The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Evelyn had never quite experienced the rush of doing something she shouldn't have. But the buzz she was currently under was making her wonder why she behaved so much before. Maya's kiss made her shoulder tingle slightly, and her echoes flickered, stopped, and tried returning, jumbling up the labels of the bottles with their dwindling ability to read. Just because they were making less sense didn't mean they were really shutting up though.
"My parents are posh... I think they'd argue I fell a little far from the tree though." The glamorous house always felt like a dungeon to her. She had been glad to move out, but even now the memories were ever crisp in her mind. She grinned as she took the glass, and took a light sip. It was much better than what she had at the wedding, that was for sure. Maybe the echoes would like it better and stop being so obnoxious.
[Newspaper, dinning room table. Double folded, creased so edges perfectly align. Sign of order. Perfectionist tendencies. Bottles arranged by price and brand. House clean, impeccable. Controlling. Concerned over appearances.] Yeah well, she knew all that already. She took another drink, and glanced around the apartment more. There was a stack of mail on a table close by, and the echoes couldn't quite make out what they said. Without realizing what she was doing she drifted closer, and the echoes started scanning the visible writing.

Fact: Echoes liked facts. They liked knowing the hows and what's of things that were going on, calculating, and making sense of things.
Fact: Echoes did not like mirror traveling. The distorted views were hard to make sense of, and they couldn't quite grasp the 'hows' of walking through things.
Fact: Drunk echoes REALLY didn't like mirror traveling. Drunk echoes were still trying to count sequins on dresses and figure out if they got the right cookies with the appropriate amount of chocolate chips. By the time Evelyn's feet hit carpet, she wasn't even sure the echoes could think in numbers.
Fact: Her echoes were about ready to surrender and leave her drunk butt in the middle of the living room with nothing but her inhibited brain to guide her. But she had a grin on her face as she looked around the polished house, and snorted under her breathe.
"Oh look, the polished castle, the dragon must be sleeping anywhere. Treasure trove is that way." She pointed a thumb down the hallway and navigated with her still in tact perfect memory. Her steps were only sort of unsteady at this point. Her brain was swimming, but her balance was functioning remarkably well. The cabinet was some fancy type of wood [Ebony], polished and decorated with a number [52] of top shelf adult beverage choices. She wasn't sure what they did with so many at home, considering they probably tried a number of high class wines at restaurants, but maybe it was for the guests. Well, they were guests. May as well help themselves.
"Anything strike your fancy?" She mused, glancing at Mirror, then momentarily getting distracted as the echoes fluttered around the room, pointing out things that changed. There were no family photos, no evidence they had ever had a daughter. Not that that was really anything new... her parents were never the sentimental type.

>>"I might or might not have called her a nazi..."
Evelyn raised an eyebrow in mock horror, then laughed and grinned back at the mirrorwalker. "The scandal! I might or might not be proud of you then..."[/color]
She'd probably feel a bit more concerned about it later, but right now she was still enjoying the moment. Like when Jensen left, there was a burst of freedom that came before the settling feeling of concern now that she was on her own.
>>"You know, you might not have known it before, but i can walk through reflective surfaces..."
Evelyn put on her best surprised face, and shook her head. They were almost to the car, and she jabbed Mirror lightly in the side. "I'm telling you, there might be some prime beverages worth liberating in that cabinet of theirs... And who said I needed to drink more? We could stage a rescue mission and you can always have a sip if you want. I've got an apartment to stash it at so kids don't get into it too." She added in a small moment of clearer thinking. The echoes were getting a little quieter, although their information wasn't very useful.
"Did you know there are 17 blue cars at this party..." She mused, momentarily distracted from her plan to seek revenge on her parents.

