The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Now that the face plate was off, and the inner workings were exposed, Richard next had to carefully remove the eye, dismantle it, clean it, resolder the damaged parts, and reassemble it perfectly all while under the eye of his patient. So no pressure whatsoever. It was not like Ghost gave him any warning that he would be doing surgery when she asked him to have a look and see if you can help a fellow mutant. Richard sighed mentally, braced himself then started to work.
"Right now I am going to remove your damaged eye and repair it. It should not take long."
Ugggggggh it all sounded so clinical and dehumanizing, but he could not think of a better way to put it. He could almost imagine himself saying things like, would you like an eye with an optional X-ray attachment Madam? or how about would you like an extra limb with that Madam?
>“Don't worry. I don't feel pain. At least, I haven't since I went all robot. Maybe I can if I wreck something badly. Though, I really don't want to try that for obvious reasons. Should I shut up and let you concentrate? 'Cause the talking kind of helps.”
So she did not feel pain, that was a relief. Richard mentally sighed with releaf. He had horrible visions of Glitch silently screaming in pain and it would make him feel horrible. Still he had to be careful not to create a short.
"That is good, I would hate to think that I am causing someone pain. As for talking, please carry on. It kind of helps me as well." Richard admitted smiling.
Thankfully the eye came free without a hitch and Richard took it to a table to set about taking it appart. His fingers dexteriousely and deftly opening the clamshell casing that made up both parts of the eye revealing the circuit boards and the ultrasonic motors that controlled movement and zoom. He laid things out neatly and precisely. With micro eletronics precision is vital. Next he setup his magnifying glass and holder and a fine tipped soldering iron and set to work.
"Have you always lived in New York?" He asked trying to make conversation.

>"You can find out how things are built like that? That sounds kinda cool,"
"Mmmm, I guess it is. Though i have to be very careful not to try to "learn" about something too big or complex. There are rather painful consequences."
When Richard "learned how something worked" it was far more than that. It helped the other part of his power, which was molecular manipulation. So when he "learned" imagine the coordinates and attributes for every single molecule of an object suddenly thrust into your brain. Try to absorb too much and..... Richard was just thankful that his brain had a safety switch. If he tried to learn too much his brain would either erase all knowledge and shutdown and leave him with a debilitating migraine for days, or try to process it in chunks wherein he would essentially become comatose until his brain had jolly well finished thank you very much.
>"...Y-you want to... let's just get this over with."
A brave one. It suddenly occurred to Richard that this was the equivalent of doing surgery on a patient. The eye was close to the brain, no matter how you looked at it. The realization was startling. All in all he would have to be very very careful not to short anything out. Thankfully the infirmary had some nifty x-ray machines that worked with pretty much any material so once Glitch had gotten herself comfortable he put on his electricians gloves and set to work. He had no idea what voltage or current he would be dealing with so this was as much for his protection as hers.
So according to the X-rays, the eyes was accessible once the facial cover had been removed... This was... was.. Richard did not even know how to describe the feeling. Should he make conversation? Ask if she could go into standby? Did she feel pain? How do you talk to someone who you are literally removing the face of?
"Umm, I have not done anything like this before either. Let me know if you feel any pain."
A few moments later and Richard gently lifted the... well front cover? of Glitches face. He made a note to take care when putting it back so as not to damage the watertight seal. Right now onto the eye....

