The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Luke had been away from the mansion for a few days with Jacobs & Jacobs business but now that he had returned he was back in touch with the rumor mill. Apparently a new young woman had arrived with very interesting and colorful past associates. From all accounts she was friends with or at least knew of many of the mutants that resided at the Sanctuary. Luke had yet to meet her but if the rumors were true than her presence was perfectly times.
For quite some time, even since the Birthday Brawl, an idea had been rattling around in the back of Luke's brain. It had just been the framework and he had been to busy to really flesh it out but since the fight at King Pharmaceuticals it had popped to the forefront of his mind. Now there was a clear cut goal for him to shoot for. He had yet to discuss it with any of the other X-Men as he was instead waiting to have a chance to talk with Raina about it first. Though if he were really honest it was unlikely that he would be talking to the other X-Men even after he spoke with Raina. This was a special project that he wanted to achieve and he was willing to bet that, at the very least, one or two of the others would be completely against it.
Over the course of the day Luke had tried to track down the girl called Meld but so far there had been no success. Finally a decision was made. After fixing himself a double stacked BLT sandwich and a large bowl of popcorn with butter, salt, and powdered parmesan cheese he grabbed a bottle of soda from the fridge in the kitchen and then took a seat on one of the bar stools at the island counter here in the kitchen. Everyone had to get hungry at some point which meant that eventually Meld would find her way here. She had to... didn't she?

Luke tilted his head ever so slightly as he watched Ghost's father apparently trying to peer into his blind eyes. Normally people tried to be more discreet about their inspections in order to at least be somewhat polite. As he asked where Luke lived, the blind man could feel his handshake getting just a little bit stronger. Was he trying to make it clear that he was still Ghost's protector or something?
"I stay at the school on occasion, but no I don't live there. I have an apartment in town so that there's easier access to the family business." Luke replied politely, a slightly sly smile touching his features. He was acting far more protective than someone that was just meeting one of his daughter's friends that he didn't know. Was this how most parents acted when they thought they were meeting a boyfriend?
"Phone's right here." Luke commented once the manly grips had been relinquished and his hand was once again in his own posession. Reaching into his pocket he withdrew the device that his friend had suddenly remember and held it out to her.
Leaving the two family members to chat, Luke walked over to the edge of the curb and waited for the closets cab to approach. Pulling a twenty dollar bill out of his pocket he held his hand up with the money clearly visible. While not the most normal way to call a cab, it was definately effective and almost instantly a vehicle pulled up and came to a stop.
"If you two are ready, we can be on our way." Luke called before bending down to speak to the driver through the window, "Xavier's School For The Gifted please."

"Being an X-Man is about being part of a team." Luke's voice was strong and echoed off the walls and ceiling of the large empty warehouse they stood within. Strong bulbs were scattered through the building, but only enough to make small areas of light. At least 80-85% of the building was cloaked in shadows and darkness. Large crates lay scattered through the room, providing even more shadows and darkness as well as obstacles and cover.
"From your files we have at least some idea about how each of your abilities work. Some is information you've provided on th eapplication, other bits were gathered during training sessions or out in the field." Luke continued as his sightless eyes stared at the three applicants. He had fought alongside Alexandra and had at least a decent understanding of how her power worked. Maybe not perfect, but good enough. Kaz he had heard about but most of what he knew was from the files. When it came to Jewel, he only knew information from her file. How would they deal with the challenge he was about to throw their way?
"In the shadows are three assailants. Your job is to defeat them. Killing is not an option, but rending them unconscious or trapping them in some sort of construct is deffinately allowed." Luke continued, "There are a couple of suprises but you'll find those on your own. Ever two minutes, one of these light bulbs will go out. If the assailants disable all three of you, or the light bulbs go out before you can stop all of them, then you lose. If you're counting, you'll see that there are 15 light bulbs so you have half an hour."
Turning, Luke walked away, but paused at the doorway that opened to the stairs that would take him up to the control room. "Oh... and good luck." Stepping outside he closed the door.
(OOC: These three assailants are not your typical challengers. The computer has been programmed to create individuals that are immune to each person's abilities, at least as much as the X-Men know about. There is one challenger that is immune to one persons abilities. They are not all immune to all the abilities. They are also programmed to seak out their target if the three of you choose to split up. These are details that none of you have been given. If there are any other questions, feel free to shoot me a PM. Enjoy!)

