The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

James had never heard the term "Adapted" be used on the news before, butthen again he didn't really know anything specific about mutants either. Apart from the odd bit of info he had stumbled upon during his many hours surfing the web. Either way it wouldn't really make much of a difference to him if his mutation was being nullified.
James wasslightly shocked when Leon revealed that Serena had saved him from muggers. What was Serena's power? He thought she would have something seemingly harmless or...well something that matched her personality. But something that could take down a group of muggers? Damn. That's pretty crazy...Mental note, Don't annoy Serena.
James waved to Serena as she went to leave. "See you around, and thanks for showing us the way". He looked at his wrist, deciding whether he should take off his watch or not. He felt safe here and didn't see any reason why his arm would randomly turn into steel. Shrugging he decided to leave it on, besides he would probably end up walking into Gemma's field at some point while following her.

After James and Leon follow Serena into the building his impression didn't change. The place was just as nice indoors, much nicer than his mothers house in terms of...well everything really. In the Lobby they met up with a smiling woman who introduced herself as Gemma Taylor. Her friendly demeanor calmed down James' nerves a little, allowing him to relax visibly. He could feel his muscles release their awkward tension and the fluttering in his stomach die down.
James was about to introduce himself at the same time as Leon but was cut short by Serena's warning and her arm. Only just managing not to bump into Leons back as he stopped. James stepped to the right so that he could talk properly and introduced himself. "And I'm James"
The idea that Gemma had some kind of mutation which made other mutants suffer ill effects was a new one to James. He had obviously considered lots of other mutations people could have but most of them had been rather simple, nothing strange like this one. He considered it for a moment, as far as he could tell his mutation didn't have any passive effects on him. Other than making him tired after using it that is...so why would it effect him at all? He could kind of understand Leon having a bad effect, after all he HAD just eaten cigarette ash and James was fairly sure normal people could NOT do that.
Deciding that it was probably better to find out if it did anything as soon as possible and deliberately, than find out unexpectedly James stepped around Serena and moved closer with his hand out, imitating Leon's offer for a handshake.

When they reached the gates it began to dawn on James just how big the mansion grounds were, this added to his growing nervousness at the prospect of living somewhere new. James waved sheepishly at the camera as Leon declared their presence and that they needed a room in a surprisingly professional manner.
The butterflies in James's stomach started to go haywire as Serena had them passed through but her reassuring smile calmed them down a little. "Right" he replied to Serena a little nervously "Urm, lead the way I suppose"
Looking around at the size of the place really blew the initial mental image of the mansion out of his head. It wasn't just the grounds but the size of the mansion itself. In his minds eye is had appeared as being only slightly larger than the usual big house, however it looked as if it had considerably more floors that he had even considered. "Wow...this place is...Big" he commented dumbly to nobody in particular.
Well, living here would be crazy...i wonder how big the rooms are. James had quite a lot of stuff and had been worrying that he wouldn't be able to fit it all in, now he wasn't worried in the slightest.

James was going to reply to Leons question as they rounded the corner and started walking towards what was obviously the mansion. Instead he replied with a dismissive shrug and looked intently at the large iron gates feeling rather excited.
When Serena started talking he wasn't really listening for the first bit, mainly because he was concentrating on trying to suppress the nervous feeling coming from deep in his stomach. As always the concept of having to talk to strangers had its effect on him, making his body go all awkwardly rigid.
Doing his best to shake it off James started listening properly to Serena. He was pleasantly surprised to hear that the small blonde had been thinking from the same point of view as him. After she apologized for her short outburst of reason James wasn't sure what to say, his mind was mainly focused of getting down the road and into the mansion.
"Urm, Its alright. Don't apologize." Again, James was tempted to ask her what had happened but decided against it, not wanting to pry having seen how that approach turned out with Leon.
Turning to Leon then, he shrugged and smiled sympathetically yet awkwardly. "I suppose I should apologize for prying, sorry about that" Feeling even more awkward now he avoided eye contact and nodded towards the gates "come on. I dunno about you Leon, but I'm dying to get a look at the whats behind those gates"
While he picked up the pace he focused most of his attention inward, trying to do his best to kill the awkwardness which was threatening to surface properly.

