The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Yeah, I know that pretty well. I've met a few actually, former ones too."
Hmm. She wondered if that included Alex himself.
"It's actually something I can relate to. Something spooks you, like somebody is close to finding out or maybe you get blackmailed or something to that effect, and you know you have to get out before things go south, or souther. Powers just make it easier to escape."he added.
"Yeah, you get the idea" Margo said. He was actually very close to the idea. From his words, it sounded like he was describing what had happened to himself, or maybe happened to one of his close friends. Thank goodness, he hadn't really pressed her further on the matter about her family. "I just got out of there."
Thinking on it, she added " If I wanted, I could probably get back now, and nobody would have noticed. But now, I've seen too much here to just walk away.besides, going back wouldn't change anything. I'd have to leave again, soon, if I wanted to stay safe."
"What about you?" She'd already pieced together most of his story, but was still interested in hearing his confirmation.

She'd just decided to take a look down the street to the right and had peeled her back off the lamppost when the shout reached her ears just as someone snagged her wallet from one of her pockets.
"Sorry!"
Years of table tennis had taught her quick reflexes, the occasional jogging to build stamina, speed. She whirled around, running after the thief. He actually was rather slow, and she caught up quickly, reaching out a hand to grab at him. It was sort of hard to tell in the rain, water blurring her vision but there was something about him that wasn't what she'd call normal...
"Where do you think you're going with that, sir?" Margo demanded, keeping her voice down. No need to draw attention to them, or even risk it, even if there wasn't anybody about.
What sort of thief snatched wallets from unsuspecting girls on the street, yelling sorry back at them as he ran off anyway? She had to admit, he would have been rather good at it had he not given himself away with the shout. And why run if he knew he couldn't get away? He had to know that, being as slow as he was. The apology left her wondering if he wasn't really sorry and had stolen out of need. If that was the case, she'd be glad to give him a reasonable amount of money.

"It's no problem, let's get going then." He waited for her to follow, and she did. "Lead the way." His hawk construct flew ahead, almost out of sight. It almost reminded her of the story of The Lord leading the Israelites through the desert, in a pillar of cloud by day and one of fire by night. Of course, there were those major differences..
"Hey, if you don't mind me asking, what exactly is your living situation?"
Margo almost froze, for a moment. Her attempt to distract herself with Bible stories: failed. She'd known that question was coming. She'd practically invited it with her last remark about adventures. It was her own fault. Raising an eyebrow, she smirked a little at Alex. "Can't guess? And by the way, no need to continue with the whole 'if you don't mind' thing. I think we both agree we've already gotten past that part."
Keeping her expression steady despite the hurt the question brought up was easy after so many years of practice. Actually, more like she chose to laugh at the boy instead of over- dramatize the truth. He must have thought- oh, what could he be thinking? So many things that never could have happened to her. Better assuage his fears now.
"Left home not a week ago. Been wandering the streets since." Good, the easy part was over with. "You wondering about my family?" She could have spilled the whole story right then. With a sigh, she chose the roundabout route. "To be honest, this was a sort of heat of moment decision. I used my mutation as an excuse for getting out into the world to prove myself. You know the show, I don't think runaway teenagers are all that uncommon." If he couldn't fill in the blanks himself, she would have to continue. She hoped he could.

Margo had always loved the rain. She didn't quite know why; maybe it was all that water falling around her, that clean, wet, cold feeling in the air, the steady rhythm of it. Anyway, she liked to occasionally step out into the city when it was raining.
It was getting a little late now, though the clouds had been blocking out any sunlight there might have been for hours. The rain was falling steadily, more than a drizzle but not enough for a storm, thank goodness- Margo hated storms. She'd made her way around almost half the city, only to find herself in unfamiliar territory. She was anything but lost. Well, who cared, now she could explore!
The girl, water running off her hood, paused for a moment under a streetlight. "Hmm.. Where should I go first?"

