The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Evelyn wasn’t sure where this adult came from, but she was pretty sure he was the coolest person ever. Her eyes lit up when he mentioned he liked going into the danger room, and she almost dropped a book when he said he liked explosives. ”Oh, I’m not a fan of being next to them when they go off. My echoes get a bit, what’s a good word for it? Scrambled. You know how loud noises make your ears all ringy? It’s like that, but with like, your thoughts.” she only had it happen once since she returned to this age but that was plenty. Anything that made her powers angry was bound to cause a headache.
”We can really go in there? That would be so much fun! It’s it really like a big computer? Does it feel real? Will the echoes think it’s real? Do I have to use a weapon? I feel a bit partial to sai personally.” the last phrase slipped out and she wondered where that knowledge came from. She didn’t fight it though. It was evident that was her choice in defense and even in this life, some things remained.
Evelyn agreed to be safe and they made their way to the Danger Room before he could change his mind. Evelyn waiting while their books were put away first, and could barely contain her excitement when they finally reached the metal doors. True to his word, the system remembered Sam, and it even remembered some of Evelyn’s old training programs. She was less lucky on that front though, because someone (she blamed Mirror) had already locked her out of them as of expecting the seven year old to make it this far.
”I did use Sai!” she exclaimed excitedly, pointing to the blocked program. It was only target practice, what harm did they think she would really do? ”What do you normally practice when you’re in here?” she wondered, trying to look over his shoulder. While she used a lot of big words when she talked, moments like this pointed out she was still a kid, prone to being entertained even by something as simple as another mutant training with their powers.

Evelyn continued watching, making mental notes as they continued. So there was zero resistance leaving, but the table still created a little heat so it probably met resistance on contact? Theoretically the air molecules should also have some sort of change. She had no way of measuring that either. The problem with mutations was some of them just completely bypassed “science”. They made their own rules and you had to figure out the restraints as you went. Some things sounded magical but still had a logical element to them.
For instance, powers like telepathy and mind reading. While those powers seemed strange in concept, there were lots of theories that it simply involved the mind being more adapted to hearing and registering brain waves. Her own ability to share memories and echoes involved touch, so there was a more theoretical conduit sending signals from her thoughts to another person. She liked reading studies, even if they relied heavily on abstract thinking.
Best of all, William was not opposed to experimenting more. When she theorized about the ‘sink’ idea, he went with it. In fact, he almost seemed as excited as she was. ”I mean, the logical possibility is the Danger Room, but you need adults to be let in there. The program can probably measure things accurately if you get a chance to be let in. But the chemistry lab had a lot of equipment too. I was in there the other night and I remember seeing an ammeter,. The school has a really well stocked science department.” At least she was technically with an adult when she was in the chemistry lab. That had prevented her from really getting in trouble.
”Do you have time to go now? We can get some books than maybe try measuring your powers more! There aren’t any classes there this hour.” no one needed to ask how she knew. She had plenty of time to work out the school schedules so she had the run of the empty rooms.

Sam came down to her level and covered one eye. She wondered if it was meant as a joke. She didn’t feel like she had the sense of humor to be amused by childish things, but found herself reaching up anyway, and pulling his hand back down. ”Sorry, I think you should avoid the eye patch. Unless you’re a pirate. I’m not sure you’re cool enough to be a pirate.” she crossed her arms and gave him a once over. Was she trying to joke back? They both needed to work on their humor if that was it.
She blinked, shaking his head at him, ”I don’t blame the cat. Who wants to have dirty socks lying around? And the fridge may be full but I’m not really supposed to go near the kitchen anymore. Mirror says I can’t make Molotov cocktails without adult supervision.” she complained.
Wait, adult supervision. She looked at him again, the awkward pirate who kept trying to make jokes and was looking for fantasy novels. She was more certain now they had once been friends, again feeling that desire to look up to him. And not just because he was tall. She felt like he could be a good mentor. ”You wouldn’t happen to like going into the danger room or experimenting with explosives, would you?” sometimes it was better to be blunt. If he said no she could always find other ways to break in.

