The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

College is really just about breaking us down so that the real world can mold us in whatever image they want."
Max nodded his head and looked at the girl in her frustration. She seemed sweet he liked that.
"Don't let society tell you anything. Be the you that makes you happy is the way I see it. What's the paper on?" He asked.
He let out a laugh at her advice on being chic as she offered her hand and name. Pretty, solid sense of humor, Max found himself very happy with his choice of seats.
"I'm max." He said shaking her hand, "Thanks. I'm thinking of going into marketing, good backup plan if dreams fail ya know. What's your major?"

Max plucked the cue ball out of the pocket ad Geo joked about them hustling pool. He chuckled at the idea of the two of them fleeing a bar with their I'll gotten gains both taking off with the mutations.
"Ohio boy huh?" He said placing the cue ball on the table, " I've been there. Used to make trips with some friends to pick up Al8 in Kentucky. Nice place. Seems peaceful."
He lined up his shot and sent a solid ball into a pocket. Then turned his attention to the remaining. Five six and seven stood on the table daring him to come at them. He lined up another go and though his shot veered at the end and glanced the five ball it hovered dangerously close to the pocket.
"Earth and sky, the oldest of the elements. I think we could show some of the boys here a show if we ever found the need to throw down," He said with a laugh glancing at the younger teens in the room, " though from your experience it sounds like you could take me easy "

Michael told Max his experience, it was impressive. For a moment Max regretted picking him as a partner, how was a street punk like him suppose to keep with with a trained military killer? Instead he decided to think of it as a learning experience.
And learn he did. His feint seemed successful up in til Michael twisted out of the way and Max felt a hand clamping on his arm and shoulder. His arm was thrust inward to his body at a weird angle and he felt pressure on it. His arm stung in protest and Max used his free hand to tap his thigh twice to submit.
They broke apart and Max looked at Michael. Michael commented on Max's speed and the young mutant smiled.
"Thanks, though your quick too. That arm lock move was impressive. I'll have to remember that one." He replied.
He brought his hands back up and looked at Michael. The man was playing it smart and safe, reacting to Max's hits and grappling him for submissions. Max would need to change tactics.
He rushed Michael brining his right arm back ad if to strike. Once in range he ducked down and went in with his left arm springing out at the man's midrif. Get an arm around him, swing around behind him to take him off balance and take his legs out with a sweeping kick. That was the name of this game. Now just to see if it would work.

Quin shook his hand and Max smiled. It felt good to have somone on his side with this, working with him to figure out what was going on. He had talked to Devon about his feelings concerning his sudden resurrection and the man had been a miracle when it came to helping get Max on his feet. That being said he also had two companies to help run and Max didn't wanna burden him with any more trouble. Quin was capable, determined, and obviously a skilled investigator. Who better to help him.
If something fishy is going on, I need to know you'll listen."
"You talk like you think I'll have trouble taking orders." He said releasing her hand with a devilish smile, "You're in charge detective."
They rose and Max followed her towards her laptop. She inquired about his abilities and Max remembered that he hadn't ever gone over them with Quin before.
"I can manipulate gravity on myself or things I touch. Direction, strength, stuff like that. The window thing? That was me making myself weightless to jump from the fifth floor with that girl they had captive. The guy I threw down the hallway. I just changed gravity so he fell sideways instead of down and let his weight do the rest," He explained. "It gives me a few handy tricks but nothing too impressive."
It wasn't like he and Lazer eyes or could burst into flames. Max always found his ability lackluster, whether it was because he had simply gotten so used to it that it felt mundane or because he had seen some of the flashier abilities out there.
"What about you? I assume your power isn't water bottle manipulation." He asked

She was having difficulties. Max watched as Noel started listing to one side. She waved her arms and then curled up in pain as she headed back towards the kitchen. Was she hurt? She moved like she had an injury in her side. How had she gotten hurt? Max was about to ask when he saw her bump against the refrigerator and then rocket off towards him.
Sometimes it was easy to forget that people did have the same experiences as you. For Max years of practice and precision training had made him acclimated to moving in all types of gravity. He made it a practice to work out under boosted gravity to build his body's muscles and flew frequently to make sure he was used to the feeling of "falling" in multiple directions.
As Noel approached him Max flipped upward. As they were if she collided with him they would both go into the wall. And if he reasserted gravity on himself to brace against the impact she might get hurt. Instead as he found himself facing down and Noel floating quickly beneath him he reached out and grabbed the back of her shirt. He placed the slightest pull of gravity on himself headed downward and then matched it going upward on her to stabilize them in midair.

