The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Nick's pain was slowly fading again to that dull roar he mentioned earlier and he paused, looking over at Aris before draping his shoulder over hers and pulling her a bit closer to him. "No... It's not your fault at all..." He sighed lightly, looking over his shoulder to make sure nobody was looking for them. "It's not your fault, you dont need to be sorry Aris. The only fault that you can possibly take is simply BEING. I blame them... I blame the humans... They're the ones that attacked US, not us them..." Nick growled lightly, the very thought of those men in the Alley upsetting him a great deal.
"Look Aris, if I didnt want to come out here to see you, I wouldnt have come... I've been wanting to see you ever since you left, so obviously it's not your fault that I'm here... It's my fault, I could've easily said no... But I didnt and I didnt want to... And I dont regret it one bit... I missed you Aris, you're the best friend someone like me could have..." Nick smiles lightly, rubbing her shoulder before giving her a light jab to the ribs, he knew she couldnt feel it but felt like doing it anyways, it was always their thing to pick on each other. What friends didnt pick on each other though? People that werent friends, that didnt care about one another, those were the types to not pick on each other, the types that didnt care.
"We'll both be alright... I'm sure you know that... And you know I can handle myself if I need to... Remember, I've gone unnoticed for 7 years, I think I can continue to do it..." He smiles lightly, the pain he's currently feeling, something he knows he'll eventually get used to. Every time he uses his ability, his body will be sore and tired afterwards, and eventually he'll get used to it and be able to continue standing or walking no matter whether he has adrenaline or not... And even if he cant... There will be a way to fix that some time down the road...
Bear sat back on the couch listening to Calley speak, trying to keep his brain wrapped around everything he was saying while still trying to catch everything he was saying. He knew the questions were probably awkward but everything about the situation was awkward at the time so technically, awkward was the norm in the apartment at the current time they were in. And now the question to him, 'How does it feel to just be normal?' I guess he would know how to answer that question, especially considering he tried to live his life as just a normal person, despite being a mutant himself.
"Well, I guess it's just... Normal... You go to work, earn some money, come home, drink a beer, have some pizza, maybe play some video games or get on the internet... Then you fall asleep and do it all over again. I assure you, you probably have more fun being a mutant than most humans do... You get freedom for the most part, especially you, you can hide in plain site if you wanted to... In whatever form you wanted almost, you'd just have to be in a zoo to hide as a tiger..." Bear laughs lightly, thinking about a tiger casually walking through the streets of New York as everyone else flees the scene as fast as they can, trying not to be tiger food.
"I bet you know tons of secrets there Calley, stuff nobody would want you to know... Heck, you could go to the Mayors house every night for a week and probably find something out that he doesnt want anyone else to know about. THEN! You could blackmail him if you really wanted to..." Oh boy his dark side starts to come out, what a great feeling, he's suggesting things that this Cat-Boy-Tiger has probably already thought about and possibly already done. But then again, with him and his fruit-punch bearing, cookie eating, group of friends, that stuff is probably the last thing on his mind. He'd probably rather go chase butterflies in the park than do something like that, or would he? Maybe it's all just a front....
"So... What makes you speak so highly of this "Mansion" of yours... I mean, it sounds good and well, but it also sounds like some sort of cult." He finally said it... What a great feeling of relief it was to finally say it sounded like a cult. " 'We bring in all kinds of mutants, we train them and teach them how to use their powers, then send em out on the rest of the world.' I mean... I doubt all mutants are like that... But that's just what it sounds like in all honesty...." Bear shifts in his seat a bit nervously, hoping he didnt offend the young man.
Nick let out a sigh of relief, finally getting some time to rest but, that was something he didnt want mentally because he knew if he rested too long he'd be in a great deal of pain. "So... I guess I kinda know why you hate humans so much... This all started over you BEING a mutant... We did nothing wrong... We defended ourselves... And they did this to us... Turned us into fugitives... Because of what we are, not what we did..." Nick pauses a moment, hearing himself saying these words, feeling the hate in his heart. He didnt want to be like this, didnt want to hate people just for hating him or his best friend, but it didnt feel right the way they were being treated.
