The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Luke did his best not to react to the fact that Raina was basically ignoring and decided to keep his mouth shut. If she didn't want his help or want him to say anything then that was exactly what he would do. She was a big girl and could apparently handle it just fine by herself.
But now it was time to focus back on his own issues. Sam was calling for volunteers to lead one of the training teams and without even being able to see his expression, Luke was willing to bet that the man had glanced at him at least once. Leadership had come naturally to Luke for some time and if he had his sonar he would have immediately volunteered for the position but for now that was going to have to wait. It looked like the group finally deserved an explanation for why he was acting at least a little bit strange.
"All of us dealt with some bad stuff at King Pharmaceuticals." Luke spoke up, his voice even and rather emotionless as he steeled himself for whatever comments his friends would have once the revelation was made, "For some of you it was connected to Haywire but for myself it was the fact I had to fight a friend. Beyond that, my sonar has been gone ever since the fight. I'd offer to lead a training team but since I don't know when it'll come back, I'll have to let someone else do it."
Falling silent, Luke hoping that the subject would be droped but seriously doubted it would be. The worst part of the situation was the unspoken worry that continued to nag at the back of his mind. Would his sonar ever come back?

It was good to hear that Luke's sonar didn't bother Ghost to much unless it were right up next to her and with all the practice he'd been getting, controlling the distance and direction was getting much easier than it had ever been. Giving the young woman a quick smile, he waited patiently while she went off to call the cab.
Fifteen or twenty minutes later, once they were on board, Ghost began to fill him on information about comissioner. The fact that he had personally experienced an attack from mutants was distrubing and deffinately hurt their chances of being able to have a successful meeting. "Kind of surprising Sam was even able to set up a meeting with him." Luke commented quietly, "I wonder what he said to work that out."
Finally they had arrived. Stepping out of the cab and onto the sidewalk, Luke could immediately identify large ammount of police men and women all sticking pretty close to their home base of operations. Sure there were small precinct building throughout the city but this was their main location and obviously the police were starting to realize that there really was strength in numbers.
"Think we can make it up to the office without getting shot?" Luke asked in a low, slightly teasing but slightly serious voice as he and Ghost began to make their way toward the main entrance, "That would deffinately ruin my day."

"True. His ability doesn't exactly affect things the same way ours do. Plus, I'm sure he's got a lot on his mind since he's stepped up to help out Tricity so much." Luke replied with a grin. Since he'd already seen where Ghost was sitting he pulled in sonar in, allowing himself to see around but without actually touching the young woman. He knew that she was sensitive to the vibration but with her elemental power he wasn't sure even that was enough. Did she just sense the air directly around her or could she sense all the air in the room?
"Yeah, they'd probably prefer we didn't just solidify and appear in the lobby." Luke agreed as listened to the sound of Ghost's feet hitting the floor and making the floorboards creek ever so slightly as she apparently stood up, "After all the attacks they've had to deal with over the past few years I'd guess most of the police are pretty touchy."
The questions started to come faster and Luke just had to smile and wait for her to pause long enough for him to give her a reply. "I do live in town but I've had to spend the night here a couple of times so I keep some clothes in one of the rooms upstairs. My home away from home as it were." Normally Luke would have gone ahead and suggested that they take his motorcycle since he did have a fake drivers license to cover but with his more dressy clothing and because of the fact of who they were going to see that was probably not the best idea.
"Why don't we go ahead and call the cab. If you think there's anything important in the packet there you can fill me in while we wait for the car." Luke finally decided after a few moments of thought, "Is my sonar OK or should I shut it completely off for now? I don't want to go giving you a headache or something."

"No pineapples... check. Guess I better go find something else." Luke said with a grin as the three of them stood up. Once the goodbye's had been spoken, Luke grabbed the X-phone that was laying on the table and then followed the other two out into the hallway. Once they were out of the hallway they all split up with CS heading off for who knew where, Ghosty heading for the Library, and Luke heading upstairs to the bedrooms.
Though Luke rarely spent the night at the mansion, he did keep a room there for the rare occasion it was necessary. A few changes of clothes hung in the closet as well as some basic toiletry items tucked in the bedside table. Sorting through the clothing in the closet, Luke's eyebrow knit together in concentration as he ran his fingers over label after label, quickly deciphering what options there were.
The meeting was going to be with police comissioner and while Luke wanted to feel relaxed he also wanted to look well dressed enough to show respect to the other man's position. Finally he chose the one business casual outfit he had in the closet.
Brown loafers led up to khaki pants, brown belt, a dark green polo shirt, and a tan sport coat pulled over it. Once his wallet, keys, cell phone, and X-Communicator were all safely stowed in his pants and jacket pockets Luke headed back out into the hallway. His sunglasses were, as usual, sitting comfortably on the bridge of his nose and his gate was the confident walk that he was known for.
"Anything interesting in the file?" Luke asked as he walked into the library, "I didn't really want to embarass Sam by pointing out that I couldn't read a single thing that he wanted us to look at."