As soon as James asked Leon the question he knew he was right. Leon's reaction told him everything he needed to know, the cold tone to his reply, the clenching of his fists and the way he shoved them in his pocket in an attempt to hide his anger.
James probably wouldn't have noticed if he hadn't been feeling the same way for the past half a year, Somewhere down the line loneliness had turned to bitterness. Regardless of how he felt James's heart went out to the other teenager, being rejected by your parents wasn't nice and the only reason he had been able to deal with it himself was that he had grown accustomed to spending spare time alone.
He was about to apologize to Leon for prying and make a witty remark about his offer of a cigarette earlier but he didn't get the chance when Leon began asking a question to Serena about the mansion. James would apologize later when he had the chance. Deciding that he should probably know as much about the mansion as he could he turned to listen to Serena's answer.
After Serena had finished talking, admittedly he was a bit sceptical about the whole idea of there being malls on the mansions grounds, Surely she meant NEARBY and not literally in the mansions grounds. It couldn't be THAT big. However the idea of finding a nice place to read a book sounded like a good idea to James, looked like Serena and him had at least one thing in common. I wonder if they like games too...although they don't really seem like the gamer type. James considered inwardly, Well, to be fair. Neither do I...so their appearance doesn't really mean much.
Then Serena told them they were almost there. James had wanted to ask more questions, but realized that was probably pointless as they were almost there, he would see everything for himself.
"Right" James said to Serena "I can put this back on now." Putting his hand back into his jacket pocket he rooted out his watch and strapped it back on, feeling back to normal, He rarely took his watch off and it felt wrong when he did.

When serena confirmed that the Mansion sometimes got wrecked every now and then he felt glad that his mutation wasn't particularly destructive. He had no idea what the other two could do, he was going to ask but decided it was probably rude, like asking someone what colour underwear they were wearing...which would be weird.
James mentally shoved away that train of thought away when Serena mentioned roommates, that made him feel a tad nervous. He was bad at meeting people and didn't send across a very good first impression to most people and he thought that the only reason he hadn't awkwardly pushed these guys into disliking him was because they had something to talk about. It would probably be a different story if he was put with a random person and expected to get along with them, it wasn't that James disliked meeting new people, only that he never knew how to start conversation...or how to converse at all really.
He wondered if he would be shoved in one with Leon, considering they were arriving at the same time. That would be alright considering they were already met, the smoking might get on his nerves but Leon seemed like a nice guy.
"That's a relief"James said to Serena. He wanted to ask what had happened to make her arrive at midnight out of the blue, it sounded like a story she wasn't going to want to share so he left it out.
Instead James turned to Leon "So, Leon. I'm guessing you just arrived?" He smiled and shook his head "If that's the case I have nothing to complain about, at least I've lived in this city for two years"James looked at his arm then, remembering the night he found out that he was a mutant and the way his mother had distanced herself from him because of it. "I'm going to also assume your parents are embarrassed about you being what you are too, eh?" James kept his voice down on the last bit, so that no passers by got what he was saying.

James felt a bit relieved to find out that he wasn't the only one who knew nothing about the mansion when Leon revealed that he knew just as little about it. He nodded at the other teenager when he introduced himself, even though James thought it was pretty obvious that he had already picked it up.
James wasn't sure what to think when Serena said the mansion was huge, he thought that this was also pretty obvious. but then again, the fact that it had swimming pools and other stuff around it meant that he had probably underestimated its size. James had thought that the mansion would have been as large as the average school, probably with a couple of extra floors. Maybe he had the right mental image but still, the idea that it might be even larger than that made him feel a bit excited about arriving.
Turning to Serena James asked "Me arriving a day early wont be a problem will it? Its just, I kinda don't have anywhere to go to if it is" He made a self mocking smile and shook his head "Oh well, I suppose that's what you get for arguing with your mum. Could be worse though, to be fair"