"It's a pretty cool place, plenty to eat, comfortable rooms. There are roommates of course but I honestly don't mind at all. I'd take six roommates if it meant I got to sleep in a bed. There are classes, I'm gonna sign up and catch up on what I missed. I've heard they're pretty good classes so I'm hopeful that it won't take too long to get to where I should be. Um, the mansion is pretty big, so I haven't explored all of it. Maybe we could explore it together." Alex laughed as he stood up, brushing himself off.
All in all, it sounded really good to Margo. Almost too good, of she hadn't heard of the place before. Rooms, classes, supposedly a big place. If all of it was really true, it'd be the most wonderful thing that ever happened to her. If not, who cared. Alex's remarks about a bed and classes made her wonder how desperate he truly must have been though.
"I can show you where it is. It's a bit of a walk though, think you can make it?"he asked offering her a hand up. She almost laughed at his remark, coupled with the helping hand. Her knight in shining armor, huh? She gratefully took his hand to pull herself up not putting much weight behind it but doing it anyway, it was a helpful gesture on his part right?
"I think I'll be fine. Sure, this is my longest time out yet and I plan to stay for quite a while ,who knows maybe forever, but it's not my first adventure. Thanks so much, though." She replied.

"Heh, not as cool as you think. and who knows, maybe you just need to practice to get more out of it."
"Yeah, sure." Margo said absentmindedly. Under any other circumstances, she would have argued or at least demanded an explanation for that, but she was too busy waiting for Alex's answer to her question. He was grinning, so that was a good thing.. Right? Please, please, know where the place I'm looking for is.
"Up until a week ago I was staying here and there and well basically anywhere I could get away with. But I met this guy and he took me to, well, basically a boarding school for mutants and so far it's been really amazing. I don't know how these guys are paying for it all but yeah, that's my current living situation. Why? Need a place to stay?"
"Yes!!!" She practically screamed to herself; finally calming down a little, she replied. "Heh, totally. I've heard of this boarding school, in fact that's where I'm headed. Problem is, nobody I've asked seems to know exactly where it is. You gotta tell me more about this!" Gosh, this guy actually had the answers! Freaking gosh, she was so glad she had asked.

Alex quickly dismissed the thought that the previous incident had been Margo's fault, to her relief. She looked on, amused, as he and Marry took part in a short glaring contest which ended as the hawk promptly when to perch in a tree. That was curious, it almost seemed like the bird had a personality, from something apparently made out of "organic material." "..hurts less every time." So he had had that happen before? She felt infinitely bad for the poor thing.
"Heh, that's pretty cool. Is it permanent?" In reply to her explanation.
"Not half as cool as yours. No, thank heavens it's not permanent" She said with a laugh. It was true, her mutation was absolutely boring, unnoticeable, an excuse for an x-gene, and had a ton of bad effects. She frowned to herself, thinking of the echo, which she hadn't quite figured out yet but didn't like anyway.
She turned away for a second to examine the stone arch which had been the only reason she had wandered into this park anyway. It really wasn't even that interesting. Well, fate knew what it was doing. Maybe she and Alex could help each other in more ways than they first imagined.

He was explaining about how he was connected to his constructs, including his nerves. "Interesting." She said. Very interesting. So their minds and bodies were linked? That was convenient.. Though she thought it could often seem the other way around. "Aww.. I'm sorry about earlier. Tell the truth, it was my fault Ace got hurt, wasn't it? How are you now?"
"So uh what about you? You said you had some tricks up your sleeve. If you don't mind me asking that is."
Actually, she didn't mind in the least. Looking down at the fireflies perched on her finger, she realized he'd already been so honest with her that there was no way she could back down now, and still be a decent person. "No, it's okay. My powers, uh, aren't tangible. I think of them as psychic waves capable of increasing/ decreasing sensitivity to a certain emotion, or altering your beauty perception."

