The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

[Movement. Shelving unit. Estimated trajectory...] Werecat went flying and there was a crash from the other side of the convenience store. [Beer cooler. Evelyn wasn't incredibly concerned at this point. WereCat was tough, she would bounce back, but she was a little bummed things had gotten so violent... maybe handing over the money would have been cheaper in the long run.
Side stepping as a punch went over her head, Evelyn countered with a hit to his leg this time. She drifted towards the baking aisle, with the limited collection of salt and flour. Any, if not most of that, seemed like it could come in handy with fires popping up. She had to wonder why the sprinklers weren't kicking on yet though.
One goon struggled back to his feet, and the mutant Evelyn was facing suddenly took an even more heated turn. Fire spread across his body, his glare becoming somewhat more amused. The yell from Sara almost made her roll her eyes. "Thanks, I can kinda see that right now though!" She answered, scrambling back into the aisle, hooking a bag of flour with her sai and throwing it into the fire mutants face. It let out a WMPH! on contact, his face going out, but the flour didn't quite reach his still burning arm. This he swung out in reflex, and clipped Evelyn solidly across the forearm and she moved to defend her face.
Burn clothing added to the smells in the air and she yelped, patting out the embers before a larger fire could start on her jacket.

The echoes caught the movement getting close, but it was hard to see the figure with the extra thugs in the way. Her focus was divided on the closest mutant, and as the security features kicked in for the clerk, at least one problem was partially taken care of. The gaze from the horned mutant looked almost amused, then the spit hit the sai.
The danger room didn't exactly plan for when your weapon caught on fire...
There were two initial reactions that came to mind as the flames shot towards her hand, and the echoes quickly considered them as her thoughts raced at the speed only capable thanks to her mutation. The first option was to drop the sai and hope the fire went out, but that would loose a weapon and put her at a disadvantage. The second option was to use something to put the sai out, and the echoes scrambled to think of that option. Eyes turned gray, fire raced towards hand, a gunshot rang out and there was a crashing of shelves...
... all as Evelyn slammed the sai into the mutants shoulder, flames licking up and around her hand as she did so. "You'll find I'm just full of tricks!" She remarked, letting go of the burning weapon and slamming the second sai butt first at his face. The mutant snarled and shoved her backwards towards the hot dog machine, even as she saw WereCat perching on the shelving, saluting her.It almost made her smile, especially when the echoes noted the popcorn in her hand. It just figured Sara would eat popcorn while thugs were robbing the store.
Evelyn didn't really have a chance to return Sara's acknowledgement as the mutant knocked her back towards the hot dog machine, burning sai still in his shoulder. Her now burned but free hand wiped backwards and grabbed the tongs from the display, then snatched the sai in his shoulder and wrenched it free. Flames started to travel back down her hand as she caught a punched aimed for her head, his fist slamming against the metal and clattering somewhat unnaturally.
The sai and hot dog tongs hit the ground and were kicked away across the floor. So far, nothing seemed to put out the fire, which was unfortunate. Fighting with only one sai was somewhat like having a hand tied behind your back. Evelyn tried to think of a way to improvise and arm herself with something new.

As the hand touched her shoulder Evelyn forced herself not to flinch, but the forked tongue hissing by her ear was a little much. His breathe smelled, but she forced herself to keep her expression blank. She had been through training situations, but nothing really added up to dealing with thugs in a convenience store. Especially when the floors were slippery, and she was facing more than one opponent should things go wrong...
The echoes started calculating the situation, looking for openings, for the best course of attack. Meanwhile, one hand was inching back where her sai were tied. Strangely enough, the echoes caught other movement though on the other end of the store. The silhouette seemed feline, but she didn't get a chance to let the echoes look closer. Whoever it was would hopefully stay out of the way.
The mutant reached towards her hair and her brow creased slightly in warning. He turned to the cashier instead.
The envelope on the counter, the denial put in place, and the demeanor of the thug changed. The warning pings of 'trouble' turned into clanging bells as the figures shifted. "I think I must have misheard you," he snarled, the smoke from his jaws billowing a bit more.
The sai were already in Evelyn's hands though and one flashed between him and the cashier. "I think you heard him just fine." She said coldly.

