of riots. He'd taken Emily out for a restaurant meal, they'd given them a nice table by the window. This restaurant was reasonably priced, and the several empty plates on the table-namely Main course and Starter, testified to their good cooking.
"It was so nice of you to invite me out to dinner" Emily spoke , her cheeks flushing hard. She had always been one that found it hard to hide her emotions, particularly around Linely. Not that Linely was any the wiser " It was nice of you to accept my invitation" He smiled warmly "Would you like to order dessert, this place does an excellent Tiramisu".
Then it happened. Chinese and Italian individuals entered through the front door, he recognised one of them from a picture in the police station. Mobsters. He didn't involve himself with such things unless it was mutant related, so it was obvious none recognised him.
Emily saw his face fall, visibly worried. "What's wrong?" she asked. "I think we need to go" he whispered "and then call the police." Fortunately there was enough talking in the restaurant that people didn't notice. Emily nodded, and began packing her things. Everything was about to get worse before it got better, Linely thought.
Linely mentally noted as Were took a knife from underneath Paul's trouser leg, a few ornate markings, not really surprising, these types always liked to think they were more sophisticated than they were, he chose not to say anything about this, better that an ally of the police force was armed than some street criminal.
>>"That's it now for then" "Until we get more information, yes. But Judgement Day aren't going to be particularly patient if this bible quote is anything to go by." Linely hoped it would be cut and dry, but given how nasty these individuals were, he doubted it.
>> "I'll make sure someone gets you my number"
"Sure, please do, the X Men have the MRC's number, just ask for PD Linely and I'll make sure to note it down." He saw Were hesitate. "What's up?" Linely spoke with a degree of concern, Paul was unconscious, but he knew better than to simply disregard a odd look from any of the X-Men.
>> "There was a time when the MRC wasn't even thought of"
Linely was well aware of that, you couldn't even walk down the street when he was a student without hearing about the latest killing of a human or a mutant at the hands of someone with a different gene. The supremacists on both sides were as bad as each other, and Linely had little time for either. If either caused a problem, he would be willing to work with anyone to deal with it. He smirked at Sam's joke "Thankfully we live in more enlightened times, now both sides of the gene debate have to answer to the law if it gets out of hand."
Great, here came the PR team to tell them that Utopia wasn't some attempt to simply divide society and attacking people (particularly the police force) for doing their jobs. It was the job of the police force to serve and protect mutant and human alike, and if Mr Jaager and his ilk didn't like that , then they could shove it up their proverbial.... Linely's thoughts trailed off.
>> "Would you mind if I gave you lovely folks a few of the details."
"While I came here for the free food, and to give some extra security for Devon, I'll hear what kind of claptrap the mutant communities Donald Trump has to say" Linely decided to be blunt, he wasn't in the mood to discuss politics. He was, frankly, going to vote for Vermin Supreme. A free pony sounded like a marvelous idea.
