The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>"You forget that I can walk into movies"
"I think I would realize how impressive that is if I watched more of them. Keeps the surprise at least though." She watched the butterflies and smiled in response to Gawain's toast. It was definitely going to be something she was glad to remember. But the night was only starting.
The echoes were apparently not so great at monitoring butterflies. Their light movement was almost undetectable, and she didn't notice the butterfly around her head until she took her glass and was about to take a sip. She stopped at the little creature flapped it's wings, both surprised and excited to see it so close. The colors....She could see every scale, every detail. She was almost afraid to move it was so close now. She glanced up at Gawain, then back down again, her breathe finally convincing it to flutter away. Finally taking a sip, the wine was definitely as good as was rumored.

Being somewhere legally was probably newer to them then it should have been. It was nice not to have to worry about getting chased out or something though. She smiled and looked around more, watching a few butterflies sleepily shift on their perches. She could hear the movement from the basket and looked back as Gawain pulled out the wine. She peaked at the label. While she still didn't drink much, she recognized it and noted it was a good choice from what she heard.
"It's great. It's....different, but I like it. I probably spend too much time around paintings, but seeing something just as beautiful but alive is almost more mesmerizing..." Sure, butterflies weren't timeless, but maybe that was what made them so appealing now. The colors and the patterns weren't something you could just bottle forever. The essence could stay, but the moment had to be enjoyed. And she was enjoying it.
"You're raising my standards on dates now you know..." She teased. "Going to be hard to top this."

Evelyn wondered if it was a bad thing the promise Sam was not involved in this date gave her such a sense of reassurance. Sure, Sam meant well, but things tended to blow up when he was around. She took a seat the table, and wiggled somewhat excitedly as she looked around. She felt like she was years younger suddenly, the excitement somewhat unusual to her. With the echoes, things just stopped surprising her. Art was the only thing she usually held this much rapture over, but Gawain had done something special here... it was like this evening was a work of artwork. She could already see different pictures coming into place. Sketches of sleeping butterflies, paintings of the lantern lights.
Yet for once, she wasn't sure she could ever do the moment justice.
"How on earth did you manage this?" She whispered somewhat breathlessly. She glanced back down at Gawain, face still flushed with happiness. She felt like a school girl... It was silly, but it felt like this made up for the dates she never got to go on.

Walking with a blindfold on was much more difficult when Evelyn had never been somewhere before. It was easy to navigate by memory, but much harder to rely on echos alone. It forced her to put faith in Gawain though, which was probably a good thing. It took her out of her element which made the suspense better.
Up a few steps, and then they stopped. Evelyn waited nervously as Gawain removed the blindfold. She wasn't sure what she expected, but she let out a slight gasp at what she saw. "It's..." Her mind spun for the right words, but she couldn't quite form them. The lights, the butterflies, the picnic! She beamed and hugged Gawain in happiness, and instead of trying to word her delight, kissed him as well. Maybe he'd get the point.

Evelyn couldn't remember ever feeling this nervous. Most of the time, when she DID feel nervous, it certainly wasn't a positive thing. Facing down bad guys, surviving the danger room or tryouts: she remembered those nervous emotions. This? This was full on butterflies that made her feel happy at the same time.
Getting asked on a date was a first for Evelyn. Sure, they had several 'almost' dates, but this was really the first intentional one. She had pieces of nice evenings, but most of them also had the scattered not so nice memories. Getting in a fight with her parents, getting attacked by books, dodging swords and solving mysteries were fun, but not necessarily romantic. Evelyn was still a dreamer at heart, and even with the echoes trying to ruin things like suspense and mystery, she liked not knowing how things were going to go sometimes.
She got dressed in one of her warmer outfits. black leggings, jacket and a white scarf and skirt. Since she didn't know where they were going, layers seemed like a good option. Gawain complimented her, she blushed. It felt good to feel appreciated. She didn't mind all the little date courtesys either. The opening of the door, the driving, it just felt nice somehow.
The blind fold was cute, but not completely effective. The echoes still tried to sort out where they were by the shift in the car, but she listened to the music and tuned them out. This time, she didn't want to know. She just wanted to enjoy the evening, and be surprised for once.
Once out of the car, through a reflective surface, they stopped, and she tried to make sense of her surroundings. It sounded fairly quiet, but the echoes picked up movement. The scent was somewhat floral, in a way. Or forestry... Most of New York smelt like cars and fumes so that was definitely different.
"Ok...you win...I'm stumped." She said, unable to register where he had taken her.

Evelyn's game was largely relying on her fellow players. In many ways, the center cards didn't matter this early on. It was looking at the competition to judge their hands, bets, and act accordingly. Some were oddly transparent. The figure closest to couldn't mask the disappointment when his cards flipped over, and the instantaneous switch a blank expression still wasn't fast enough to avoid her echoes picking it up. His bet was clearly a bluff, or just a faint hope one of the middle cards would tilt things in his favor.
Further down the line, the body language was more collected, but she still caught the faint trace of a smile that was pushed aside as the player considered his hand. He didn't bother being careful about his bet at this point.
The last stranger though... He was hard to read. His body language suggested one thing, but Evelyn wasn't confident in the feedback. After consideration, she decided he didn't seem to have anything, considering the money she took note of earlier, he certainly could afford to loose. She put down her own chips, staying in the middle ground for the moment and watching. She was careful not to give anything away, but her expression was thoughtful as she considered her fellow players. The community cards weren't helpful, but she had enough to stand on already. She would stay in.

