The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

I'd like to nominate Mirror for mutant of the month. Mirror has been a ton of fun to thread with, and always a treat to read, and the ridiculous fun that comes along with this mirror-walking, gender shifting mutant is great. When crazy things aren't happening (like getting stuck in a dating scenario when you're supposed to be training, or doing things as an xmen), there is still plenty of drama like stopping people from taking over the world (or just ending riots).

Somehow, Mirror understood what Evelyn was saying. It was some small miracle in her eyes, and she settled back into the chair while Gawain went back to the fridge. She pulled her knees up and rested her chin on them, wondering what time it was in a delayed thought. After midnight at least... It still seemed like it must be early for no one else to be up and about.
"If it doesn't taste great I'll live..." She replied quietly. Anything seemed better than dealing with the full force of the echoes at this point. The headache seemed like it was growing ever so slowly, and she hoped nausea wouldn't be close behind it. Getting sick to her stomach would totally ruin her memories of the day before...
...memories....
Her eyes got a little wider, and she rubbed her forehead more. "I must've done a number to my brain... Yesterday still feels fuzzy..." She remarked slowly.

Evelyn was somewhat relieved when Gawain made her sit. Although the hug had been nice too... She looked up and tried to focus on what he was saying. Little by little she pushed past the echoes clamoring and rubbed her forehead. "The echoes are being insistent. I guess I just was letting them be bossy... Coconut water is supposed to help with a hangover..."
The room stopped feeling quite so spiny as she concentrated, and she felt a little bit more aware of what was happening. It helped that she was waking up enough she wasn't dealing with the fuzziness of the playbacks as well.
>>"Do you have a headache?"
"Kinda... mostly just a kind of mental pressure from the echoes though. It's hard to think when they're thinking so much. If that makes any sense at all." She was fairly certain she made no sense. She was still thinking occasionally about a coconut. This was ridiculous.
The statement drifted through Evelyn's foggy mind, and she looked up, still somewhat disoriented about where she was. It took her a moment to register Gawain, then the question replayed in her head softly underneath the echoes chiming.
"A coconut..." She responded slowly, rubbing her forehead and trying to make sense of things. It was hard to sit still though. The echoes were still insistently trying to locate the exotic item. If a headache hadn't been forming before, it certainly was going to start now. She glanced back at the shelf she had been digging through, mentally 'I told you so'ing the echoes. No coconuts in the Tupperware shelf. It seemed to think there had to be one here somewhere.
"Echoes..." She added lamely, opening the refrigerator again to shut them up for a moment. Seeing no coconut, they started assessing other ways to treat a hangover. Then she found herself looking back in the refrigerator for food. Eating something might help... Although cooking half asleep could have unforeseeable consequences.
Evelyn had slept rather soundly regardless of the events from the day before. At least, at first she had. It was somewhere between late at night and early in the morning when she felt herself wake up, the buzz only mostly drained away. There was still enough in her groggy mind for the echoes normal chiming to have a more influential force.
[Hangover forming. Possible solution: coconut water. Locate: coconut.]
Had she been more awake, with less alcohol still drifting in her system, she would have questioned the idea. But it was less like waking up and more like sleepwalking at this point as she gave into the echoes prodings and drifted towards the door of the room. She didn't even notice Gawain sleeping at the foot of the bed. With their single goal in mind, the echoes drove her down the hallway and to the kitchen.
Not surprisingly, there wasn't a coconut to be found.
Unable to be deterred, Evelyn sleepily rechecked the cupboards, brain trying to process what she was doing while still being somewhat drowned in echoes at the same time.

Evelyn didn't think her powers could ever be that impressive, but she listened and let Forte have his say. She still felt that the echoes were as distracting as they were useful. Sometimes they helped her dodge faster and react better. Sometimes they just embarrassed her.
Like now. His question made her squirm slightly, crossing her own arms across her chest, more as a defensive action than for comfort though. "I...you were...I don't know why you even had an interest in me in the first place." She blurted out in a rush, face gradually gaining more scarlet. She fidgeted and backed up a few steps, eyes darting to the side. "I'm not good with dealing with people, especially when they flirt, and then your thinking things that seem like they might be in that nature and ugh this is stupid."
The echoes were scrambled by her emotions now. It was a good thing he wasn't attacking quite yet or she would get busted in the nose again and that would seriously damper the conversation. She had a feeling he was amused by this though. She was somewhat irked at him for being so amused by her flustered nature.

