The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Oh great, meet someone new, have a bad day and start scaring them off minutes after meeting them, well done, Richard said to himself as he observed the lady position herself as far as technically possible from him in the elevator.
"I came here to work"
"May I ask what work do you do?"
He was curious as to her profession.
"So... vat makes you think you are mutant? Vat strange things have happened to you lately?..."
Hmm, that would make an interesting story, and Richard evaluated how much he should tell her as they walked to the bagel shop. After they had ordered and sat down he continued.
"Well you could say a series of strange occurrences. Please stop me if I am starting to bore you." This was probably the first time anyone had asked him about this. Then again this was the first time he had told anyone about this so in a way he asked to be put in this situation. Considering that his life had recently taken a turn into crazy land and there were not really that many people, well anyone he could share it with. It was down to sharing life's crazy occurrences with strangers , and a young one at that, she looked to be at most early twenties? He thought with a sigh.
"... So I am still not sure if that was just by chance or what. So as far as I can tell, If I am indeed a mutant, I have two abilities," Richard continued hoping he was not boring the lady who still had not given her name. "The first is the ability to understand devices and mechanisms and the second is to manipulate them, to mould, shape, fix or break."
Richard paused for a breath, was she bored? She did not appear to be, if anything she looked interested, possibly understanding? Thus encouraged, Richard continued. (OCC appeared only, feel free to react as you wish)
"Usually I have to expend a lot of mental effort to activate either of the two powers, if that is what they are and I am not going crazy. But I don't know if it is coming to New York or you or running, my powers have been going a little crazy of late. For example when we were going off the rooftop past the discarded backpack, my hand brushed against the door and I just wondered, just for a second how it worked, immediately diagrams and information exploded in my head, how the door lock was made, the pin positions needed to make it lock and unlock etc., the same thing happened in the lift. If I am not careful I will get information overload. I have not even thought of using my second ability, what happens if I accidentally push something out of shape? I dread to think what could happen although the scientist in me is tempted to experiment with something small like this disposable plastic cup."
Richard took a deep breath. "Hence the statement about strange things."
Well that was a bit more than he intended to say but he had said it now, there was no turning back. Would she laugh at him? Would she get scared and run away? Would she? Could she understand? What were the odds that he was actually talking to another mutant who understand the challenges of discovering and living with mutant powers? No, he told himself, that would be lovely but unlikely. What was more likely was that the lady would probably brand him as crazy at best dangerous at worst and he would never see her again or worse she would call some mutant control group to lock him away or something. Richard awaited the verdict.

"Woosters, is purely brilliant."
Richard smiled, he enjoyed the genuineness of Margo. He reflected on the strangeness of the encounter. He had entered the shop with the intention of having some coffee and spending some time reading and clearing his head. To allow himself some processing time to adjust to the big change of moving, of leaving the familiar university environment where he was comfortable and secure. The status change of no longer being a student. These were big changes. Instead he had accidentally startled a poor girl minding her own business and ended up chatting with her. Was he being too intense? Was he scaring her off? Richard was an intense person, his mind moved quicker than most and experience had taught him that he was not only deeper than most his age but also more intense. He had in the past scared away people. Bad experiences in his past cautioned him against opening up to people too quickly, and he usually did not. Margo seemed genuine however but then again people could seem to be, there were a lot of people good at deception out there. Richards thoughts turned back to the present in time to catch what Margo was saying.
"It's a whimsical tale featuring an eighteenth-century cow creamer, a small leather-covered notebook, and a policeman's helmet, of all things, Bertie Wooster- believe me, quite the narrator- and his gentleman's gentleman, Jeeves, manage to get caught up in this whole plot."
This book sounded rather fun. Perhaps Richard would look it up either in the library or see how much it was on Kindle. He laughed as he heard the part about the helmet and the pure "Britishness" of the name Jeeves.
"I suppose it may disappoint you, then, that it's not a romance. But it's really packed full of allusions, British humor, if that's your sort of thing. The plot thickens..."
"No, it does not disappoint me at all, you should consider a job as a sales person, you have peaked my interest in this book, I will see how much it is on Amazon. I said I was a romantic at heart, means that I delight in seeing love blossom and bloom, that does not mean that romanse is all I look for in reading material."
Richard smiled then continued.
"I also enjoy a great range of fiction and science fiction. I guess I enjoy books that inspire me. In the Lord Peter Wimsey books, it is that justice prevails and I can see examples of genuine friendship. I also enjoy books like the Gaunt's Ghosts series. Set in the Warhammer 40k universe it is about a comissar who is given only one regiment of men, men who are demoralized, angry and have just lost their home planet. Throughout the books he forges them into a cohesive fighting force, he unites them, gives them hope, he reignites their passion for life. It... It is amazing, and I find it inspiring."
Richard realized he was rambling, perhaps he was revealing more of himself that he should. But then again he was talking about something he passionately enjoyed. Hastly he added
"How about you, what other genre of books do you like, and what draws you to them?"

