The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He nodded in confirmation, "Yeah, it's they're all connected to my noodle." He held out his hand for the butterfly, which flew back to him with easy. "And if I don't eat or sleep, I'll pass out and loose my connection to them. They'll turn to dust and I'd have to start over. But as far as affecting them. It doesn't seem like it. Though..."
He rubbed his chin in thought, "Well there was this one time. I don't remember it too well because I was really, really sick. But I think I may have accidentally made a construct that walked into a fire. I remember seeing the flames and the sensation of burning. But it might have been just a dream."
He shrugged and relaxed against the tree. "Honestly I don't know how deep the connection goes or how independent my constructs are from me. Sometimes it like they have individual thoughts and feelings. Other times they're just mindless recreations of real life. It's kind of hard to explain."

He smiled at her gasp, her wonderment, it made him feel proud of his abilities. His mutation was like magic to a lot of people, especially when he left out details, the cold hard facts behind it. "Yeah, it's pretty awesome huh."he agreed. Neat wasn't the best word he had heard for it, but it was good enough. He wasn't about to take it for granted.
"So it is just a shell? Like, a pretty outside, but nothing inside? Or is it the whole package?"
He grinned further at the questions. "The whole package. Heart, brain, guts, it's all there. Even the spiracles on the abdomen."he said pointing with a gentle finger, "Though unfortunately, all that doesn't make them real animals. They don't need to eat or sleep. They have me to do that for them." He went back to eating what food was left. It had gone cold by now but he still needed the energy, so it would be worth it.
"I've spent the last couple of years working at it but it barely feels like I scratched the surface."he grinned, "With some luck I might be able to completely cut the cord and have the constructs be totally separate from me."

Ignored, kind of. Not exactly what he was expecting. Especially not in a mall. He had half expected her to either pick the cat up or call store management. That's what usually happened anyway. But this wasn't an easy ploy and he would just have to roll with the punches.
It just looked like he'd just have to get involved right away. He had Marry follow the girl while he moved from the bathroom hallway to the store. Acting as if he was looking around for something. Once inside the store he spotted the kitten and trotted over. "Marry! There you are."he sighed in relief, picking the cat up. "I'm sorry miss, she wasn't bothering you was she?"he asked, cradling the kitten to his chest.
Well, either this would result in a conversation he could lead into something for his benefit or he would be ignored. But, then again, you could never really tell with folks like these, New York was just full of strange people. He just hoped this girl was as nice as she looked.

He didn't see her stiffen but he knew he might have made her uncomfortable. Most normal folks did at least a little bit. He was a stranger after all, a stranger with a power they didn't have. It could be dangerous for them if it was some mutant who didn't have control. But thankfully he never once lost control, never once injured someone unintentionally. So he was proud to say that he was pretty safe to be around.
When asked about how his constructs were made he wondered if he should give her the full details. However, that would be rather lengthy explanation. "Hmm, how about I just show you instead?"he suggested. He grabbed a few handfuls of grass, crushing the strands a bit so they'd stick together. For show he waved his hand over the material which broke down into particles before reforming into one large winged butterfly. "Organic matter to organic life."he said holding out the delicate creature toward Shelby.
"In theory, I can make any living being I'd like given enough material and my own energy state."he explained. "But it's just a theory right now. I haven't really gotten a chance to really push myself..."

