The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Richard smiled when he heard that Margo was also a mutant. Quietly he said "Thank you Margo for trusting me and sharing that with me. Come here you." He said giving her a gentle hug.
"I couldn't ask for anything more in anybody,"
"Neither could I, Margo, neither could I..."
"And this probably sounds really weird, but I feel like it's more than that, you know?"
"You know Margo, it doesn't sound weird at all, I know what you mean, you feel more like family... Like a little sister to me that someone I just met recently, do you mind me calling you that?" Richard said yawining. "Sorry about that." He apologized. "Margo it is getting a little late, what do you want to do? The two sofas in the living room are pull out beds so If you wanted to you are welcome to sleep over and we could talk till we fell asleep like a family sleep over. If you would prefer I could drop you off anywhere, or I am happy to sleep out in the living room if you would prefer the privacy of a bedroom. What would you like to do?" He paused for a moment, then a twinkled at her.
"Although....Although if you did decide to sleep over I can promise you a full english breakfast with bacon and sausages and mushrooms and the works. It is not everyday you find a younger sister you always wished you had. " He smiled, that was the best day of his life, period.

>"Err, well, pretty sure I was stealing something. Pretty sure you just broke into this building with me."
Richard laughed at this. So he had. "True, true. Actually I was more curious as to who exactly was chasing us. I am also very very curious as to what is on this hard disk." He said slightly waving the device. "Also I am pretty sure that getting caught by whoever is hunting you, me, us would not be good for our health so technically we broke in for reasons of self preservation. It is not like we broke in just for the fun of it or to try and burn and pillage." Pillage? where had that word come from. Sheesh he was sounding so posh.
>"I'd give you my name, but I'm not quite sure if you're one of those do-goody turn-me-in sorta guys."
Richard smiled as he replied. "Fair enough, Madam." He laughed. "This is a refreshing turn of events, yes? I suppose I should thank you for spicing up an otherwise dull evening. Although somehow I suspect that the evening is far from through."
It was true that Richard in some way, much to his own surprise was actually enjoying himself. To be fair nothing very bad or painful had happened yet and he was positively itching to see what said attractive beauty had stolen. At the same time he wanted to set himself the challenge of seeing if he could really make the drive work again.

"How long ago?" Richard considered the question. "To be honest not long. In some ways without knowing it I have always been using a small aspect of my power, but full discovery actually came out of a moment of need." And with that Richard proceeded to recount the story, which is written in full here .
"When did you discover your power? May I ask how did you discover your power?" Alex's power sounded rather exciting, he wondered if Alex could design and craft creatures, that would be wonderful and amazing. He pondered for a few moments. "What do you mean constructs? Can you essentially craft and design a creature out of your imagination? Or does it have to follow various rules?"
Richard had so many questions. He was genuinely interested.

As Richard was jogging towards the mouth of the alley the beautiful lady overtook him. She appeared to be fiddling with the lock on one of the shop doors. He was about to voice a question when she successfully opened it and beckoned him in. Curious he followed.
Mentally he was wondering if it was such a good idea. Honestly, aside from in the movies, where do you suddenly meet a beautiful lady under action packed circumstances, follow her through a door she just picked and hope that it will end any other way than ending up in a ditch beaten and robbed or worse, dead. But Richards self preservation voice was being ignored at the moment and he followed the woman into the darkness of the unknown.
His eyes were still adjusting to the dark so he could not see much of what was in the shop, but he could vaguely make out her outline. Softly he asked something that had been on his mind that was slowly coming back on track, especially now the more than slightly distracting beauty was hidden in the darkness.
"Umm, would now be an appropriate time to ask what in the world is going on? I am Richard by the way, nice to meet you."

Richard smiled at Margo's excited questions, just like a little sister he thought. Richard laughed, "Woah there Margo! Slow down there, one at a time. Umm, when I figure stuff out as you put it, the schematics, blueprints and function of the thing just seem to unfold in my head, I can see each individual piece of it and what each piece does and how it works together as a whole."
"Not sure about previous knowledge, it may help but what I get from my power is so complete and detailed that it blows any previous knowledge away. And so far as I can tell this knowledge applies to mechanisms and how they work as well as circuitry and how it is all connected together. I cannot be sure but I have not been able to see programming yet and I don't think I will be able to. How is that for some answers?" He laughed again. Oh tonight was turning out to be swell. Who knew, perhaps they would stay up so late talking that they would fall asleep on the sofas, that would be awesome. It was a Friday night after all.
"Margo, I was actually joking, that is why I said superpowers as opposed to powers. To be honest Margo, the fact that you accept me as a mutant is amazing. The fact that you not only accept but think it is cool is more than slightly mind blowing. That is more than enough. If you were a mutant, I would think that also very very cool and amazing, but I meant what I said in the cafe. To my mind, being a mutant is no different than having a different background or different skin colour. I would treat you exactly the same regardless." Richard was very earnest when he said this, it came from the bottom of his heart.
Richard paused. He meant it. After what had happened tonight, Margo was like family to him, he would love her as a little sister regardless. Then a thought struck him. "From the way you said "one of you" I am guessing that you are not a mutant?" He asked questioningly. He then seemed to realize what he had asked. "I am sorry, you don't have to answer that if you don't want to. Your acceptance of me and who and what I am has more than made my night. I could not ask for more in a friend."
Well more than friend really but hey If she brought up wanting to be his little sister or if she mentioned their relationship feeling like brother and sister he would respond. If not he was more than blessed as it was. No need to get greedy.

