The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

”You’re mad at them not at me!” Sam chirped back wishing the chanting to stop. It didn’t. The chains vanished and he fought the other one holding his hand. Ice formed on the spectral links and he hit it a few times until he was freed.
There was more latin, Sam wished he paid attention more when they tried to drill the language into him when he was a kid. ”What are they saying?” something about a sanctuary? The demon part he got.
One of the mystics fled with a body bag after the light in the room faded. There was blood and another mystic bleeding. Sam looked to Rex hesitant to do anything else. This wasn’t his wheelhouse and he didn’t know how magic worked. He hated it. Simple as that.
The room got hot and bright and he severed his thermal sense bringing more ice to coat his body protecting him further from whatever was happening. A lone eye shut and he called the clone to step in front of him.
His eye opened and he was staring at... ”What the **** is that? it leapt after the order. Sam moved to the side and shoved Rex out of the way. The creature landed on Sam and they both rolled backwards into the wall. Shoving his feet under whatever the heck the frog thing was he pushed slamming it further as he tried to move out of the way.

“Are pretending we trust each other completely? I can do that if you want.” he said back to Sabine, Sam had reason to mistrust anyone who abducted mutants or started that way. Trust was earned, though this was a good start to building more of it.
“It doesn’t, makes it easier to work our magic. Remember the volcano?” Sam asked ducking a blast of heat that zoomed past him and exploded in green when it hit a frozen mystic. “Sides, gives us the home field advantage.” unless the army of mystics could control water and ice as well.
Shin arrived next and Sam got hit with a touch of nostalgia, these were people who he’d lay his life down for without any questions asked. His family, and this was their home. “Bout time!” he said with a chuckle throwing another mystic into a reflection and holding them there for Maya.
Jorge responded to the call to the rescue after the sprinklers kicked on. With another chuckle he looked to the nearest group of mystics, all of which were wielding some glowing weapons. They were smiling, good. They thought they had an advantage. After Jorge left, however, Sam felt a little more relaxed about using his abilities.
The water droplets on the mystics turned to ice and quickly grew upwards until each of the mystics in the group closest to him froze in place. Their expressions turned sour and Sam kept moving forward to the entrance. He needed to seal it off to give the rest of the defense a chance to regroup.
“I’ll make a bottle neck!” he shouted and started blasting at the front of the mansion walls which quickly erupted in ice. “Cover me!” he shouted to his teammates that were still around.

“You think I like it?” Sam asked not caring if the channel was open. “I trust her about as much as she trusts me.” Mirror started pulling mystics into the reflections making their abilities useless. “but you want to take over for her and leave me to deal with all of these @#$@’s alone?” Sam asked as he threw another mystic towards an empty reflection.
Something warm whizzed by as Sam ducked. He did not know what they were throwing at him but knew it would have been better if he was not hit. That was his rule about most fights so this wasn’t too out of the ordinary... except the whale. He didn’t know what that was about still but figured Hercules, Rex and the others could handle it before it got to the school.
Sam’s amor split from him forming a clone, another one appeared from one of the mirrors making it a little smaller when the ice material left. “Kill the muties!” a mystic shouted as they ran past a few of the mirrors with their fellow mystics banging on the ice for help. “Kill the-” Sam caught the mystic in the face and broke his nose with a quick jab sending him falling onto the ground. One of the clones jumped him freezing him to the ground. “You’re all trespassing!” the icemancer shouted.
It was too early to tap into his Winter Wonderland ability. The fight just started. “Sabine, turn on the sprinklers. I need a power up. Jorge could use one as well.” he said joking with his teammate. The air got colder the further he moved towards the gates. Mirrors of ice and golems shot out of the snowbanks when he approached grabbing anyone who was close.

”How?” Sam asked grunting and moving away from Rex at his suggestion. Ice dug into the floor now trying to disrupt the circle. He didn’t understand magic. Nor had a belief in it until recently. It was not in his wheelhouse. Give him a mutation and he could figure out a few ways to defeat it. Magic? Only thing he could think of was kill the caster and it was still frowned upon for X-men to kill.
Someone else entered the room. He heard Latin and suddenly his arms were bound. Sam looked down to see the same chains that held Rex moments before entangling him. He pulled and tried to loosen them failing in freeing himself. ”Come on!” he shouted as from the center of the room where the ice was covering the ritual circle a blade of ice erupted and fell cutting one of the chains it was his foot.
With his foot now free he formed some ice and kicked upwards hitting another chain. It took two more strikes but he freed himself. ”What now?” he asked blasting some fire that caught on a curtain from Rex’s spell.
The ice worked it’s way into the grain of the wood where the ritual was being cast. It warped and spread till the circle broke and caused the flooring to become uneven.