(OOC: This is an expansion on Alex's backstory, since in the profile I didn't go into too great of detail as to the journey that took him from Kuna, ID to New York, NY. Hope you enjoy.)
Before the Journey
Mutant Blasts Mall - Sacramento, California Concerns continue to be raised about the rising mutant population and the dangers they pose. -April 11, 2010
Alex stopped reading there and closed out the tab. There was no point in continuing to look at it. It was going to say just about the same as every other article about mutants. Dangerous, threatening, the outsiders, others. It didn’t matter, it was all the same on every site. What was he going to do? In this small place, living in a crowded house, how much longer could he hide his mutation? How much longer before his foster mother demanded he explain his comings and goings? He leaned his head against the desk and tried to think, forcing himself not to flinch as one of the librarians walked past the computer stations. There were no other mutants in town as far as he knew, so he couldn’t ask anyone in real life. And if he told any of the kids at school or at home they would definitely blab. Stuff like this would spread like wildfire. He lifted his head to look at the computer. If he couldn’t talk to anybody here, then surely he could connect with someone online. There had to be someone out there who could tell him what to do. It took a bit of searching, finding an appropriate board where he could pose questions to other mutants anonymously. Hopefully, someone on here could help him.
Thread: Please Help! Urgent! By: Alittlelost13 So, long story short, I got my mutation about 2 years ago and I’ve been able to keep it secret. But I’m worried that I won’t be able to hide it for long and if I tell my folks I’m know they’ll freak! I don’t know what they'll do, but it won’t be good. Can somebody please help me? I don’t know what to do. Should I run for it while I have the chance or come clean and hope for the best?
He frowned at the small amount of text, wondering if it would be enough to garner good answers. But he didn’t know what else to say that wouldn’t give away too many details about his life or have people think it was just looking for attention. That he was some charity case that needed looking after or in the case of the internet, an outright liar. Yeah, little orphan boy living with mean old foster parent. Like that was believable, his life was one huge cliché that the media had beaten to death long before he was born. It made his ears burn just thinking about it.
Still, he posted what he had and hoped for the best before logging out. He’d return to the site later to see if he had gotten any good answers. For now, he’d focus on his work. Earlier in the week he had gone with his class to listen to a lecture on birds of prey up in Nampa. If he could memorize how one was constructed he might be able to make one of his own. It’d be perfect for scouting and potentially he’d never get lost again.
With this in mind, he almost completely forgot about his post until a week later. Apparently, it had been enough to get plenty of replies. People asked all sorts of questions, his age, where he lived, his home situation, that sort of stuff. Some merely told him to remain strong and keep his powers secret. Maybe talk to a friend or find another understanding relative to live with. Still others told him to screw hiding, to be open with his gift, and not to let others push him around.
Re: Please help! Urgent! By: TheNomad Make a run for it. No mutant like yourself shouldn’t have to live under the rule of fear. This gift is a part of you, so use it. You have strength enough to make for freer lands. Where ever you are, head for higher ground or desert plans. There are few folk who would dare intrude on a mutant who makes his territory there. I’ll give you the tools to get started. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide your own fate. Nevertheless, see this not as exile but a chance to regain control of your life.
That one was interesting in particular as the guy didn’t only talk big but listed a bunch of survival sites. How to build fires, make shelters, and prepare wild game, all sorts of things one would need to know about living in the wild. Everything one would need to know if they wanted to separate from society. He didn’t know if he wanted that, if it would be worth it to run away after all. Because if he did get caught that means they would want an explanation.
Still, it wouldn’t hurt to be prepared. If the time ever came, when he no longer had a choice, he’d do as this guys suggested. However, for now he’d try and keep this a secret as long as possible, living life as he normally did and on the side he’d practice these things, along with his mutation.
So on it went. Normalcy; summer, school, and practice in between all of it. He even saved up his money for an emergency stash. Which he promptly blew on a bike. He told himself it was an investment. Something he would need in case he had to get out of town fast. He couldn’t drive yet after all. It was the next best thing. Holidays came and flew by, Halloween had been particularly fun scaring people with spiders and rats in lockers and such, and by Christmas, he had perfected a few species of birds from around town. The red-tailed hawk was his favorite and with it, he never got lost, just as he predicted. By the time spring came around, he had nearly forgotten about running away, about the looming threat of being discovered.
Then one of the other kids he was living with told him the news. “We’re going to be going to the hospital in a week to get tested for mutation.” Kelly told him, standing in the emptying school hallway, looking uncomfortable talking to him even though nobody could see.
Classes were ending, people were gearing up for vacation and he was hearing about this. “Tested? Why?”He asked this while trying to remain calm, like his world wasn’t about to fall down on top of him.
“I dunno. Mrs. Mabel just said that she wanted to be sure. Just thought you’d ought to know, since you hate going to the doctor and all.” Kelly shifted her backpack and glanced down the hall to where her friends had rounded the corner. “Anyway, I’ll see you back at the house. Try not to stay out too late.”
Alex watched her go, containing his panic until she was out of eye sight before bolting down the opposing hallway. He needed to make a plan, he needed to gather supplies, map his way. He only had a week before he was definitely found out. He couldn’t let himself be found out!