Saymeld seemed to be a touch out of it when it came to movies and hollywood though she was deffinately a lot better than Luke. Already he was adding to his mental list of iconic movies, actors, and actresses that he needed to try and watch if he didn't manage to switch back to his own body right away.
Lifting his own hot drink, Luke took another sip. For the moment he was to excited about his new visual prospects to pay attention to the flavor. It was amazing how being able to see suddenly changed things. Something simple, like the flavor of a drink, that he had enjoyed so much while blind now took a back seat to what he could see.
"Have you been in New York for long, Saymeld?" Luke asked, dropping his movie excitement for at least a few moments, "I've frequented this shop and I don't recall having met you before. Are you knew to the area?"

"Control... I've always prided myself in control." Luke mused out lod, nodding along with Kealey's comments, "I never paid much attention to the meditation, even though I did some martial arts, but I did focus a lot on control."
The young woman's explanation of how she was essentially blind to herself made sense and he began to feel like maybe there really was a kindred spirit somewhere out in the city. Raina was a wonderful woman and she loved him no matter what his dissability might be, but she still couldn't really understand. Kealey understood in ways noone else did and it was nice to be able to talk to someone like that.
"There's no need to apologize. Thank you for being so open." Luke replied with a smile before turning and leading Kealey out of the apartment and back into the hallway. "Let's ask some of the area shops and if none of them can give us any information then maybe you can bother your friend. I'm hoping that I don't have to go to the police for this but if necessary I will."
The walk back to the elevator was relatively quiet as he reflected on everything that was going on. If he was looking so hard for his real body, was it possible that Juka was looking just as hard for his body? Had he made a mistake by leaving Juka's apartment? Was that where he needed to go in order to meet up with his own self?
Pushing those questions to the back of his mind, Luke led the way outside and up to the first shop they came to. The clothing store attendant was friend but not very helpful. Her store hadn't opened until 10:00 that morning and no she hadn't seen anything. From the next two stores it was the same answer. They opened later in the morning and hadn't seen anything like what the two of them were describing. Finally at the fourth location they got lucky. The owner of this small corner convenience store had been open at 5:00 a.m. and had indeed seen a strange sight. A shirtless and barefoot man screaming on the sidewalk. He had been tempted to call the police until a young blond woman approached the screaming man, calmed him down, and then led him off down the sidewalk.
"You see a lot of strange sights in New York... you know?"
"I'll, uh, take your word for it." Luke replied with a tight smile before walking back out on the street. "It had to be someone that recognized my body but I'm blind for crying out loud! I have no clue which of my friends might be blond!"

"Why in the world did I ever get involved?" Wraith berated himself rather viciously as he turned to face Ranger. It wasn't because he was afraid of a fight, or even afraid of dieing, but he was used to working with people that worked together. Hyde and Ranger did everything but work together. If they had been working together they would have stormed the building as a trio taking out enemy agents along the way. Once on the roof they would have disabled the snipers and it would have been wrapped up in a nice pretty package.
It was tempting, oh so tempting, to make a sarcastic comment but Wraith refrained. Narrowing his eyes in concentration he extended his sonar to envelop the whole building, sweeping the area. "Hyde's on the roof either unconscious or dead. The rest of the targets are leaving the building for some reason. Why in the world..." He asked out loud as he tried to process what he was seeing. But then, what he was seeing didn't really matter.
Every electrical item in the house suddenly went crazy until one by one they blew out. Moments later the walls began to burn, the acrid smell of toasted drywall and metal wiring filling Wraith's nose before something suddenly lept out of a socket in the wall. Before he could really understand what he was seeing, the mysterious substance solidified into a man with a very bad Russian accent.
"Ranger... you owe me when this is done." Wraith muttered as he turned to face this new enemy. Already he could hear the sizzle of electricity and see the power that arced back and forth from the man's fingertips. This was an enemy like nothing Wraith had ever seen or dealt with before. "And my communicator is back out on my bike... wonderful." He thought to himself as he went into a crouch, ready to react no matter what happened.
Suddenly power soared through the air, frying air molecules and making the room stink like burnt ozone. Diving to the side, Wraith once again found himself taking cover behind the couch. "Ranger! Get to the kitchen if you can!" Wraith yelled as an idea popped into his head. Suddenly rising from his crouched position the costume clad figure dove through the doorway out into the hallway, barely avoiding the lightning bolt that was just behind him, "NOW!"