James was surprised that Leon had only arrived in America today. It must have been a bit overwhelming for him, to come to a completely alien country and then be expected to find his way in a city which he knew nothing about. James certainly remembered his first time in New York and how mind blowing it was, but then again he did have his mother with him at the time and she did know where she was going.
Then even more surprisingly Leon looked at his cigarette, then at the area around him too, presumably to check for onlookers and crammed it into his mouth. Daaammmnnnnn, that's gotta be nasty. James commented mentally, Yeah, definitely a mutant. Normal people cant eat hot cigarette ash.
When The Girl asked them if they knew anything about the mansion James didn't know what to say. Mainly because for the first time he realized that he actually knew nothing about it. He had seen a picture from far away but apart from that, no. Nothing. "Honestly?" He asked "I have seen a photo, but Ive never seen it in person, I don't really know anything about it either. Now you mention it." James felt foolish for the third time today after admitting that. He was going somewhere that he was going to be living, but didn't know a thing about.
Then, probably not so surprisingly, the girl introduced herself. She smiled at him too, which made him feel awkward. The awkward tensing was threatening to return but he pushed it back as best he could, attempting to look natural in the process. Serena, that was a nice name. James thought so anyway, the name suited her. Serena was the right kind of name to give a person who was friendly and smiled a lot.
To his amazement, James smiled back. A proper, natural smile. Not one that was twitching or over done or awkward. The awkwardness seemed to flood out of his system as he came to notice that these people were being kind to him, something that nobody out of his family had really done to him before.
Well, I suppose I have just made a couple of friends. That was a nice thought, and not one James had the joy of thinking often.

James let "the girl" take the lead and began following just behind her on the right. He knew he wasn't actually supposed to be at the mansion until tomorrow morning but considering the situation he had decided going there was his best shot. Rather than trying to find somewhere warm to sleep on the streets until the next day, something he never intended to try.
James hoped that arriving a day early wouldn't be a problem. If it was he could just ask to charge his phone and call his mum, he could apologize for the way he had spoken to her and maybe she would forgive him. I'm going to have to eventually. She is my mother after all and i cant just let the fact that I'm a mutant stop that. Even after telling himself this James still wasn't sure if it would be that simple, his mum didn't have any problems with any other kind of person. She had always accepted people of all races and of, well any social variable at all and James had been brought up to think the same way.
So why does she hate mutants so much? He asked himself, does she think they are dangerous? Evil? He simply couldn't get his head around why his mother hated mutants so much.
The only two other mutants i have met are these two, well I'm guessing they are mutants. Leon and this girl were obviously quite nice people. Leon seemed to be friendly, if you got past his dirty habit. "The Girl" also seemed to be nice and willing to help.
"Ugh, mum you make no sense" James muttered to himself without meaning to.
Then The Girl spoke to them. asking if the staff knew he was arriving.
"Hmm, kind of. I'm expected to be arriving tomorrow morning but the plan changed. My Mum might have called to let them know but i wouldn't count on it." James said the last part with more bitterness than he had probably intended.
When she said she had arrived at the mansion at midnight for the first time it made James question the severity of his own situation. He looked over at Leon and realised that he must be in a similar situation himself. The thought made James feel foolish, here he was, complaining about his own situation with someone else who was probably in exactly the same one. Leon didn't look at all upset or worried.
In The Girls case he couldn't even begin to imagine what situation would make you turn up at that time. It must have been considerably worse than his own.
Pull yourself together James and stop being pathetic. He told himself. James took a deep breath and blew it out, slapped a smile on his face and again, for what felt like the hundredth time, hitched his bag higher up his back. Now, He scolded himself. I have nothing to complain about. Besides it could be worse, a lot worse.