Evelyn felt a laugh drift out of her mouth and she smirked at Maya, eyes twinkling slightly. "With my mother? I think she was looking for an excuse to disown me... Although now I'm curious what you told her... I hope you took her ego and shoved up up her--" The echoes jumped over towards the trees again. The squirrels had stolen one of the guests wallets. She wished she could applaud it.
"And I can walk ok. Just feel like my powers are on overdrive...I really have never drank anything more than a sip of wine before, I wouldn't know what good drinks taste like... Although, I bet my parents have some decent stuff stashed in their cabinet... If you really felt like getting back at them we could totally hijack it...." She felt herself saying, glancing at the mirrorwalker with a somewhat rebellious look on her face. They had probably caused enough trouble for one day...
...The images of her mother's expression replayed in her mind, and the idea looked more appealing.

Evelyn flashed Maya a reassuring smile, trying to ignore the momentary churning feeling from her gut at her mother's response. She knew things couldn't last forever how they were, but she had always hoped eventually her parents would come around. It was clear, at least from her mother's point of view, however, that there was no way they would see 'eye to eye' about her mutation. Evelyn was learning to accept who she was. Unfortunately, she didn't know if they ever really would.
Slipping her hand into Maya's she gave it a squeeze and shrugged her shoulder. "It's been a long time coming. They've never approved of my mutation, and I'm done ignoring it for them. The echoes are glad you stood up for me though." She smiled slightly, and snatched a few cookies off the table. "Can't read lips but I could sure tell what she thought of what you said." The echoes buzzed with activity and she glanced back at the party, teetering ever so slightly as she did. Too fast... The alcohol was defiantly settling in now. She was getting advice on which cookies had the most chocolate chips.
"Also...I don't think my echoes should drink. Unless I really want to know the calculated cookie capacity of my purse, or how many blue shoes are at a party....Or how many squirrels there are...." So much information....It made her thoughts feel slightly sluggish on top of that.

Evelyn couldn't read lips, but there were times she really wished she could. As the ceremony started and the two figures faced off, she tried her best to point the echoes that direction. But they were impossible. She now had inventory of every shoe color at the wedding, dress designs, cost estimates. She was pretty sure the echoes were trying to count how many chairs there were, which was hard because she was so focused on Maya and her mother. Whatever was happening wasn't good, but their body language said a lot. Hostility, anger... She started to move to walk over when the tide shifted though. Mrs. Summers nails clenched into the palms of her head, the color vanished from her face, and that angry poise evaporated.
The bride and groom met at the podium and the preacher started his speech. The echoes tried counting sequins on the bride's dress. She pivoted again to watch behind her. Her drink was empty. It was probably a good thing. Gradually the echoes smothering amount of information was getting a somewhat murky sound.
[Rage. Disgust. Irritation. Humiliation.] Her mother's eyes fixed on the silver haired mutant and Evelyn decided it was time to step in. She slipped from her seat, the crowd focused back on the ceremony and no one bothering to look back at their confrontation. She hoped she was walking steady. It would really ruin things to fall on her face when she was trying to look tough.
"Is there a problem here?" She said icily as she approached, looking at her mother. She set her empty cup on the table and crossed her arms across her chest, stopping next to Mirror. The older woman glared darkly.
"There is. You two. I tried my best with you Evelyn, I did. I tried to keep you involved, salvage what social standing I could, but you're just determined to throw it all away. You could have got away with it. But you had to insist on being one of them. You were normal enough, when you just kept your mouth shut."[/color] She glared from one girl to the other. She wasn't standing down, or leaving back towards the ceremony. For someone as focused on keeping up appearances as she was, Mrs. Summers was neglecting the wedding and her friends. She was focused on the problem in front of her. And she seemed determined to get rid of it.
"Well I have no intention to keep my mouth shut." She said sternly, raising her chin a notch higher. The words didn't sting like they might have before. She could feel the drink in her veins giving her courage she might not otherwise have had. The echoes were hard to deal with, but she was suddenly grateful for the choice. Especially at the words that followed.
"Then I have no choice. Let's see how you do without your father and my support. You want to hang around with riff-raff, you might as well be some." With that, she turned and stalked back to the party, and the words buzzed in Evelyn's head. She pushed a hand through her hair and exhaled deeply, trying to keep her hand from shaking.
"Well...Looks like the parties over." She mused aloud.