As Sam dismissed the meeting Luke could almost feel something like a ball of ice forming in the pit of his stomach. "I don't hear Raina singing though..." He thought to himself as the sound of chairs scraping on the floor signaled everyone beginning to leave.
"Thanks." He said with a tight smile in response to Ghost's offering of luck even though he knew it was going to do no good. It didn't take luck to build a relationship, it took hard work and lots of trust. That was something that Luke hadn't exactly been exibiting over the past few days and apparently Raina agreed.
"Yeah... we probably should." Luke replied quietly as he slowly stood to his feet, nodding his agreement to the mermaid. Standing there, something popped into his mind and he began to fidget with his cane just a little. He felt like an absolutely idiot for having to ask this but he really didn't have a choice.
"Uh, you want to just meet me there or do you mind taking my arm?"

Ghost's father had worked for the government? It was something of a surprise and while Luke felt bad for overhearing part of the conversation, the two of them hadn't exactly been talking in a whisper. That in itself began to explain Ghost's attitude but it still left an interesting question in the blind man's mind. What had Ghost's father done for the government and what would he be doing now? What was his specialty? Was it something that could be used at Jacobs & Jacobs?
Luke's internal thoughts were interupted as Ghost moved back into his sonar, solidifying and becoming clearer as she approached. "He took the phone, he'll call us if he needs us, and he's going to take the security system under advisement." Luke replied as he turned around to face his friend. He could tell from the young woman's tone of voice that she was trying to make clear to the other man that their conversation was over for the time being but Luke couldn't let that happen quite yet. After all, they hadn't even had introductions!
"Luke Jacobs." He offered, stepping past the young woman and holding out a hand to the man, "You've got quite a daughter. You should be proud." The tone was friendly but the words were very blunt and to the point. If the man wasn't proud of his daughter than that was his own fault. Ghost had proven herself to be an asset and a good friend even in the short time that Luke had known her. It was a pity that her father hadn't been around to see it but that was his loss.

They were at the office and Rupert was broaching the subject that apparently was so important to him. "A dream?" Luke thought, suddenly battling off the feelings of panic that were trying to rush in, "Rupert had a dream to?! Why the hell did they both have dreams and I didn't?" None of this was making any sense and right now Luke was feeling more and more foolish for not talking to Raina earlier but there was really no helping it. The decision had been made and there was no turning back now.
"Maybe I'll pick up a donut and coffee at the kitchen and take him one." Luke replied with a tight smile, not even realizing how close Raina had actually come until her hand touched his shoulder. He did his best not to jump but the slight stiffening in his muscles showed that he was surprised, "I haven't had a chat with him in quite a while."
And then Raina asked the million dollar question. It hurt to know that he was in a situation where Raina even had to worry about him doing something as simple as walking down the hall. Normally her worries had more to do with his late night activities or the X-Men mission he had been sent on. Walking down a hall should not have been cause for concern!
"I'll be fine." Luke replied with a slight nod before raising his voice just a touch louder and addressing the other man, "I'll see you later Rupert. You two have a good talk."
Turning away from Raina, Luke slipped out of the office and slowly made his way down the hall. The steady tap, tap of his cane was muffled by the carpet and soon the sound itself dissapeared as he made his way down the stairs. "Donuts... bleh."