He paused a moment, trying to consider where to start. Running a hand through his hair he smirk at his own hesitance. "Geeze it's been so long...Well I guess, first things first. Ace really isn't a real bird, neither are the rats, they're constructs actually. Something that I made because...well I'm a mutant." He smiled at her, nervous about her reaction.
"I found out about it, oh, six years ago. Three years after that found me heading for the Rocky Mountains. People were going to find out so I panicked and ran away. Honestly I don't regret it. I got stronger that way and I've met a lot people from there to here."he murmured, petting the rats.
It could go either way, really. She could run away or she could be understanding, hell she could even hit him. He'd understand any of those reactions. He's actually had all three reactions from all sort of people so was bracing himself for the worse.

"It's nice to meet you Shelby." At the mention of Ace hunting for him, he glanced from her to the bird and back again. Mulling over how he should explain this without going into a lot of detail."Thing is...I'm kinda homeless right now, so I don't exactly have the funds to get food. That and since I tend to travel a lot I'm used to hunting and cooking my own food. The city is a different type of hunting ground."he chuckled.
"Usually Ace would bring a rabbit or fish if we're near a lake or something. But there's little more than pigeons around here. Guess that's why Ace went for the easy pray and stole some food instead."he sighed. He looked at his lap, petting Pick and Pocket again. "You said you don't mind life stories so long as they aren't dumb right? Mind if I regale ya with mine? It's been forever since I've had a proper conversation."
He was kind of hopeful for one. Thinking back, maybe the last time he had a good long talk with someone was a trucker going from Ohio to Kentucky. And that only happened because they were stuck in traffic for forever. This was something else though. Shelby at least seemed genuinely interested for the time being.

At her leaning forward, Ace leaned back, the birds low brow making it look thoroughly miffed. Alex could only grin at her interest in his friend. Be calm, she's not gonna do anything. he told Ace through their connection. The bird looked at him and then back at her, making a murmuring sound before hopping back a bit. "Heh, Ace here is a red-tailed hawk. Pretty dang common species to be honest, found all over the states year round. I met Ace when..."he stopped, shaking his head and laughing, "Sorry, you probably don't wanna hear my dumb life story."
He almost slipped up there. Almost started going into nostalgia mode. It's been a really long time since he really had anyone to talk with. Someone to be honest with. Most of the time, he lied and laughed, faking it till he was given what he was needed. He picked up his burger and took a bite, stuffing his mouth so he would have a few more seconds to think and give an appropriate line. Something for her to hook on to. But he was drawing blanks.
He put the half eaten burger down and coughed to clear he through. "Geez buddy you think you could have gotten drinks too."he joked at the hawk. "Ah, um, so what about you? I didn't even get you name, miss."he tried, hoping that'd she forget his little slip up and they could move on to another topic.

He shrugged when she didn't agree to eat with him but he did motion for her to sit at least. "Well Ace does a lot of his own hunting, so yeah I guess well fed is the right answer."he murmured setting Pocket on his lap with Pick, petting him in an absent-minded manner.
At the question about the food delivery he laughed. "Well it's no different than teaching a hawk to hunt other birds or rabbits. Honestly I was a little surprised by the meal. He must have stole it from somebody at a drive-thru."he chuckled. "I would take it back but I don't know where it came from so. I might as well eat it, right? It'd be a waste."
"Ace has been my companion for the last...oh three years...so it was difficult to get him to do anything at first. Now I don't even need any gear. Totally hands free."he said wiggling his fingers. On this hot day he was just in a t-shirt and jeans so his arms and hands were bare. Yet there were no scratches from the hawk's talons, not even scars. And Ace had no tags or bells or anything on him either, nothing to indicate he was owned.
Some of this was fabricated to look like he had a normal relationship with these animals. That they were pets and nothing more. He knew Ace didn't appreciate it. The longer the bird had his own body the more independent and intelligent it was becoming. Where that would lead only time would tell. But for now it just acted as a smarter than average hawk.