His shift in demeanor was quickly evident to the echoes, and while Evelyn was still slightly offended by his behavior, she could see that he felt bad about it at least and was trying to be apologetic. It was a start. She pushed her emotions further down, and gave the faintest hint of a smile.
"I've had the nick-name 'Holmes' for longer than I can remember. I think most people assumed I'd try to be a detective or something, so I am sort of used to it. I don't really get sick of it I guess. There are worse things they could think I'd be good at..." She remarked, sketching some more. She stared at the picture a little, waiting for her emotions to settle. Sometimes it felt like memories swirled around in her head for two long, the details sharp enough they cut and bleed emotions in her mind.

After the initial shock of her daughter's statement, Mrs. Summer's had evidently collected herself. Her face was far too calm, but there was something vicious burning behind her eyes. The smile was too sweet, the poise to collected. It was far too unsavory to confront her own daughter in this manner, but perhaps she could at least rid herself of this 'date' she had brought along.
"I think it may be best that you leave." She started as calmly as possible. She glanced towards her daughter, then back to the other mutant in front of her. She didn't bother hiding her expression of distaste. "While there is little I can do to salvage the social handicap having a mutant daughter creates, allowing her to bringing her mutant companions along..." She said the term 'mutant' like Mirror was a stray dog Evelyn had dragged home. The older female paused, and gave an icy smile again.
"I don't expect you to understand such social graces, so I'll make it clear. You're a stain on this event, an ink spot on a clean piece of paper, and your presence is making Evelyn's own deficiencies stand out. We do our best to keep her condition under the radar, and flaunting it as you two seem inclined to do is creating quite the scandal. I don't know what street she plucked you off of, but I don't approve of mutants, especially when they're 'gender-shifters', whatever that means. But I'd like you to go back there, and stay away from my daughter." The woman hissed. Meanwhile, Evelyn had turned in her seat, eyes locking on the two figures.
The echoes were picking up more than she wanted to. And her face showed a small amount of rage at what she was getting. The ceremony was about to start, and she was uncertain whether leaving her spot or not was advisable right now. But she was about done with this.
As the stinging gradually faded from her nose, Evelyn allowed herself to listen to what was being said. Part of her felt a little bit flattered, part of her felt a little challenged by his words. It was almost like he was pointing out she had more potential, but if she did than there was almost an underlying accusation she wasn't trying to reach it. Then again, the echoes weren't reading that... SHE was trying to read that. It was one of the rare moments when she and her powers deviated as they tried to assess a situation. Her own emotions were conflicting with the analytically feedback from her powers.
"I just don't really know how much potential my powers have..." She muttered under her breathe, pushing her hair from her face and trying to focus again. He wasn't going to just let it go, and the echoes started jabbering about his thoughts.
[Romantically interested.] The echoes were blunt, their assessments said with a certainty that was hard to tune out. She steered them back towards his actions and away from his facial expressions, but it was difficult, and she barely sidestepped to avoid his blow towards her side. She swatted at his hand again and stuck out her tongue.
"It's easy to identify a truth when it's among counterfeits, but the situation we face is something different. The information presented is all intended to be useful in it's own way. It's keying in on what's important to me now." Therein lied the problem. Part of her was curious what he was thinking, and curiosity put her in dangerous situations before. She had to push aside her curiosity this time.

Evelyn was not thrilled by the idea of this group training session. It was one thing making herself look dumb in front of Mirror. It was another doing it in front of other students. But she needed more training, and it was a good opportunity, so grumbling aside, she unhappily made her way outside where they were meeting, and stopped just a short way off.
She couldn't do this.
It was ridiculous.
She recognized the two 'students' working already. She wasn't sure which one she had the worst conversation with, to be honest. Mr. 'Doesn't-like-mutants-but-is-one' or Mr.'self-esteem-problems'. That was probably being a bit harsh on them, but she pushed it aside as she watched two more girls joining the group. At least she wouldn't be stuck with just the guys... She couldn't quite get herself to take the last few steps forward though.

