The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Margo followed the bird across the park, stopping at a vantage point a safe distance away. She got there, panting a bit after the chase (Boy, did that hawk fly fast!) just in time to observe a slender figure toss some sort of sack into the air, which was promptly snatched by the bird. then another northern goshawk, from her distance pretty much identical to the first, flew in from the opposite direction and joined in the fight. Not only an obstacle course, but a bird fight? She didn't want to be anywhere near it. Who was that idiot staging a fight with two potentially dangerous raptors, and did she mention right above her stone arch too?
Upon getting a little closer, she discovered to her surprise it was only a boy, around the same age as herself. He was watching the flurry of bird above his head with an expression of interest. Was that his crazy idea of amusement?
She sidled carefully up behind him as to not give the hawks a new target. "Hey. Are those your birds, and may I ask what you're trying to achieve with them?"

It was her own fault for getting sidetracked into a nearby park because she wanted to take a closer look at the stone arch, Margo supposed. She'd been reading all about stone arches lately, before she'd left, and was really interested in seeing one in person. The girl's curiosity, piqued so easily, would be the death of her someday. Anyway, there she was again, taking an educational stroll in the park instead of heading where she told herself she should have been by now.
It didn't start out bad. She took a quick look at the park map, and was on her way to Huddleston Arch, when she was distracted by something bright in the grass. Getting closer, Margo saw it was a strip of yellow paper. She decided to ignore it. Probably just some trash anyway, and she had somewhere to be.
She did stop to investigate when she saw yet another makeshift marker. Crouching to observe how it was cleverly secured, a large shadow of a bird chose then to swoop right over her head, startling her out of her wits. "Nanyate!" What the heck? That Japanese phrase always seemed to slip out first. Was that... a northern goshawk? Doing an obstacle course?
It was flying in the general direction of that stone arch she wanted to see. Sighing, she took off in pursuit. Maybe it would lead her to whichever individual was flying a hawk over an obstacle course in the park. She had something to say to that person, whoever he was.

"So strange, you don't wear it on your head."
What? Margo thought. That was surprising, and gave the girl quite a bit of pause. She was wearing a hat, and it was on her head. Was he looking at something else? Oh, she wished she could see him. He had a huge advantage in being able to see her. Or maybe, a figurative hat. "What do you mean? I-"
Then, the little cockroach crawled out from behind a bush. Argh, she hated cockroaches. Indestructible, nasty insects. But this one was actually... Sort of cute. Was it actually the source of the voice though, or one of his minions? Or family members? She stared at it hard a while, judging. Small and it acted decidedly more like a human than a bug. That didn't exactly rule anything out. It could have been a visible mutant, born tiny but smart, with human vocal cords and who knew what else. She doubted any human's X-gene, appearing later in life, could have changed him so much. Or maybe it belonged to a bug- creating mutant. Who knew?
"I apologize, I am not quite the centipede you imagined. Do please refrain from coming any closer. I fear you may try to crush me. Tell me, then... In what way are you a mutant?"
First person, Margo noted. Was it a ploy for her to believe he was the bug? "Oh." She said out loud. "Sorry if I insulted you, that wasn't my intention." She decided not to look at the little cockroach himself, but behind the bush from which it had crawled.
"I haven't completely figured it out yet, but I can mess with things in your head. What about you?"

"You cannot see me. I may as well be the Cheshire cat. Tell me. What is a lone human doing sitting alone in a place like this. You do know it's very dangerous in this part of the city... For those like you. I like your hat, by the way."
Margo peeked around. Where was that creature, whatever he was? He'd said she could not see him, but was that entirely true, or was he just toying with her? His other words gave her a sense of foreboding. What in the world had she gotten herself into now? It looked like she might have to run for it after all.
Then his choosy vocabulary hit her. "Human" and "those like you." She had yet to meet a person who discriminated unless they were outside named group, Hitler and the Jews, Civil War all over again? If he was some sort of wraith, that might be it. But if he was a mutant...
For once, she thanked her lucky stars for her mutation. Probably useless in day-to-day life, but it gave Margo good access to both worlds, human and mutant.