"I don't really feel my powers, but at the same time I do feel the sonar." Luke replied slowly as he tried to think of how to explain it. "It lets me see but at the same time it's like, it's like a pressure in my mind. Not uncomfortable or painful but deffinately there. I had been able to control distance, bringing it in as close as only two or three feet for several years but then I discovered that my sonar could actually be painful to some other mutants. Once I learned that I took a couple of weeks right here in this room practicing on bringing it tighter and tighter until it was actually off. It wasn't a fun time. I went through several bottles of tylenol."
Looking over at Kealey, Luke raised on of his eyebrows in a questioning manner. It was such a normal mannerism for him that was probably out of place on this body but was still a part of who he really was. What in the world could this girl mean by their having more in common that he'd really believe? What did she mean by being blind and being able to see the whole time she was blind. "But I can see, even though I'm blind... I just don't see the same as everyone else." He said slowly, obviously completely lost by her comment.
Turning his gaze back to the rest of the apartment, Luke slowly scanned the area he tried to picture how the man must have been moving when he got out of this aprtment. He would have been running scared and probably bumping into all kinds of things. Luke had gone to sleep the night of the incident with no shirt... would his doppleganger have thought to get dressed? Would he have thought to even grab some shoes or would he have just run outside in a panic.
"He's probably wearing only a pair of sweatpants. If he was as paniced as you and I are imagining, he wouldn't have thought to grab shoes, shirt, wallet, or even keys." Luke said slowly as he turned to walk toward the door, "I wonder... do you think the police would have picked him up if he made it down to the street in that condition?"

As Sam slid the folders over and instructed them to open up the files, Luke humored the other man by idly going back and forth between the sheets of paper without actually seeing anything. He could tell by the feel of the paper that one of them must be a picture of someone or something but he was still clueless. Once he and Ghost were outside of the room and Sam's presence Luke would have to ask for a quick overview of the information but until then it was probably best to just play along with the situation.
"Jacobs & Jacobs has a pretty good relationship with the NYPD so we might just have a shot with that. We can handle the cost so no worry about reimbursment. We can even write it off our taxes at the end of the year so no problem." Luke responded easily before leaning back in his chair. Over all the mission seemed pretty straightforward. A plain diplomatic mission that, if successful, would put the X-Men on a much better relationship with the NYPD.
Suddenly Ghost spoke up, and Luke had to chuckle. He hadn't thought about the clothing he had picked out until she mentioned it but what she was saying deffinately made sense. "I had no clue where we were going but I can certainly change." Luke replied good naturedly before shooting Ghost a teasing grin, "Should I pull out the tuxedo or do you think a simple three piece suit would be formal enough?"

"Uh... yeah. I had to wear special glasses and all kinds of stuff. Kind of hard to explain." Luke replied after a moments hesitation. He had lied before, more often to his friend Sara than probably anyone, but it still wasn't something that he was particularly comfortabl doing. Quickly he continued on the subject of movies, hoping that this metal woman would let his other comment just drop.
"I've heard of Hugh Jackman before and Sandra Bullock sounds familiar but I'm not sure. Is Tom Cruise still big? I seem to remember several of his movies being huge in the theaters a few years back."
Luke was almost completely clueless about movies other than the few comments he heard around the company water cooler. Who was that female actor that so many of his male co-workers were always describing as a hottie. "Or what about... uh... Angelina Jolie? Is any of her stuff good?"

For the moment, Luke was glad to have basically stepped into the background. His reply had been diplomatic enough that Sam hadn't made any comments on it and everyone was so concerned with their own responses that they were at least temporarily ignoring him. Leaning back into his chair the blind man breathed a silent sigh of relief. There was a sense of hope rising in him that he might just be able to make it out of this meeting without having to deal with either his new disability or his relationship with Raina.
His time in the background was all to short. As Raina spoke up, expressing her own self doubts, Luke felt a frown pulling at the corners of his mouth. Was everything going on with their relationship part of the reason she was so unsure? If it was then he needed to speak up. Whether their personal relationship continued or not, Raina was a great team leader and he would work with her anytime on any mission.
"Raina, I've worked with you out on the field and you're a great team leader. You have the experiences and more important the heart to do the job." Luke spoke softly and gently but with a firm resolve behind it as his blind gaze stared off into nothingness, "Sam already said he understood all of us had different responsibilities that pulled at our time but I really think you can do this."
The comment might have been out of line but damn it, Luke wasn't going to let Raina walk away from an opportunity like this on his account!