Richard laughed. this was turning out to be the best night ever. he could hug Margo all night but he restrained himself. Whipin g a tear or two from his eye he answered her question. "I only recently found out, it started like this..." and with that he shared a shorter version of Mutant Engineer Sets out to see the world .
".. So far as I can tell my power has two parts. The first part is that I can touch something and figure out how it works. I have not tested the limits yet. The second part is that I can then sometimes make minor changes to that thing. How about you? What is your super power? How does it work?"

"No. And I would totally think it was really cool,"
Richard was a bit taken aback, was she being serious. Then she scooted closer with the sort of I'm-going-to-be-direct-and-straight-with-you-and-tell-you-the-honest-truth sort of air.
"Do you remember when we talked about this, well, sort of talked about this at our last meeting? I said X-genes don't make anyone any less human, people that treat them like crap are the real problem, and that's what I mean. And don't think I'm just saying it because I haven't had experience with this sort of thing."
Well.....Yay! He snapped back from his rejoycing thoughts as Margo started speaking again.
"Richard. I know you're a mutant, okay? It's not that big of a deal. I still like you, if that's what you're worried about."
"Wait...How did you." Well he had probably been a little obvious with her. Wait what did she say...
"Yay!" Richard let out a little yip for joy then promptly forgot him self enveloped Margo in a bear hug and rocked from side to side. He promptly remembered himself, and feeling a bit embarassed sprang back. "Sorry, forgot myself there." He said sheepishly. " Um, dap..aaa... " Richard waved his hands speechlessly as he tried to thing of what to say. To say he was overjoyed would have been the understatement of the year. "Um.... Thanks." Was all his slightly overloaded brain could manage at the moment. He was slightly hopping from foot to foot with joy.

"Not a Ghost"
Richard was a little startled that she had just reappeared. "Umm, right, well, apparently not." Said Richard cought a little off balance. He was not used to just randomly bumping into mutants everywhere.
"And really, I wouldn't mess with that if I were you, not worth it now. And uh, pretty sure you don't want to be caught with it."
"Not worth it? It is completely fixable, I could do it if you want. Wait, caught with it? I am puzzled" He noticed her glancing at the rooftop. "Let me guess, someone else wants the computer?"
"I mean, you should, you know, maybe run, or like, go elsewhere."
"Right, ok thanks for the heads up." Richard was not completely sure what was going on right now, what with pretty women falling out of the sky and crashing computers and sounds of angry pursuit but his curiosity was peaked. He started moving away then on impulse grabbed the hard disk from the wreckage of the computer and started jogging down the alley, it turned out to be blocked in one direction so he jogged passed the woman and headed towards the exit.

"Margo," Richard asked, then hesitated. He had mostly made up his mind to tell her, to take the plunge, but at the last minute he changed what he had been going to say. He turned and looked at her then turned and stared into the night. Better to get it over with early on in the relationship. If she was repulsed by the idea at least they had not known each other for THAT long, and as painful as it was, he could slowly gradually phase out of the relationship and still survive emotionally.
".. If one day I woke up and discovered that I was a mutant....." He paused. "And answer me honestly,.... would you treat me any different? How would you respond?"
There he had ask the question, sort of, how would she respond? What would she think? What would she say? Would she lie? In some way now that he had ... asked the question, he was relieved. He had started on the path and now, in some way, was just along for the ride and determined to see where it would all lead.

"Yes... well not too long ago I discovered that I was a mutant." Richard felt the suddent need to choose his words carefully. He had noted how Mary seemed to tense up when he accused Alex of being a mutant. He guessed that Alex had not had the most pleasant of experiences with being a mutant. He had no desire for Alex to set Mary on him, even if he did have a taser in his pocket and a small can of mace on a keyring.
"I seem to be ab le to manipulate various inorganic, not sure exactly which ones yet, still experimenting. How about you?"
Richard suspected that Alex's mutation had something to do with Mary. Perhaps animal communication and control? He was slightly excited to meet another mutant. He hoped this one was a nice one, like his previous encounters.