James nodded at...Leon, that's what the Blonde had called him. "Yeah, that's right. I moved here when I was fourteen, with my Mum. She had a dodgy breakup with her boyfriend and needed to get away" He shrugged "I didn't really have much to leave behind to be honest, so it was no biggie"
He turned to the blonde girl and noted that she left out the word mansion. right, why hadn't i thought of that? He nodded to...what was here name? she still hadn't told him. The girl, I will just have to call her "The Girl" for now.
James started to walk in the mansions general direction, Checking over his shoulder to make sure they were following. They were, Good. "Alright" He said over his shoulder to the blonde girl "you should probably lead, considering you know the way"

James was relieved when the girl told him she knew what having an annoying mutation was like, good. They wont be angry then. Sure enough she told the other guy that smoking laws were different here. James felt like agreeing but he didn't want to sound like a kiss ass so he said nothing.
He shook his head at the other British teen "No thanks, i don't smoke" Didn't he know that the laws here for smoking were different? oh well, i suppose he will find out soon enough. James thought smoking was disgusting but had no problem with it unless they blew the smoke in his face, that REALLY got on his nerves. Sure enough the girl told the other guy that smoking laws were different here. James felt like agreeing but he didn't want to sound like a kiss ass so he said nothing.
To her comment on their nationality he replied "Yeah, I'm British, from Nottingham. You know...Robin Hood?" he felt the awkwardness returning so he changed the subject.
"Anyway, my mum just kicked me out. I was supposed to be going to the mansion in a taxi tomorrow but...well i don't have to explain, you get the point" He pulled out the Print off out of his pocket again and looked at it, feeling stupid about the fact that he couldn't even follow a map. He tore it up into five pieces and dropped it on the ground.
"Ugh, Cant even follow a damn map" James muttered to himself as the pieces blew off into the distance. Looking back up at the others he pulled his right sleeve up and undid his watch then dropped it into his shorts pocket.
"My name is James by the way, nice to meet you" James thought introductions were in order, considering he wanted these peoples help.

James was relieved these two seemed to know their way to the mansion. He was saved! "Yeah i know I'm sorry"He replied because really, he was sorry that his mutation had activated at such a bad time. he didn't want the only other mutants he had met to think he was an imbecile.
James as he pulled up his left sleeve as he said "it seems to have a mind of its own and does it without me wanting it to" as he said this he placed his right palm on his left forearm and willed his skin back to normal. He felt his sense of touch return as human flesh pushed back the steel.
suddenly James realized the accent. "Are you...you are British!" this just kept getting better. He had found other mutants who seemed nice and just happened to be British.
better than i could have hoped for, James grinned mentally.

James was walking along and thinking about what it would be like at the mansion when someone walked into him. His first thought was that he had been silly and let some rioters get the jump on him, as a result James felt the tingling feeling that always came with the use of his mutation as the watch on his arm allowed it to turn to steel. He felt it go up to his elbow and then it stopped. As James stumbled to the left he turned quickly, raised his arm slightly to defend himself but stopped, Realizing he had jumped to conclusions.
What he saw in front of him was not at all what he expected to see, it was a guy, about his age, probably older wearing a posh looking waistcoat. He had brown hair and was a bit taller.
James's muscles relaxed as the guy apologized, not with much enthusiasm, which was acceptable considering the cities current situation. He nodded at the teenager awkwardly and noticed the attractive blonde girl in a teal coloured dress standing next to him as she giggled at her companions clumsiness.
Oh gosh, a girl, a good looking one too. James thought as he felt the feeling of his body going rigid and awkward. Which always happened when girls were around.
"Aha, its no problem" James laughed self-consciously as he offered the guy a hand up, not thinking properly as he didn't realize that he had just offered a stranger a hand up with an arm made from steel.