When Richard opened the door, he was not sure what he was expecting, but he was not expecting that. Matha leant against the doorway and started crying.
>"No, my car died halfway into the parking space and it's not coming back... The flood started and showed no signs of abaiting. Richard lead her in and closed the door behind them, giving them some privacy. He offered her a box of tissues and a hug. He held her, not saying anything, allowing her to just let it all out.
>"...And I would be hated for being around Gorgers too much!"
The sobs quietened and stopped. "Hey now, you are tired and hungry, come ,eat."
Richard led her to the dining room and soon finished heating up the food. That was another reason he cooked what he did. It was one of thise dishes that did not taste any different when it was warmed up or when it was fresh. Mmmmmm nothing could beat fresh home coocked food, if he did say so himself. Martha seemed to be enjoying it. After they had started tucking Richard gave thought to what Martha had said.
"Martha, as for your car, I am an engineer by trade and I would be happy to see if I can help you fix it, if you would like. You mentioned earlier in the diner about wanting a camper. To me that sounds like a fun project, and I am the sort that like challenges. Will work for interesting problems would be an apt description." Richard smiled and continued. "I have some ideas on building a camper inexpensively if you are interested." He left the invitation open. Truth be told the idea had piqued his interest. Even if she wanted to buy herself one, Richard was more than likely to try to build one anyway. It would be fun! "I am sorry to hear about your family, I cannot imagine what it was like, is like."
Sure Richard grew up in a place where mutants were shunned and treated like dirt but he had not discovered his powers until he was away from home and so was spared the pain and difficulity that he would have otherwise endured. Richard smiled "It's fine, you needed to vent, thank you for trusting me enough to do so to me, I am honoured." "The spare room is yours for as long as you need it, I put fresh sheets on the bed and fresh towels out in case the need arose."
Martha seemed to be a good person in a bad place. Her situation tugged on his heart and he was more than happy to help in any way he could. "Eat as much as you need and get some rest, we can talk more in the morning when you are rested and refreshed."

Ok so some more information was forthcoming. Richard scratched his chin through for a minute then started typing.
< For fluid based cooling that works below freezing, a poor man's trick is to simply add vodka to water, get the ratios right and you have liquid that does not freeze but can still pull away heat. One thought would be to use the circulating water Vodka mix to draw away heat and run it through a heat exchanger that is cooled by the ISOBAR cooler. I would add a few sensors, one to turn the pump onto low if the incoming water temp falls below a set point, that way you conserve power but the fluid will not freeze even at low flow rates. A simple Arduino could serve, the code would be simple. Once then incoming fluid temp is above the min cooling set-point ramp up pump speed in delayed increments till both outgoing temp and return temp are within limits.
As for durability, the cheap option would be to wear a Kevlar vest over it, but a longer term solution would be to make the tube lined vest out of Kevlar in the first place, and perhaps add some shock absorbing padding into the mix as well just make sure that the tubes are as close to your skin as possible. Would that work?>

"Hm? Oh, uh, it started happenin' when I was sixteen. Animals just...love me and listen to what I have to say. I have to admit that it's pretty much history. What about you? When did you start realizin' that you were special."
"Did that ever get you into trouble, or did you ever use your powers to play tricks on people?"
Images formed in Richards mind of animals swarming Derek, another of Derek commanding animals to swarm others or play practical jokes on others. He wondered if Derek ever convinced squirrels to become pickpockets.....
"Me? I found out by accident. It saved my life. I was hiking out in the wilderness, way above the treeline and somehow I wandered off trail and my GPS broke. Stupidly I did not bring a backup map. So in a fit of stupid desperation I tried willing the GPS to fix itself, and well a few migraines later, I found out I could. I was able to fix it, just, without passing out and ran down the mountain being chased by lightening strikes not 100 meters from me."
Richard shuddered slightly at the memory, it had been close. The thunder, the flash, the roar, it had been one part terrifying one part exhilarating.
"That was oh, about 5 years ago. I think that is less common to discover you are a mutant relatively late in life. Just as well too I grew up in a place where things did not go well for you and your family if it was known you were a mutant. How did your family and friends take it? Did they know?"

