The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was a fairly uneventful week for Evelyn so far. She was back to work, dealing with the repairs at the museum after their mutant fiasco the weeks before. For awhile, the damage looked like it would be un-repairable, but then her boss surprised her by bringing in someone new to help with things.
The mutant had a unique ability: she could repair damaged artwork, sort of like a restoration skill. It looked like it could save the MET, but as they worked with her, the process became more time consuming than that. With Evelyn's echoes, she was able to pick out the problems with their progress. The damage was repaired, but some of the missing 'pieces' weren't. After coming to life, the subjects animated then got scrambled. Bits of paint clung to parts of the museum from the self defense efforts of those involved. Their new staff member had to have ALL pieces of the artwork to restore it, so Evelyn was forced to track, identify, and help get the missing pieces back in place.
It was tedious, and she was mentally drained at the end of the day. At least she was working mornings right now, and she could grab lunch and head back to the mansion. As she moved through the park, she rubbed her forehead and exhaled through her nose. She hoped they could successfully fix the museum. If they couldn't, her memories would continue to haunt her.
The echoes noticed the figure on the bench before Evelyn really took note of her. Eating her lunch, there was something about her that read a little off. Evelyn thought it was familiar, in a way though. She noted the files and the food as she pulled closer, then finally figured out why the motions were familiar. When you had voices in your head you noticed the somewhat awkward behavior of people who heard voices (or dead people, like Clay). She slowed a bit too much though, then realized she was staring at the woman.
Well, that was probably rude.
"Sorry, I just..." She what? She thought the girl acted like she might not just have her own thoughts floating around her? Thought she might be a mutant? Well that was dumb. Her eyes slowly lost their grey color as she focused on shutting off her powers, then realized she had stopped in front of the girl.

Evelyn wasn't particularly thrilled at the idea of splitting up, but the situation was definitely taking a more risky turn. Of the assassins, only one of their powers was known. These other two could do anything... And the echoes didn't have anything to read at this point.
She was hoping surprise was still on their side, but if they didn't move fast, tables could turn. This was supposed to just be a clever way to contact Gawain's mom. But they knew things might not go smoothly after all.
Gawain hit the ground, and her echoes tracked him. Meanwhile she tried keeping track of the two mutants she could still see. The first figure disappeared into the warehouse, where the would be target would not be. Meanwhile the figure on the roof had stopped and was training their attention to the ground.
"Roof is watching, keep close to the wall if you can." She murmured quietly into the com. Then the echoes started buzzing and picking up on movement.
[Smoke.]
"Left, by the dumpster." She remarked quickly, even as the vapor seemed to hone in on Gawain. Her fingers drifted to the pouch on her side, readying for a change in game plan.
The figure on the roof's mouth was moving. [Com? Communicating with other companion?] Careful... She mentally hissed.

So I'd be interested in posting with you if you're up for it! I've got three characters: Evelyn, Ryden and Tses. All three of them frequent the park, so that's not a problem. Evelyn works at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, so she passes through there for work. She lives at the mansion and she's got Hyper Observance. Tses is a pain in the butt street kid who makes explosives out of moonlight. She'd be more likely to try and steal Lana's wallet than talk to her... And Ryden lives on his own, but hangs out at the park because his voice makes metal and glass resonate and explode, so it's less risky to talk there than most places.

Being a tactician seemed all good in theory, but actually trying to make decisions on the spot took a lot more effort than it seemed. Glancing at the first individual, and then tracking the movements of the second, she started to digest what she was reading.
"First figure shows habits that seem to confirm at least some battle training or experience. Not likely to just be a bystander. He has a mission. Second figure is hanging back. It's hard to read body language from here, but I don't think there is as much confidence in their movement, which could mean a couple things... Could be trying to stay out of sight, stay out of the way, or keep an--"
She froze as the echoes picked up new movement, and yanked Gawain to the back of the fire escape, pushing his back into the wall. It wasn't a polite action, but all things considered it was better than the alternative. She followed the echoes feedback and looked up. Sure enough, she could make out the faint shadow of a figure before they appeared at the edge of the roof.
Please don't look down, don't look down... She mentally hissed. By some miracle the figure didn't, moving along the edge of the building, watching the figure as they drifted towards the warehouse. Now would be a good time to find a better place to stand... If the figure on the roof came to use the fire escape, they would all have a rather awkward encounter. But something about the third figure was gnawing at her echoes... the movements were certainly a bit more on the feminine side, but there were a few kinks in the gestures. It reminded her of someone who was trying to get used to a new pair of shoes. There was certainly a possibility...
"Gawain, maybe..." She whispered. Something still didn't feel right. She glanced back down. Person number two was gone.

Regardless of where she was now, Evelyn was still pretty sure she could have made a wicked super villain. Maybe it was the white hair. Or maybe it was the grey eyes...Today they were definitely more grey with her powers working overtime, and she frowned slightly as that work revealed some unfortunate information.
"There's more than one person." She remarked.
The first person was dressed simply enough. The tall stature and hair wasn't much to go off of, and body language was fairly comfortable. As they moved through the alleyway, she could read more into it though. While he acted comfortable there was certainly an awareness to his surroundings. He glanced up, which was an unusual direction for people to look unless they had at least some experience with fighting or were just paranoid. Most people looked behind them, some looked towards places like windows and dark corners. He was definitely more aware than that though.
The second figure was wearing a hat, and it was hard to read gender from where they were standing. It could be a fairly slim female, or a man. The jacket wasn't giving a tell one way or the other, and they were still close to the wall which made it hard to get a good look. The last thing Evelyn wanted to do at this point was crane her neck over the fire escape and draw attention to them. The fire escape at least had a solid bottom which wouldn't give them away, but amateur curiosity could undo that.

