The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He smiled and gave a soft laugh, "It wasn't all bad. I mean it sucked for a while, sure, and I regretted every once in a while. But, with everything I've learned and how much stronger I am now...it kind of made it worth it. Besides if I'd stuck around...I dunno, I just don't want to be ashamed or hide what I am, who I am. Not any more."
He shifted his backpack as the memories of the past flooded back to him. All the hitchhiking, the camping, the miles and miles of roads and valleys and desert that he had traveled. It had made a difference to be away from society for long periods of time. The time alone changed his perspective on what was important, what should be important.
He glanced up at the hawk, a familiar sight for him, a familiar sensation always at the back of his mind. He couldn't imagine hiding it, putting it away like it was some secret, something shameful. Not that he was the sort that thought mutants were some sort of superior race. No, more the sort that thought that it shouldn't be hidden and that those that needed help shouldn't be judged for it.
"Don't worry too much about it though. It's no big deal, really. The past is in the past." He patted Margo's shoulder, to reassure her that her question was alright and that he was fine. Everything was fine.

>>"You can call me Maya. Most people find it easier to have a girl name for a girl. Or you can call me Mirror, that one works either way."
"Right, Maya, I'll keep that in mind."he murmured. Rolling around the hows and the ways in his brain as he ate the last of the cheese snack he had grabbed from the fridge. He would ask later, for the moment, he'd do the polite thing and just let the question sit in his brain for a moment.
>>"Ready to continue the tour? It's late, so everyone who's not nocturnal is already asleep, but I think you'll get the general idea."
He ate a couple more raspberries before closing the half empty package and putting it back in the fridge. "Yeah, lead the way." He gestured for Mirror to do so. He had nearly forgotten the time, though to be honest he was getting pretty sleepy himself.

Alex nearly jumped from his seat when a new voice greeted him. Blinking at the girl it took him a moment to realize that those clothes were awfully familiar. "Gawain?"he questioned. Did the guy shift genders? He didn't understand why he would do that. Maybe it was out of his, or rather her control.
"So the mirrorwalking comes with some extra's I guess?" He popped another raspberry in his mouth as he thought. Some mutations defied explanation, while others were simpler puzzles for one to figure out. Well as simple as these mutations could get. This, for him, was one of those.

"If I wanted, I could probably get back now, and nobody would have noticed. But now, I've seen too much here to just walk away. Besides, going back wouldn't change anything. I'd have to leave again, soon, if I wanted to stay safe."
He wondered what she meant by seen too much. Had she already witnessed violence or had hate thrown at her or someone she knew? Whatever the case it had been enough to make her leave her home and stay away. That was enough information for him. It wouldn't be polite to pry too much further. So he merely nodded in understanding and left it at that. But then Margo had questions of her own. "What about you?" Such an innocent question which held such weight.
Tilting his head to look elsewhere he tried to piece his words together carefully. Despite the fact that all the paperwork was basically taken care of, it still felt like he was on the run. "I ran away about 3 years ago. I had prepared for it. I knew that there was going to be a time when I would have to run, given who my legal guardian was. So when it happened I ran for the forest."he explained, looking back at her.

He saw the split second freeze, it was slight but he knew he hit on a sensitive subject. If only for a moment before she smile at him as if it was nothing. Maybe he shouldn't have asked. Still she insisted that it was fine. "Can't guess? And by the way, no need to continue with the whole 'if you don't mind' thing. I think we both agree we've already gotten past that part."
Well it was kind of right. He was open to asking questions. But he had been traveling so long that it was easy for him to simply gloss over the big details, pretend that they didn't matter. For her he had a feeling it was different. And he was kind of right. "Left home not a week ago. Been wandering the streets since."
So he was right in assuming that she hadn't been out long. Good, she wouldn't have to suffer like a lot of people like them did. "To be honest, this was a sort of heat of moment decision. I used my mutation as an excuse for getting out into the world to prove myself. You know the show, I don't think runaway teenagers are all that uncommon."
He nodded, "Yeah, I know that pretty well. I've met a few actually, former ones too." Gawain came to mind. He hadn't really talked to the guy about his past but he knew enough that the guy had been on the run like he had before ending up at Xavier's School. "It's actually something I can relate to. Something spooks you, like somebody is close to finding out or maybe you get blackmailed or something to that effect, and you know you have to get out before things go south, or souther. Powers just make it easier to escape."he said.