"I met Tarin and Lee downtown when they called me out to see about installing a security system in their shop." Luke replied without any hesitation, "I'm not completely sure about Lee's power but Tarin can see and apparently give bodily form to disgruntled spirits. He, uh, kind of saw our friend from Paris. Apparently since I accidently killed him, his spirit has been trailing me."
That was yet another subject that Luke had never thought to bring up to Raina. It wasn't that he was trying to keep that story hidden from her buut neither of them really wanted to think about most of what they had dealt with while in Paris. Some of the time, the dinners and the hotel room, were pleasant memories but most things were still traumatizing.
"But... uh... they're good people. I ran into Lee out on the street a different evening. When I talked they both said they'd heard of you before so at the time I was thinking maybe we could all try dinner together sometime. Unfortunately it was right around that time that things got crazy and it's just never happened."

"Saymeld?" Luke asked as he looked at the other person a little bit closer. The name seemed to fit with something more middle eastern but the sound of her voice didn't jive with that. "Is your family Arabic?"
Picking up his drink, Luke took a sip as he glanced back down at his book. A standard cross between thriller/science fiction, as he unerstood it, the story was about the extinct Megladon shark being discovered alive in one of the sea's deep trenches. The people that had talked about it said it was like Jaws on steroids, but having never seen Jaws, Luke didn't really understand the comparison. Suddenly at that moment, the light of brilliance lit up his brain.
"I can watch movies... hell yah!" Luke muttered under his breath as his face lit up with a smile. Finally, a part of standard pop culture that he would be able to truly enjoy. Already his mind was racing as he catelogued in his mind the movies that people had said were iconic. He would have to make sure to take the time to rent Gone With The Wind, Jaws, Breakfast At Tiffany's, Pretty Woman, Mary Poppins, Star Wars, and so many others. Would he have time to finish all of them before he found a way to switch back?
"What would you suggest as like the best movie in the world?" Luke spoke up as he lifted his eyes to focus on the woman across from him, "I've been a little out of touch for the past few years."

"Maybe you should change that." Luke said teasingly as Raina rested her head on his chest, "Boob could be a great addition to your normal vocabulary. It can be used in so many different ways afte rall."
For a few momenst they enjoyed the comfortable silence and just being with each other when suddenly Raina spoke something that Luke really wished was possible. "Right now I'd settle for seeing you with my sonar again." Luke replied, dipping his head to press a kiss against Raina's temple, "But I have to admit... really seeing would be something."
And once again the conversation changed, moving back to Rupert once more. It was strange but Luke had to mentally thank Rupert for his interference. Because of Rupert he and Raina had been forced to talk more and have a more open relationship. They had been forced to make a choice about how they wanted their relationship to progress.
"I should have told you about losing my sonar so let's just call it even and hope that we don't ever do anything like this again." Luke's answer as honest and sincere as he gave Raina's waist a quick squeeze. "Sometime I need to go see Tarin and thank him for the help at the battle. I'd be willing to be he was probably the one that got me to the Doc Prof or whoever healed me."

Luke was silent, allowing Raina to talk and ramble as long as she needed to. It was obvious that this was something she should have let out a long time ago and yet instead she had kept it bottled up, trying to appear strong to everyone around her. Rupert had been her first love, or first infatuation, and then he had broken her heart because of his prejudice.
"I can't condone what Rupert did and there's no way I would even try to come up with some sort of excuse, but I think that he really is sorry for everything that happened." Luke said quietly after Raina had handed the conversation back over to him, "And you're right, I don't have any ex stories like that but that's because I never let my heart get involved."
Sliding his hands from her face down to her shoulder, Luke gently lifted Raina back up to her feet and then guided her to sit on his lap while he wrapped his arms around her waist.
"You love easily Raina and while that can get you hurt it's also a part of who you are. It's one of the most wonderful parts. Sure, Rupert hurt you because of his own blindness, but that's not your fault. It's not your fault that the camps made you have a miscarriage or anything of the other things that happened."
There was so much that could be said but yet Luke doubted that any of it would really have much meaning for her right now. It was like when someone died, people would tell the family members how sorry they were for the loss but it didn't really help. It was still a pain that they had to carry, no matter how much people expressed their regret.
"I'm sorry that I wasn't around to help you pick up the pieces after everything you dealt with but I'm here now. If you want to talk to Rupert, great. I'm here to support you. If you want to get away from him then I'm here to whisk you away somewhere else. Whatever you need I'm here for you."
For a few moments, Luke fell silent once again as he tried to come up with some way to lighten the situation. Was there some sort of joke he could make that would make her smile? Something that would help?
"On the upside, at least I can guarantee your first date with Rupert couldn't have been as interesting as your first date with me. Especially since you were ordering me not to look at your boobs." Luke finally said with a grin, using the memory and the choice in words to hopefully illicit a positive reaction from Raina, "I think that ahs to be one of the best starting points ever."