"Well hey, look at it this way... That hospital probably needed to be remodeled." Nick laughs lightly, thinking back a few minutes ago to when the two of the turned a peaceful hospital into a miniature warzone with just the two of them involved. "New walls, new doors, new staff... New underwear..." Nick laughs again, thinking about how many people must've pissed or crapped their pants when they were on their way out of the hospital the police had planned to be a trap. He could feel his adrenaline slowing down and he waited for it, dreading it but knowing it was happening. His body slowly became weaker and weaker as he sat there on the roof, his heart slowing down a bit.
The first sensation hits, his shoulder with the stab wound, the second, his leg from the kick, his third his other shoulder, then his head and finally his ribs. He groans lightly, trying to hold back a howl of pain, trying to keep their location hidden. He grits his teeth together tightly, letting out another groan before slumping back against the edge of the roof. "Before you say anything... Dont worry, I'll be ok... Just sore... I'm noticing that the pain hits hard right when it comes back then fades kinda fast until it's just a dull roar..." Nick lets out a slow breath, trying to deal with the pain and the tire in his entire body.
"So... I take it you're not very comfortable being a human then? What happens to your clothes when you transform? Do they just fall off or do they disappear or something?" Bear looks at the kid before shifting his weight forward, placing his elbows on his knees as he sits on the couch, uncomfortably. Yeah, inviting a guy wearing a trench coat with a stab wound and long hair, whom you dont know, into your apartment always seemed like a bad idea to Bear. But, this guy was from that Mansion place so he was surprised he didnt see a platter of cookies sitting somewhere in the house.
"What's it like being a cat? How does it feel to transform? Did it take a long time to learn how?" Why was he asking all of these questions? Bear has never been this interested in a mutant before, besides Aris, so he really couldnt figure out for himself why he was suddenly so curious. It was like something inside of him told him to find out as much as he can about this Cat-Boy-Tiger named Calley. Who really knows though anymore, he's a mutant who's hiding that he's a mutant, so maybe if he's comfortable sitting with a mutant, pretending to be a human, he'd ask questions. Yeah that's a good explanation for all the questions, he's playing the role of a curious human trying to find out more about the mutants for one reason or another.
"Keep running!" With this, Nick can finally hear the gunshots and he looks around quickly, catching sight of a manhole, he leaps to it and yanks it out of the street with ease before slinging it over his back and running in to catch up to Aris. He ties the Manhole to his back to the best of his ability, trying to stay behind Aris, as the two are running, Nick hears Aris mumbling to herself quietly about not wanting to get shot. "Dont worry... You wont..." Nick smiles as he yells to her, still staying behind her. A ricochet sounds off of the manhole and another, Nick is happy he made the decision to grab it.
"These cops arent as bad at shooting as I had hoped they'd be..." The two continue running as fast as they can, Nick spots cops down the street from where they are and quickly grabs Aris' shoulder and spins her to the side. "Sorry, we have to hide from the cops..." Nick jumps into the alley that he spun Aris into and pauses a moment, not even feeling out of breath from the run. He looks up at the fire escape on the side of one of the apartment buildings the two were hiding between.
"Hey Aris, you see those..." He points to the fire escape. "You thinking what I'm thinking?.... What cop is going to be smart enough to look for someone on the roof?" He grins lightly before running over to where the fire escape is and leaping into the air, he grabs onto the bottom of the ladder and hoists himself up and gets a good grip on the ladder before climbing it and getting to the fire escape, waiting for Aris to follow him up. Once she's up, he leads the way, climbing stair after stair in an endless circle until he gets to the final platform and grabs onto the ladder leading to the roof. He quickly scrambles up the ladder and jumps to the roof before taking his duffel bag and suitcase off of his back and dropping them, as well as the manhole on said roof. He then drops down to his butt, leaning his back up against the lip/edge of the top of the building, finally allowing himself to relax. "Oh I'm gonna be sore in a couple minutes...."