>>"Ask me again tomorrow."
Mouth still tingling with the kiss, she smiled at Maya, and decided the answer was good enough. Curling up with her pillow she tried to get some sleep.
[Playing cards. Dresser drawer.]
She honestly hoped the playbacks wouldn't take a cue from the echoes... otherwise it would be a very long night.

Evelyn hoped that eventually her echoes would adjust to Seyta's powers, but the more they talked, the more her brain seemed to hurt. It was a...strange, sensation. Having a headache was one thing, but this felt like a physical pressure in her thoughts, in her head, making it hard to think and act. It was a challenge, but she tried to keep her expression straight and keep talking.
>>"Are you a violin fan?"
"A bit. I love visual art but music has it's own beautiful quality to it that I appreciate. Your violin is wonderful though. It's got such a strong sound even down here in the subway. Do you prefer an arched bridge more or more of the fiddle style where the strings are closer? You can play faster on the fiddle bridges I've heard, but then you'd have to have a bit more control over what you're doing... Sorry, rambling..." Her echoes were honing in on the stringed instrument in a desperate attempt to relieve the tension the girl herself was creating. She wondered what the long term consequences of spending time around Seyta would be. If this were a cartoon she'd probably get a nose bleed...

The tipsy blond forced herself to listen to Maya and the attempts to be reassuring. Being 'happily hung over' sounded not so encouraging though, and she momentarily felt the feeling of regret for drinking so much. Then the images of the day flickered through her mind, and she realized she appreciated the foggy sensation she was feeling. Forgetting might not be such a bad thing right now. Or sleeping.
>>"The echoes still work, right?"
"They work, they're just frickin obnoxious right now. They still think the playing cards are in the drawer....And I keep telling them....I'm talking to myself. Why on earth do you like dating me?" She glanced at Maya, unable to really understand what attraction the mirror-walker felt at this particular moment. She was feeling too exhausted to protest much more though. She flopped over onto her side and pulled her pillow into a hug. "If I don't go sleeping beauty, can I still have a kiss? Because you're kinda fun to make out with." She murmered into the pillow case.

Time traveling.... the echoes tried to process that idea, but they couldn't quite wrap themselves around it. Time traveling in their mind was impossible, and thus should be disregarded. She decided it was better for her not to try to start an argument with them about that.
Apartment deed in hand, Evelyn tried her best to stay on her feet the rest of the trip back to the mansion. She got distracted a few times by the echoes interest in obscure things, but somehow she was back in her own bedroom without serious harm to herself or others. She was relieved to see the now familiar bed, then she picked up what Maya was saying.
>>"It's bedtime for you miss"
"I thought we were going to play cards though!" She blurted out, turning to face the mirror-walker. "Just one round! I can get them real quick. I just....I...." She tried to think of where she put the deck last time she had it. For some reason, the information didn't jump to the surface of her thoughts. Stunned, her expression matching the floored sensation she was feeling, she sank into her bed and starred at Mirror in bewilderment. "Shit...this is what it feels like to forget..." She whispered. How on earth did anyone do anything without a perfect memory? Forgetting sucked....
"Wait, if I am forgetting, what if my playbacks are broken? What if I drank too much and I fall asleep and they don't work and I don't wake up or something dumb. Holy crap I would be like an intoxicated sleeping beauty and that's not romantic at all and would suuucckkk...." She blurted out pressing her hand to her forehead. The echoes were still trying to process where the cards were, and wondering if she put them in the desk with her art supplies.
"No, we got them out the other day when we couldn't sleep. I never put them back in that drawer...." She responded aloud without meaning to.

Evelyn considered the question for a moment, "I don't suppose we can steal my childhood back, can we..." She mused as seriously as she could manage. Then she shook her head, trying to focus through all the drunk voices. She hadn't been in this house for a few years, and she couldn't really think of anything that she should try getting while she was here. Most of her belongings were at the apartment. Except...
"Wait! I know!" Letting go of Maya, she teetered somewhat awkwardly around the corner and into one of the back bedrooms. There was a rather impressive looking floor safe in here, and even drunk she managed to spin in the combination. The door took a little effort to scoot, but inside were a collection of valuables she mostly ignored. Stealing priceless jewelry would be a good way to get herself arrested. But stealing something she already owned....
"Apartment deed!" She declared, holding up the piece of paper. At least they wouldn't be able to take that from her now. She scooted the door shut, let it lock, then took hold of Maya's arm again. It was starting to feel more for stability than just the romantic nature of it at this point. It took all the effort she had to stop the echoes from turning her around to look at how many coins were in the safe. "We don't need to know what year they were..." She muttered at the protesting powers.

