The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sais were several things, but stacked together they certainly were not quiet. As Gawain and Evelyn took a step backwards, the moment was broken by the loud clatter of metal. It was loud enough to echo down the hallway, reminded Evelyn of where they were. She blushed and chuckled slightly, trying to keep the color from rising to her cheeks.
"Opps." She echoes. With a sheepish shrug she finally pushed the bedroom door open, and delicately scooted the weapons inside. She glanced over her shoulder at the clock on the wall, half hoping it wasn't close to midnight yet.
"I guess you probably have to get going, huh..." She said, a slight reluctance in her voice. She teetered in the doorway, brain still scrambled by the rush of emotions. She knew it was probably good the falling metal interrupted them, but still reluctant to let the moment go.

The kiss definitely added a new edge to the evening. It was different from any they had before, and it created a whole new set of emotions through her. She didn't need the echoes to sort out how Gawain felt. She could figure that out by herself at this point. The date was magical, and sweet, but there was something else here. She could see what her echoes kept distracting her from, and wondered if they'd be able to do that again.
She was getting a whole new batch of information now, and it just made her kiss back that much more intense. Probably a bit too much for the hallway though. She wasn't quite ready to move though and worried she would ruin the moment. Now would be a good time to just develop a phasing ability and sneak back through the door that way. If she tried backing up she was pretty sure she'd knock over the sai and attract attention that way. Hopefully, the hallway wouldn't have traffic for a little bit longer.
They had a bit of time still until midnight. She was somewhat greedily pushing that limit at this point.

The echoes caught the blush, and Evelyn had a slight color to match. But this time, she wasn't letting the echoes break. She had wonderful date, and maybe it was the dancing, or the butterflies, but she felt somewhat bolder. She leaned a little bit closer, expression shifting to a more flirtatious smile. "You do?" A little bit closer. "Are you sure?"
Although it was hard to maintain an alluring attitude when your heart felt like it was going to climb up your throat. Probably would have been better without the blush as well. Or maybe that helped. It was hard to tell.
The echoes could pinpoint every color in Gawain's eyes. She pulled back slightly, a brattier gesture just to add to the suspense.

It was hard to leave behind the butterfly garden. Something about being there just was like an escape. There was not chaos, they weren't fighting, they were just enjoying their time. The echoes were drowning out conversations, and the occasional butterfly just made it better. But at least they got to leave while the evening was still magical. Somehow, it felt like she could just put a stopper on that memory. It felt complete: happy. If she had a bad night, she could hold on to that at least.
Back at her room, the mansion was quiet. Tonight there weren't a lot of late night wanderers which at least gave them some form of privacy. Evelyn smiled at Gawain, and shifted her gift to lean it against the door. "I had more than just fun. It was a wonderful date. Definitely better than I could have asked for." She remarked. Gawain seemed to want to say something else, and the echoes chimed in on it. They were reliable this time.
"Something else on your mind?" She asked with a tilt of her head. Unfortunately, the echoes could exactly tell her WHAT he was thinking. So she still had to rely on Gawain for the answer.

As Gawain explained how the got the right weapon, she chuckled and shook her head. "Sneaky. I'm impressed. We'll have to test them out sometime, though, when it's not such a fancy evening. We can have a training session again." It was a little odd to say that with butterflies making the sai their perch.
Thoughts of training would have to wait though. There was still plenty of food to eat, the remainder of her glass of wine, and an enchanted evening to enjoy.

The moment ended, but the date wasn't over, so Evelyn could deal with that. She blinked somewhat in surprise though as Gawain mentioned a gift. "You didn't have to get me anything." She remarked in surprise, then visibly exhaled with surprise as he held out the gift.
Who knew weapons could be elegant too?
"I...how did..." Her thoughts were busted again. She gently took the sai, and shifted them in her hands. She knew he thought through the gift by the way they felt in her hands. Part of her was amused that a few months ago, she never even considered fighting anyone. Now the metal felt natural in her hand.
"Thank you. They're perfect." She said, still struggling with the right response. It would definately be fun to use them sometime, although they probably weren't appropriate for such an elegant evening. She gently set them down and chuckled to herself. "You keep surprising me, I'm going to have a happiness hangover by the end of the night." She grinned, looking down at the weapons, at the dinner, at the room... It didn't feel like there was anything to complain about.

Maybe it was silly Evelyn didn't want the song to end. She could relive her memories, it wasn't like she'd loose the moment. But being here, being in it, that felt different. Magical. The fast heart beat, warm glow in her face, the music and the lights... and the little butterflies. They were like hundreds of paintings drifting through the picture. She didn't know if even her memories could capture that. She hoped they could, but she enjoyed it still as if they couldn't.
As the song ended, she wasn't quite ready to move away. He kissed her on the knuckles, and she smiled and turned her head to kiss him on the lips. "Thank you." She said, and pulled herself closer, setting her head against his chest. She could hear the quiet now, the occasional whisper of wings that was almost inaudible, Gawain's heartbeat, his breathing. She smiled and sighed.