There was a lot of commotion coming from upstairs as the door to the elevator pinged open. The sound of motor bikes got the biker to look up just long enough that Evelyn could jump forward, and a hit him with a punch that sent him away from the kids inside. While Evelyn was not particularly strong, she could still pack some force behind her punches, something the biker learned as he fell into the wall.
"Get out of here, quick!" Evelyn yelled at Mai as she stepped in front of her, the biker straightening up and growling with anger. She heard the shuffle of feet heading towards the stairs but let the echoes focus on the man she'd just ticked off.
"Bad move, princess." He snarled, and his fist went flying towards her face. [Right punch, faked left.] She caught one punch, dodging sideways so the other connected with her shoulder. Swinging her knee up she missed his groin, but still got the whoosh of air that left his stomach from contact. Even with the echoes warning she wasn't quite fast enough to avoid the hand that grabbed her hair, or stop the punch that caught her along the face and sent the echoes scrambling.
It was a bad time for a reboot...
Training kicked in even as the information flooded her mind. She was unarmed, but she had to use her environment. Anything goes, especially in a fight like this. Blindly grabbing the walkie talkie she had on her hip, she swung and felt the distant impact of the metal to the bikers face. His roar of anger broke through the wave of playbacks she was getting, and her head slammed back into the wall.

Evelyn watch Gawain carefully, the echoes studying his body language. It was easy to tell how sorry someone was, and lies were equally easy to spot. He apologized, which was a start. She was still somewhat irritated, but it wasn't like she was perfect herself. Their last fight about Forte reminded her of that. It was hard to just let it go like it was nothing though.
>>"I should have told you..."
"Yeah, you should have. If you found me here with someone else, you probably would be upset too." She reeling in her echoes and her words at the same time. There were several directions the argument could take, and she really didn't want to get into any of them at the moment. "Just, go ahead and enjoy the night. Not much that can be done about it now..." Kate finished bandaging her hand and Evelyn crossed her arms, glancing away. "I should get back to work." She finished. Her job here at the museum meant too much to let this put it in jeopardy.

Evelyn was still biting her tongue and trying to keep her head, but listening to Gawain's explanation made it difficult to do that. The glass was out of her hand but she still felt like bits of it were jabbing inside her stomach. It wasn't that he took up Kate's offer to escort her, it was that he hadn't even thought to tell Evelyn about the whole thing. She opened her mouth to talk, then shut it again. She wasn't sure she trusted her temper at the moment.
Kate gave her the moment she needed to collect herself though as she asked the curator if they could go to the back. Evelyn was pretty sure she was going to be in a bit of trouble for making such a mess, but she would just have to deal with that when it came around. In the back, Kate's body language changed though, and Evelyn was almost pleased at her remark towards Gawain.
Served him right. She held out her hand reluctantly to Kate. Somehow jealousy and glass always seemed to fall together... "I don't care that you came with someone, but you could have at least warned me..." She added with a deep breathe. She didn't even know what to say. Her boyfriend showed up to the Gala with someone else. It was like having your boyfriend bring a date to your own party. She bit her tongue again. She wasn't as collected as Kate seemed to be.
"It's fine..." She added as Kate helped with her hand. She'd rather the stranger deal with it than Gawain right then.

>>"You're over analyzing,"
Evelyn blinked and glanced back at him as she listened to what he was saying. She looked around where they were at, and wasn't really sure what they could use here. If he controlled the earth, anything like a rock would probably just be like throwing someone ammo. Trees were organic though, and she watched the movement in the earth. It was somewhat away from the tree.
"I guess I could just use the environment I'm in.... I always feel like I respond more in the heat of battle though. Trying to make discussions before I really know my opponent presents a challenge..." She wasn't sure exactly what he was doing with the earth. The echoes had guesses, but part of the process of deduction was putting pieces together. You only got results when you had enough pieces.