Hades
When Richard returned home, he set to work. He was going to cook 白斬雞, otherwise known as white cut chicken. Essentially this involves boiling a whole chicken for about an hour to an hour and a half with large chunks of ginger and some salt. This creates a clear yet rich bone broth as almost all of the flavor and nutrients from the chicken have been leached out into the broth. The chicken is then lightly coated with toasted sesame oil cut into small pieces and served with a dipping sauce.
Richard set the chicken on to boil and set the rice cooker going. At the back of his mind he was wagering there was a 80/20 chance she would not show up for a second lunch, and a 50/50 chance she would not show up at all, period. He liked encouraging people and helping where he could. He already had a few ideas about a camper, how to build one inexpensively that would last, but that could come later. Richard was the type of person who could very well wear a sign that read "Will work for interesting problems", he enjoyed challenges like these.
As he made the bed in the spare room, he idly wondered to himself what was Martha's story? It seemed like there was a lot of family stuff going on. Was it like in Chinese culture, where the children are expected to take care of the parents, or in some cases the parents taught the children that they were indebted to them for life? Chinese culture was heavy on relationships, it was what held them together, but there were also plenty of unhealthy ones. Now the dipping sauce. Richard whistled as he diced garlic, green onions, cilantro and ginger, mixed in a little salt and poured a little boiling oil over it to flash fry the ingredients. The flavor it unlocked was amazing. Finally as accompaniment Napa cabbage fried with garlic, oyster sauce and a little chicken broth. There it was done. Now to set the table and wait.
And wait. After about an hour and a half of waiting he figured she was not coming. Still she might come for dinner and Richard had already eaten lunch, so he left the table set and went about sketching out his plans to build a camper.
It was about 4-5 hours later that he heard a knock. The sky had gone dark. Richard was about ready for dinner. The soup had been brought back to a simmer and the smell filled the house. He went to open the door and there stood Martha. Wait was she crying.
"Martha, come in." He said ushering her into his house and closing the door. "Are you ok?" Did she need a hug? Tissues? Food? Richard was not quite sure what to do next.
Richard figured that working on a live.. well cyborg? Robot? Glitch, working on a live Glitch was like a doctor with a patient, it was always better to tell the patient what you were going to do before doing it in order to prevent alarm and violent reactions.
"Right so.. Umm Glitch I am going to place my hand on your head so I can use my mutation." It would probably be a good idea to explain his mutation, so he did so.
"I have the ability to touch most things and see how they work, how they are put together etc."
Richard placed his hand over Glitch's right eye and concentrated. He was also very careful to intentionally JUST concentrate on her eye. The last thing he wanted was to black out when his mutation tried to download the schematics, material properties, grid coordinates of every molecule and their inter-molecular bond strength into his brain at once. He had made that mistake one with a much much smaller object and the migraines had floored him for more than a week while his mind slowly assimilated the information. Even now he could not recall the even without shuddering. Richard cleared his mind and pushed.
*Flash* a high definition camera with digital and limited physical zoom in a spherical housing. *Flash* positioning was accomplished via ultrasonic ring motors set in an elegant yet complex pattern. *Flash* the location of every fastening screw was highlighted on the blueprint that was forming in Richard's mind. *Flash* *Flash*
Richard rocked back slightly and put one hand against the wall behind him for balance while his eyes blinked rapidly. He took a moment, maybe two to gather himself, then straightened and turned to Glitch.
"Right, I think some connectors got knocked loose, nothing a soldering iron cannot fix but I need to..." Was there ever any good or non creepy way to say stuff like this? "Remove your eye and disassemble it. Umm... do you mind?"

Richard sat back and listened patiently to the outburst. As she turned away and stomped out of the diner, Richard actually started smiling. He had seen her heart, he had looked past the words and caught a glimpse of what lied beneath. A porcupine with quills raised yes, but a rather lovable porcupine none the less. Richard paid for both of them and left a generous tip behind. He walked exited the diner and started strolling the streets, not quite sure what he was looking for but he knew that he would know it when he saw it.
He found Martha's car less than a block away. One car that looked like it had some miles on it and could use some TLC, check. One car that looked like someone was living out of it and sleeping on the back seat and had been so for a while, check. One car that had a fuming lady in the back, check. It would probably not do any good to inform said madam that she looked rather adorable when she was mad. No definitely not the right time.
Richard knocked on the window and patiently waited until it screeched down. He smiled at Martha, it was a warm smile that started from the eyes and radiated to the rest of his face, a genuine smile.
"Listen Martha, I really don't want or expect anything from you. All I wanted to say was that I am heading home now to cook a meal for three, I figured you are hungry enough to eat for two. Dinner should be ready in about an hour. Here is my address." He gently placed a napkin on the seat next to her. It had his phone number and the address of his apartment block and his apartment number.
"There is guest parking for free there by the way."
And with that he walked away. He had a meal to cook and a spare bed to make.