As James walked through the streets of New York he pulled out his print off from Google maps for what felt like the thousandth time that day from his pocket. He new he was going in the right direction. He just didn't know which street he was on, not that that would help of coarse because he had been an absolute twit and printed the map off way too small.
He had been fine for the first ten minutes, walking in a straight line, directly towards Xavier's Sister School. He had thought that he couldn't go wrong.
Just a straight line, James had told himself. What could go wrong? But that had been the problem, it was in a straight line.
James wouldn't have been walking to the school in the first place if he hadn't fallen out with his mother earlier that evening. Their relationship had been distant, even hostile since he had discovered that he was a mutant and eventually it had gotten too much. James had confronted his mother about her lack of interaction with him and she didn't take it well.
She had screamed at him about the fact that he was a freak and that no son of hers could ever turn their body into metal. She had then proceeded to grab his packed bags and throw them out of his window, the whole time ranting about James being an imposter and that her James would never speak to her like that.
Then James lost his temper. Those bags contained his iPod, Nintendo DS and a few of his books which he had done his best to keep in good condition. He had yelled at her, which he was now ashamed to admit. He had said things to her which he didn't really mean but could never take back.
oh well, it could be worse. She could have thrown me out without anything. James had told himself this about ten times since leaving his house for the mansion and was starting to believe it. The original plan had been for him to go there in a taxi early in the morning but now he had to walk through the streets, in the near dark, with all his valuables while rioters ran around like headless chickens in a mad frenzy of...well, rioting.
Which is why James had diverted from his original simple and straightforward track. He had seen two groups of rioters on the way and had to doge into alleyways and change his coarse quite drastically.
Now he was truly lost. James had lived in New York for 2 years but he had never really left his houses general vicinity, well not often enough to know his way around the rest of the city.
James was now running on the hope that he would find some fellow mutants who would know their way to the mansion before it got dark. He was running on the hope of an unlikely encounter which most people would have given up on by now but if James was anything, he was an optimist.
James slapped a self-encouraging smile on his face, pulled his backpacks straps tighter and zipped up his jacket in an attempt to fuel a burst of optimism.
Naturally that's when a group of rioters decided to turn around the corner about fifty meters behind him and start shouting in his general direction.
This can only get better. James reassured himself, Once i get away from these idiots. He looked around for another alleyway or building to dive into. Luck was on James's side as there was an appropriately placed alleyway on his left which branched out in to directions.
Stopping only to turn around and give the rioters the finger, he dashed into the alleyway where he took couple of lefts and then a right and came back onto the street outside of Central park. He stopped to catch his breath and then keep walking in the mansions general direction, Hoping to find someone who knew their way and didn't want to take all of his belongings.