The last voice Evelyn wanted to hear at that moment was Gawain, but of course, he would be the one to walk over. She refused to look up, carelessly snatching the shards into her hand in a robotic effort to keep her temper in check. She could feel the edges pricking her skin, but her emotions were all over the place, the echoes chaotically buzzing in her head.
[Broken vase. $40. High heel shoes, designer collection, Kate Spade. $300. Men's leather shoes--Voice, Gawain.] She was tempted to take another glance at the designer shoes. But the echoes were distracted by the hand he held to stop her from grabbing more glass.
>>"Leave it, this needs a broom, unless you want to cut your hand."
"I can handle this sir if you'd like to get back to your date." Evelyn hissed quietly. Then the echoes heard the voice and footsteps, identifying Kate as she came over.
>>"Are you alright?"
She clenched her hand slightly, glass digging into her skin. She exhaled though her nose and tried to compose herself. She'd done hundred of dinner parties, dealt with fights and arguments with her parents. Why should this be any different?
Unfortunately, she was learning, she was somewhat reckless when she was jealous. "I'm fine, I didn't mean to interrupt everyone's party." She was forced to look at Kate and that just sucked on several different levels. As jealous as she was she could see Kate was trying to be nice. She let herself stand out of the way. She was still holding a fist-full of glass, dumbly refusing to let it go. She felt like releasing her hand could make her say something irritated and angry she would regret.

Someone was watching them, and after looping to the back to fill the half-full tray with more sandwiches, she got another look at the 'couple', finding it hard to give them the benefit of the doubt. The way she was looking at him and giggling and holding his hand... her knuckles were white on the tray...
"Miss, are you going to..." One of the patrons ventured, and then followed her gaze. "I thought she was dating a prince or something..."
"Yeah, well, I thought he was dating someone too." She grumbled, glaring at the figure of Gawain then turning back to put the tray on the table.
She may have accidentally knocked over a vase of flowers in the process. Grumbling, she knelt and started picking up the pieces of glass, wondering if the knight could get worse.

Evelyn always had mixed emotions about Gala events. She enjoyed seeing the museum filled with people, and seeing the artwork appreciated while the museum worked to cause some good for charity. She loved seeing the outfits and people watching, but she secretly hated dealing with the actual people. Or, not so secretively. Most of the staff knew she struggled with customer service, but they were running out of excuses to keep her away from the patrons. On nights like tonight, it was all hands on deck, so Evelyn was stuck sporting her museum name tag and moving through the museum to deal with things like refreshing the buffet table and helping the event organizers get what they needed. Overall, it was going pretty well.
Or, it had been. Then she saw a familiar figure coming through the doors and her echoes started flagging out confusing information.
There was really no good response when your boyfriend entered a room with another woman on his arm. It took all of Evelyn's control to keep her face calm as the simmering feeling of jealousy welled in her gut. The jealousy mingled with the confusion drifting through her heart, and the misleading information darting through the echoes in her head.
Gawain hadn't seen her, thankfully, and she moved off to one side trying to collect herself. Whispers started through the crowd though, glances shooting towards mirror and the woman he was with, and she tried to filter the woman's face through her memories. She must have seen her somewhere, the echoes weren't noting her the way they did new people, but identifying where...
[Katherine Elizabeth Stanley Finch-Hatton, 18th Countess of Winchilsea and 13th Countess of Nottingham, girlfriend of Alfred Grimaldi. Well, if that wasn't a snapshot from some magazine rack or another... The museum staff had those laying around all the time though so it wasn't surprising there was at least one article on hand. Still didn't make sense though. Why would Mirror show up at a party another woman?
Why would he show up at a party his own girlfriend was working with someone else's girlfriend...?
They were defiantly close, the echoes caught that, but her own emotions were mingling with the readings. What could just be friendly teasing could also be flirting. Were they flirting? They were laughing a lot, and she was holding his hand. Why was she holding his hand....?
The jealousy coiled and she grabbed one of the plates of food, determined to have something to do. It wasn't entirely empty yet, but it was better than watching Gawain and the 'Countess' or whoever she really was. She couldn't resist glancing back though as she held the tray. Ever her poker face wasn't enough to mask the jealous and confused look that lingered on her features.