The girl decided to test the waters. "Thank you! That is, I'm glad you like my hat." She said politely. Then "But I'm not quite sure I should start spewing answers yet, seeing as I can't see you. One thing though, you might not want to label me quite human, unless you're a centipede or something. Then, I won't judge you from not differentiating between humans and mutants." She was taking a risk by implying that she was a mutant, but here, alone, it was the best chance she had. He'd called her "human" with distaste in his voice, so he couldn't be a mutant hater. Right? Right?
"Who exactly are you?" Same question again, hopefully this time she would get an answer.

The voice came suddenly out of a bush, startling her.
"Poe wrote on both.." Followed shortly by, "And I believe you were looking for... WHY is a raven like a writing desk?"
"Goshdarnit" Margo said reflexively, more out of surprise than anything, jumping to her feet. Once her mind caught up with her body, she realized she must have thought aloud. Embarrassment colored her cheeks as she realized her misquote. Then, probably far too late, the caution seized her. Where had the voice come from? Lofty, quiet, bored, male was all she remembered. She was alone in the park, surrounded by shrubbery behind which anything could be lurking. Did the voice belong to a kidnapper? Murderer? For all she knew, the Pied Piper was hiding behind a tree, waiting to pounce.
What should she do? Remaining carefully on her feet, she took a quick inventory. Smoothie, half-eaten sandwich, backpack, hat, bench chained to the ground. Nothing of much use. She decided if somebody tried to attack her she would run for it. Margo was pretty confident he wouldn't catch her.
She stalled, taking a sip of that oh-so-good smoothie. Replied in that same voice of the classroom, curious and respectful and just a little bit giggly. "Whoops. I suppose, that's quite clever. May I ask who you are?"

Margo, was, of all places, at the park.
What was strange about a girl at the park? Nothing.
What was strange about a mutant girl who had run away from home, one who normally spent as little of her time outside on public property during the hotter seasons as possible, sitting by herself in a deserted, shady area, eating a quick lunch and sipping a smoothie? Yeah. Practically nothing, either.
It wasn't by any means an outlandish idea, but it definitely wasn't Margo Jewell.
Hey, the smoothie- pineapple and strawberry- was good.
She had yet to find a place to stay, so after lunch, she would check that out. After asking around, she'd been given the idea that there were several good mutant shelters in this area. She would take a look. For now- sunlight, pineapple and strawberry smoothie, the park.
That phrase from the movie Alice in Wonderland was stuck in her head. "How is a raven like a writing desk?" Margo pondered the question. Well, they were both matter...
Was there even a right answer to this question? Ugh, she thought.

Character
Personality: Margo has a strange, almost contradictory personality in some ways; very quiet, she often keeps to herself and she likes to judge other people. She's kind on the inside and can sympathize with anyone, although she holds certain people in high contempt. She either respects a person a lot or looks down on them. It's difficult to gain her trust and/or respect, but she is incredibly devoted and caring to her small group of friends and will do almost anything to ensure they are safe. She's a very good liar and actor and knows how to manipulate people; she also knows when she is being manipulated most of the time. She respects honesty, kindness, honor, courage, and intelligence in people, and is constantly looking for those traits in everybody, including herself. Therefore, she has very little self- respect, thinking that she is a bad person. Sometimes, she feels like she doesn't even know who she exactly is. The fact that since her mother died she didn't really have anyone to tell her how much she is worth doesn't help much either.
Although it may not be that obvious (deep philosophical discussions intrigue her to the point that she will ditch small talk for them) she has a very strong sense of humor and is fun to be around. She likes to read a lot, and can learn almost anything as long as she sees the purpose in it.
Hobbies/ Interests: Reading, learning of any sort, sports (used to play table tennis) Job or part time job and description: none Works at a local coffee shop Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Spiders, heights, the dark, needles, no purpose to life, nobody to care about her, being a monster, being the cause to other people's pain... etc. Special talents: Can speak Japanese (Her mother taught her up until she passed away when Margo was 7, then she kept on studying by herself) and is very good at table tennis. Has an excellent memory for things that interest her
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Neutral, but could go to either side. Although she is mature for her age, she is still slightly childish in a sense, still undefined. If somebody would come up to her and honestly persuade her to do something to the advantage of her friends or herself she would do it as long as she wasn't aware that she was crossing the line between good and evil. Or, she might realize but pretend to herself she wasn't. She has strong moral standards, and often appears as a goodie-goodie to others because of that, but give her a good reason and she'll do almost anything.