Dating a mirror-walker was certainly useful when it came to having an exit strategy. As long as there was a reflective surface, you were good. Well, unless they broke it, but getting out fast enough would be the training part. Although she wasn't sure training was supposed to include crime... As fun as it would be.
Maybe if they just trained and happened to have to use that training because they stumbled into a less than legal activity.... The echoes went back to paying attention to what Maya was saying next.
"Corrupt me? Why, what makes you think you're corrupting me? I'm not sure anyone can do worse than the echoes already do... Nothing is ever really 'right or wrong' with them, since they can relate to anyone's side of the story... Which gets weird... But the drinking, that's totally your fault now. So, proud or ashamed or whatever. Feel it." she smirked, letting her head rest on Maya's shoulder. The more the alcohol settled, the less coherent the echoes seemed to be. Their powers to persuade, however, were increasing. It took all her concentration not to turn back and go look at the mail. The echoes wanted to know....
...she sort of wanted to know....
But Maya's shoulder was also comfortable. The echoes could wait for now.

>>"Remind me to take you to Vegas sometime"
"I wonder how long it would take to get kicked out..." She mused aloud, the echoes trying to calculate how much they could win without alerting security foul play was happening. She wondered if they kept adapteds in casinos now... probably the top end ones... She felt herself getting steered away from the liquor cabinet and stuck her tongue out at Maya again.
"Finnnne we can play cards at the mansion....But, first," She snuck a kiss from Maya with a grin, and pranced backwards a few steps, stealing one of the bottles from the cabinet then returning to the mirror-walker's side. "My one Robin Hood deed for the week. They don't deserve it." She looped her arm around Mayas and hummed happily to herself.

>>"Can't place it?"
Maya's surprise keyed Evelyn in on the strange situation she was facing. All the drinking was actually making things feel...fuzzier. Maybe it wasn't working on the echoes, but the memories were certainly harder to access. She thought about it for a moment, and stuck her tongue out at Maya's smirk.
>>"Maybe you should not drink more."
"Why? It's sort of getting interesting now." She laughed, and wandered a few steps down one of the hallways, then turned back to Maya when the echoes started estimating costs of lightbulbs. Not what she really wanted to hear. "Actually, I sort of thought more about how my powers work, and I did have a sort of theory. So, the echoes and playbacks sort of work together. I remember everything, but if you imagine all that information as pieces of papers and files and folders and boxes, there would be so much to sift through remembering that much would feel useless because it would be hard to get to anything... but the echoes sort of... find stuff. Not just like, looking around here, but memories too, so if the echoes start having trouble maybe that's why it's harder to remember..." She rambled, somewhat less coherently than she might have. Or maybe, more coherently than she otherwise might have.
Oh, mail. That name seemed really familiar...
"You want to play cards? We could play cards... that seems really fun right now. The other kids used to hate playing with me because the echoes are really bad about the whole card counting thing..." She drifted back towards the cabinet where she was sure her parents used to keep some playing cards. The echoes started looking at the labels again.

Evelyn jumped slightly as Maya came over, a tint of pink on her cheeks. She pushed her hair from her face and chuckled slightly, nodding to the mail. "The echoes just wanted to see what was here..." She said without thinking about it. Out loud, the idea seemed silly. Now the voices in her head were pushing her around. She took another drink and scanned the papers more. Even if she wasn't looking for anything in particular, what was there surprised her. There was an open letter from a familiar looking name, and she scanned the words thoughtfully.
Or, tried to. Her reading wasn't doing so well now.
"You can probably grab one of those bottles for the road if you want. That's one of the few things I bet they take inventory of... I recognize this name, but I can't quite place who it is..." She mused. For some reason, she felt like she shouldn't be fond of the individual. But the echoes were already distracted again, pointing her down the hallway.