Nationality: English Ethnicity/ Cultural Heritage: Caucasian
Appearance
James is an average looking guy; his hair is dark brown and of average length, it is shaggy and usually unkempt as he never brushes it. His eyes are pale blue and his skin tone is a healthy tanned colour, as you would expect someone who spends all his time in the suns to have. James stands at an average height of 5’8”. Basically James is your normal average Joe teenager.
James has a jolly Happy-go-lucky demeanour and is always positive in everything he does, even if he is in the worst situation. He comes across as likeable, however his social awkwardness sometimes makes first impressions a bit dodgy.
Hair color and style: Dark brown, shaggy unkempt hair. Skin Tone: Tanned Eye Color: Pale blue Height: 5’8” Build: Athletic Visible mutation: None, however when he uses his mutation he is very visible. Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings: None Other features: None
Everyday clothing style: James usually wears casual clothes unless the occasion calls for smart dress. Shorts and T-shirts are what James feels most comfortable in, mainly in bright colours like yellow and white.
Uniform: None.
Sleepwear: James is always knackered before he goes to bed. Because of this he can never be bothered with sleep ware. He normally just sleeps in his boxers.
Miscellaneous clothing: James always wears his silver watch on his left wrist. It is made of steel which helps with his mutation. He knows that with the watch he can transform half of his arm (up to the elbow) in emergencies.
Character
Personality: James is quite boyish, he doesn’t really like sport but he has always kept himself fit with daily exercise. He is quite socially awkward, mainly around girls but even then he’s generally quite easy to get along with. Mainly because of his jolly Happy-go-lucky Personality and his undying positive outlook on life. Despite his behaviour and seemingly impervious positivity James is really quite insecure and always worries about what others think about him. He has always found it hard to make friends and spends most of his time alone reading, exercising or playing Computer games. Because of his difficulty making friends he feels extremely endeared to people who openly express him as such, he feels a strong loyalty and desire to protect people he cares for and in situations where they need his help he will be there, without a seconds thought.
James is intelligent; He could easily do well in school and get A’s in his subjects however there is always something more interesting and he finds it excruciatingly difficult to concentrate.
Hobbies/ Interests: James has a couple of hobbies which are again, believe it or not, pretty normal. He mainly reads exercises or plays computer games.
Job or part time job and description: High school
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: James hasn’t got any particular fears, however he always fears losing someone close to him, this is most likely caused by this father’s death.
Special talents: James doesn’t have any particular talents apart from his fast reaction time, gained from hours of Horror games, and his seemingly insane level of positivity.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: James is good, he sticks to the usual human moral guidelines, however in situations which may risk his or his friend’s lives he can quite easily drop all of his moral guidelines and result to drastic measures if required. He thinks killing is wrong and it can never be forgiven, however if it is to save his or a friends life, so be it. He can live with the guilt as long as he and his friends can go on living.
Mutations
Mutation description: James has the power to change his body to iron or steel as long as he is currently touching it, this could allow him to have the physical durability of steel when under heavy pounding or increased weight / strength needed for some tasks like lifting heavy loads or breaking things. His mutation does not actually increase his strength but due to the fact that he is made from a tougher material lifting something would put less strain on his body, say for example he was trying lift a heavy box, a normal human back would have a lot of strain on it due to the fact it is made from flesh and bone however James would find it easier because his body is made from a stronger material when changed. The difference is nothing incredible; in fact it’s not really an increase in strength but rather a side effect of increased constitution offered by iron and steel. His strength when applying force is not necessarily changed but the harder material and increased weight makes it more destructive. The change takes time and a small amount of the material must be available. So a single lump will not be enough to change the whole body just an arm, also there is a risk that once changed he will not be able to change back to normal skin. If he wants to revert he must make physical skin to skin contact with someone to copy the structure of human skin.
To change an arm or a leg he would need about 1lb of iron and steel. For his upper body (chest, arms, and neck) he would need about 5lb of iron and steel. To change his entire body he would need 15lb of iron and steel.
This does not “use up” the material but as the mutation is used with the hands it needs a larger amount to “climb” further up his body with his hands as a starting point. This means he can have 1lb of steel, grip it in his right hand which would transform it up to the shoulder and then pass it to the left for the same effect but it will only reach his shoulder on that arm as well. For it to go any further he would need a greater amount of the material.
Strengths:
• It can help him in many ways like offer protection which normal flesh would not. When he is made of iron or steel, His body would be able to withstand everything normal iron or steel could. Things like knives or punches wouldn’t hurt him, although they might sting a little. Also low calibre bullets wouldn’t do much to him, they would sting an awful lot and bruise him later, abut apart from that they would be ineffective.
• When he is changed iron or steel his weight would allow him to perform certain brute force tasks easier, say for example breaking down a door.
Weaknesses and Limitations:
• The task of changing his body can be draining; he may only be able to change about 4 times a day before becoming fatigued; however this limit will increase with practise.
• After changing his skin to another material, he will need to touch another person’s skin allow him to change back to his regular epidermis. But if he did not go through a full body change, say for example he only changed his arms. He could put his palms on his chest and change back his arms that way.
• The mutation is largely tied in with his emotions, if he is in danger and is also touching an iron or steel surface he will subconsciously make the connection and change as much of his body as possible. For example the watch he wears on his right arm is usually making contact with his skin, if he is threatened his arm would change instinctively.
• A full body change would take about 20 seconds and during this time he is vulnerable to any form of assault. It would take about 4 seconds for his arms and legs or 10 seconds for his entire upper body.
• When his body is transformed into iron or steel he is too heavy to float so he cannot swim or jump any higher than half his average jumping height (40cm).