"It's nice to meet you, Richard. I'm Margo. Uh, sorry I guess. For taking your preferred seat."
Richard extended his hand. "Well Margo, it is a pleasure to meet you." and solemnly shook her hand (OCC I home you don't mind a teeny bit of Gmodding) There was no mockery, just one book lover to another. Some might have found the sight amusing, a 26 year old man solemnly shaking the hand of a 15 year old girl. But In Margo Richard sense a genuine love for books and a genuineness of character.
"Nonsense, firstly I only prefer it because it is usually out of the way, secondly you have as much right to it as I do and thirdly if you had not taken this seat we might not have met, and that would be very sad, very sad indeed." His eyes twinkled as he smiled.
"To be honest, Code of the Woosters is the only work of P.G. Wodehouse I have had the pleasure of reading," she said, raising her face from the pages of aforesaid novel. "It's lighthearted humor at its best, but I like it."
"So what is the book about, the code of the woooosters." Richard smiled slightly. "I'm sorry, I have a hard time saying the name and keeping a straight face, woooosters." he chuckled.
"I like the books by Dorothy L. Sayers, it is set when England is changing from a class based society (when lords had servants and butlers and such) to what we see today, and in the midst of all of that in comes Lord Peter Wimsey and his marvellous butler, Bunter. They solve crimes and help out Chief inspector Parker of Scotland Yard. I love the depth that she goes into, the detail, the depth of the characters. And I must confess to be a bit of a romantic at heart. So what is Woooosters about?"
he hoped he was not boring the girl. Who knows maybe this was the beginnings of a friendship.

"I know a place dat does bagels. It's a New York ting."
"That sounds excellent, please, lead on!"
Richard smiled.breakfast sounded good!
"Welcome to New York."
Richard laughed, "Why thank you, I feel most welcomed!"
He followed her through the door brushing the handle of the door as he did so. A passing thought slipped through his mind 'I wonder how this work...' He never got a chance to finish the thought as a torrent of information hit Richard like a slap in the face.
Suddenly in his minds eye appeared exploded blueprints of the door, the knowledge of how it went together, what it was made of, how it was assembled, the approximate pin heights to turn the tumbler to lock or unlock the door, as well as a sense that the door would break soon.
Richard faltered in his steps and leant against the wall for a moment to gather his thoughts. Luckily the lay, who still had not given her name, had her back to him.Still he wondered was he going mad? What in the world was happening to him?
"So, what brings you to de city? Are you studying here?"
Richard collected himself just in time to hear the question directed him in a pleasant Russian accent.
As they got in the lift Richard began to answer her.
"Well, I have just finished graduated with my second masters, and felt like it was time to explore the world, get a real job, go somewhere new, make new friends.." Richard paused as he hit the button in the lift for the ground floor.
One stray thought lead to another tidal wave of information about the panel, and the circuitry behind it.Richard snatched his hand away from the panel accidentally brushing against the lift doors as he did so. Bam! Information about the door mechanism exploded into his mind. Richard braced himself against a wall making sure this time to keep clear of any mechanisms or electronics. This was getting insane, he was not sure how much more he could take before his brain overloaded.
Should he tell her? he asked himself. Sure she was pretty, but then again beauty was just an outer shell, a shroud over the character beneath. Should he open up more? Should he tell her the other reason for coming to New York. he decided to go for it. If "pretty lady" turned out to be shallow, she would probably be put off, and worst case scenario they might have breakfast and go their separate ways. But... But if she turned out to have depth, Richard may have found the makings of a new friend.
He continued " And.. and.." He hesitated, this was something he was struggling with and he was about to share it with a woman he hardly knew, but he was going slightly mad with it all. He bit the bullet and went on.
"..And to perhaps discover if I am a mutant or not. Alot of strange things have been happening to me lately, even more so this morning, and perhpas i hoped that by coming here I might discover if I am a mutant or just simply going mad."
There it was out. He had revealed a slightly vulnerable side of himself. part of him hoped that she was shallow and this would scare her off, part of him hoped that she would want to know more and ask him about it.