Richard did not know what was came over him, but it did.
"Listen Martha, I get that you don't want to impose but this is going too far. You are malnourished, I don;t mean to sound rude but when was the last time you had a good nights rest? or a shower? When I first arrived in the United States, I spent 5 months sleeping on peoples couches while I looked for a job and place to live. I tried to repay them. Some accepted but most refused and told me to "pay it forward" so this is me paying it forward. You are not imposing, There is a spare room in the complex you can kip in, and shower, and while you are doing that I will cook you food that is far more nourishing than fast food. What say you?"
He honestly did not know where that came from. Was he feeling like a protective older brother? No she was practically the same age as him. Was it pity? Dear lord no, He hated pity with a vengeance. Was it affection? He was not sure, probably not, at least not currently. Yes she had a certain beauty about her, but firstly he hardly knew her and Richard was a heart person, and would not just "go for someone" because they looked nice on the outside. Secondly she was acting currently acting like a porcupine, one that had its quills raised. Perhaps it was frustration, seeing someone with a talent and potential yet living on the edge of starvation treating themselves cruelly all because of fear, fear of imposing but there was more to it than that. Richard might not be the most perceptive person in the world but even he could see it. There was much that Martha held inside. The question was, would she let him at least help her up, would she let him in, even a little?

Richard had just finished dinner and was browsing forums. He was a regular on a number of innovator/engineering forums. There were HORROR stories much like r/OSHA or R/JUSTROLLEDINTOTHESHOP, there were genuine suggested innovations, the usual rather quickly banned trolls, all in all a mixed bag but if one searched patiently one would invariably find delightful gems.
Take this new thread for example, a relatively new user, joined a while ago only just posting so exiting the lurking phase, and with a seemingly intriguing challenge. Richard being a mutant himself always liked helping other mutants solve challenges, particularly mutation related ones.
Richard scanned the thread titled "Heat-Intolerant and Fed Up" posted by snowcookies.
Richard hit the reply button.
<Welcome to the site snowcookie. I assume you have looked at things like Veskimo are things of that nature out of your price range? Any chance you could be more specific about your requirements? Temperature, duration, an idea of the environment you would be working in so that you can estimate energy consumption and hazards. All of that would help.
There are also alternatives like using something like ISOBAR to power as suite. Let us know more. Fellow mutant and engineer here, would love to help>

>"Uh.. thanks... Richard... I'm Martha."
Why did he always pick the worst time to start a conversation. He always felt a little bad catching people mid chew. Come to think of it she was eating rather quickly. Was she uncomfortable with him? No, Richard dismissed the idea, she had been eating fast before he even sat down. She looked like she was wolfing down food, like, almost like she had not eaten for a while. Come to think of it she did appear a little gaunt. Not slender as in build or thin as in ones current state of fitness but gaunt, generally caused by not eating enough in the short term. Perhaps she had fallen on hard times?
"Sorry, caught you mid chew." Said Richard apologetically.
"Um, are you ok? You are shaking. Has it been a while since you ate?" Richard was an open book sort of guy. people generally had no problems reading his intentions from his face. There had been a time not so long ago where he had literally couch crashed for about 5 months. Sleeping on couches in different peoples homes. those had been hard times, and he had survived on the kindness of strangers. Pay it forward they said.
"If you need a place to shower or crash for a while....." He paused "One caveat though, I live in a.... mutant friendly apartment block, you either have to be a mutant or pro-mutant to live there..so... there is that.. if you are ok with that and you need it, the offer is there."
Richard dearly hoped that he did not sound creepy, said in a different tone of voice and under different circumstance that could have come out screaming creepy and stalker. The look of genuine concern on Richards face usually put those impressions to flight. He was practical, and was always happy to help those in need.