Mirror made the request, mystics were arriving. Some commotion from the side of the mansion caught his attention first then the whale appeared. “On it! Maya!” The icemancer looked around for Carrick and Zek, one of them could get him there faster than a slide. The idea left him when he Shin and Carrick fly away from him and towards the woods.
“Fine.” he said out loud. “I’ll get there my own way.”
Chiming into the communication device, “Good call Sab. On it!” there was sarcasm in his voice but she was right Sam also jumped from the front of the mansion roof leaving his post and Mai up there. He was more useful with combat than recon anyway. The air rushed past him as he shouted to Hercules who was easy to spot standing next to Rex and... Ami?
“Herc!” he called hoping the giant was good at hearing. “Throw me at the gate!” The giant dropped his club caught the icemancer and whipped him around in a circle, “Hey Ami.” he said before being launched forward towards the front gates far faster than he was intending.
His eye closed for a second and he felt he cleared half of the grounds. As he passed snow banks ice leapt up to his body attaching itself till he was covered in armor. He needed to slow down. He was moving too fast even if he could use ice it would have hurt to catch his fall.
That was when a mystic floated up in front of him by the mansion gates. Past the line of MRC and Super agents, “Thanks!” Sam shouted as he opened his arms extended some ice to one hand and used the floating mystic to stop his trajectory which was heading to the ground. The mystic turned around a few times in midair and was sling shot from the grounds and back past the gates. Before he touched the ground several mirrors appeared on the ground where he was landing. “Mirror! You're up!”
Several mystics rushed towards him when they saw him land in their group ignoring the frozen reflective walls around him.

It would have been easier if he was alone. He didn’t verbalize that though, Rex brought him along it would have been rude to ask him to sit this one out. The whole place would have been frozen solid by now. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and they were close to finishing from what Rex said. He was the magic expert. Sam was just along for the ride.
”Hold on.” his eye opened as he turned he couldn’t focus on Rex, or near him when he was using his thermal vision. Raising a hand he shot a beam of blue, one that remained for a few seconds. He was aiming for the floor where the seal was. Hoping it would help. He hated magic. It was too unpredictable.
Ice creeped upwards from the floor until it looked like a miniature iceberg. A clone started to crawl out reaching for the mystic who had just kicked Rex.
Sam’s lone eye spotted Rex chained. ”****” he cursed and ran into the room disengaging with the mystic who just missed him again with a baton that whistled with each whiff. A blade of ice formed and Sam took a swing at the spell restraining Rex.

She shouldn’t be a trainee. She was overqualified for the position. She was just young. Sam raised a hand up apologetically and chuckled. ”Forgot who I was talking to, carry on.”
It was a training session but also an trainee interview. He was there to observe and protect if something went aggressively wrong. She didn’t want his help. Fair enough. ”Yes ma’am.” he said taking the order knowing full well the standoff would continue until someone was spotted inside.
Giving her a wave he leaned on the nearest cruiser, his eye focused on Lenna as she went up the fire escape and into the building. ”Give me a visual on Lenna” Sam said it loud for the danger room to hear and process. A small screen appeared in front of the icemaner as he watched everything that Lenna was doing.

There was heat, Rex was fighting back. Sam couldn’t focus for too long otherwise he felt he would go blind. It was like looking into the sun. Speaking of which, the room lit up behind him. His eye was still shut but he could see through his closed eyelid. He didn’t want to open them incase he was sent into another mind **** illusion. He always doubted he could fight those off. It was... too welcoming.
The clone froze in place as the four green chains wrapped around the clones limbs, Sam could have countered it but he wasn’t paying attention. He couldn’t see what was restraining the clone at the moment.
Movement in front of him caused him to sidestep again as the baton whiffed the air where his nose was seconds before. The mystic followed it up with another and another. Sam dodged them all well enough but he was noticing the man was trying to drive him into a corner where another mystic had moved to. Chanting behind him and now in front the baton he couldn’t see started to get hot and he had to sever his thermal sense. His eye snapped open and he saw it was on fire. Cute.
”Rex, how we looking buddy?” he wanted to know the timeline of the portal or whatever the spell they were working on. He didn’t know magic but he was phenomenal at working under pressure.
The air moved rapidly behind him in fact small debris and shards of broken ice started getting lifted and sucked up to a point between the mystic behind him. Sam smirked and willed the ice to jet outward long enough to stab the mystic disrupting the spell and causing said mystic to their knees trying to stifle the bleeding.
Sam turned blasted a beam of ice and froze the found and them in place before turning to the last one he was tangling with.