She was quick and Maxwell found it impossible to get ahold of her. She ran down the hallways and when they reached a tight corner she juked out of his reach and headed down it. Maxwell's momentum carried him past the hall and he had to throw himself backward to go after her.
She was nowhere to be found but as Maxwell looked down the hall he felt a surge of satisfaction. The girl had ran to Jorges garage. The hallway didn't branch further and once inside the only way out was through the bay doors that lead to the tunnel and up to the surface. He pulled his tie off from around his neck and clutched it in his right hand. With his elft he popped the top button of his shirt and let sweet refreshing air enter his lung.
He dropped his power and started walking to the door slowly.
"This doesn't have to end badly. Your determined I respect that. But if you are here for what you say you are here for this is not the way to get it. You will find nothing but trouble down these halls." He called.
Things hadn't escalated to the point where there was no return. Sure she had ran, but both of them could still walk away from this. She hadn't seemed like an adict while they were talking, but her illogical decision to search for the drugs by sprinting through the back offices spoke otherwise.
"Come out and talk. I won't touch you, no one has to get hurt. I'll have you escorted out and give you the name of someone who can get you what you need. Don't make this complicated for either of us " He said as he reached the open doors to the garage

He heard them before he saw them. The engine revving madly as tires screamed in protest to turns. Max let out a little laugh as he listened to what he assumed was the older man and his bear heading up the garage. They burst onto the rooftops triumphantly and Max saw the older man get out, grinning from ear to ear and smoking in celebration. The look on his face when he saw Max made the young mutant fight not to laugh.
"What the hell?!?!? Okay. What the hell is going on here?"
"Well to me it seems like I just got two thousand dollars richer." Max said with a grin.
He glanced around the deserted rooftop and then back at the older man. He allowed himself to float a few inches off the ground.
"I agreed I wouldn't use a car, never said I wouldn't fly." He grinned.
He floated back down to the roof and extended his hand.
"I'd like that in hundreds please, carrying small bills can be a real pain." He finished.

Devon spoke and Max felt like a weight was lifting from him. He had been tense since he returned to life, an unseen pressure barreling down on him. Having Devon talk to him, treat his problems as solvable and his opinions as valid, it meant a lot. Max leaned back in the passengers seat.
"Thanks man, for the job opportunity and the advice. I know I need to reach out to them, and in time I think I'll be ready to." Max said.
He was interested in Haven. Interested in the kind of place it was.
"You tall about Haven and it sounds so cyclical. Help those who need to to find success and then they help more poeple who need it. It sounds like a noble goal but what's the end game?" He asked, "just to reach as many as you can. Not that I'm complaining I could use all the help I can get."
He pulled his legs up into the seat and sat Indian sale beside Devon. He liked the guy, hell despite himself he found himself looking up the man.
"So boss," He said with a playful smile, " What's your story? You seem so interested in everyone else and helping them but what makes Devon tick."

The man agreed to partner up and they settled in a comfortable pace apart and away from the rest of the class. The man offered his name as Michael and extended his hand in a greeting.
"Max" He replied shaking Michael's hand.
He saw Michael raise his hands in a ready stance and Max analyzed his partner. His palms were open for grappling and his weight was distributed well. He obviously knew what he was doing. Max raises his hands up in a ready stance and opened his hands into open palms as he placed one foot slightly in front of the other.
"Y' got much experience?"
Max gave a small shrug in response.
"Mostly self taught. Learned a bit of this and bit of that. Picked up some stuff from street fights. You" He asked.
He shifted his weight and thrust an open palm strike with his left hand. It was a feint and he quickly pulled his arm back and sent a quick jab from his right at the last moment.
Always good to test an opponents reflex time when starting a fight.

For a moment Max thought she was going to say no. He stood under the girls critical gaze and held his tray awkwardly. Finally she moved her books and made a place for him and he let out a sigh of relief. He sat and she remarked on her paper.
"Sounds like he's just giving more busy work to keep you guys going," He said with a smile, "What's your paper on?"
She asked him about his course load and Max felt his face redden. She thought he was a student already. He took a small bite of his sandwich as he pondered a response. Somehow "actually I'm a bit of a loser and I'm not taking any classes yet" seemed like a bad reply. He finished chewing and addressed her.
"You could say I have the lightest course load. I haven't taken anything yet. I had a tour today looking at taking some summer classes to get started." He said.
He opened the binder and showed her the brochures and paperwork sitting in it.
"Figure better to start late than not at all." He said sheepishly.