It was a bit of a surprise when he felt her pick up his construct. She just picked up a strange rat. Though it might have been the coloring that persuaded her. In any case he instructed Pocket to remain calm and let her handle him. The rat wasn't happy about it but didn't struggle, instead remaining curled in the girl's hands. Alex waited, it could go two ways. Either she'd run off with his construct, in which case he'd have to cut the connection with it or go after her, or she would return him.
All he could do right now though was wait and it seemed to pay off. The girl announced herself, tone nervous and when he looked at her he could see the dark red covering her face. See her up close she was probably older than her and the bag...a student maybe? He smiled at her and nodded, "Yeah, that little guy is mine. I was wondering where he'd gone off to. Thanks for finding him." Setting his meal down, he held out his hand for his furry companion.
"I'm Alex, by the way. Would you like to join us, miss? Plenty of food to go around."he said grinning cheerfully. Ace squawked and glowered at Alex, the bird knew full well that sharing food could be potentially fatal. If Alex pushed himself too far, that would be it, game over.
Instead Alex chuckled at the hawk, "Don't be like that Ace. It's not nice to be greedy." Nothing ventured, nothing gained after all. He reminded the hawk through their connection.

Alex paused in his meal, there was someone nearby, hiding it looked like from what Pocket was seeing. He debated a moment on what he was doing. He could call them out but he didn't want to seem aggressive or to scare them away. If anything a curious on looker could be an opportunity. So feigned a yawn and went back to eating, allowing Ace to pick at his food. While letting a construct eat was nothing but a waste of good food it would at least make Ace seem more like a real animal.
As he took a bite of the first burger he instructed Pocket to interact with the girl, get under foot as it were. It might scare her out of hiding or perhaps get her curious enough to make herself known. He had Pick come back and sit in his lap, nibbling at his food as well, allowing her to see the similarities between the rat at her feet and the one on his lap.
He really hoped he wouldn't have to call her out. That would just be annoying.

The shade of the trees felt good in the midday heat, the small park was empty enough to be unseen, and best of all he could afford to be lazy right now. Apparently Ace had caught something big. Alex couldn't tell what it was from their connection but the bird was excited about it. Closing his eyes he focused on the connection, Ace was getting close now flying over...a plum of smoke? Oh a bus looked like it broke down. That was unfortunate. He hoped nobody was hurt. He opened his eyes and looked up when Ace was overhead. He grinned at what he saw the bird carrying. A big bag of fast food. He couldn't help but laugh as he caught the bag when it was dropped.
"Ace, you naughty bird, who did you steal this from?"he chuckled arm raised to give his companion a place to land. He opened the bag, eager for a meal, "Oh man, good job. This looks like enough to last us a while. Fries, burgers, hmm..." He pulled the two apple fritter boxes from the bag and set them on the ground. While they were high in calories, they weren't exactly his favorite. "Let's get Pick and Pocket back."he murmured opening the boxes. It was the right weight for the two rat constructs and he had just enough energy for the two of them.
Lifting his hands, eyes closed, he broke down the presented material and reconstructed it. It took a minuet but when he opened his eyes their they stood, two little black and white rats. "Alright, glad to have you two back. Go ahead and scout around will ya?"he murmured. The two rats skittered off in different directions, leaving Alex and Ace to enjoy the rest of the meal.

Lol, glad it at least sticks with you. Which is part of what I was going for. I'm working on writing back story on those three years Alex spent traveling, so you'll definitely read a lot more soon.