Evelyn nodded as Gawian spoke, the echoes already honed in on the building below. The nice thing about having voices in your head was that you could have your attention split, so it was easy enough to listen to Gawain while watching the building. She added the information about there being someone else observing the situation. The echoes were watching someone and also looking for someone else watching.
She caught the mask and the hat and set them on the ground. Her hair was already braided, so it just took a quick twist to get it into the hat before she put the mask on. ”Do I look like a super villain now?” She said, a halfhearted comment to relive some of the tension building as they waiting. ”Red lipstick could have looked nice.” She mused as an afterthought. She paused as the echoes caught movement, and glanced back over the edge of the building.

Evelyn had done quite a few things in the past year that the voice of reason should have told her was a bad idea. But since she joined the x-men, she was expecting that number to increase. Ironically, the most recent chaos was Mirror's fault. Ninja assassins did seem up their ally though.
Revisiting the baby argument was definitely not something she enjoyed, but after their last fight, and the eventual date, she was more open to listening and working it out. Besides, she was somewhat relieved Mirror had come to her. Not only did that mean they trusted her with something this important, but it was as close to a mission as she could get at this point. She wanted to prove she was capable, and any opportunity to do that she couldn't resist. So she put on a more mission appropriate outfit, strapped on her sai under her jacket, and packed a few other supplies before heading out. She always wanted an excuse to wear a black leather jacket...
The credit card had been her idea. Needless to say, she was still a little miffed at her parents, but it also gave the good excuse for the eventual 'hit'. Her family didn't exactly make friends, and the confrontation between Evelyn and the mutants who jumped her during the riots had spread through her family grapevine. The 'target' was general enough she was pretty sure no one would get hunted down for real. She was careful about the details to be on the safe side though.
"I pretty much said there were some mutants that attacked me during the riots, and two of them got away. I was hoping to hire someone who could help settle the score." It sounded legit enough. She was a mutant, but she didn't have the offensive capabilities to take on someone who could light an alleyway on fire, and her connections with the x-men weren't public at this point.
The return teasing got Evelyn's heart racing more, and the answered with a slightly more intense kiss on the lips. She was pretty sure she wasn't going to be bored at this point, but appreciated the option just in case. Not that their last game of cards had been completely innocent...They could always do a rematch of that sometime.
In the corner of her eyes, she caught a glimpse of the sketch where it got placed on the desk, before her eyes closed with the moment. Memories of the night drifted back to the surface and mingled with the happy emotions now. It was a great date, and a good way to celebrate her birthday. The goodnight kiss just topped it off. And for once, the echoes were being useful in a romantic situation.

Or...
To most people, dating a gender shifter might have been odd. A short while ago she was making-out with Gawain, and now Gawain was Maya. There were definitely some things that changed between different days, but Evelyn's feelings didn't. She could note the differences in behavior at times, but Mirror was still Mirror.
And kissing Mirror was nice either way.
After a short kiss, Evelyn pulled back, and smirked once more. "You sure you don't want to play cards? I'm not tipsy this time. I could beat you." She was pretty sure her expression confirmed she wasn't interested in cards, regardless of the teasing.

>>"Looks like the butterflies were a good idea"
Evelyn beamed, and glanced back at the pictures, shrugging slightly. "You could say that. Just wait until I get some paints..." She added. Although she wasn't quite thinking about painting at this point. Maya's next question was ringing in her mind.
>>"So... what now?"
Evelyn crossed her arms, and pretended to consider it for a moment. "Well, I got some pencils, I could teach you to sketch..." She took a small step forward. "Or maybe we could play cards. That was fun." She was stopped a few inches away, once more tauntingly close, but not quite touching. "Or..."
So she wasn't making this easy. But somehow being a bit bratty took away a little of her nervousness.

As Gawain left, Evelyn retreated into her room and tried to remember how to breathe. Moving the Sai to a less noisy place on her desk, she dressed down to just the skirt and black top, and forced herself not to pace. It wasn't like Mirror hadn't been to her room before, but after the kissing her brain was still buzzing. She finally sat down to sketch a little though, leaving a paper half covered in butterflies before Maya finally stepped through the mirror.
"Hey." Evelyn remarked back. It was the most casual statement in the world, but it still got her pulse going again. It was a good thing she tended not to sleep... she had no idea how she even could today. She pushed the artwork aside and turned her attention to Maya.

After the evening it was hard to feel disappointed about anything, but she was somewhat annoyed the clock was going so fast. Midnight seemed awful early right now, especially for someone who didn't sleep.
>>"Not as bad as the other way around, but still need to get out my clothes..."
Evelyn perhaps considered that comment a moment too long, then blushed when she realized what she was doing.
"Yeah, I guess you would want to, I mean...I should...draw or something..." She stumbled over her words, blush gradually crawling over her cheeks. Apparently knocking over the sai wasn't the most awkward moment so far. "If you wanted to come back after....I mean, I'll be up. I mean, because I don't sleep, not that I..." She shut her mouth then sheepishly rubbed the back of her neck. "I'll be here." She finished lamely.