Evelyn considered his theory. She really wished she had a chemistry book with her or even a phone. So many students could just google what they wanted while she had to rely on a library run to even things out. Then again, none of the other students had the echoes, so she had a leg up there.
"That makes a bit of sense. Eventually electricity wants to go somewhere, right? That's the whole point of power chords and circuits. To give it a path. You're not giving it a path, your just making it find it's own." She commented. It still sought out lines of least resistance, but it made a bit of a mess in the meantime.
William was focusing again, and Evelyn proactively moved the books off the table before anything happened to them. With the stack now sitting on the couch, she was free to watch. Slowly, the current went from arcs to a more solid stream, and it was colorful, pretty even. He was learning quickly, and she grinned with excitement. She hadn't smiled in a long time, and didn't realize anything could be this fun. Apparently, being near potentially dangerous powers was a thrill trip when you were seven.
"Does the electricity feel warm? I mean, that's one way to generate heat, right? You already create light, can you burn things? What else could it do? We should get more books! I mean, if you want to. What if we got thing to test the electricity on? Something has to be better than a table to use as a conductor! I just, this is really cool." There wasn't enough information in her head to answer all her questions. Why had she grabbed for criminology first! Science would have been sooo much more useful right now. Her eyes were wide as she tried to hash out all the incoming thoughts.

The guy tried to joke and it failed in the most spectacular way possible. He didn’t remember having voices in his head, she didn’t remember him. It was like two people trying to casually reference things in a language neither spoke. Sometimes, she felt a twist in her heart almost like the sliver of memory she had forgotten. Even computers found ghost imprints of deleted files, maybe it was the echoes way of trying to hold onto some of the things she lost. She wondered if they had been friends, close enough that losing him would have hurt. Now they were strangers. Somehow this felt even worse than being around Mirror who at least held onto some of the memories from her past.
”Did we, ever know each other?” she asked once he took the book. She squinted at him, trying to force the echoes to say something, but found nothing. Not that she was surprised. They still had no clues to her past years. ”Apparently I lived here before I became 7 again. Even dated a gender shifter who quite frankly is a stick-in-the-mud. But going from 31 to 7 erased...a lot.” she pushed her hair from her face and considered his comment. ”I know enough, but there is still plenty to catch up on. I can’t miss what I don’t remember at least. Sam? I’m Evelyn.” she responded, nodding her head in acknowledgment.
If she remembered their last together she would have felt sad. This was someone she once mourned when she thought he was dead. It was a friend, a college, even like a parental figure from time to time. Maybe that last was gone, but in her small form she still found some sort of peace having him there. Almost like he was still looking out for her.