"Oh, thank you but no thank you."
Apparently Richard had startled that slender brown eyed long haired reader. Richard mentally sighed, he had not intended for that to happen at all. He hoped he did not come off as creepy in any way. If Richard was anything, he was genuine, he rarely lied, was not very good at it and rarely embelished. New in town and already scaring people, he was going to be a hit he thought sarcastically.
"If you are sure."
He trailed off as the girl got to her feet.
"The Code of the Woosters, by P. G. Woodhouse, Shallow but hilarious."
Richard signalled to a passing waitress that he wanted a refill and sat back down gesturing to the young teenager to feel free to take a seat.
"Please don't stand on account of me."
Richard said while smiling. He liked this kid, she was sort of endearing and cute. He adsently mindedly wondered if someone of her age would find that offensive and decided not to verbalize it.
"I have never had the pleasure of reading P. G. Woodhouse, what is he like as an author? I am reading Strong Poison by Dorothy L. sayers. Good writer, set after the second world war, murder mystery, very riveting. I am Richard by the way. I hope I didn't startle you."
He hoped this conversation would continue. He always enjoyed getting to know new people.

"My name is Danny de Carabas, in interest of full disclosure, and I -"
Hmm, mr mysterious and slightly creepy with proper slightly pompous sounding name "de Carbas" was playing it straight! Something Richard could respect. When in the profession of an engineer, one often needed to sift through titanic amounts of hot air to get at the plain straight forward truth. Listen to a client wax lyrical and poetic about some project they want you on for hours in order to distil their requirements down to one single sided, double spaced sheet of project requirements and specifications.
So when Mr "de Carabas" started off by not playing mysterious and creepy but straight out identified himself he earned a point in his favor. He then proceeded to state the intent for full disclosure, for that he just earned himself an additional point. If he then suited action to words he would earn many many many more points, as Richard placed a high value on truth, honesty and keeping ones word. Richard also had a hatred for half truths.
"Dude, are you at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden?"
Hmm he sounded surprised, and Richard noted the change in tone and language from formal to street slang, such as "dude". Hmm this could indicate that Mr de Carbas was of the millennial generation or at least no older than late 30's. Once again, the previously displayed indications of power and resources displayer by Mr de carbas counciled Richard to maintain a professional polite air when replying.
"Umm.. That is correct Mr de Carbas, why do you ask?"
Was this another showing off of Mr de Carbas's wide variety of resources? Who was this man? someone who perhaps worked for some secret organization? Should he be on his guard for unmarked black vans or the like? The callers' next statement dispelled that, slightly.
"Er, hold on, I'm headed to you."
Richard turned to see a lithe muscular man stride confidently toward him. Mr de Carbas looked young but something in his posture cautioned Richard against any such assumption. There was something in the set of his shoulders, in they way he held himself the way he walked that indicated that he had perhaps experienced much sorrow and trouble and was far wiser that his years or that he was far older that he looked. If it was the latter, either Mr De Carbas had undergone a plethora of life changing rejuvenation treatments or he aged extremely well indeed. But what was with the metal glove? Part shadow figure with unknown resources and part thug perhaps?
"Very well, see you soon."
This was turning out to be more interesting that Richard had first anticipated. Richard hung up and patiently waited to meet MR DE CARBAS.