Alex started to answer about his love of biology. Apparently he was a natural. Then Richard's accidentally spoken-out-loud question caught him off gaurd. All Richard could think was Opps.
"You could say that..."
"I knew it, there is just something about her design..." Said Richard excitedly as he continued to scratch Mary. "She is beautifully crafted." Said Richard admiringly.
"Genetic modification? But that would mean a lab and so much time...." Richard trailed off, his mind going into analytic mode. After a minute he said slowly as him mind continued processing. "She was not made through genetic modification was she....." He paused.
"Wait, are you a mutant as well?" He asked slightly excitedly.

"What do you like about biology?" Richard asked. There was something different about the boy, something he seemed to want to keep hidden. Richard could not put his finger on it, something about the boy's reaction to the dog perhaps? Richard considered himself widely read but the canine seemed to show characteristics that seemed very unique. Almost too unique, as if Mary had been....engineered. He almost wondered if the two were in communication. If they were, Richard suspected that they were having a spat with the boy staring at the dog like he was trying to command it.
While the teen was thinking, Richard's thoughts got the better of him and almost without meaning to he voiced the question out loud. "Mary was designed wasn't she?" By the time he realized he had spoken out loud the question had already been asked. Oh well, he thought.

Richard was wondering the streets of New York, exploring, processing. He was gaining more and more control and knowledge over his powers day by day. What was once unfamiliar and scary was starting to be less so. With the lessening of fear, his natural curiosity and engineers mind came to the forefront. Already he was thinking of experiments to test how far he could push his powers. He was smiling to himself as he walked. Cutting through an alleyway he was startled from his reverie by "Shiii-" and looked up to catch a glimpse of two objects rapidly falling towards him. one looked blocky and was falling to the side of him, the other appeared to be a young woman. Richard glimpsed an attractive face before she seemed to become enveloped by a green glow and pass through him. It tingled slightly. Before Richard could even think to respond she was through him and CRASH! The computer hit the ground.
"Hello? Are you ok?" Richard asked worriedly looking around for the girl. He wondered if he was seeing ghosts. "First discovering I am a mutant and now I seem to be seeing ghosts. Well at least it was a beautiful looking one." he muttered to himself as he walked over and began examining the wreckage of the computer.
"Hmmm, Hard drive looks fixable." he commented to himself looking at the shattered casing, it looked completely trashed but with his power, he was convinced he could make it work. "Motherboard, also doable..." He continued his examination and concluded. "All in all, I could make it run again, but it would take time, and energy, ALOT of energy." He was still musing when he heard a noise and turned.

[OCC sorry for it being short, just really wanted to hear more of Margo's thoughts before proceeding. Hope that is ok]
Richard had nothing to say to that. He felt that in that moment any response he could make would somehow ruin the moment or convey the wrong impression. Resting his hand on her should had been a bit of a gamble. He sincerely hopped she was not creep-ed out by it. He hoped that it was not too much too fast. He was an intense person, he knew that and had scared away friends in the past. After a while he removed his hand from her shoulder and leaned next to her on the railing. Enjoying the smell of rain.
Meeting Margo had been a random event. Discussions with her had probably been the deepest he had had in a few years. Add to that the loneliness of moving to a new city, getting a new job and Richard was craving friendship/ companionship. On top of that he had recently discovered that he was a mutant and going though all the turmoil that that brought. It was during that silence that the internal debate fired up again.
Should I tell her I am a mutant? Should I not? during their last meeting a few weeks ago at the coffee shop he had cautiously broached the topic and they had casually given vague answers about how they felt etc. When was a good time to inform someone that one was a mutant. How would she react? Would she push him away? Would she?? He did not know. To be honest he disliked rejection and had a rather tender heart that could be easily hurt, especially by someone like Margo.

[OCC sorry for the ultra short post. Work has been a little crazy of late. If I am not giving you enough to work with let me know.]
"...100K"
Richard almost choked, almost. As he accepted and accepted his employer's invitation to walk with him.
"Hmm, well, mutants is a whole different ball game. What do you define as neutralize? Something that will let you survive a single attack? Multiple attacks? or prolonged siege? Also dossiers would be appreciated as trying to combat different powers will need different approaches. You do realize that if I succeed, each invention will probably only be able to combat one specific set of powers but we will have to see."
Upon hearing that the next item on the itinerary was the workplace, Richard happily accepted. "Lead on boss." This day just seemed to keep getting better.