Mutations
Mutation description: Margo can send out various frequencies of emotional inclination and/or beauty perception. She can magnify any emotion she's ever felt, or distortion (as in perception of beautiful or ugly) to a certain strength and send it out over a given area in the form of waves, very similar to radio waves, but on a mental level. The waves, when they reach a person in her range, either suggest the particular emotion (former power) or alter the beauty perception of everyone in the affected area (the latter). someone standing by Margo when she increases his beauty perception will see everything through the new "lenses", not just her or the area she is affecting. Nothing tangible changes; if someone was able to snap a picture of the new, beautiful world and compared it to a Before picture, there would be no difference. How effective her power is depends on the previous mood and/or disposition of the person/people affected- at her highest strength frequency for an incredibly short amount of time (Maybe, 30 secs) she can make a sad person feel better to the point of seemingly illogical contentment(He would return to his previous mood once her power tapered out) It takes less effort to influence somebody whose current emotions matched her influencing ones; an already happy person could reach slightly greater heights of joy. Strengths: Overuse of her power has no particularly bad physical side effects, perhaps she might be a bit tired after exerting herself but nothing more. If her body senses that she is pushing herself too hard it will simply shut the troublesome power down. Weaknesses and Limitations: Margo can't read minds, so she has no way of knowing how her powers affect the people around her, except through visual observation; she only knows how much of what she's doing and about how far she's affecting. Sending out a medium strength frequency with a radius of 10 feet for about two minutes is just about all she can currently do. (This is the same for however many people in the area she is affecting- if there was only one person the effects would be considerably stronger however than if there were ten) The greater the strength of the frequency, the less distance she can radiate the feeling, and the less time she can keep it up.
Margo also experiences an "echo" after using her power, namely she has to experience the exact opposite of whatever feeling or perception altered, exactly as strong as she sent it out and for the same amount of time. i.e. Sends large load of calmness for a minute to a friend, later experiences overload of panic for a minute.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Margo is not physically strong or flexible, but she has very good reflexes and is very speedy. She has moderate stamina but would much rather sprint. Fighting Style: No fighting style really, has taken basic self-defense lessons and has learned how to make the most of her body in a fight only because it interested her. Not very violent unless frightened Fighting Style Pros/Cons:
History Of Your Character Margo was born in Toronto, Canada to very loving parents; her father was a Canadian scientist who had met her mother, a young Japanese nurse, abroad, after a traumatic accident that hospitalized him for quite a while (luckily, he sustained no lasting injuries). Her father married her mother and brought her back to Canada with him, and she gave birth to Margo soon after. The family continued living in Toronto until just before Margo's third birthday, when they moved to South Carolina (because her Japanese mother couldn't get used to the cold temperatures of Canada, among other reasons). She had a pretty peaceful life, brought up mostly by her mother while her father worked to keep them comfortable. Then her mother was killed in a car crash.
This was the first of two turning points in Margo's life. Her previously loving, but distant father became even more distant; he worked harder and provided for Margo's needs, even humoring her all around interests in foreign languages, table tennis, computer programming, etc., but went out of his way to try to forget her as much as possible. As a consequence, Margo became increasingly lonely, independent, and resentful. Life went on, even though for a while she thought it wouldn't.