Snow started falling around the mansion, it was cold. Flecks of white littered the campus courtyard. It was the calm before the storm. Sam stood atop the mansion channeling more cold into the air around them. This place was a fortress. One that had been attacked numerous times. It was something that they had prepared for time and time again. Now though it wasn’t practice. It was a very real threat. So much so that they had to prepare. Call in friends, allies and powerful acquaintances.
The grounds would become a battlefield, while the halls of the mansion would become chaotic. Which was why he loved the idea of placing frozen sheets of ice everywhere as a reflective surface for Mirror to travel through. Piles of snow gathered forming ammo for Sam to call upon when they attacked. He was quite, he was waiting. No doubt Mai or Carrick or anyone else would notify him if there was a breach anywhere.

The sound of bone a nose breaking could be heard from the impact. A little harder than Sam wanted but they were planning on sacrificing someone to open a gate to hell. Or wherever they were planning on opening a gate to. Sam just knew it was bad. A broken nose was nothing compared to an army of demons being unleased in the city.
Sam didn’t get the answer he was expecting, in fact probably no one was expecting what happened next. The room grew dark just before a brilliant jet of fire erupted from where Rex was. Sam could tell because the person that was getting tangled up with the two that were tackled to the ground was getting warmer. Hot even. Too hot to feel.
Severing the connection of his thermal sense during the durations of the flames Sam slammed a wall to his back pushing up against the faded wallpaper.
The house grew orange with fire. At first Sam thought it was the portal opening, but then again this was not a roaring inferno of a burning building, this was coming from a person's breath. He had seen Rex spew flames before. At least those creatures were made of flames. This was no different other than the intensity of the heat. It was... not as hot as he had seen Rex breathe.
He was holding back.
Another jet of fire in a circle then darkness. In those brief moments of darkness and cold, when the light and heat faded Sam made his moves. With the wall to his back, he got a scene of everything. Those with their attention turned from Sam to the flames and those in the room still chanting. A clone of ice formed again this time charging right into the room to give Rex a hand. It was going after the triangle of people.
There would have been two after them, but the baton whistled through the air hitting the other that formed slightly after.
“You are fighting us freak. You don’t have time to be looking elsewhere.”
Sam chuckled, if they could have seen him properly, they would have known his good eye was shut. ”I’ll have to make this quick then.” the air around them got even colder as more ice climbed up the wall and up Sam.

Ice climbed up Sam’s arms and feet as he landed a knee into a gut sending the target top double over and roll to the side, it was fight that was for sure. His lone eye focused on everywhere but the eyes of the other mystics. It was about as predictable as jumping into a fight with random mutants, he didn’t know their skill sets but he was trained. Meaning his clones were trained and Rex well...
Rex ran into the other room. That was fine, he didn’t have to worry about giving his friend frost bite. What he did have to worry about was Rex being on the floor with those he tackled. It was a bad time to be on the ground. ”Rex!” he shouted sidestepping the knife wielding woman whose head was glowing blue. ”Your right!” the knife hissed through the air as he dodged again.
His eye was able to focus on the hand movement now while his thermal sense illuminated the rest of the rooms to him. Rex was on the ground with two others, there was a third running towards them.
The air in front of Sam hissed again as the blue headed woman snarled at him and sliced the air again trying to blind Sam. ”I only have one left!” he shouted blocking the third strike and grabbing hold of the hand controlling the knife.
”Clone!” Sam shouted and spun pulling the woman into a throw. One of the clones turned disengaging with it’s target to hold open a stiff arm catching the woman that was thrown. She dropped.
A baton whizzed through the air striking the lone clone that was still formed causing it to shatter with a small ‘crack’. That shouldn’t of happened, in fact the wall of ice shouldn’t have cracked either. They were using magic. Great.
”Rex, how you doing in there?” Sam asked sidestepping another baton and countering with a back fist to the guys face. The temperature dropped another thirty degrees causing one or two of the candles to go out as ice overtook the candle.

The closer he got to the house the more and more flickering of thermal readings became clearer. Despite Rex’s abilities. Candlelight take shape meaning Sam was already coming up with a game plan. The way they stood made the center of the circle and the focus of the would be cultists clear but there was no one in the center. Not yet at least.
Eyeing the front door Sam wondered what the best point to enter would be. If they did a direct approach... his lone eye focused on Rex walking past him while his mind raced. The clones were about to circle the house and jump in through the first floor windows however that wasn’t what happened.
The door was kicked open and entered. Sam stood on the outside waiting for Rex to move in. He did, then the firefighter was thrown like it was nothing. ”Rex, think we found it!” when his friend smacked into the wall next to the door Sam had all the clearance he needed to press inwards, his clones followed in toe.
The robbed figure that tossed Rex was met with a clone who tackled it to the ground while Sam and the other figure of ice surged into the main room. ”Oh ****” he wasn’t sure what he was looking at. It didn’t matter though, it didn’t' need to make sense. His lone eye shifted to every ones feet while he relied on the thermal readings to give him most of his information. He wasn’t going to be mind wammied again.
“Keep chanting!” one of the cultists shouted as he charged Sam. With a sidestep and a shove his attacker was pressed into clone number two who wrapped around the hooded figure and fell backward fusing the robed one to the wall with a sheet of ice.
The chants were going, ”Ooga oooga chaka!” he repeated his own chant trying to distract everyone while he lunged at the next figure.