The long walk continued for what seemed like forever, after a while the two got to an apartment complex and moved through it until they got to the apartment of his feline acquaintance. After entering, Bear's eyes roamed the apartment, taking in all the various aspects of it, the cat lived quite nice for a Boy-Cat-Thing. Bear's eyes continue to roam the area before the cat jumps out of his arms with ease and walks off all snobby cat style, not that he was being snobby, just everyone knows cats are simply snobby. "Yeah of course... Bipedal... Ok..."
Bear moved around the kitchen and living room almost uncomfortably, not really feeling right being in someone elses house whom he barely even knew. After a few minutes a young man dressed rather nicely emerges from the bedroom where the cat disappeared. "I guess you werent lying when you said you were naked outside of your tiger or cat or whatever form... Makes sense then why you didnt change back... But I think you also didnt change back cuz you were too lazy to walk all the way here..." Bear smirks lightly, partially joking and partially serious about what he said.
"So... Nice place you got here." Oh how cliche it was to say something like that... BUT! This was a rather nice place the young man was living in. Bear felt himself being sized up a bit and laughed lightly, realizing how much larger he STILL was compared to Calley. "Uhm... Well.." Bear looks around the apartment slowly, glancing over at the couch and moving almost uneasily towards it before having a seat, trying to relax a bit after the past couple of days. In the light of the apartment, it was probably obvious to see the utter exhaustion in the face of Bear who was still awake after his bus ride into New York just the other day.
"No injections" Nick glanced over at Meld for a moment then shrugged to himself silently, almost agreeing with her in her demand. The doctor looked up at him for a confirmation and Nick didnt make a move so the doctor went on with the procedure. The first needle in with the suture and Nick grimaced in pain, the second, yet another grimace, and the third, another, by the 4th suture, Nick couldnt feel anything anymore and grinned lightly to himself. 10 minutes passed and the doctor leaves, announcing needing to get paperwork, then... The police.
"Put your hands where we can see them, this is the police." Sounded through the door and Nick sighed lightly, hoping this night would just end eventually. He pulled his jacket up over his shoulder and looked over at Meld before reaching to his wound and pressing his thumb to it. Nick feels his body fill with more strength at the damage he did to it before he rolls his shoulders and neck, looking at the door most likely with tons of police officers behind it.
"We dont stop moving Aris, we're not going to allow them to see our faces, agreed?" Nick looks to his friend for acceptance of what he said before looking at the door. He abruptly lifts his foot up and slams it hard into the door, sending it and the police officers behind it crashing down. He then goes into a hard sprint, aiming to leave the hospital in one piece with no bullet holes. He slams a shoulder into an officer on his way out the door, clearing the way a bit for Aris before slamming into another officer, all the while moving his legs as fast as he can, not wanting to stop and check on anybody.
"Keep moving!" Nick yells back behind him, hoping he hasnt lost his good friend. He sees the doorway they came through on their way in and charges into it hard with his uninjured shoulder, throwing the doors off of the hinges and sending them tumbling through the waiting room, luckily missing all of the people. Nick continues his charge, seeing the glass emergency room doors, he picks his jacket up over his head to protect himself and goes head and shoulder first through the glass doors, his body pumping with adrenaline and strength. He can feel himself getting stronger and stronger every time he slams into something, his body is going to be punished later but at the current moment in time, he doesnt care, all he cares about is the rush he's getting from his adrenaline and the feeling of his body filling with power.
He continues to run, not letting up, not relenting, his body is loving every minute of it as his Mutant Ability continues to pump. He glances back behind him, once he thinks he's free of the hospital and any further problems, hoping to see the face of his good friend right there.