Maya's body language finally changed, and that was a relief. Evelyn no longer felt like she had to worry as much, and that was a weight off her own shoulders. The smile just topped things off and helped make the morning better.
Then Maya's question reached her and Evelyn blinked slightly in surprise. "I...would I...of course, I mean." Her cheeks colored slightly but she smiled, pleasantly surprised by the question. She didn't think they'd ever actually get a chance to go on a real date, after the baby, and the chaos, and the fighting..."Did you have anything in mind or...?" It felt like sort of a whim question, but she was still curious how things would work out.

>>"I don't want to fight with you."
That was enough for Evelyn. They'd have to sort through everything else, but for now, she just wanted them to be ok, and whatever it took to make that happen she was willing to try. She chuckled slightly at Maya's next remark though and leaned over, kissing her on the forehead.
"We were fighting when we met. But I do think we're getting better at working through it." There was still yelling and storming off, but it seemed better at least. They hadn't broken up yet. That was something right?
"What sort of celebrating were you thinking?" She said with a tilt of her head, clearing her mind from the jumbled thoughts she was trailing.

Evelyn fidgeted, and was relieved for the moment things had simmered down. But it was hard to work through this without at least the risk of it blowing up again. Nothing ventured nothing gained? Something like that right... Maybe it was better to let it rest though. The problem might just evaporate on it's own, but it didn't seem like something that could be solved in this moment.
"We were both stressed." She remarked. Maya's body language was hard to read though. "So?" She repeated, waiting for the other shoe to fall. The echoes kept watch in the hallway, hoping no one else would wander through barefoot in the meantime.

Evelyn sighed at Mirror's response. Maybe it could be better if she let it slide, but she wasn't sure they'd ever really work through it that way. "If I were a better girlfriend I would have took your concerns seriously. My powers don't give me the best judgement sometimes." She added. She fidgeted and her foot still stung which at least was a distraction.
She shrugged her shoulders at glanced back at the floor. "I wanted to reassure you that there wasn't anything to worry about though. And it totally just blew up instead. I don't know how to fix that." Another sigh. It was days like today she wished she slept every night.

Evelyn sighed and gritted her teeth through the pain. Maybe her foot stung a bit, but it felt like the feelings in her gut were the worst. She hated arguing, and in her mind, it just felt one continuous conversation, the memories too crisp, hurt feelings too raw. Maybe she shouldn't have come back. That seemed like a dumb choice now.
"Listen, I'm sorry. I don't know what else I'm supposed to say. I'm sorry I suck as a girlfriend. And I'm sorry I keep screwing up as a trainee. I was stressed out yesterday. The museum meant everything to me, and it's in shambles. I don't even know what we can salvage." The thought made her stomach turn. Things she felt were timeless, perhaps gone forever.

>>"You went to an illegal casino? Alone?"
"Yes. And I didn't end up broke, adapted dealers don't work against echo-ooowwww." She yelped as the glass was pulled out, and wiggled her foot away. "And we can either spend all day arguing about it or move on. You got in a fist fight over a baby and left glass in the hallway. I went gambling. We're both less than perfect examples of x-men so can we move on?" She exhaled through her nose. She didn't feel like explaining herself. That blew up in her face last time, and if Maya was just going to be mad at her, well, she could be mad. Evelyn was a crappy girlfriend. The end.
"I can finish this myself...you probably have better things to do..." She said. Part of her expected it to come out angry, but it just sounded sad instead. It was a crappy week, and she was exhausted.

>>"You know her?"
"Small world." She shrugged. Complicated seemed like an understatement.
>>"Wait, why are you telling me this?"
Honesty was the best policy right? "Well I was still mad and the echoes found one so I blew off some steam." She muttered and hoped Maya would remember she still had Evelyn's injured foot in her hand. Having the other girl twitch at this point could drive the glass deeper, and that would just seem somewhat mean.

The name rang through Evelyn's mind, and Evelyn tilted her head slightly to the side. "Allison. Ink manipulator? That was her kid? I knew she was pregnant but how on earth did... Guess it's not really relevant." She decided it was safer not to mention she still had the girl's phone number in her phone. That would probably just open up another can of worms right now.
"In other news, did you know New York has a decidedly less than legal casino?" She remarked. Since they were getting things out in the open....

The statement gave Evelyn a rush of emotions she wasn't quite prepared for at this time of the morning. There was the relief in what Maya was saying, then slight irritation they fought over the darn kid... But the echoes considered it for a moment, reading Maya's body language and flinching slightly at the movement of her foot. At least she cleaned up before coming here. Having really dirty feet would make this super extra awkward.
"Are you going to miss it? Baby X, that is. I mean, I am glad you're not a parent but...It seemed like part of you might of appreciated having family." She remarked. She wasn't sure how tactful that statement was, but all things considered, she was being more polite than expected. She got in an argument with her boyfriend the day before and now her foot was sliced open thanks to his brawl with his not-baby's mother in the hallway...