Rex’s heat source grew and Sam tried to ignore it, it was the same issue with the flames but knew his thermal imaging ability often made it colder for others. There was a time when all of his teammates had to wear jackets when going out on patrol with him. Thankfully he had learned to control his powers better.
The cold around Rex faded away no longer focusing on the mystic. There was no reason to at this point. Sam trusted the man. He was after all one of his sponsors meaning he knew more now than most probably. There was no way this was a trap set up by the man. Right?
”Five.” Sam repeated back to himself and looked over his shoulder to the ice clones. Both of which were now fully formed and awaiting orders from their creator. They stalked behind Sam in silence. ”So you keep telling me.” there was a reason he turned to drinking instead of religion. One was something he could see feel the other... less abundant in his life.
”We are.” the fireball faded and his thermal imaging spread out before him looking for any major heat sources. There were rats, lots of them. He could ignore them for now, when he Rex and the clones approached they scattered well enough. Hopefully the mystics they were about to drop in on would do the same.
Two houses lit up. Both of which wouldn’t have seen odd to Sam but one of them generated far more heat than anything else on the block. The heat wafted off the broken roof escaping from all of the neglected holes. ”Think I found it.” Sam said nodding his head and waving the clones forward. They scattered to the end of his controlled range and started to close in on the house that seemed the most off to him.

>>>”More data is required. I wish to only move when it counts.”
The icemancer chuckled. She was experienced in battle. That was his first thought as well. Years of training drilled into him at such a young age. It often felt like he was going against his very own nature jumping into fights and rescue operations now.
”Is it?” Sam asked curiously. ”We already know enough to find a better vantage point. We can’t do much here on the outside. The police and hostage takers will be at a stand off until one side concedes enough to get the other to move.” Sam watched as the police ran from behind one vehicle to another all keeping their eyes on the entrance to the building.
”We know that there is at least one hostage. They could have ran when they were outside, the rope would have been easy enough to handle but they way they looked... leads me to believe that there is someone they can’t run away from. Meaning multiple hostages.” he said simply, ”We also know standard practice is to block off all entrances and exits but we don’t really need those do we.” he said looking to the side of the building.
There was an window cleaning platform suspended ten floors up. It was the point of entrance he and Mirror took to enter the building last time. There was also a fire escape.
”This is different than the missions we are used to, the longer we take the more likely someone is injured.”

”The thought did cross my mind to set it up for a session I run with the other trainees but no. I have seen you firsthand in the field, I’ve seen what you are capable of and what you need to refine and perfect.” Sam said honestly.
”You are more skilled in hand to hand than most of the others on the team, but that isn’t what gives you a spot. It's wanting to make the world a safer place for us, mutants.” he paused and turned his neck slightly to give it a crack before continuing. ”And by doing so we help show that we aren’t something to be feared. We want people to be happy when they see us.” he said with a smirk.
They were both deadly, years of practice on both ends. That didn't make an X-man though. The X-men didn’t kill. Something Sam still struggled with. Maybe his true purpose on the team was to train those who could follow through with that thought process.
”So... smile because you are about to find yourself stopping a hostage situation.” Sam said looking up, ”Danger Room, Session frozen mirror 15.”
The room hummed to life, cars started forming in the streets followed by a number of marked officer vehicles. People started to litter the street none of them moving yet as the program hadn’t started. They surrounded a bank, one of the larger ones in the city. A clear line behind them to keep out pedestrians. This was based off a real scenario that he and Maya had run into a few years ago. Filled with one too many, ‘Hold up’ moments.
A voice boomed to life before them as the officers started to move and take cover behind their vehicles all drawing their guns and pointing at the front of the bank as someone exited the building. Their hands were cuffed behind them as they stumbled out for a moment attached to a rope behind them.
“Earlier than expected. By my count thirty seconds earlier well done. This is how it will play out...” the hostage shouted obviously terrified. Sam folded his arms and looked to Lenna to take lead.