"Close enough." Evelyn agrees with a laugh, and once they started dancing she just enjoyed the moment. She wasn't lying: she was a fairly good danger, definitely much more graceful dealing with dance steps than battle training. She was grateful, in a way. Most of her fighting made her feel somewhat clumsy at times, at least she could feel a bit more polished and together in situations like this. Dancing in a more casual outfit was a fun twist though. It was much easier than navigating around in a dress.
And the dancefloor never had an audience like butterflies before.
Needless to say, she was having an amazing evening. Although part of her still half expected something to come busting through the roof. Sometimes, it felt like nice moments just couldn't happen without something chaotic to follow. At least she would never forget this. That was something she was grateful for tonight.

Evelyn watched the butterflies flutter away, mesmerized as they moved to the space in the garden. She was somewhat breathless by the whole evening. Maybe it was silly, but it was more than just a date. It could have been cheesy to someone else, but sometimes, the simple things were the best to her.
She smiled at Gawain, and listened as the music filled the space. It wasn't a song she was familiar with, but the melody was pretty. "I don't think it's cheesy. Charming, perhaps." She remarked. It was the first time she was actually excited for a dance, actually. Her heart beat a little faster as he re-approached, feeling like the butterflies were stuck in her stomach now instead of just around them.

Evelyn beamed slightly at the compliment. She had really been trying to work with her powers and get better at directing them, but it was wonderful to see some confirmation she was moving in the right direction. It was a mixture of teaching, really. She worked with Saph, Mirror, Forte, Locke. She couldn't say any one person was really responsible. But she couldn't have done any of this if she hadn't left home and found a way to stand on her own too feet. Although, that was a rather ironic thought, because her break for independence still involved relying on a lot of people. But in was in a healthier way.
Then Gawain stood and offered out a hand. Evelyn chuckled at the question. "I enjoy it from time to time. I was blessed enough not to have two left feet. Although it might have been useful...If I was a crappy dancer parties with my parents wouldn't have lasted so long." She set her own cup down, not quite finished, but she was somewhat more careful about drinking after her last fiasco with it. Moderation was good. Especially with voices in your head.

Evelyn listened to the answers, looking down at the butterfly, then back up at the mirror-walker, still statue still and hardly daring to breathe. She handle all kinds of rare antiquities at work, but nothing living. There was something terrifying and wonderful about having something so fragile so close. It's tiny legs tickled her finger and made it hard to concentrate. Thankfully the echoes were doing that.
She managed not to break either on the last remark. She chuckled slightly. "Fair answer. I don't know what I'd do if I had as many powers as you did. The echoes keep me busy enough, and the playbacks just feel like part of them." She started to shrug, and startled the butterfly so it lightly moved back to the grapes. Bummer.

"Scotland would be fun." Evelyn remarked with approval, and the open spaces would definitely fit into the 'quiet' sort of category. While there was never true silence, it was better than a bustling city. "I've never been outside of New York though so pretty much anywhere has an appeal." She mused.
She spun her glass again as she considered another question. "Hmm. What's your favorite thing about your powers?" She finally asked. It was harder to think of questions than the thought, but there was something entertaining about the whole thing. She was learning there was a lot she didn't know about Mirror still. One of the butterflies floated over to her hand and she froze, awkwardly torn between trying not to scare it away and listening to his answer.

Evelyn picked a grape and ate it thoughtfully as she considered the next question. That was somewhat tricky to answer, surprisingly.
"I'm sort of torn, to be honest. Part of me would love to visit Paris. I always wanted to visit the Louvre, and see some of my favorite paintings. Then walking the river and seeing where the impressionists worked, or just wandering the streets would really be amazing. At the same time, I'm worried the echoes would ruin it. Paris is noisy and busy, it might just feel like New York. So maybe I would rather be somewhere quiet like a forest. Maybe it wouldn't mean as much, but the silence is hard to compete with." She mused, twirling her glass in her hands.
"I'm not sure if that's a fair answer, but I'm picking both. What about you?" She send the question back, curious where the Mirror-walker would be dying to go. With the x-men, they must have gone a ton of places already...

Evelyn carefully noted each answer. She wouldn't have guess Chinese food, but the movie seemed like the logical choice. She considered her own answer with a sip of wine.
"Hmmm, color. I really like red, but I guess my favorite color would be teal. Not a color I really wear, but definitely something I love looking at. Food... I really like Italian, so probably would have to say that. Movie...I haven't watched many, but I did borrow one of the newer Sherlock Holmes movies, and that's at the top of my limited movie watching preferences at the moment." She shrugged.
"Your turn to think of something to ask." She said, watching another butterfly drift down and perch back on the table. This one has bright yellow wings, and she was somewhat envious of the contrast of black and yellow in it's patterns.
Evelyn followed Gawain's gaze to the small butterfly on the table, watching it for a moment then considering his question.
"Hmm I guess we could start somewhere basic. Tell me some of your favorites: food, color, movie. Watching, not walking, mind you." She added, smirking slightly. She snagged one of the grapes as the butterfly lazily moved to another perch. She was a little amused by the formalities, but relieved for the opportunity. They really never did get a chance to go through a lot of the typical 'getting to know you' rituals. Most of what she knew was implied or solved, and just asking questions felt nicer. She liked a mystery, but it felt more open when someone told you things themselves. Even if it was just small things like favorite colors.