Alex followed Gawain about the mansion. The decor was really nice but here and there, there were signs of people living there, so it didn't feel exactly like a museum. He wondered if this place had curfew since they didn't run into anybody yet. Though they only made it as far as the kitchen.
>>"Damn... Almost midnight. Hey, um... Alex? How about you grab yourself some food, I'll be right back. Gotta run to the bathroom. All food is fair game, unless it has a name on it. Make yourself at home."
"Uh, yeah, thanks."he said watching the other hurry off to the restroom. What was that about? Shrugging it off he turn toward the fridge, weighing the option of cooking or not. He probably shouldn't. Given that Gawain would be back soon. So opening the fridge he looked for something edible to snack on.
Checking the packages for names he picked a little container of raspberries along with a couple snack cheeses. Nothing big, despite being starving he knew better than to gorge himself on the available food. He'd only end up making himself sick. Best to stick small things.

"I think I'll be fine. Sure, this is my longest time out yet and I plan to stay for quite a while ,who knows maybe forever, but it's not my first adventure. Thanks so much, though."
Once she was up and affirmed that she could make the walk on her own two feet he took his hand back. He instructed his constructed to fly ahead and give him a path to follow. "It's no problem, let's get going then."he said waiting for her to follow before starting to walk.
"Hey, if you don't mind me asking, what exactly is your living situation?"he asked curiously. She said this was her longest time out, did she have someone who kept bringing her home? What was home for her? Why did she feel the need to leave at all? Or was the situation that her family or guardian didn't want her but the cops kept bringing her back? He glanced at her, these questions swirling in his head.
It wasn't his place to ask really, he barely knew her and she barely knew him. But...she couldn't have been any older than him, probably younger, and while there weren't any outward signs to worry about, there was no discounting the internal. What scared her away from a potentially safe place?

>>"Sort of...I'm a mirrorwalker."
And then suddenly he was being pulled into a mirror, like some weird scene out of Alice in wonderland. The sensation of being flat, 2D he guessed, was like nothing else and he wondered what the effects of being in here for a long time would be. A momentary thought that quickly pop out of existence when they returned to the real world. Which was comprised of a huge entry way that was, to say the least, fancier than any place he had ever been to.
>>"Ta-da! Welcome to Xavier's."
"Holy cow, are you sure we didn't just break into some old dudes mansion?"he said turning around to get his bearings. He felt overwhelmed, just slightly out of place, but mostly excited. He looked over at Gawain and smiled at him, "So, uh, where do we go from here?"

Wince at the girl's rather loud cheer. From the sound of it he just made her day. Which was awesome, spread the good around to those who needed it. And while he doubted it'd be much of a problem, he hoped she could join him at the school. She seemed like a good person.
"Heh, totally. I've heard of this boarding school, in fact that's where I'm headed. Problem is, nobody I've asked seems to know exactly where it is. You gotta tell me more about this!"
"It's a pretty cool place, plenty to eat, comfortable rooms. There are roommates of course but I honestly don't mind at all. I'd take six roommates if it meant I got to sleep in a bed. There are classes, I'm gonna sign up and catch up on what I missed. I've heard they're pretty good classes so I'm hopeful that it won't take too long to get to where I should be. Um, the mansion is pretty big, so I haven't explored all of it. Maybe we could explore it together."he chuckled, before standing, brushing the dirt from his pants. "I can show you where it is. It's a bit of a walk though, think you can make it?"he asked offering her a hand up.
He didn't know how long she had been without a home and he knew how tiring those first weeks could be. If anything he could attempt to carry her piggyback style, she didn't look to heavy after all.

"Not half as cool as yours. No, thank heavens it's not permanent."
"Heh, not as cool as you think. And who knows, maybe you just need to practice to get more out of it." He could imagine such a power being very beneficial to helping people if only momentarily. Who knew, with a little work there may be more about the power to work with. Part of him understood why people shied away from their powers but they were amazing and worth exploring, as painful as it might be sometimes.
"Just wondering, where do you stay?"
A wide grin spread across his face at that. "Up until a week ago I was staying here and there and well basically anywhere I could get away with. But I met this guy and he took me to, well, basically a boarding school for mutants and so far it's been really amazing. I don't know how these guys are paying for it all but yeah, that's my current living situation. Why? Need a place to stay?"
The girl didn't look particularly in dire straights but again, looks could be deceiving. She might have only just run away a few days ago.