Bear continues walking the streets, headed the right direction, hopefully as the cat asks yet another question of him. "Yeah I guess so... Well I'm from Vancouver, Canada... Took a bus and got here just yesterday... Got mugged my first night, great place this is..." Bear scoffs lightly at his words and laughs. He continues walking, carrying and petting this cat that was formerly a Tiger that was formerly a young man. Oh what a life he leads, nothing but weirdness as soon as he got to New York.
"Yeah of course it doesnt bother you, you're not the one doing the walking...." Bear grumbles lightly under his breath, his trench coat swaying back and forth as he walks through the street. "So... Dont you think people will find it a little weird, me talking to a cat? Oh wait, that's right... This is the United States, New York to be more specific... I guess crazy is the norm here right?" Bear sighs lightly, continuing his trek, following the direction the tail pointed.
Bear wasnt used to the US yet, he rather preferred it back home, nothing like having a boring day full of all kinds of exciting nothingness. Oh the night he would be having if he were back home... He'd come home from a long day working at the gas station with all kinds of normal customers coming in just to get gas or a soda and snack, then leaving, maybe coming back for change. Oh such a great uneventful day he would be having, maybe a mountain dew or beer in hand when he gets back, or even a pizza box. He'd come home, sit down at his computer and turn on COD4 or BF2 or something like that... Kick some butt online and end up passing out late in the night only to get up the next day and repeat the process.
Nick slowly got up from the wheel chair and sat on the exam table, pulling his jacket down just far enough to show the wound on his shoulder and leaving the wound in his side covered. Nick then proceeds to tear at his T-Shirt, ripping the sleeve off of his arm so the wound is easier to get to. What if they ask for a blood sample? Would they check for the X-Gene? Why would they? Well, I did claim Aris was my sister so they might be suspicious that I am to... Nick shakes his head slowly, trying to shake the thoughts out of his head before looking to Aris as she speaks.
"Why dont you have a good feeling about this? You think they're going to do something bad? Why would they, they're doctors... They took an oath..." Nick sighs lightly, looking around the room as he waits for the doctor to get in to stitch him up. After what seems like hours of Aris shifting around impatiently and Nick looking for things to read with only his eyes, a man in a long white coat walks into the room and pulls up a stool and sits down looking at Nicks arm.
"What happened here?" The doctor speaks into Nicks arm.
"Well, my sister and I were walking down the street when we got pulled into an Alley by some thugs or something... They threatened me and her and we defended ourselves, I received a knife wound in the process. What more is there to tell?" Nick flinches lightly as the doctor prods at his wound. "What took you so long?"
"Oh... Uh... Well to be completely honest and blunt, nobody wanted to come in here... They all seem to be nervous about your sister I guess..." The Doctor seemed calm enough, maybe he was the only mutant sympathizer in the entire hospital, but that doesnt seem to be the luck mutants have. Why was he so calm? Was there something he knew that they didnt know? That similar feeling Nick gets only when bad things are about to happen begins to churn in his gut as he looks on at the doctor who has his gaze set on the phone as he's pulling out a needle with some kind of fluid in it.
"What's that?" Nick looked at the needle as he prepped it to puncture skin, making sure to get any air out of it.
"Oh just something to numb the area...." Nick quickly looks over at Aris, not really knowing what to do in the current situation, especially with his gut churning.
Bear put his arms up as the cat jumped into his lap, knowing there was no beating a cat when it came to things such as this. He just gave in, not wanting to, nor being really willing to, he did anyways. "That'd be cool Calley, now... Really, why you gotta hop into my lap like this?" Bear sighed as he looked down at the cat, still petting it reluctantly as he asked the question about the hospital. His mind raced, trying to figure out if he'd find out he was a mutant if he explained the fight to him. After a little deliberation, he realized just leaving a few things out would help him to not get found out.
