The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Max felt a pang of unease. She made it sound very intimate. He was a pretty forward guy, not one to keep secrets but at the statement he thought of one thing. Haven. Noel was in the facility so she had to know some things, but if she wasn't clued in on all of Havens operations he could be letting the cat out of the bag. He couldn't let that happen.
Haven valued secrecy and to that end they had members whom participated in covert affairs trained on mental defenses. Max didn't know exactly how Noel's power work but he did what he had been taught in hopes it would work. He created the image of a crate in his mind. A box of secrets that he had learned from Haven. Part of the exercise was taking the time after learning a secret to hide it inside. Then you threw the crate into the farthest reaches of your mind and wrapped it in disjointed, paradoxical thoughts. For Max he wrapped his crate around a loop of "The Song that Never Ends". The attempted result was to catch anyone trying to peirce the veil in a loop of thought. His approach was unorthodox, but practical.
Back in reality she was nose to nose with him and his pulse kicked it up another notch. She warned him it could take some time but he didn't back down. Her lips met his, gentle st first but then increasing in intensity. He was acutely aware how rediculous he looked in an apron and sweatpants.
The kiss seemed to go on and on. He kissed back, unsure of what else to do. He wasn't sure if it was working or not but he allowed it to continue. His body reacted and he felt himself struggling in a tug of war with his primal side. He wanted to kiss her more, the evolutionary desire to escalate the situation screaming in his ears. Instead he began furiously reciting a single thought in his mind, over and over again like a wall.
"This is to help her learn English. This is to help her learn English. This is to help her learn English "
Finally they broke apart and she rested her head against his. Part of him was relieved to be done, part of him was sissapointed. She seemed focused, eyes shut tight and as they spun Max's attention was brought to the pot steaming in the stove.
Idiot.
He didn't want to break her focus so he gently pulled them to the kitchen. They hovered above the stove and Max gingerly reached a hand down and turned off the heat. At least dinner was ready, though Max found his appetite was not as important as he had found it a few moments ago.

It's like putting people on a registry simply because of their genetics."
Max didn't know if it was just the cliche "liberal college student" thing or if perhaps Janelle was as forward thinking as she appeared. Max gave a nod in response, there were still plenty of good people in the world.
"It's fear really. Human nature is to look at anyone who isn't exactly like us a label them as something. Just so happens that this time the labeled people have some unique ways of fighting back." He said with a sly smirk.
She replied about her future plans.
"I don't know. Science is pretty awesome. Maybe you'll discover a new type of plant, or something crazy like that. Gotta have a little adventure in life right?" He said with a wink.
"So are you from around here or did you move here for school? "

Max was relieved to hear Elliot agree to let the goon go away peacefully. He knew little of the green man other than the fact that he was capable in a fight. Seeing he had a capacity for mercy was a good thing. He still paused to give the man a deadly stare before they left but Max thought it was more for deterrence than malice.
He followed Elliot into the hallway in silence and allowed the man to state his case. As Elliot explained Max could almost taste the self loathing emanating from the man. He was conflicted and torn, much as Max had been himself until very recently. He spoke of criminals and doing good to help those who could not speak in their own defense. It was a noble goal, one Max shared. Then came the confession of his assault and Max nodded in understanding.
" The world has never been a place of black and white, good an evil. If you do bad things to bad people are you doing good or only expanding on the harm being done? We all live in the balance man." He said.
Lord he was spending too much time with Devon. Max felt like he was slipping on his friends suit jacket even as the words escaped his lips. Therapy was helping Max a lot.
"No judgement here man. I understand the fury of seeing innocent people suffer. It's a part of this messed up world. There are ways to make a difference and still sleep at night though." He continued.
He pulled out one of Haven business card from his pack. Part of working for then was always being ready to promote.
"I work for Haven. It's a support organization to help those people who have problems or obstacles they can't overcome. Finding a purpose and direction for that anger you have, helping people. Just a thought." He said
The words rang in Max's ears as he looked into the hopeful eyes of the girl. The earnestly in the question melted his heart. She asked as if the idea of someone helping her was completely new. He didn't know her, but he could imagine the difficulties that must have made that surprise evident.
.. I have 20 years experience for me."
Something clicked as she finished. Maybe it was the gestures she was making to her mouth and then to her head, maybe it was wishful thinking, or maybe he was dead wrong. His pulse quickened as he floated there looking into those big eyes.
"You taste yesterday? Like memories right? You can taste memories? I know how to speak English so you could taste me," a weird shiver ran down his spine, not unpleasant but unfamiliar, "You can learn to speak too right?" He asked.
It seemed strange, Stranger than even finding himself steering the pair around the room in their weightlessness. But he had offered help and if she had the courage to ask for help how could he reject that. He steeled himself, this was some good he could do in the world.