As Evelyn walked towards the seating area, she started to feel the first little signs that her drink choice was kicking in. While she had hoped the echoes would get a bit fainter, or fuzzier, they seemed to be doing the opposite. Sharp whispers from up ahead were noted, body language was taken into account. The disapproval around her was very clear, and it made her stomach churn more. She felt exposed suddenly without Maya by her side. But she kept her chin up and kept walking, taking one of the seats at the very back of the group.
[Something in wrong...] Warned the echoes, and they forced Evelyn to glance back. Someone was talking to Maya. Her mind buzzed with activity as she tried not to go back for her. She clenched her drink in her hand, trying to turn and focus towards the front stage. The echoes were everywhere though. [Squirrel, tree, 40 feet away. Estimated number of individuals wearing the color blue: 15. Estimated number of people wearing heels: 92. Average hair color of females with blue dresses and heels--] She took another sip of her drink. Maybe the echoes just weren't drunk enough....
Evelyn listened to him speak, and let herself lean against the counter, one arm crossed lightly across the chest. The nice thing about the echoes is that they were always learning. A wrong guess wasn't always a bad thing. In many ways, they still taught you something about your subject. When she was wrong, she could see the slight twinkle of victory in his eyes, and when she flushed, she could see the devilish gleam. In many ways, watching someone work their way into a position they felt was the upper hand in a conversation left them flashing their cards. She waited, listened, but she was smart enough to keep much of it to herself. She had a bit of pride to her, but not quite the same way as David did. Her victories were in knowledge. Everything was a bigger picture.
"You seem to disagree with society, but you are a fashionable enough fellow. You have a great deal of vanity. Aren't you falling prey to societies ideals if you maintain a level of self-absorption?"She mused aloud, sipping her drink. He was well mannered, cultured, but he seemed to have a big head from her point of view. Their questions were drifting towards a more direct conversation again, and Jensen was still distracted by the car. She didn't figure he would care much about the conversation though. Whether or not someone had an ego would probably bore him.

The compliment brought color to Evelyn's cheeks, but she smiled, heart racing as Maya's lips met hers. She had to admit, that certainly didn't get old, and it was just an added bonus this time the kissing had two purposes. One, it felt pretty nice, and at the same time it did have the result of making people uncomfortable. She wondered if a few people were resisting going towards the food right now. She almost smuggly hoped they were.
After kissing the mirror-walker back, she pulled away enough to glance sideways. If the looks people gave could kill, her mother would be committing murder. "I think you look pretty good yourself. You start dressing up I'll have competition." She chuckled. She smirked and gave Maya one more kiss then took another drink. People were starting to migrate closer to the seating area, and she figured they didn't have much longer before the ceremony.

Food. Food was certainly a good option. She smiled and accepted a bite of the cookie, turning the drink over in her hand and taking another drink. Cookies and alcohol had a strange taste when mixed together, but it wasn't awful at least
[Disapproving.] Came the echo from her mother's direction. Evelyn smirked slightly.
"I don't think the echoes are picking up quite enough irritation yet. But they're getting there. You should grab a few more of those cookies. If we have to sneak out in a rush we should definitely have extras." Evelyn said with all the seriousness she could muster. Which wasn't much when a smile kept crossing her face.
The echoes flickered around the gathering of people. She figured she was just being a little overinterested in what everyone was doing, but they seemed to be a little harder to direct than normal.

Evelyn was fairly certain the echoes were picking up on more feedback than normal today. Her emotions were on edge, and subconsciously she kept honing in on the behavior of the people around her. It was amusing on the one hand to make people irritated or squirm, but on the other hand, she felt a little offended by it. Who cares who she was with, or what she did, or what her powers were? These social events were impossible...
When the waitress brought back the drinks she tipped the girl and took Maya's advice, letting herself take a swing as the sweet liquid moved down her throat, living a faint bitter aftertaste of liquor.
>>So what's next?
"Well they'll conduct their "I do"s, unless this is one of those shindigs where we get some of the fun "I don't"s, then they open their presents everyone parties and we can sneak out of here with food. I think we got about ten minutes before the ceremony starts..." The echoes flickered back towards her parents, then to Maya. She smiled, and gave a smirk. "So what else do you think would piss my parents off, since we're already off to such a good start?"