Margo chuckled to herself as Alex made a show of asking his bird whether it thought she was worthy of his secrets. Biggest drama queen of all time, she thought to herself. Next moment, her grin was lost in an expression of wonder as she whistled softly.
"Pretty neat, huh?" That boy. Grinning as what had been a handful of dead leaves became a handful of fireflies. His delivery was smooth and sounded like it had been practiced before, a corner of her brain noted. The rest of her was just about drowning in that little tidbit of magic he'd shown her.
Organic material into organic life, huh? The words were deceptively simple, pleasing but not even shadowing what Alex had just done in the least. For a second, she wished she had a power like that, one to be noticed. But every power had its drawbacks. What were his?
Taming the excitement in her voice, Margo replied "That looks quite handy. Are your... Constructs.. Independent from you?" She stretched out a hand, hoping for a firefly.

He made a polite reply, remarked on her remark about having seen weirder, and then explained, again rather politely, about his constructs.
"Nice to meet you, Marry" she said, smiling a little at the hawk, or rather, construct. "Sorry about Ace." Her curiosity hadn't been satisfied yet though. Constructs..? How exactly did they work? What did he make them out of? Did they expend his energy? "I don't mean to pry, but could you elaborate?"
To his earlier words Margo just smirked a little. "You bet." Alex's demeanor put her ease, his honesty prompting honesty of her own. "I have a couple tricks up my sleeve, too."

"You're probably thinking this is really weird right? Honestly I wasn't expecting an audience but that's what I get for doing this in a public park."
Well, Margo had to give it to him he was tough. Brushing it all away as if he hadn't just appeared to have a heart attack, or something equally debilitating.
"I'm Alex by the way and you are...?"
"Margo" she said, giving him a little smile as she squeezed the offered hand. Under other circumstances, she would have noted he was rather cute, even if dressed like he'd been living in the streets for a couple months. Who was she to judge? If he was a mutant, it wasn't improbable. In fact, dozens of homeless mutants wandered the city, herself might being included if she didn't find somewhere to stay.
A knowing smile, but none of the answers she was looking for. That was fine. Hey, if he didn't want to talk about it, she wouldn't pry. She'd ground other's feelings into the dirt before, time after time, in her ruthless search for answers. It wasn't until after she'd gotten her own mutation that she realized how hurtful that could be. And for her, it was only Lucy that knew. No the answers had to come out and she would get them today, but they had to come out gently. in reply "You wouldn't believe me, but I've seen a lot weirder." She laughed a little at herself. "Well, define 'this'.

What the freaking heck had she just seen?
Margo glanced from the still wheezing boy to the spot where the dead hawk had been, narrowing her eyes. At first, she'd simply thought him an overzealous bird owner, then a careless lunatic, but now... No apparent injury suffered, but there he was, still moaning weakly about how he was glad he hadn't landed on his face. That made her narrow her eyes even more, because he hadn't landed anywhere. His bird had. Mutant? Probably. What did he do? Talk to birds? Establish psychic connections with them? Create the birds themselves?
She wanted so bad to ask him.
She watched him as he slowly took a drink of water and tried to push off the pain. Watched the other hawk fly down with almost a smug look on his/her face, little sack clutched in his/her beak. If Margo could have, she would have slapped that bird.

"Ah, yeah, they are and this is just training, not a death ma-"
Apparently she'd broken his concentration, because with a look almost resembling martyrdom he'd turned around to address her. She opened her mouth to say it didn't look much like training to her, but was interrupted by the sound of one of the hawks plummeting down to earth and crashing with a sickening sound. She winced and turned her face away toward the woods. He'd said it wasn't a death match? Well, he'd been wrong. She almost felt sorry for the boy as she turned around to look at him-
-and found him on his knees, on the verge of passing out. "Oh my gosh, are you okay?" Duh, of course he wasn't. It had been a courtesy to ask. She was beside him in a moment. "What happened?"
Steeling herself, she glanced at the dead bird, which crumbled into dust as she watched. "Nanyate.." Was it a good idea to ask him how that had happened when he was in such a state? The boy looked like he needed emergency help.