Evelyn watched with fascination as he went to experiment with his powers. This was so much more interesting than her books and she felt her echoes filing all the notes away for later. It was as much about helping him now as satisfying her own curiosity. The discharge of energy was beginning to increase. Her echoes flickered warnings, as if sensing the many ways this whole situation could go wrong. He couldn't be discharging that much electricity, right? If she got a little static in her hair or even got zapped, she was sure it would be fine. She didn't want to leave yet.
The electric arcs were colorful, and she had the strongest desire to paint them. Thanks to her mind, she could pull this scene up later and try to put it onto paper. It was powerful and mesmerizing at once. "That is probably one of the coolest things I've seen here," she remarked in awe.
Then things took a downhill slide. The arcs went wild, firing toward the floor and furniture, seeking some way to ground themselves. Evelyn rocked up onto her shoes, brain temporarily bombarding her with unneeded advice. Keep path of resistance away from heart, let electricity return to the ground, was there enough insulation in her shoes to protect her? The couch wouldn't be a good conduit anyway so she should be safe but she needed to be a little more cautious next time. He seemed anxious, and Evelyn held up her hands, trying to indicate some type of comfort to him. "It's fine, don't panic! I think it should stop." Then slowly, it did. She felt like her scalp was a little tingly in the wake of all the discharge.
"Okay, so I'm guessing you can create the electricity, but obviously, your body isn't so great at storing it," She straightened up a few of the books that were scattered during the chaos. The echoes were already crunching facts. "I'm thinking, well the echoes...Here, just give me your hand." It was easier to let the voices do the talking this time, than to try to talk over them. She waited until he gave in so he could understand what they were thinking.
[Energy gathering, slow discharge. Greater buildup equates to arches, total emptying of electricity. Solution, electric storage and/or device for redirection, control.]
She stopped them there, drumming her hand on the table next as she considered it.
"This school is full of all those x's and their crazy gear. Someone has to have the brains to store electricity some how. I mean, generators store electricity right? If there is a small version, then you wouldn't have to build a charge all the time. Would that stop you from going all tesla coil on us? As colorful as that was, they do seem to frown when you get too dangerous around kids in this place." Evelyn did not consider herself a child, so she was ignoring the fact they had just experimented together.
The girl considered Evelyn's statements, and slowly, there was a change. The illusion of authority was vanishing and she started to act more her age. Evelyn paused, letting the echoes analyze the change. So, Ms. Cop didn't really want to be a teacher. Heck, it didn't sound like she wanted to be responsible even. Maybe the pressure of realizing what you grew up to be and suddenly falling back in age had gotten to her as well.
Evelyn felt her face soften ever so slightly. "No one said de-aging meant you have to live the same life even. Heck, it's like a second chance. Do I want to be an X this time around? No. Doesn't mean that I didn't try before, but that was a different me. There's this theory, that every choice you make has multiple possible outcomes, and all those outcomes can branch your life into different directions. In my last life, I lived at home until I was an adult. This time, I live her. The branches my life takes now are different. I'm a different me than I used to be." She moved over to one of the tables and started carefully arranging chemicals. Now that they were having a normal conversation, she seemed peaceful. Normal, even.
"I'm only seven. I'm not qualified to give anyone life advice. I guess the only point I have is instead of flashing a badge around because that's what you used to do, why don't you take the chance and try something different? Explore what the other multiverses have to offer? Right now, this one offers explosives."
Finally, she was on bored. Evelyn looked a little hopeful when she offered to google an experiment. "Actually, that could be useful. I don't have a cell phone, or the internet. I have had to scavenge the library for most of my studying and some of those books are a bit outdated. Plus, I don't think the mansion staff is ready to give me chemistry classes." It could be smart, realistically. She had a knack for taking knowledge and running wild with it. It wasn't like her best friend was an activist or anything, bent on arson and vandalism to the police force.
"I'm not sure we have all the materials for Fireworks. I used what I found for Molotovs but those don't involve the effort to pick colors and time explosives for specific reactions. Most of the chemistry cabinet is for teaching different principals."

He was envious? That was a first. Evelyn was used to people telling her that the echoes were annoying, or the playbacks sucked, but never that they were envious. As he sat down, she looked at him more, noting the struggle with his powers.
"What have you learned about it so far? Other than it just being an electric thing. Most powers have some underlying science to it, and part of learning to control them is just working through that."
She crossed her legs so she was facing him on the couch, letting the echoes study his appearance for the moment. She talked while she let the echoes work. "For instance, my powers. When I sleep, I relive memories. I just get dropped into whatever day in my life my brain feels like and follow it through. But I've been reading about computers more, and some of how my brain works reminds me of those. Like, when you want more space on a computer, you can run a defragmentor, and the computer tries to rearrange information to make more room. At night, my brain has to make room for all the incoming memories and knowledge, so it sets me in a corner with one thought to hold onto, and works out the rest."
She watched his body language, the effort involved to do something. The echoes were poised, like a cat ready to pounce. [Concentration, effort. Light glow. Electricity based. Discharge. Electrical discharge. Corona discharge.]
She felt like her brain was opening and slamming different books she had read to find the right page. Her brow furrowed and she put a palm up and pressed the ridge on her nose as she focused. "You're...glowing. Maybe the issue is you're own expectations on how the power functions? Maybe it isn't that you just snap and electrocute things, but your body has it's own way of forming electricity? I don't think I read all the way through that book the other day. If we go back to the library, maybe I can find it." She shut her eyes, trying to think of a good analogy.
"Okay, say there is a sink. and your ability is to put water in the sink. Sometimes you have soooo much of it, you can splash, it spills over, water everywhere. But if you haven't filled up the sink with water, it's going to be like you can't do anything? The sink is dry?" This conversation felt heavy, but when she opened her eyes again, she was in a very good mood. She loved conversations like this. Trying to crunch through a problem, sifting through facts, make sense of things. This was fun to her.
Evelyn was very certain she was being watched now. The girl's eyes tracked Evelyn's hands while her voice tried to act casual. That was a combination of typical cop move and just general adult behavior. To other kids, it may come across as subtle, but Evelyn knew these tricks. Heck, she was certain in another life she used these tricks. Had she been the type of adult to call a kid out if they were sneaking around at night? She hoped she hadn't been. If she had been a stickler for rules Evelyn would never forgive future her. It was bad enough she even lived in this type of mansion. If she had been a teacher that was even worse.
"I'm not sure what I want to be right now," Evelyn commented. She considered the chemicals calmly. "I mean, there are lots of professions, and being a detective would probably be boring anyway. I hear there is a lot of paperwork. I can see myself wanting to do that much writing." Reading was one thing, writing was another. She drew but didn't generally write for fun.
"You...actually would want to be a teacher?" Evelyn paused, looking bewildered by the possibility. "In a school full of mutants? You wouldn't survive five minutes. Kids around here like, spontaneously sprout gills. Or sweat opals. Or like, blow things up for fun. You seem like you would be one of those student teachers to quit the first time someone called you names." she snorted rudely. She spun the chemical bottle in her hand and held it up.
"Copper sulfate. Can't be too dangerous for me to have right? I mean, they use it in kids chemistry sets to grow those silly little crystals." She unscrewed the lid, still judging the woman's reactions. How far would she let this kid go before she actually set off some chemicals?

