The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Max gave a little laigh. Janelle seemed like a pretty straight forward girl. She gave direct answers and had a cloud of truthfulness and honesty surrounding her that was quite refreshing in this day and age.
"I know what you mean. Virginia was nice but I lived in a city where a ten minute drive could get you to farms and ranches. Not to mention the somewhat outdated moral and social situations" He replied.
Max watched in surprise as the girl held out a flower and the thing seemed to bloom in her palm. It swelled in size and the colors flared in a vibrant flash of life and energy. Max could smell spring itself imitating from the flower and he gave a little impressed whistle.
"Plant stuff. Shocking right? Don't be too impressed
"Explains a lot of the botany stuff. That's pretty amazing though. How much power do you have? I mean you literally interact with life itself. I'd say that's worth being impressed about." He replied.
He gave the room another glance and pulled the tab he had been fiddling with off the can. With a small effort of power he sent his energy over it and it floated a few inches above his open palm.
"I like to think I have some fun tricks too." He said with a flirtatious grin.
Initially everything went off as planned. Max was able to throw his power over Michael and send the man upward. Unfortunatly Max hadn't expected the man to move quick enough to seize him by the leg and pull him with him.
As Michael soared upward Max followed being dragged upward by the man's arm. He aimed a kick at the man's arm with his free leg hoping to break the grip but the ceiling was quickly approaching. Michael tucked in for impact, and action that at his current weird angle Max couldn't replicate.
Instead Max put an equal gravity going down on himself, it would alow the momentum of the fall significantly and his muscles gave a scream of protest as twin forces pulled in opposition directions. He lurched forward and his hands hit the metal ceiling first. He gave another twist of his leg trying to break free and threw himself to the side hoping to skid across the ceiling and grab a support beam to brace himself. With Michael's brute strength the fear of snapping am ankle was a real threat and Max swore trying to get away from the man.

Being stared down by a seemingly sentient ventriloquist dummy is an incredibly uncomfortable experience. The blue eyes bored into him and he wished he knew what the little man was thinking. That was followed quickly by the thought of how stupid it was to be contemplating the thought process of an inanimate object. After a moment the dummy turned and returned to its owner and his car.
Rhett said his goodbyes and Max gave him a nod. Usually after losing a few grand on a bet someone wouldn't just bail. Rhett was obviously not just any old someone.
"We're mutants kid. We gotta look out for each other."
Something wasn't sitting right with Max. He had originally thought Rhett was a senile old man. He was slowly getting the impression that he was something far more dangerous. He had made a remark about breaking rules, and earlier had mentioned a guy from a bank. Somehow Max didn't think he was an angel.
"And what business is it of yours?" His inner self asked.
"Depends on who gets hurt if he's trying anything." He countered.
He had a decision to make. He could go about his business, stay out of the guys way, or...
Max reached the edge of the roof and saw Rhett car barrel out of the garage. Max leapt off the roof and to one nearby, running and keeping a bit of distance behind the vehicle. He'd just see where the guy was heading, no harm in that.

Max tried to clamp down the nervousness he felt bubbling up inside him. He could perform in front of crowds, but sitting here trying to win a job had his palms sweating.
I'n not one sore duh line-light, so I'n not sure 'at sorta skill it de-nands."
It was a gentle push to get him on track. Subtle, but very kind. Max felt for a moment that perhaps Chief had a sweet soft side despite her tough exterior. He shuffled a little in his seat
"Well memorization is important, I could probably memorize a whole tables order without writing it down. Shows have long rehearsal hours where your busy so shift work is a piece of cake." He began.
He leaned in slightly towards the woman.
"To be honest from the looks of some of the clientele here it wouldn't hurt to have someone who knows how to deal with divas." He said with a small laugh and a little point.
He saw a woman sitting at a table off in the distance who seemed to be discussing her drink with the server with a flash of annoyance on her face.

Agnes dismissed herself to go perform and Max gave her an appreciative nod. She seemed pleasant and Max was glad to have good company to work with him at Haven. Sletvana turned to him.
"So... you perform too? Are you a musician?"
Max gave a small smile, "I play guitar but I'm nothing amazing on it. Dance is my real passion."
Max gave a look around the room. Large high society social events such as this were not the normally accepted place to cut a rug. Max looked back at the blonde.

Elliot took the card and looked at it for a moment. Max could almost see the thoughts conflicting inside the man. He was a knot in the center of a massive rope and two giants were pulling on each side. Elliot had attacked the triad out of a sense of justice, had killed the hatchet man in self defense, but there was a darker nature behind those actions. One of the Giants would have to let go, or eventually the rope would be the thing to tear.
Max nodded as Elliot stopped. This was a delicate moment. You didn't push too much. You offer help and then you let the person make a choice.
"Guess you can tell me more while we walk? Otherwise, it'll just be awkward silence after fighting ninja"
Max gave a small laugh, " I do hate the awkward post ninja silence."
They continued to exit the subway and Max gave a small sigh.
"More than a year ago I died. Sounds crazy I know, but it's true. I came back somehow, I don't know how a few months ago. I had nothing; no home, no job, no idea what to do. I met the leader of Haven. He helped me and do you know what he wanted from me in return? What kind of crazy request he made of the man whose life he had literally helped rebuild?"
He let the silence hang for a moment.
"He wanted me to help others. Simple as that. Like the golden rule multiplied by a hundred. They gave me work to do, volunteer work at shelters, visiting people who society didn't want, stuff like that." He said.
He looked up to the darkness above and smiled.
"Yeah it sounds like a bad after school special, don't get me wrong I know there are battles to be fought, because someone has to, but Haven gave me things to do that dare I say made me like myself and people around me. That's the only pitch I can give you, the rest you'll just have to decide for yourself." He said with a shrug.