"Well, I was walking down the street with a friend of mine and we got mugged..." Bear paused, glancing at his left shoulder and at the unstitched wound on the same side. "I got stabbed in the process of defending myself and my friend helped me to the hospital. We had a few issues there before I got stitched up then we just left... That's basically about it... Not much else to it really.." Bear sighed, looking up at the sky, his body aching from the fall.
"Down that way huh?" Bear moved to stand up and the cat placed his paws on his stomach, almost forcing him to stay down. "What?" Bear looked down at him before realizing what was going on and letting out a groan then a sigh. "Fine..." Bear scoops the cat up in his arms and stands up, heading down the alley towards where the cat pointed prior to him not being able to stand up. "I have to stop somewhere really quick... Gotta get my stuff... Actually, I guess it can stay in the locker until I get an apartment of my own..." Bear continues trekking down the alleys and along the sidewalk, heading the direction he's supposed to to get to where he needs to be to get some much needed rest. 36 hours of being awake does tend to take a toll on ones body even if they're secretly a mutant.
Bear looked down at the little cat guy thing with a look of disbelief, it was actually rubbing up against him. He took a step back to avoid the cat and the cat continued to rub up against him, purring commencing, Bear let out a sigh and just stood there. "I think I'll uh... Look up the address, I mean... Why would I go to this Mansion of yours? I doubt I'd be super welcome, I mean it's a place for mutants right?" Welcome, more like 'I doubt I'd be comfortable surrounded by freaks.'
"But as for that apartment of yours..." Bear lifts his leg up and takes a step back, turning away from the wall and trying to stop the cat from pawing at his legs. "I guess I could take you up on that... I actually havent been in town long and spent last night out on the street and in the hospital... So I havent had to spend any money at all really, aside from the obvious need for food and drink."
Bear felt like he was dancing with the cat who was begging with all he had to get pets, his legs were moving all over the place until he eventually lost his balance and fell flat on his butt. At this moment his adrenaline level was back to normal after the falling tiger incident and his body suddenly felt sore again. Lucky for the cat guy thing, Bear could no longer escape his wrath of needing pets. "Ok ok god..." Bear reached out a hand and began petting the cat, not really having a choice in the matter anymore. Defeat, such a bitter thing to taste, especially when you're defeated by what now is simply, none other than, a cat... Oh the bitter bitter defeat.
"So, I guess I stay at your place... Just for the night... Then find a place of my own tomorrow after you introduce me to your friend... Preferably not at this mansion of yours... I dont think it'd be right, me going there..." Bear wanted to avoid the mansion at all costs very obviously, not knowing what to expect at such a place where a cat thing, that was far too nice, dwelled. All Bear could imagine was people coming to the door when he walked in, trays full of cookies with huge smiles on their faces. And a pitcher of Kool-Aid somewhere in the corner, Red, to be particular.
The nurse looked back and forth between the two 'siblings' and didnt know what to think, she obviously had a distaste for mutants and thought that the man she was going to stitch up wasnt but his 'sister' was obviously a mutant to even the untrained eye. "She comes with me..." Nick growled, his thumb close to pressing into his open wound.
"Sir, please stop that... Your threatening to hurt yourself isnt going to make me listen." The nurse shot a glance back at Aris as she spoke commandingly.
"You are going to stitch my brother up all good as new. And I am going to come with you to make sure that you're doing your jobs properly." The nurse didnt know how to respond as Aris let out her threat, nurses in the ER have probably been threatened before on occasion and typically those threats were very empty. But this threat, the nurse could feel in her gut, was a legitimate threat, she swallowed hard and her pulse quickened before she finally gave in, nodding her head yes.
"Good, now... Cmon sis... Let's get this done and get out of here...." Nick smiled lightly as he looked back at Aris, waiting for her to follow. The smile, though, was pretty fake especially if you consider that Nick knew this little fiasco wasnt going to be over this easily. The hospital was probably full of doctors who dont really give a crap about their Hippocratic Oath, their oath to help anyone who needs it despite who or what they are. Nick would be lucky if he got a Doctor that didnt have a death wish and followed the Oath he took when he started practicing medicine, but in this day and age, most of those doctors are already doing what they CAN to help mutants in need and wouldnt be found in a typical hospital.