Michael adjusted quickly to Max's dodge. Things would have been so much easier if the guy wasn't so freaking fast. There was a buzzing in Max's ears as the now familiar sensation within him spread through his mind.
Ever since his return to life Max had been experiencing moments of intense response. Call it adrenaline or instinct but now whenever he found himself corner, or in battle his mind sharpened it's focus to a razors edge.
Micheal grabbed Max's feet. The young mutant felt his momentum carrying him backward so instead of allowing himself to fall he changed gravity, doubling it and aiming it straight at Michael.
He pulled himself up as he went. His knees rising up towards Michael's chest. He felt pain in his feet where the man had him held but Max had a dancers flexibility. As he rose up he pulled his arm back and threw an open handed punch at the man's head.

Two thousand dollars felt like a very hefty wad of bills when thrust into your hands. Max was grinning from ear to ear. The man seemed only slightly annoyed, and Max could tell he was more curious. He introduced himself as Puppeteer and Max found himself understanding the Teddy bear incident better. It also showed Max the man was going by a codename.
"Grav Bomb, or GB for short." He answered.
He gave a start as he noticed the dummy walking over to him. The thing gave him the chills, reminding Max of some B rated horror flick he'd watched as a child. He watched Puppeteer demonstrate his ability and found himself a little creeped out.
You fly what else do you do son?"
Max considered for a moment how to reply before giving a little shrug.
"What you see is kind of what you get. I control gravity through touch. So I can fly or float or I can make other stuff fly and float." He explained.
This man was giving off a sketchy vibe. Weird puppet men driving fancy cars with loads of cash on them asking random people he sees if they are "The guy from the bank."

Maxwell entered the garage listening intensely. He heard nothing, no note if the girl he had been following. He let out a sigh, she wasn't going to take the easy way. How tiresome.
He grabbed one of the wheeled stools that resided in the garage by the door.He set it in front of the door and plopped down on it.
She could hide if she wanted to. Maxwell had the advantage of time. He pulled out his phone and began dialing the clubs office number.
"Should have taken the deal. Now I have to consider you as a trespasser and security will not be fond of that." He said coldly.
He prepared to hit the call button and get some backup.

Noel lifted her top and Max saw the wound. It was healing, but he had to imagine the injury had been nasty. He felt his free hand slid down to touch the edging just outside of the bruising. The wounds didn't look accidental and he felt a surge of concern. He had just met the girl but a primal desires to protect her sprang up.
"..Would be easier if English was not bad language."
Max nodded and tried to adjust their body positions so he was facing her.
"Trust me. Everyone makes bad choices sometimes. It's how you rebound from them that matters. I'm sure you will," He said sincerely," and if you need help with English I have about twenty years of experience. I'll help."
He didn't like to be the hero. He didn't like to swoop in and offer help to every girl that had a problem, but Max found himself truly wanting to assist. Maybe it was his recent return to life, but he believed everyone deserved a second chance.

"I thought I called the guys on the left."
Max smiled as Elliot knocked the assailant off the crate with a punch.
"Well you didn't call dibs. Plus it looked cooler." He said with a shrug.
Max watched Elliot disarm the goon and was once again reminded that the green man was formidable. His hood slipped and as Max looked at him standing there he could see how he would be an imposing figure to go up against.
"Well. How do you want this to go down? PS. Thanks for dropping in."
Max watched the triad goon squirm like a mouse in a trap. He looked at the body of the man Elliot had killed. No more violence.
"No problem, someone had to have your back. Let's get out of here," He replied to Elliot walking towards him.
As he approached the triad goon the man took a few steps back to let Max through. He looked terrified. Poor guy.

Max listened intently as Janelle described her paper. It would be the kind of thing he would soon find himself struggling to make time for. He gave a sympathetic shrug as she finished.
"Kinda reminds me of that story about the city paying homeless people to wear battery powered routers as a way to provide free public wi-fi. Not a bad idea in concept but seems a little dehumanizing to me." He said.
She told him her major. Botany eh? He stopped himself from vocalizing the fact that he didn't even know that was a thing you could major in. He found it might be insulting.
"Sounds interesting. All about life and beauty. I approve. Not that you need it." He said playfully.
As she tucked into her salad Max found it was now his turn to answer the questions and he sipped his coke and leaned back in his chair. He placed the can back on the table and his arms went behind his head as a makeshift cushion.
"Honestly I dream of being a performer. Dance and acting are my passions. But I figure with marketing I can help promote myself or get a kill myself nine to five desk job. Right now I work for Inferno, the night club near central park, it's a cool gig." He explained.
"What about you? What does a botanist do once you finish school?" He asked.