>>"Let me go! I know what I'm doing!"
Alex glared at her, that was the dumbest thing he had ever heard. "No lady, I really don't think you do!"he whispered back just as aggressively. There was no way this woman could do anything to stop the mad man with a gun. It was a gun, what was a normal human going to do against a gun and weaponless. However this train of thought was distracted by the sensation of his arm snapping and he knew without looking that Ace's wing had just been broken.
He bit down on a scream that threatened to spill from his lips as the pain reverberated through his arm. He was just grateful that the damage hadn't been any greater than that. The man could have easily crushed more, as fragile as birds are bone-wise. Still that and the wind warning was enough for him. He did his part, he'd leave right now but then the woman spoke again and...good lord.
>>“Look, I’m going in there if you like it or not. Look at all the bodies. Look at what he did to your bird. There’s no way I’m letting this man get away with this. I’m gonna look in this trashcan for a weapon of some sort.”
And of course she had to open the dumpster and scream when she found bugs inside. What was she expecting to find? An arsenal? Still the scream was not going to help.
>>“Don’t let ‘em eat me!”
"Sheesh, they won't eat you, those are mine and I guess I'll have to use them if your going in there, regardless."he sighed, sending the swarm in quickly after the man with the gun and cutting his connection with Ace. With the connection cut the bird turned to dust. He hated to do so but it was only causing him more pain to keep him around.
With the pain gone he concentrated the swarm around the gunmen's head, blind, irritate, potentially frighten away. Though he couldn't be certain, this guy did kill a lot of people without seemingly getting a scratch on him.

"Aww... I'm sorry about earlier. Tell the truth, it was my fault Ace got hurt, wasn't it? How are you now?"
He shook his head and smiled at her. "Nah, honestly Marry here shouldn't have been playing rough like that. But she's kinda the more aggressive of the two I suppose, silly bird."he said giving said bird a look. Said bird glared right back and with an indignant squawk went to roost on a tree branch. He shook his head, can't control them all the time.
"I'll be okay. It just aches a bit right now. Hurts less every time."he said waving it off. He made a mental note to figure out how to train with pain control. It would suck but it would be useful now that he had a place to rest officially. Also on the agenda, new clothes. It was about time to change them anyway. Needed to stop dressing like a hobo.
"No, it's okay. My powers, uh, aren't tangible. I think of them as psychic waves capable of increasing/ decreasing sensitivity to a certain emotion, or altering your beauty perception."
"Heh, that's pretty cool. Is it permanent?"he asked. That'd be interesting, changing the way people perceive things. Certainly easier than his own from the sound of it. Then again, the devil was in the details.

The tiny swarm danced about her finger a moment before they all settled in a neat little row on the offered perch. "No, not entirely. I'm connected to them, including all the nerve centers. Hence the little freak out earlier."he explained with a shrug. After so many years of experiencing the world through his constructs it was starting to become easier to recover from.
"If I concentrate enough it's kind of like an out of body experience." He looked at her, curiosity edged at his own mind. Earlier she had said she had tricks of her own. It could mean she was a mutant as well. She as a bit better dressed than him so she probably had a home to go back to. Or at least he assumed. Judging by clothes alone said nothing of status.
"So, uh, what about you? You said you had some tricks up your sleeve. If you don't mind me asking that is."he said.

"I don't mean to pry, but could you elaborate?"
He pretended to think about it a moment, giving Marry a sideways glance, leaning towards the bird. "What do you think? Trust worthy of our secrets?"he said softly. To which the bird had no outward reply, but if the look of annoyance was any indicator she wasn't all that amused. "Yeah, I think so too."he grinned.
"Alright, elaborate I shall. It's actually pretty simple. You take organic matter,"he said picking up a couple of nearby fallen leaves,"and presto-chang-o you get organic life." With that he changed the clump of leaves into a few fireflies, breaking down the material and reforming it. "Pretty neat huh?"

"It's nice to meet you Margo."he said genuine as he could. While most chance meeting had turned out to be fortunate for him, one couldn't chance a touch of suspicion. At least momentarily. Though her next words ease him a bit.
"You wouldn't believe me, but I've seen a lot weirder."
"Ah, so you're no stranger to the abnormal. That's good to hear. I'm guessing you at least have seen a few mutants, maybe know a few if you've seen weirder."he said smirking. He looked over at Marry and gestured to the bird to come perch on his arm. "Margo, this Marry, a construct of mine. Marry, this is Margo."he said introducing the two.
The bird screeched in greeting, dropping the sack as she did so which Alex picked up and put in his backpack. "The one that had fallen had been Ace, another of my constructs."he explained, hoping to quell any worries that may have remained.