> "Uhhh, I think that we should be okay. She shouldn't deliberately hurt us, see?"
Richard looked relieved. At least hanging out with Derek and his newfound adoptive mother would be less inducive to concussions. And yes Richard had begun to mentally peg the Meese as Derek's adoptive mother. One did not argue with a telekenetic Moose. Speaking of which, "Derek, does your adoptive mother have a preferred name?"
>"Drinks sound good. Along with some onion rings or fries. Maybe fries. Or wings. As for Madam Meese, I think --, oh, she says that she'll just come back here and 'chill'. She has other meese friends she hangs out with." Though, it is nice knowin' that I have an alley. An animal alley."
Richard laughed. "Well come on then, there is a pub just around the corner." And It would not do to have some worried park ranger come barrelling along convinced that two young men were causing trouble. Richard happily waved farewell to Derek's mother and the two men set off towards sustenance both solid and liquid.
Once they were happily ensconced around a table with a beer in one hand, a side of rings for Derek and a side of cheesy chips for Richard, he turned to Derek. "Does this sort of thing happen often? May I ask when/ how it all began?"
Richard suspected it would be a very interesting story.

>"Pho sounds awesome, Follow me..."
Richard was only too happy to. Using his power to mold on such a (relatively) large scale always gave him an appetite.
As they walked Richard could not help but get a sense that Gina was... feeling... tense? No, perhaps unsure. His impression of her was carefree, perhaps slightly cheeky and playful, was he being too serious? He moved up so he was walking beside her, relaxed, casual. Richard was a peaceful soul and there was something about him that tended to put people at ease after a while.
>"What's Vietnamese iced coffee like? I haven't had it before... is it different from normal coffee?"
Richard laughed. "No, my dear Gina, Vietnamese coffee is drip made. They actually put a mini sieve over your cup and let the coffee slowly drip down, they also mix it with sweet and condensed milk. It it, quite strong, and never fails as a perk-me-up."
Mmmmmm, a good hearty bowl of Pho and a small glass of iced Vietnamese coffee, the evening was sounding better and better. Richard turned to his dappled grey companion. "Are you a coffee drinker? And may I ask what you do as a profession?"
Richard was always interested in hearing other peoples stories, more often then not he found them genuinely fascinating.

>"Uh, we could go stop traffic."
Wait, What? The idea sounded ludicrous at first, well at first. To Richards still fuzzy mind it sounded rather amusing. It had been a long day, work then show new tenant around, then walk then get fired into a tree.
"Well, why not." Said Richard partly in jest.
Derek reached out his hand.
>"You can ride along, too. It'll be like some crazy animal movie or somethin."
Derek did have a point, Richard expected that all too soon out would come the smart phones then invariably a worried park ranger or two would come by asking what was going on and if they were mistreating animals etc. The funny thing was that if the Meese well "attacked" they would have trouble convincing people that the telekinetic blast did not come from either of them. Speaking of which if the Meese "fired off a round" would Derek and Richard also achieve liftoff? He should check.
"Um, Derek, if Madam Meese..." It was always good to be polite to a animal who could both trample you to death and pick you up and fling you into a tree, with its mind. "..fires off another telekinetic blast, will we... be affected?"
>Do you have anythin' in mind? I'm up for literally anythin'"
Richard laughed. "Derek it has been quite I day, I would not mind a drink, but how about Madam Meese here? What does she want? Also is she coming home with you?"
That was something to think about. The apartment was tolerant towards mutants, but Meese? Not much was known about them.

>“You poor thing, ya didn't have to hurry, I didn't mind waiting in the least.”
"It is not polite to keep a lady waiting." said Richard slightly breathlessly.
Thankfully the night air was cool and comfortable.
>“Hmm… Depends on what strikes our fancy. I'm pretty equal-opportunity when it comes to food. There's that pho place a few blocks over, we could get pizza, burgers… ice cream..."
Living at the apartment just kept getting better. Not only was the rent affordable, the location good and the tenants (well those that he had net so far) friendly, but it was also well situated in terms of sustenance options.
"Wow, spoilt for choice. Although I am sort of in the mood for Pho and perhaps a Vietnamese iced coffee."
"Unless you would prefer something else? I am easy and am happy to do whatever." He hastened to add.
Growing up in Hong Kong, well there was not much that Richard would not eat. At least not much that could be found an any menu at least. He happily followed the gargoyle foodward.