Ah the joys of sleeping in. Richard guessed he should make the best of those days before he started work, When he started work, which was still an unknown factor. Wondering along the streets he chanced across a delightful little coffe shop. The smell was enticing. Entering he ordered a latte, searched for a prefered corner booth seat but found it was already taken by a young girl deeply engrossed in a book.
Choosing instead to sit in a nearby seat, Richard contented to sip his latte and continue consuming his current literary work of choice, Dorothy L. Sayer's book "Strong Poison". Richard was enjoying his book immensely until his revere was interrupted by the discovery that he had finished his coffee. Sighing, he rose to order another when, struck with a fit of generosity he turned and asked the girl in the corner.
"Sorry to bother you but I am about to order another coffee, could I get a fellow bibliophile anything?"

Richard was exploring, soaking up the sights, sounds and smells (both good and at times unsavoury) of this new and unfamiliar city. His future was uncertain, he was a ship without a sail waiting to see where the winds of fate and the sea of job offers would take him. Truth be told, he was also a little lonely. It had been more than a year since he had broken up with his girlfriend and he was ready to move on. He was by no means desperate to be in a relationship, Richard was happy enough being single and would only consider dating if the relationship showed potential of becoming long term. He was also missing friends, so many of his university friends were now all over the country ranging far and wide, each starting their own seperate adventures. Ah but this slightly melancholic thinking was getting him nowhere.
After sampling some of New York's famous pizza and finding it to his liking he started to amble around in hopes of finding some distraction from his melancholic mood. It was a sudden impulse that prompted him to stroll into the first descent looking bar he came to. As he took of his cap and his gloves (it was chilly outside), his eyes observed with interest the interestingly shaped craters in the floor. Stepping aside to let what appeared to be the poor and sorry remains of a TV exit the door courtesy of a workman, he made his way to the bar.
What went on in this bar, he thought. He was dressed smartly in a bomber jacket and nice jeans, a smart casual look. Was he over dressed? he was not sure. He looked behind the bar.
"Can I have an Angels Envy, neat please?" He asked in his deep faintly british accent.

Richards phone rang. There was nothing unusual in that aside from the fact that Richard had just changed numbers and had given this number to no one. Richard did not think that marketing companies would be that efficient. So it was with more curiosity than anything that he answered the phone.
"Hello? Is this Richard Bent? Because if so, I heard that you were in New York, and I've a job for you. I think you'd be interested."
Richard listened with growing interest. a few things stood out to him. Firstly, as unlikely as it might be, there was no denying that this random stranger, who as yet had no name, could, in fact, turn out to be his new employer so polite replies should be the order of the day. Secondly the fact that Mr Mysterious and slightly creepy had the resources to get his number less than two days after Richard had gotten it evidenced the resources that might be at the caller's fingertips. No conclusion could be drawn yet as there was still to many unknowns.
"Hello, this is indeed Richard, who is this? Your information is remarkably accurate, I have indeed recently arrived in the lovely city of New York and am indeed searching for employment. I assume that if you have gone to the trouble to obtain my less than two day old number that you will also be fully aware of my skills and talents. In that case, I would like to know more about this job offer."

Richard let his extended hand fall back to his sides. He did not mind. Some people just did not like shaking hands. The lady stepped closer. Richard distinctly felt something bordering on indescribable shift. He mentally searched for a moment then he had it. The barriers to his "gifts" seemed a lot more flimsy than usual. Ever since the episode on the mountain side Richard constantly tested the barriers to his gift. hoping that perhaps it would function like a muscle. The more used the less strenuous and painful the process would be and the easier to access. But back to the world at large.
Richard shook his head. "Sorry, still a little out of breath, blood flowing back to brain." He said with a smile. "I just got here, well.. I mean that in more ways than one. I, just arrived in New York as well as this roof top" He paused. "I was chasing the sunrise you see." "Have you been in New York long?" His stomach rumbled. "Say do you know of a place nearby where I can get a spot of breakfast? I am famished".

sure I would be up for that. Care to start one and Richard will bumble in in his usual way. As Richard just arrived in NY and only recently began to suspect that he is a mutant he will not have done research and hence will not know much about the mansion or any of the mutant "places"