The phone was unceremoniously plucked from Maxwell's hand and he looked up in surprise to see the girl floating out above the cars. She bobbed above him in a familiar fashion, a very familiar fashion. It was his power, or something very similar. He hadn't met many people who could float, fewer who could fly.
It also raised the question of her intent. Ambrosia gave normal people mutant powers, but as far as Maxwell was aware the drug did little for mutants. If she already had a power why come here for drugs? It didn't make sense.
He would have explored the thought further if not for her words. Her voice rang out condescending and she mentioned calling his mother...
A storm of buried emotions flared up within Maxwell. "Mom" was a contact in his phone he had had since he was a boy, it was also a number he had not called since he was a young teenager. The thought brought back memories of a sad child sitting on a couch waiting for parents who would never return. Of funerals and foster homes and the smile of a woman who would never again speak to him.
He'd had what four phones? Five? Since her death, and every time he would come to that contact, and find himself unable to delete it. The reminder slammed into him and the storm unleashed itself into a surging fury.
"Give it back!" He shouted, his voice ringing in the room.
He jumped, instinctively channeling his power directly at the girl and felt himself hurling towards her like a battering ram. He drew back a leg and swung it at her midriff in a powerfull kick to the stomach. She was young, she was a girl, but he didn't care. Propelled by anger, sadness, and loss. She had no way of knowing that his mother was dead, there had been no intentional malice in her statement, but he didn't care. He had only one thought.

here's a calm it's normally because there's a storm on the way."
He sounded like a soldier. And Max assumed in his own way that was exactly what he was. Max had not experienced the things Geo had, had not faced life and death in the name of the defenseless. It changed a man. Max had heard stories of soldiers who came home and became anxious in the quote "civilized" world. Geo had that look to him, like a tiger tensed to pounce the moment it found prey.
He listened to Geo's evaluation of his tools and Max gave a proud smile and puffed out his chest. It was true, the toys had saved him in a number of dicey situations and the young mutant found himself always looking for new ways to expand his abilities. Having tricks up your sleeve was always a good thing.
"Are they normally weightless too? How do you compensate without gravitational pull?"
Max shook his head, "nah normally I'm under just as much gravity of anyone else. It's an effort of will that changes it. My powers wraps around me or others like plastic wrap, coating them in a layer of gravity I control."
He pulled out a coin from his fanny pack and held in I'm his palm.
"I can change the direction and force of gravity. Meaning one touch and you could find yourself floating in the air helpless. Or..." He said.
He sent his power into the coin and it flew across the room, pulled by an unseen force double that of gravity. It stuck into the wall nearby and vibrated for a moment before settling.
"I can effectively make down any direction I want. Makes fighting groups easier. When your stuck standing on the wall it's hard to jump up and get me." He concluded.

Max saw her flinch away from him slightly as they hovered there. It was no surprise, the transfer of knowledge had been oddly intimate and now in the piercing silence that followed he found himself turning a bit red.
"How was I supposed to know he'd been raised in a bilingual household?"
It was the longest sentence he had heard her speak and it startled him. It was proof enough that her power had worked but from his perspective he found the sensation strange. She was using his memories to speak, and as he focused on what she had said he picked up on some of his own vocal cues. The slight elongation of vowels in the middle of words, the nonchalant and popping p at the end of the word "cop". All together it was a tad unsettling.
He stomach gave a loud growl.
Could we... start over? Like, maybe on the ground"
He gave a hearty laugh and lowered them to the kitchen floor, his feet settling on the cool tiles.
"Of course. Wanna grab some plates and I'll put everything together." He said.
He started stirring pasta and sauce and assessed his own feelings. Aside from a rather pleasant make out session the use of her ability had not been anything that really effected him. The implication needed to be addressed however.
"So," He began giving her a nervous look out of the corner of his eye, "did you just like download my life history? Now that we can communicate I'd love to hear how it works"

Are you one of those rare people who are actually from New York?"
Xaviers alum huh? Interesting. Max took another drink of his coke and lazily played with the tab on the can. Janelle had been a student at the mansion, which made it very likely she was a mutant. Pieces began to fall into place and Max gave a charming grin.
" me? Nah I'm from Virginia. Richmond to be precise. It's a city yes, but nothing like here. Moved here a few years back." He said with a shrug.
The lunch crowd seemed to be thinning, turning the gentle roar of conversations to something more skin to simple background rumbling. Max leaned in slightly and looked at Janelle. Hells bells she was pretty, might as well go in for the real stuff.
"So what's your power?" He asked curiously quirking a brow.