Max listened to Shelby attentively, nodding at the appropriate times. Despite her causal attitude Max felt like she was passionate.
If other people like it enough to purchase it? Awesome."
Max grinned at the statement. He knew the feeling, he'd been hired to perform before and those moments had been great. Other times he felt like he wasn't being taken seriously as a performer because he danced.
"Understandable. I work at a club, I end up being asked to dance a lot by customers. They seem less interested when they realize my shirt is staying on." He said with a sad laugh.
She pondered the nature of true art, of its lasting power and Max found himself agreeing with her.
"I totally agree. Each painting a person makes is a statement by them no matter how simple it might be. It's true anyone can throw paint on a canvas, but those who really have something to say. It sticks out, and that lasts." He replied.
She seemed perturbed by something and Max followed her gaze as she remarked. In a sea of clown paintings he saw a man talking excitedly with a fellow who seemed less than. Max stifled a laugh as Shelby grabbed another drink.
"That man's statement is that clowns are sad. Not quite groundbreaking is it?" He said with a chuckle, "are you made to come to these shows often. Pardon the observation but it seems like they aren't really your cup of tea."

"I guess that the next question is...what do you want to do about it?"
It was the million dollar question. What did he want to do about it? Ever since he had come back to life Max had been stumbling through life, rolling with the punches and trying to make his new path. Now was the time he decided what kind of man he wanted to be. One who ran away from his problem or one who faces the challenges his life has brought.
"I need to go see if my body is in that grave and I need to hear my parents side of the story. I don't know what is going to happen when I do but if I don't I'll always be wondering." He said.
He took a drink of the water and gave Quin a determined look. She was already going out on a limb for him by looking into his case. How much more could he ask of the detective? It seemed he would have to ask a bit more.
"If you came with me you could talk to my parents and see what they know. We can look at my grave and get some answers. I know it's a lot to ask but I think it's my only chance to find out." He said quietly.

She shook her head when prompted about her power. This was a mystery Max would just have to wait on. Maybe after he English improved. She took his hand and Max expanded his field of gravity over her, allowing her to float up beside him. A grin spread across her face, probably the first legitimate smile from her Max had recieved. She seemed overjoyed at the experience and Max felt his heart swell, he loved making people happy
-"Swim now?"
Max let out a laugh as the quation. He remembered how disorienting his first time messing with gravity had been. If he wasn't clumsily floating through his bedroom he was helplessly pinned to the floor after accidently doubling the gravity on himself.
"Just shift your weight in the direction you want to go. No gravity means any force you exercise will be the direction you head." He explained.
He tensed his chest and shifted his weight upward as an example. Slowly he rose higher nearly touching the ceiling. He shifted left and started floating out into the middle of the living area. He spun and offered his hand.

The man took the bet and Max nodded. As the older man went to enter the car Max started stretching. Crossing arms one over the other, a few quick lunges. This was going to be interesting. The man got in the car and started a count down. Max got ready to run. Before he say go however, the car took off, tires screeching. Max watched the car speed off.
"Not one to play fair huh? You just wait." He said to himself.
He sprinted across the street and onto an alley. Now came the fun part. With a surge of his power Max turned gravity upside down. He flipped in the air as he rose upward and crested the rooftops. Drive as fast as you like, you still have to use streets, Max however could make a straight line.
He angled himself toward the parking garage and them changed gravity. He was propelled forward at double earth's gravity and shot through the sky like a rocket. He was nervous about being seen, but most people down on Earth were too busy with their own day to look up.
He fell between two office buildings and spotted the garage off in the distance. His speed picked up as he fell uninterrupted sideways. Using his power to fly was all about force, acceleration, and mass. Hurling along at twice the speed of gravity gave him roughly 28 meters per second. His terminal velocity would be somewhere over two hundred miles an hour but he would never reach that speed in my five blocks. Instead as he approached the garage he let his power go.
He fell down towards the roof at a breakneck speed. Going fast was easy, slowing down was not. He reversed gravity on himself, fighting to slow down before finally placing a bubble of zeros gs on himself. He skidded to a halt on the edge of the roof and stumbled a few steps. Made it. He leaned against the railing of the roof in plane sight of the only entrance ramp to the roof.