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Considering his athletic build and high level of fitness James can run for a long period of time and is used to putting in large amounts of physical effort. He is reasonably strong, maybe slightly more so than the average teenager. His reaction time is higher than average however he has the disadvantage of being inexperienced in dangerous situations. James also has a pretty normal pain tolerance; however he finds it easy to push through pain, considering all the effort he’s put into painfully long runs.
Fighting Style: James has no particular fighting style and he has no reason to have one either. He has never really been in any dangerous fights or battle royals. He’s had the odd scrap or two, sure. But nothing major. When James does fight however, he uses swift fast punches and kicks which aim for soft spots like the stomach and nose to end fights quickly.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: James’s inexperience in combat shows in the fact that his footing is clumsy and his punches are often misjudged. He doesn’t feel comfortable fighting hand to hand. He has however in the past tried Kobudo which he showed a short affinity for before deciding it wasn’t for him.
History Of Your Character
James grew up in Nottingham, West Bridgford with his mother Lilly. His father had died when he was young and his mother had had many boyfriends but never re-married. James and his mother lived in reasonable comfort and his mother, who was an interior designer, was reasonably well off.
He went to a normal, boring secondary school and lived out his uneventful and boring life. He only made his first friend at 13, but even then, they weren’t real friends. James spent most days going to school, going to the gym, playing computer games and sleeping.
When James was at the age of fourteen his mother had a particularly stormy break up with one of her boyfriends. She got so upset that she decided they needed to leave and go to another country. James was fine with that, he had no strong connections to his hometown and he was feeling, as ever, positive about the possibilities moving to a new country would bring.
Naturally his mother chose America, New York where on the 10th of May 2011 they got on a plane and moved there. At first it was fine; his mother got another job as an interior designer and they lived in a two bedroomed house which was considerably smaller that their last one.
The worst thing about this new house were the lights, the lights in the house would always go out every week. James spent more nights than he could remember, clutching onto hurting limbs and stubbed toes. The lack of light in the house meant he was always tripping and hurting himself. James’s uneventful life was so unbelievably uneventful that, he has come to believe, all the little events that could have happened but didn’t all moulded together to make one big event which would change his life forever.
On James’s 16th birthday or birth night the light bulb in his room had blown, shrouding him in the darkness that always brought promises of sprained ankles and stubbed toes.
He had climbed out of his bed, in nothing but boxers, to go to the toilet. For some reason he thought he was back in his old house. Because of this he ended up taking a wrong turn and stumbling onto the staircase. He only just realised in time to catch the iron banister to stay upright but his legs had already fallen under him.
James felt a strange sensation in his arm as he lost his grip and tumbled, head over heels down the stairs. He knew that falling down stairs could cause serious injury and was surprised to find he felt little pain as his back, neck and head took a thrashing.
He also noted in the back of his head that there was an odd metallic clanking noise as he fell. When he finally reached the bottom he got up, abashed as he looked down at his skin, which was an odd metallic grey colour.
Worried, James moved towards the light switch and realised as he moved that his body felt heavier than usual, not uncomfortably so but there was a definite difference.
When the light was on, all was revealed. His skin was a dull shiny grey, the same colour as the bannister. James had no Idea how to react. What had happened? How was this possible?
His heart began to beat loudly and quickly as fear crawled up his spine. The fear overwhelmed him and he blacked out unceremoniously in a large metallic heap with a comedic “clunk”.
James must have woken up his mum, because he came round an hour or so later sitting in the corner of the living room. With his mum on the other side, staring at him. The stare she had for him was not one that a mother should ever use on her son; it was vacant, unrecognising and hostile.
What happened next was a blur, it seemed unreal and the memory is still hazy, maybe from the after effects of blacking out. He remembered the police coming, asking questions, not in a harsh way, more in a sympathetic way.
But they could not reach him; his mind was replaying that one moment of realisation. James was no fool and even in his shaken state he knew there was only one kind of person who could do that; a mutant.
James knew plenty about mutants; they were on the news all the time, sometimes for good things, sometimes for bad things. He had formulated his own opinion on mutants pretty much straight away and didn’t believe that being a mutant made you inherently evil. After all some humans were evil and some were good, why should mutants be any different?
James also put together the pieces; he had no future with his mother now. He was sure of that, she openly expressed a hatred for the “un-natural mutants” and how they should all be “put in some special camp where they can do no harm to good, law abiding normal people” like her.
He had seen the look his mother had given him, he knew. No matter how much he wanted to believe otherwise that his mother would kick him out and have nothing to do with him again. It surprised James, really, he was thinking pessimistically. It seemed that his positivity could be broken but then again, there was no good in this situation.
James had been right of course, in the months that followed his mother was distant and she didn’t talk to him. During these months James still managed to keep a positive outlook on what life he had and he had even gained a decent level of control over his mutation.
On the month of March 2013, while he was reading on his bed sitting in the full glow of the sun, his mother knocked at his door. He had let her in and she had sat on the edge of the bed, distant as ever. She still wouldn’t look at him or give him decent answers to his questions but he knew she had an agenda in this visit. She hadn’t come into his room since that night and now that she had, she seemed to soften up a bit.
She spoke to him for a while, slowly at first but with one word answers but after about ten minutes she was speaking properly. The reason she had come in was to tell him some news, she had found a place, a new school for “people like you” and James would be sent there. Sometime in the future.
It was not quite what he has expected; James knew she was going to disown him at some point but this was better than he could have hoped for, naturally he had been optimistic about being kicked out. The way he saw it, she could do worse than kick him out but she obviously still felt something for her son, a mutant.
She left James’s bedroom pretty much straight after telling him. That was fine with him. He could lie down in the sun, practise his mutation and daydream about going to a school full of people like him. He might even make some friends, which would be nice.