The guy gave a joke about a princess. Evelyn blinked slowly, but did not laugh. Her brain saved her with a small memory of the Drisney character he was making a reference to, and she nodded slowly. "Ah, I don't think princesses would read the books I'm interested in. Those airheads spend too much time waiting for someone to go rescue them. I prefer to handle things on my own."
She walked over to one of the bookshelves and started pulling out her chosen volumes for the night. One of them happened to be a rather thick chemistry textbook, the other looked like some basic Biology foundations. They would be dry reading, but maybe that would help her sleep in the end.
"I don't read a lot of fiction, frankly. I don't forget things, so if I pick up a book and it sucks, then I am going to be stuck rereading that book for the rest of my life. Its bad enough living here with all these kids. In the future I will still be able to perfectly recite every word to children's theme songs. That is knowledge no one needs," she complained. She said the word kids like an insult, completely disregarding the fact she was seven herself. In her mind, she was not a kid. She had long surpassed that mental status. Fun was for toddlers.
"That being said, what you want will probably be this section here. School of magic where three friends have to fight evil wizards. Romance doesn't happen until book 4, bestseller list for several years running," She lifted the first Perry Hotter from the shelf and offered it to him. She paused when she was in reach. "Don't touch my skin. I have given one or two people an earful of echoes recently and I think the disclaimer makes this whole interaction less troublesome. You look like someone who doesn't need voices in his head too." She sighed.

Evelyn had been studying a lot recently. Given that she avoided sleeping whenever possible, she had more hours in the day to read things. She finished what the mansion had to offer on criminology, and she was ready to start her way through the science section next. It was late so she felt it would be a good time to gather a book or two for the night, but this time she noticed someone else was in the room.
Evelyn paused behind the man, watching as he scanned titles. Something about this new arrival felt off though. Most of the strangers that she saw were very clearly unfamiliar to her. Even Mirror had been unknown when she first ran into them. But his figure and stance felt similar to other staff she had seen from afar at least once. Now, it didn't match up though. She squinted, eyes turning silver as she tried to work through the memories. The confusion. Was this a shifting mutant? Had they looked different last time? She would have to figure it out, which meant she would tolerate social interaction.
"Is there anything you're looking for? I can tell you if we have it." Evelyn spoke up. She didn't offer help much, but she did know every book title they had by heart now. She had a mental checklist she was going through, on a mission to devour as much literature as she could. Plus, having a perfect memory gave her lots of storage space. She wanted to fill that storage with useful things, unlike the other kids who watched endless television episodes. That was not for her.