Bear looked on at the now cat curiously, "Aye, less like an Animal Control Hazard indeed.... You're... Just a little cat now..." Bear laughs lightly to himself, shaking his head and now realizing he's seen it all, or so he thinks. A human friendly book store? That means that this Calley thinks that I'm a human? Oh this is too good to be true. And now to the question of who he was, the question he pushed to the back of his mind the moment it was asked, how does one respond to something like that when they dont want to be known?
"I'm...." He pauses a moment, trying to think of something when suddenly a name pops into his head, his nickname his co-worker back home gave him. "Bear, call me Bear..." A triumphant grin stretches across his face, the perfect Alias to use with anyone but Aris. Why do they need to know his real name anyways? It's not like it's super important.
"So... This friend of yours with the human friendly book store, is there any way I could meet with her to possibly get a job interview? That'd be great, I'm looking for just about anything right now... And as for the place to stay, I think I'll pass on the Mansion of yours... I'd rather just find an apartment, I've got some money saved, just not enough to last..." Bear smiles lightly, turning and leaning up against the wall, a slight cringe coming from him at the feel of his ribs pressing together, the wound still fresh from recent activity.
The cab ride was quick and to the point, this late in the evening and the traffic would typically die down to a dull roar, not as bad as usual obviously. "I'll be alright Aris, I promise..." Nick groaned lightly as he shifted in his seat, leaning his head against the glass before inconspicuously pulling his jacket open and looking down at his blood soaked T-Shirt. The knife from the last kick had obviously flung out of the mans hand and into his side.
The car came to a halt and Nick threw his uninjured arm over the shoulder of Aris as he helped him out of the car, and into the emergency room. Not enough words being spoken as the two took their trip to the hospital and to the emergency room. Nurses rushed out quickly with a wheelchair and sat Nick down in it before attempting to cart him off. "She comes with me!"
"No sir, only family in the room with you..." One of the nurses pushing the wheel chair spoke to him.
"She's my sister! Sis! Come on!" Nick looked back over his shoulder.
"I'm sorry sir but we're going somewhere she can't follow."
"Why is that? Why cant she come with me? I want her by my side..." Nick shot his arm out, grabbing the corner of the wall and holding on for dear life, the nurse stopping dead in her tracks. "Tell me why..."
"She's..."
"She's what? A person? She comes with me..." Nick growls lightly before looking back to Aris and reaching his good hand to his shoulder. His eyes telling her exactly what he was about to do, his hand showing the nurses he was serious but not in any way they could fathom. He was going to cause his body immense pain just so he'd be strong enough to do something with himself rather than be carted off in a wheel chair.
Bear growls lightly to himself, looking down at the tiger, not really afraid of it for some stupid reason. "No I'm not hurt... Yet..." Bear sighs, one of the biggest downfalls to his ability... He can survive a car slamming into him, until his adrenaline wears off.... "Who are you? What are you?" Bear knew he shouldnt have asked the 'what' part but at this point he didnt really care.
Why do kids find it so fun to torment people, and why do people think it's ok to take it... Why is it ok for Bear to take the torment? Why doesnt he do something about it like he should? A lifelong struggle with torment and all he does is wait for it to happen and wait for it to be over. The one time he stood up for himself back home, he almost go killed for it. The second time, Bear looks to his stitched and bandaged shoulder, a knife wound.
"I think I'll be ok without a doctor... I know a few people that can help me if I really need it... Now... If you dont mind, I'm trying to find somewhere to live or work or SOMETHING. Gah this town really sucks sometimes... Hey, you know of anything like that?" Bear looks down at the tiger. "And are you always stuck in that form? A talking tiger... Or do you look human usually?"