"I think this just got more interestin
The remark and the twinkle in Rangers eyes told Max he was busted. As impressive as the counter had probably looked it had given away that he had abilities. Michael didn't seem offended by Max's powers, or disgusted as a normal person might be, he seemed intrigued. That made Max nervous, if facing a mutant didn't put you off guard you had some tricks up your sleeve.
Michael offered to take the assault this time and Max felt a bead of nervous sweat trickle down his temple. The man came at him fast and Max saw the strike headed for his solar plexus and brought his arm up to break the attack. In an impossibly quick turn Michael instead sent his attack upward to Max's neck.
Instinct took over. Max couldn't out speed a man this quick straight out, but his powers were as quick as thought. Gravity changed, pulling Max straight back and he felt his bare feet leave the mat as he slid back. Michael's fingertips brushed the young mutants neck as he flew back.
Next Max's legs curled up and he thrust both of them out in a horizontal drop kick from his partially airborne position.

Geo's remarks about parents hit pretty close to home. Max's mother and father had jobs that were more like a life to them than the family they had back at home. It was part of why he never wanted to get stuck in the corporate grind of long hours and no joy.
It was the assessment of Max's hypothetical fight that made the young man think. Geo had made a rather accurate assessment based off nothing more than the quick example of abilities they had shared outside. It showed his tactical mind.
"You make a good point there," Max replied, "Keeping your opponent off guard is half the game."
He gave a nod of accepted defeat.
"Also you have me there. Projectiles are my worst enemies. If I'm up in your face I can keep you off balance with gravity, but at a distance I have few options." He conceded.
He pulled one of his metal and wire yo-yos out of his pack. His fingers traced the foam and duct tape wrapped around the loop for his finger before he tossed it to Geo.
"I have to make contact to use my power. I made these so I could extend my range, but it still isn't perfect. Your a mechanic right? If you have any modification ideas I'm all ears." He said with a grin.

Quin made note of Max's ability like a mechanic would make note of the tools in his box. Max could almost see the wheels of calculation spinning in her mind. For all he knew by the end of this she might have some ideas of how he could use his power.
Then she showed him what she could do. Max watched as another bottle floated her way. This time she crushed it but instead of a flat cylinder Max saw a statue of a dog. She offered him it and he took it assessing it. A solid plastic figure, and the details were rough but present, that would have taken pinpoint control of her ability. She finished explaining the details and Max smiled.
"That's damn adaptable. Talk about the perfect Era for it it. Synthetic polymers are in almost everything. You could really do some damage with this. Remind me to stay on your good side " He said
She asked if his abilities were a new development and he laughed.
"I've had my powers since I was thirteen. Unless they've changed in some way I've yet to experience they were unaffected by the incident." He answered.

His attempt to drop Michael was once again turned on him. The man fell backwards too soon bringing himself and Max to the mat. Max thought that was it but Micheal had other plans and before he knew it Max found himself in some kind of modified arm bar.
The move was a submission technique. Micheal could apply pressure to Max's arm while bracing against his shoulder and put all the tension on Max's elbow. Breaking out would require escaping his grasp but even as Max twisted his wrist he felt the man's hands on him like a vice grip. A normal man would be forced to submit.
Luckily Max wasn't normal. He used his free arm and grabbed his own shoulder and sent a surge of power onto the man holding him. Michael might have strength and leverage but Max made him weightless and that made him easy to move.
Max rolled to his knees pulling the now light Micheal up and over, swinging him like a club. He thrust his arm down hurling the man attached to him's face at the mat below.

Elliot caught the dropped hatchet like an action movie star and Max let out a sigh of relief. It was short lived however as the red eyed mutant spun and planted his fist into the side of Max's face. The young dancer stumbled back and released one end of his wire. The other mutant freed himself quickly and continued his assault.
Max was oblivious to Elliot's struggle below as he fought off the mutant. With a yoyo in one hand Max tried to land another grapple but his opponent was skilled and something was off. It seemed that the guy was able to predict and dodge all of Max's strikes. Like his eyes were able to perceive every tint movement Max made. It was after another series of blows that Max stumbled back and fell to one knee.
The man began talking angrily in Chinese and Max fought to come up with a defense. The mutant charged and in one moment of desperate instinct Max flipped over him. His hands brought the wire tight and he wrapped it around the man's neck as he flew under him. He landed on the ceiling again and could feel the mutants grip on his wire.
Max dropped his power over the man and felt him fall back towards earth. The wore dug into the man's hands and neck as he struggled but Max held firm with his weight pressed to the ceiling and competing gravity on his side. The mutant coughed and became still and Max released the yoyo and watched the man fall to the ground. He landed in a heap and stirred slightly.
Max drew his attention back to Elliot and saw him planted on a crate looking down at two goons. Max changed gravity on himself and dropped onto the floor. He collected his yoyo and began swinging the end like a bolo.
"Hey a$$hole." He shouted as he let the metal disk fly.
The goons turned as the yoyo wrapped around the leg of the goon on the left. Max let out a surge of power down the wire and made the goon weightless. With a mighty tug he pulled the man off his feet and Max swung the wire and threw him across the tunnel and into a nearby crate. The man collided and Max pulled his yoyo back into his palm looking for Elliot.