She only recently discovered her power, though she had been feeling its effects for a while. Every time she felt a strong emotion in school, the whole class would be subjected to the same emotion. It was freaky, but passed off as purely coincidental, until one day, after Margo received a rare B on her social studies test, a friend confronted her about her suspicions. Margo remembered grudging disbelief and horror when Lucy came up to her and said, quite simply, "I think you might be a mutant." Eventually, she accepted this fact as the only explanation as to why Lucy would have felt such shame and self-anger at the same time as Margo, although Lucy had gotten a perfect score on the test. Her unusually perceptive friend was also the one who confirmed Margo's guesses that her power might also extend to beauty perception:
On one very rare occasion, Margo's father took her and Lucy to a museum; Margo was thrilled, as her father never really paid much attention to her, much less took her anywhere. Her father insisted they visit the science floor first, although the girls wanted to see the art displays downstairs. Unconsciously, Margo made everything on the science floor look starkly brutish, (she liked science, but thought art the more creative and beautiful of the two, so she kept repeating in her head "But the art's so much prettier!") in an effort to get them to go to the art floor. Her father finally caved, and nothing much came of it. Margo never thought much about that coincidence, as her powers didn't affect her and she couldn't tell the science stuff looked bad, simply passing it off as her father finally paying some attention to her wishes, until Lucy brought it up later.
Even after accepting her differences, Margo still found it difficult to live like before. She never told her father about any of it, and decided to travel loner for a bit until she could properly control her mutation and get her feelings under check.
IC History: June of 2014: Margo moves into the Mansion. December of 2016: Margo's father is killed in a car accident.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Google Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: no Kai Sample RP: Margo sighed loudly as she scribbled down the last answer on her homework, folded it in half, stuck it in her math book, and put it away. Glancing at her watch -she was done rather early today- she pondered what to do for the rest of her afternoon. Her father was away on yet another business trip, not that it was really that different when he was home, so the house was quiet. Normally, she'd have invited one of her friends over, not that she exactly felt normal around her friends that much anymore. She felt like a freak, a freak who had to hide her freakiness, and Lucy was the only friend who really understood her. Clever, brutal Lucy. She should invite Lucy over- Wait, never mind. Her hand already on her phone, she put it down deliberately. She'd ruined it with Lucy, too, yesterday.
She hadn't meant to, she really hadn't. She'd tried, for once, to use her power deliberately, for something useful. She'd walked in on Lucy crying, nearly backed down, but sent her the gentlest of whispers of peacefulness. She berated herself now- Margo, you should have said something. You shouldn't have tried to be subtle. You know how Lucy hates subtle.
"Get away from me, you freak" Lucy had spat, her whisper more hurtful than any shout. Freak. Not Margo. Lucy, maybe the only person she had left in the world, had called her a freak.
It had hurt like being stabbed, stabbed a thousand times. First she'd been unbelieving, then hurt, then angry. As if Lucy didn't know better than anyone else how much Margo dreaded that five-letter word. As if Lucy hadn't been fascinated and at times longing for her power. Somehow, it hurt more coming from the friend who had told her straightforwardly about Margo's mutation, who hadn't judged, who had encouraged her and been there for her.
The doorbell rung, downstairs, and she knew who it was. Speak of the devil and she should appear. Margo's heart jumped up in hope, then fell. If it really was Lucy, what would she say? Would she still be angry? Probably not; she had always been the type to flare up and forget about it an hour later. That was why she had so many friends. Margo, on the other hand, could hold a grudge.
Could she forgive Lucy? After what she had said?
The bell was ringing again. Then a muffled voice, knocks on the door. Determined to ignore her, Margo went over to her bookcase. Pulling out the closest book- it was science-fiction, she paused. Damn. She'd forgotten. Lucy had a key. No.
She wouldn't. She wouldn't let Lucy in. But if Lucy came in herself... That would mean Margo had no control, not even in her own home. She sighed, steeled herself, went to the door. Sure enough, it was Lucy. Already fumbling for her key. That was incentive enough- Margo opened the door.
"Mar-go" Lucy said, in her usual singsong way, as if nothing had happened. "Mu-tant Mar-go." There was silence, and Margo considered shutting the door.
"Margo." As if, Margo thought, her name had power. Anger resurfaced. She wanted to revoke the privilege to say her name. Freak, was it?
Lucy was looking at her feet. Now she looked up. "I didn't mean it. Margo, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. I really didn't."
"You've gotten better." She added as an afterthought. Margo considered. After all, the anger was still there. Maybe it would go away with time, maybe it wouldn't. But really, could she live without Lucy?
"Come in." she said.
"I know you're angry, but I can't feel it. Seriously, you're better."
"Really?" Margo asked. This time, the smile came naturally.