"Um... sir, could you claim your friends items as well?" A somewhat embarassed officer was asking as Luke finished signing to get back his own posessions, "She left out of here so fast that we couldn't catch her."
Raising an eyebrow questioningly, Luke's react kicked in and he immediately sent his sonar flashing out past the front door in search of his friend. Thankfully the search didn't take long and as soon as his wave of sound touched the ghostly figure, Luke pulled it back to instead just focus on her father. The two were all right at the moment but from the man's body language it looked like their conversation was at least a little bit intense.
"I'd be glad to. Where do I sign?" Luke answered as pleasantly as he could as he handed back over the clipboard and pocketed his own items. Within a few minutes he had signed yet another document, claiming Ghost's checked items. "You all have a nice day."
Turning on his heal Luke headed for the doorway, pausing for a few moments just inside. He really didn't want to step into the middle of family matters unless it looked like things were going to get violet. As the minutes ticked by, Luke's mind raced through all the posibilities of what they might be talking about. He was doing his best not to focus and listen on the conversation out of respect but what if Ghost needed him? Was she wondering where he was?
"Something wrong sir?" An officer's voice suddenly broke through his thoughts, "Can I help you with something?"
Suddenly Luke realized how suspicious his hanging around inside the front entrance must look and he gave the man a quick smile. "No. Just trying to remember my next stop. Thanks." Turning Luke pushed his way through the doors and back out into the heat of the sun. Slowing making his way down the stairs, Luke took up a position about ten or fifteen feet behind Ghost's father. Turning away, Luke acted as if he were studying a nearby street sign while waiting for a moment to break into the conversation. After all, he did have Ghost's phone.

Luke fell silent as the interuption stormed into the room. Relaxing back into the cushions he took the time to collect his thoughts while absently listening to the conversation. It had to be tough on the man to be unable to find his daughter but Welling had a point. The police had no reason or right to hold anyone over 18 unless a crime had been comitted.
"Daddy?"
Suddenly Luke's rapt attention turned very focused as he brought his sonar in tight on the other man. There was a moment where he saw it before the man turned to face Ghost but it was enough. The similarities in facial features and build were deffinately there and Luke turned his blind eyes to focus on Ghost while raising on eyebrow inquisitively. What in the world was this? Luke had never heard anything about her being distanced from her family but it wasn't really that much of a surprise. Most mutants had difficulties facing their human relatives. There were a few happy stories, like Katrina and her mother, but those were deffinately few and far between.
"Stay close Ghost." Luke spoke up, keeping his voice friendly though the touch of concern had to be obvious, "I don't want to have to search for you when we're done here." He knew it sounded like he was talking to a little girl but at the moment he was feeling extra protective toward the young woman. Sure, Ghost was an adult but she was still young and if anything happened to her Sam would probably never forgive him. Sure, Ghost was the senior X-Man but Luke was the senior in age. That counted for something, didn't it?
As the door closed on the office, Luke turned his attention back to Wellings. "If you accept the security system I'll step out of the picture and you'll work with one of my security experts. Obviously I'm available if necessary but my employees are experienced enough to handle it. We can also keep it a fully human instalation team if it makes your officers more comfortable."
"We're not all prejudiced." The Comissioner replied bluntly, "I'll take it under advisement and contact your company if we want to take it. Anything else?"
"No... I don't believe so." He responded slowly, racking his brain to make sure he didn't forget anything, "Thank you very much for your time Comissioner. I appreciate your clearing a space in your busy schedule."
"It's been enlightening." Wellings responded dryly, "You know your way out."
Standing to his feet, Luke gave the man a polite nod and then turned to make his way out of the building. Extending his sonar past the door, the blind man made sure he wasn't interupting anything and then slipped outside. There would be no interupting the little father/daughter talk unless Ghost's dad started to get violent, if so, well, Luke didn't kill but he could deffinately inflict pain.

The stiffening of Ghost's back and the slight change in the tone of her voice forced Luke to hide a smile. It was always interesting to see the relaxed and friendly young woman suddenly become firm and just a touch forceful. Doing his best to wipe away any entertainment from his expression, the blind man returned to waiting for when he could speak again. Finally, after a brief interuption from the Commissioner's intercom, the moment came.
"Also, I would like to offer the services of my company to help improve your security measure both here and at the precincts around the city." Luke spoke up, "As a gesture of good will between us, whether you decide to accept help from the X-Men or not."
"Uhuh," The disbelief and paranoia in the man's voice was obvious as he swivled his head to look at Luke, "That's how you'll get access to our systems, right? You'll be able to get any file you want through your connection points."
"No sir." Luke's voice was blunt and very to the point. Diplomacy was gone for the moment and instead he was once again the businessman laying out a deal for the prospective client, "Jacobs & Jacobs is in a special place in the market because we are able to have our systems tested by mutants. While they are far from fool proof, it does make it easier to protect against those individuals that have special abilities. Your own technicians will be free to work with our instalation teams in order to ensure that none of those secret connection points you mentioned are actually put into the system. There is no catch and we're not out to gain anything from this. As Ghost explained, we just want a chance to live in a law abiding society the same as any other person."
"Right... no agendas and no hooks. That's what you keep saying." Wellings muttered to himself as he turned hsi gaze back to the phone in his hands, "Is there anything else? I'll warn you that I'm not sure I can handle any more surprised."