Sample RP: James lay on his bed, looking up at the ceiling. His arm was out in front of him and he studied it. It felt warm and didn’t look any different to the average person’s arm, which was the part he didn’t understand. It was normal, completely normal and yet he could turn it into something inhuman, in every sense of the word.
He sat up and walked over the window, pulled it open and put his arm through to lay his hand on the metal light fixture under his bedroom window. Willing his mutation to take effect he watched in fascination as the metal seemed almost to climb up his arm and gobble it up. When it reached his shoulder after about two seconds he pulled his hand away and studied it. It was still the same shape and size, only it felt heavier. If he rubbed his fingers together it would make the horrible noise of coins grinding together. It was completely smooth and still had all the lumps and bumps one would expect on normal skin.
He had also tried out its strength; it could withstand a light strike from a nail hammer without the slightest change; He also felt little to no pain from it either.
After studying it some more he closed the window and brought it to his bare chest, hand splayed he wished it to turn back to skin. Again he waited for a couple of seconds as it retreated backwards, being pushed away by the skin which now had his favour. As the metal retreated he could feel his arms sense of touch returning back to normal.
James returned to his bed and snuggled under the covers to think about what life with other mutants would be like. Would he fit in? He doubted it. But at least there would be some common ground to use for making friends and starting conversation.
The main worry of James’s was the rioters. He was pretty sure they would leave him alone.
Nothing to worry about, he thought to himself. What would they want with me?
After a couple of hours he started to nod off. His last thought as he drifted off, was that maybe, if he tried his best. This could be the best thing that has ever happened to him.