Damn this guy was good.
Usually slapping double gravity on someone slowed them down significantly. But more than that it put them off guard, suddenly finding yourself struggling against a force you usually didn't even think about.
Michael took it in stride. Max would try to flank only to see the man turning with him, he was slower but also didn't have to cover any distance to keep Max in his sight. His arms were up to protect his head and every time Max got withing range he was forced back by a series of shin kicks. All and all it added up to Max once again being forced to think of a new strategy.
Great.
He fought to think and the inkling of a theory began to form in his mind. Michael was huge now, a solid force of muscle, but it had happened in phases as the augmented gravity took effect. When Max had hurled himself at the man he hadn't increased in power until Max had thrown his weight in him. Every time Michael used his power it had been reactionary. Which meant that might be part of how it worked, in response to external stimulus.
Max filed the idea away, it would be handy but wouldn't help him out of his current predicament. Max glanced up and looked at the ceiling. Metal beams stood above him and the ceiling was made of metal supported by them. Bingo. He rushed straight at Michael and threw a mock punch at the man. He stepped into range of the kicks, pulled his fist back, and jumped upward over the man.
Lighter gravity made the leap superhuman and he rose a solid three feet over the hulking man. He flipped and brought a leg down in a kick, spreading his power down his limb. Hitting Michael wouldn't cause any damage, but he had his power ready to spring out and reverse gravity on the man. Sending him upward with the same force holding him down. Max couldn't land a serious blow, but Michael's own weight might be able to.

. Of course, the present LGBT and mutant rights needs are high as are urban education and other educational investment.”
Max nodded. It made sense really, Devon was a mutant, he knew first hand the prejudice thag existed. Some people would become bitter, cold against the onslaught of negativity. These same feelings had gone on to breed violence and desth. Devon was taking that same issue, same pain, and twisting it to the positive.
"... It’s why I started volunteering at Sanctuary to help in a mutant-friendly environment"
So it wasn't just a white Knight complex after all. Devon had lost everything; family, home, self identity. Max had experienced enough trouble dealing with his powers even with a decent support system at home. Having no one could lead down a bad road. Well a bad road that in this case led to owning multiple companies and probably enough money to fill a swimming pool with.
Max found his respect for Devon growing. Max had some problems when it came to authority, especially the corporate kind of guys, but none the less Devon was dare he say it...Cool.
“Did I even answer your question?”
Max finished his coffee and gave a thumbs up as he slurped up the last of the whipped cream.
"Absolutly. I'm sorry about your loss." He said allowing the words to hang in the air for a moment," I get it. It's bad enough when a vanilla person goes off the deep end and starts lashing out. Add in superhuman abilities and it's a recipe for disaster. I have to say, I like your solutions."

...and the other night you were well in your way to my bad side.
Max gave a wry smile in response to the statement as she continued her explanation of power. In retrospect it was incredibly lucky that things had turned out the way they had. He had Quin on his side for this investigation, and despite her terse exterior Max felt like there was a good choice we were going to become friends. Beat the hell out of spending a night in jail and paying some boatload of fines.
She said she had some calls to make and Max gave a terse nod.
"Sounds good. I have to run down some things on my end, unrelated to this case" He added.
Haven business was up, and Max needed to get started on it. The indulgence of investigating his own death was important but he had other responsibilities.
"Give me a call if you find anything. I'll be in touch. Once I get my schedule sorted we can plan our trip." He said.
He offered his hand to her again this time his face set.

Max felt like he had him, up until the man's chest inflated like a balloon. He swung Max around and alarm bells started ringing in Max's ears. He had used his powers first, but now that he knew he was up against another mutant he could rely on that. What could the guy do? From the way he Rag dolled Max he assumed super strength.
Unfortunatly the whiplash wasn't the actual attack and Max found himself heading quickly to the mat. Gravity was pulling him towards Michael but the man was as strong as an ox and seemed unconcerned with the extra weight. As he flew downward Max doubled gravity on Michael and the dancer's body smashed into the mat.
His head was spinning and he felt himself being released by Michael. His body ached all over and he felt the sudden urge to just stay down.
"Unless you can get a lot heavier, that ain't gunna work."
Max pulled himself up and faced the man. He saw the instructor coming over to check on him after his heavy hit. Max threw out an arm.
"Back off. I'm fine." He called to the teacher.
He pulled his focus back on Michael.
"So you have some moves too. I'm impressed that really rung my bell. I'll tell you I can't get heavier, but you just did. Alot heavier." He replied.
Max took a fighting stance. Michael had grown when he used his power. And with double gravity increasing in size meant a significant increase in weight. Max might be able to slow him down. He lowered gravity on himself and took a step the side.
"Keep up." He said.
He rushed Michael, trying to stay out of his grasp and circle him. He hoped to find and opening or tire the man out.