Sorry about being AWOL over the past several days. I had a spur of the moment trip come up that had me driving to North Alabam and then North Georgia before heading back to Florida. I tried to get on the internet at the hotels but for some reason their anti-virus software and stuff were blocking MRO. I'm working on getting caught back up and hopefully I won't be away again for a long time!

Why was it when you were going through something everyone suddenly felt the urge to try and explain why it was happening? It was as old as the story of Job in the Bible when his three friends had assured him that he must of sinned for God's wrath to have fallen on him so strongly. It was the same way that a lawyer would tell his client they wouldn't have fallen and broken their leg if the steps had been a half inch shorter and so they needed to sue. Why couldn't people just accept that sometimes crap happens to good people?!
Luke nodded along with the different suggestions, doing his best not to scream. First there was Shin, comparing the problem with Anime. Then there was Sam telling him he should see Doc, as if he hadn't already thought of that. Then it was on to Ghost asking about blood transfusions and who knew what else. "It'll be fine... as far as I know, Doc healed me after the brawl and kept me from dieing. Since he has a healing ability I dobut I needed any sort of blood transfusion. All I can do is sit back and wait. Who knows what might happen."
And then there was Raina... the icy tone in her voice made Luke actually wince ever so slightly. He should have told her. He should have made her his very first call but he hadn't. Instead he had tried to protect her from it and then allowed the whole Rupert/Raina situation to get in the way. She had been blindsided and Luke just knew there was going to be hell to pay later on.
"I'll be glad to work on a program with you CS... I'm sure we can come up with something." Luke offered with a tight smile before settling back into the cushions of his chair a little more fully and slumping down slightly. When was this damn meeting going to be over?

Luke took a seat as Ghost began to speak once again. As she spoke Luke's mind was racing, trying to remember every off hand comment that different employees had made about the Police Commissioner. Obviously Jacobs & Jacobs had been involved in several sales with the police force and different people had met with Welling. Hadn't there been a comment about his liking a good game of poker and a nice cigar? Luke wasn't a smoker or gambler himself but surely there was some way he could use that information to his advantage. Wasn't there?
"Obviously we can't have the whole team working with you except in emergency situations but I'm sure we can establish some sort of standard rotation so that there is a mutant available at all times just in case you were to need them." Luke spoke up as Ghost paused. He didn't know whether she was stopping in order to regain her thoughts or if she were stopping to let him speak but whichever it was, he was going to take advantage of the moment.
"As Ghost reminded you, I do own a company but whenever I'm working in the city I'm sure I could slip away from board meetings and such if it were necessary. As to contacting us," Luke continued as he reached into his coat pocket and withdrew the cell phone he had secreted within its confines a little earlier, "This is a dedicated phone that will put you in direct contact with one of the X-Men whenever you might need one of us."
As the Comissioner took the phone and slowly turned it over in his hands, examining it carefully, Luke tactfully paused. There was obviously more to be said, including his offer of upgraded security, but this would do for now.
"So let me get this straight." His voice was quieter than it had been while his intense gaze was focused on the small phone with its stylized 'X', "Your team of 5 or 6 mutants would be willing to go through training, maintain a dedicated rotation of availability, and put the full team at our disposal whenever a dire emergency presented itself."
Looking up, the man's piercing gaze focused on Luke and then swept its way over to Ghost. "What's the catch? What do you get out of this? Accept to our computer files? Free passes if any of you get in trouble with the law? I've dealt with you mutants before and sure, there's a nice one here and there, but you never do something for nothing. What's your side?"