Evelyn nodded slightly and rubbed her forehead. "Well, who knows, maybe I'll run into her again or something. Just, let it air itself out and maybe the space will help?" The verbal question mark showed she was trying to be helpful, but she wasn't sure how successful she was at it. Old memories and emotions brushed at the back of her mind so she tried not to linger on them too much, instead she gave Gawain a reassuring squeeze on his hand before moving to put the first aid kit away and sat on her bed.
"In the end, maternal instincts will probably kick in. She will want what's best for her kid, and if you can help them, that might be enough. Just, don't stress about it too much yet. It's been a long day anyway."

Try not to move.... Evelyn could handle that instruction. She kept the sai handy in case someone got too close, but her head was defiantly still feeling a little spiny right now. The echoes didn't miss how serious Kyle was though. She didn't envy the individual who was going to be on the receiving end of his anger. Although, the more art she saw destroyed, the more she felt the man would deserve it. It was that small side of her that drifted away from the hero mindset. She selfishly found herself wishing the mutant would get what he deserved for what he did here.
A few art pieces that weren't quite down for the count shifted nearby, but they still seemed preoccupied with each other. Dehorsed riders assessed armor, and a few dogs from nearby exhibits wandered past. Evelyn let the echoes track the actions as best they could, scooting back to the wall so she could brace her back against it. She glanced to where Kyle was moving, waiting and watching, wondering if she wanted to see what would happen. It was a choice she'd have to make soon, because in her world, she could never erase a memory.

Evelyn couldn't help but grin at the praise, then let Gawain help with the cut. It was definitely easier with someone else doing it. Trying to tie bandages on one armed was always tricky. She was somewhat bewildered she was getting used to doing things like this though. Part of being in training though... Her arms were gradually collecting nicks and bruises. While the more serious injuries were always handled by DocProf, she was looking less and less like the polished damsel she came here as. She wondered momentarily if that was a good or a bad thing.
There seemed to be a lot of that wondering right now though.
"Well that would verify what DocProf found. But I'm not sure it will mean much unless you and Alli see more eye to eye..." She trailed off. That was a delicate subject still. At least she was learning to tread more carefully in conversation. She had blurted out one too many things recently, she was trying her best to be more tactful. Controlling the echoes a bit more helped with that though.

Evelyn nodded slowly, the echoes feeding off Mirror's mixed emotions. She had her own about the matter. She knew both her parents, and they were their own variety of awful. But they were the only family she had. She wasn't sure if having siblings was good or bad though. They knew at least one line of Mirror's family wasn't the greatest though.
"I guess that could end up going in a number of different directions..." She bit her tongue on her own thoughts and emotions. Part of her was somewhat envious of Gawain and his mom. Sure, he rarely saw her, but she didn't seem bad. She'd trade a decent parent she rarely saw for the ones she had now.... She smiled at the kiss on the forehead though.
"Thanks for letting me help. Oh, you can keep these now if you want..." She tossed him the pouch of throwing stars then moved back to finish cleaning up the cut on her arm. A few seconds later she shifted to fishing for the first aid kit. "At least metal is harder to break than glass, so hopefully they'll come in handy.

The trip back to the mansion gave the echoes a little time to calm down, although mirror-walking still left them somewhat incoherent as they tried to analyze things along the trip. By the time she was back in her own room she was starting to be more aware of how tired she was feeling, and after removing mask and freeing her hair she drifted towards the bathroom for a wash cloth to clean up her arm.
"Interesting.... Hopefully it at least helped a little though?" She ventured cautiously. Part of her was hoping to avoid the topic of Jillian's black eye. She was just glad that hadn't come back to haunt her yet.