Evelyn tried to imagine waking up next to a car and not knowing where she was. While she was mature for a seven year old, that idea still scared her a little. She was relieved she had time to process this at her own pace. She almost felt bad for him, but still struggled with those types of feelings.
”I knew I was a mutant but the skin contact thing is new,” she gestured toward his hand as a commentary to what happened. ”It’s like, letting someone tune into the same radio station. But with voices. Oh, and the playbacks. Those are basically any of my memories. If I focus, I can relive memories. It’s complicated. Like I said, there is a lot happening in my head.” she had to keep a detached view of it or she felt a little anxiety herself. It was like she was put in charge of a very powerful car and expected to drive it without damaging anything. She really could use a leg up or two.
Hisbinterest now was genuine, which put her in a good mood. Her face lit up more and her eyes had a softer blue color now. ”They’re always there. I learn to ignore them when they aren’t useful. It’s like having music playing in a room all the time and you only focus when your favorite song comes on. They get a little wordy. Sometimes they count things for no reason. For instance, there were 47 books on criminology in that section of the library. I didn’t ask to know that, but now I do.” some day, her powers would probably drive her crazy. She was resigned to this fact.
”They are wrong all the time. The echoes are just observations. They take note of what’s around me and focus on context to deduce meaning. Like, based on someone’s body language I can tell they are uncomfortable, but I may assume it’s because of something I said, or maybe they have a rock in their shoe. Maybe they just had a headache. I can look for other clues like if they seem to be favoring a leg, or have tension in their face, but nothing is a concrete truth. Just like any detective or psychology major I have to make the most logical conclusions with what I’ve been given.”
This was her world: fact, analysis. Deconstruct, rebuild. She took apart things around her and tried to make sense of it. It was a very mechanical action for someone so young.

[Confusion, lack of recognition, contemplating. Electronic reader. Possibly unfamiliar with new technology.] Was he raised somewhere rural? He didn’t talk that way. Evelyn knew the Atlantians here were a little less familiar with some things but he lacked that sort of obvious mutation. The other possibility came clear when he spoke next.
Did she remember? [Hopeful.] Oh, he was like her then. Although he seemed to have jumped to an older body, missing years but not so many as her. Yet still enough an e-reader became news. ”No one remembers, unfortunately. You and I aren’t the first. I woke up in my apartment so I was able to put things together. Public records helped too. But my mutation prevents me from forgetting and even I started from scratch. It’s probably better though. I have too much in my head as it is.”
He had that look she was accustomed to, almost like she was a talking animal. She missed Jude and Elke. She wanted to be around people who didn’t mind her emotional disconnection. She wanted to grow up faster.
William offered a name and hand. Evelyn took it before thinking about the information overload that would mean. [Distraction, confusion.] Whoops! He would have heard that too. ”Sorry! I’m Evelyn. I kinda have voices, in my head. I call them echoes.” she explained.

Evelyn felt her stack lighten, and now she could actually see over the top. She looked up at the boy holding several books, and finally caved in. ”Thanks. I need to invest in an e-reader one day, that would make this much easier.” she sighed, starting toward a nearby den area. She hoped there wouldn’t be a ton of kids running around today to distract the echoes.
”I suppose you’re correct. Once I make my way through these I’ll have to get someone to take me to the public library for further research. But it’s best to start with foundation pieces and work up.” she commented. She let the echoes direct her into a room and slid the stack onto the table.
”I don’t think I looked into this line of study my last adulthood, so I felt it could be a good change. I focused on art history if I understand correctly? Frankly, I have been quite confused by my actions back then.”
Now that her hands were free she was able to really look at the teen. ”You’re new. They have you taking classes already?” she had a matter of fact way of talking. She never forgot faces, so she had easily taken interest when someone different appeared. Anything different in this building caught her eye. It broke the constant wave of repetition she was stuck in. Some days, she really hated her powers.

Evelyn finally balanced her stack of books and her silver eyes looked up at the boy next to her. He seemed like a teenager, but these days, she found it hard to really assume anything. Heck, her own ID still said she was 31, and she was not going to change that anytime soon. It was her only defense against child labor laws and keeping her out of the restricted sections of libraries. No one could fight her if she said she just looked seven with all the strange mutants around. Although, some tried... she really wished she would grow faster.