This was not how Luke had pictured the situation going. He had expected to introduce Rupert to some mutant that he probably didn't know very well, escort them to an office or something, and then leave the two alone to discuss their issues. The very idea that Raina was the woman that Rupert had come to see was baffling. He was beginning to feel numb. Not only was he truly blind and unable to see their expressions but the whole situation had blindsided him. Why had he agreed to help Rupert with this situation?!
As Raina stepped away from the doorway and invited them in, Luke followed behind Rupert. A part of him wanted to separate right nwo but another piece was curious. Did Raina still have feelings for this man? Had he just been a rebound to help her feel better until Rupert came back to his senses?
"I'll follow you up to the office and then leave you alone." Luke murmured quietly, momentarily quickening his pace to gently bump up against Rupert before they reached the stairs, "I... I hope it goes well."
Slowing his pace, Luke felt his cane touch the first of the stairs. Suddenly he felt his mind go into a panic. How many stairs were there? This was something that he as a blind man should know! Why hadn't he ever bothered to count the stairs? Why had he stopped so many of the things that had helped him to survive as a kid until his sonar appeared?
Gritting his teeth, Luke's eyebrows knit together in concentration as he began to ever so slowly mount the stairs. Mentally he was mapping the staircase as he tapped each step, counting and recording this as information he would never forget. Never again would he be caught so off guard. If he were to lose his sonar again or if he were to never regain it, he would at least be able to function!

Police procedure, it was an important thing to have on the books but there were definitely times when the law enforcement officers decided to stick to it just a little bit to stringently. For instance, separating Luke and Ghost into different rooms was a little over the top. It wasn't like they were going to be strip searched for crying out loud!
The jacket slipped off of Luke's shoulders and was laid on a table in the center of the room along with his sunglasses. His wallet, house keys, and two phones were then laid out next to them.
"That belt has a metal buckle. I need you to take it off!" One of the officers ordered with a wide smile on his face, "Protocol. I'm sure you understand."
"Of course... I've had to deal with all of the bureaucratic red tape before." Luke replied as pleasantly as he could manage as he pulled the offending item from around his waist.
In a relatively short time he had been patted down and his items were returned to him one by one. Belt, wallet, and jacket. The keys, phones, and sunglasses were left on the tray while one of the men carefully examined them. "We'll have to keep these... who knows what sorts of weapons you muties are carrying."
Turning his blank stare on the officer, Luke raises an eyebrow questioningly as he tried to slow his now rapidly beating heart. He had replaced his belt and wallet in their pockets while the jacket was carefully folded over his arm. "Are you really going to make the commissioner stare into these eyes through our whole interview?" He asked, "They seemed to have a way of unnerving people."
For a moment the officer stared and then glanced away, "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Grab 'em."
With a quick word of thanks Luke stepped forward, lifting his coat covered arm to snatch away the glasses while carefully slipping the "gift" phone into the draping garment. Once his sunglasses were firmly in place Luke shrugged the jacket back on and then turned to follow the officers out of the room.
"I coulda sworn there were two phones." Luke could hear the officer murmuring to himself as he looked back at the tray, "Then again... who in their right mind carries two phones?"
***
As usual, Ghost's brilliant smile was a ready gleam of light to brighten the room and as they moved up a flight of stairs her voice buzzed in his ear. A quick shake of his head got the message across though Luke knew he'd have to share the whole story at some later point.
As Ghost made her introduction, Luke focused his sonar on the man they had come to see. A somewhat sour expression was set on the man's face as he stared intently at the two intruders. His body posture was that of a man trying to make himself look tough but the slight twitching from the muscles in his back and neck broadcast loud and clear that he was concerned, maybe even scared, about where this meeting would go.
"I've worked with you several times on different contract Commissioner, but I don't believe we ever had the pleasure of meeting." Luke spoke up smoothly, stepping forward so that he was now right beside Ghost instead of remaining slightly behind her.
"I didn't like dealing with corporate executives then and I like it even less when they're mutants." Commissioner Welling responded coldly, "Now what do you two want? I have a very busy day ahead of me."
"That is the exact perception we've come to discuss, sir." Luke replied after a moments thought as he tried to figure out how to word each sentence. He wasn't a diplomat by any means but negotiating a successful business deal used many of the same skills that they would need to accomplish this mission. The question was whether Luke and ghost had enough of those skills. "May we sit down?"
"Like I could stop you." The snort behind his voice was obvious as Welling leaned back in his chair and fixed Ghost with a stare, "Seems like you're the spokeswoman... Ghost. So speak your peace. What do you want?"
