The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

So, I play Evelyn, Tses, and Ryden. Evelyn has hyper-awareness and is an x-trainee at the mansion. I'm not really sure where they'd run into each other unless he decided to go to a museum or was in the park or something, but she can be a little outspoken, although mostly friendly, when she meets people.
Tses is a pain in the butt thief who can pretty much be anywhere or everywhere. She can't swim though, which could either be a good or a bad thing. If I push her off a pier somewhere the flailing and cussing would probably generate some attention in the aquatic world. That could be a fun thread starter though.
I also have Ryden who breaks things when he talks. He is a reporter so he wanders from time to time, and he tries to get away from the city especially when he's got a deadline.

Noel was fairly transparent as far as behaviors went. From choking on her soda to the slight snort of air, there was something easy going about her Evelyn liked. She didn't beat around the bush, didn't gloss over details as she spoke, and the honesty was appreciated. Growing up in a world of masquerades, genuine individuals were somewhat rare and valuable in her eyes.
Evelyn noted each statement as they went, emotions rising and falling as she went. Mutations had never been a problem before: good news, hopefully. Ice cream scoop, not a laser: could be more on the bad news end of things. The sunglasses came off, and Evelyn saw Noel's eyes. Hazel, nothing particularly freaky at this point, which was actually almost rare after all the mutants she'd met. The openness continued through the woman's gaze.
Disorientation... could be problematic. She could send a quick text to Jensen though, he was in town and could give her a ride back to the mansion. The less her friends knew about what she was trying, the better. Jotting things down... that almost brought a chuckle. With all the drawings she had in her room, walls of memories, it felt silly to think about having to write something down.
And, payment. Evelyn nodded, and gave a slight smile. "Do you prefer cash, check or cards?" It was already clear what her choice was on the matter, but the slight joking made her feel better about it.
"No, your rules sound fair... As for the memories, it might be easiest just to pick one specific memory to try. If that one works, maybe we can talk about others, but I'm hoping this was recent enough it wouldn't make too much of a mess of things." The Danger Room session with Saph hadn't been completely bad, but once he let the room 'kill' her, it took a downhill turn. She might loose some of the training in the process, but she would never admit how much the memories themselves were hurting her.
It was just one memory, and there were no guarantees it would work anyway. Being with the X-men was a learning experience anyway: testing and exploring her powers. If she had a perfect memory, wasn't it better to test it could always stay that way? That was the logic as she sat on the cold bench, making the deal with Noel. Even the echoes concerned chattering didn't deter her.
The woman up ahead didn't look particularly intimidating. Brown hair, leather jacket, and a diet coke in hand as she sat on the designated bench. Evelyn recognized the face, although it wasn't tied to a particular memory. That meant she was at least local, some passing figure from the streets she might have brushed shoulders with at least once before. The sunglasses left no clues from the woman's eyes as she approached, which kept the echoes a bit more quiet. There were reasons they said the eyes were windows to the soul. Eyes could give away a lot about a person, and even Evelyn's own eyes had a tendency to reveal things from time to time. Right now, they probably revealed exhaustion, and traces of desperation.
"Noel?" She said, approaching the woman. Once she was acknowledged, she held out her hand. "My name is Evelyn, thanks for meeting with me. I hope you can help me..." She started and brushed her hair from her face, watching the kids momentarily as they shivered in the cold. The echoes analyzed the rather botched up play for a second, then returned their attention to the stranger. She took a stiff seat on the bench next to the memory eraser. Memory eraser... Even now it sounded too good to be true.
"So, I don't want to be rude, but I know this could be a long shot. I'm a mutant, and I've never been able to forget. But if you think it might work, or you think you could give it a try... I'm grateful you even came to meet me." Evelyn admitted honestly. Her words came out in a rush and she fidgeted with her gloves. It had been a long day, and the more she thought about memories she'd like to erase, the closer they lurked on the surface of her thoughts.

Ever since Evelyn was 13, she was gifted with a perfect memory. Gifted, and cursed, for every perfect sunrise was doomed to be darkened by a darker night. When she was younger, it was annoying, but not the worst thing she'd ever experienced. She relived bullies teasing her, she relived family arguments, and she relived school plays that droned on for hours. But it wasn't until Jensen was shot that she realized just how awful it was to never forget.
Joining the X-men had been the second time she realized just how painful a perfect memory could be. Fights with monsters were not temporary. Claws tearing through her skin, bones breaking, electricity stunning her body: all of those things came back on different knights, haunting her, forcing her to face them all over again. Even training sessions with other X-men added to the pain. While the Danger Room was meant to be a teaching aid, Evelyn could never forget the split second of pain as Saphirus' crowbar crashed through her skull. She never knew what it could feel like to die. But now, she could never forget.
Even small things haunted her like ghosts in the night. Arguments with Mirror, flickers of rage, moments of jealousy. Every time she thought she could get over something, it came back to haunt her, and made her more desperate for an escape. It seemed foolish, and dumb, to hope she could find an answer to her problem, but one day at work, the answer was delivered to the front counter.
An add in the paper stared up at her, and her heart skipped a beat.
Ever want to forget? To live in the now?
A professional memory wiper. Evelyn didn't care what it could cost, she tore the add from the paper and jammed it in her jeans. That afternoon, she called this 'Noel' to set up an appointment. Central Park, after her shift at work. She stayed up that night, filling two sketchbooks with nervous pictures, the memories she did like. Secretly, she hoped she could close her eyes and face what was there, ripping out the damaged pages just like she would with a sketchbook. This Noel was a professional right? She could erase the memories of even a mutant, couldn't she?
As Evelyn walked to the bench, she fiddled with her gloves and wondered. She didn't tell Mirror her plans. She wasn't sure it would go over well... In fact, she didn't tell anyone, which seemed a little careless, in hind-sight... If something went wrong, would anyone know? She had her ID and her museum name tag with her, so she'd probably at least get back to work. She'd have a lot of explaining to do one way or the other.
A flash of the crowbar raced through her vision and the determination stayed. One way or the other, she had to try. She wasn't sure she could live like this forever.

Evelyn had done quite a few things since she joined the x-men, but this was definitely the first time she knocked herself out with her own memories. To be honest, she wasn't sure how long she would stay unconscious, but when she finally came to she was in the back of an unfamiliar car, the driver carefully watching her from the front. Gawain and Kate were gone, which made her feel both relieved at sad. She shot David a rueful smile as she saw up and rubbed her forehead gingerly, though, and pushed that aside. Even echoes of memories brought a painful headache...
"How you feeling, Miss Evelyn?" David politely asked. Evelyn glanced out the window and leaned her head against the cool glass. Her hand still stung, but not quite so much as her head with playbacks still lingering in the edges of her thoughts.
"Been better." She answered and just left it at that.
Back at the mansion, she refused his help and walked herself to her room. She only stopped to kick off her shoes before crawling into bed and going to sleep. Days like today were the rare occasions when she was less afraid of her memories, and more afraid to deal with the reality around her. She just hoped she hadn't ruined the rest of the party. Gawain claimed to be a knight, but there was a lot of salvaging left to do that evening.

"User, Evelyn Summers. Execute training exercise, Tron." Evelyn felt silly yelling into the room, but her nervousness vanished as the room started to whirl with mechanical energy.
"User recognized. Training exercise 'TRON' initiating." The room responded, and slowly the room started changing around her.
It took a little explaining to get this program put together, but watching it come to life was worth the patience. Even putting up with the silly code name was worth seeing the grids fill the room around her, and she shifted the sai in her hands watching the 'lines' around her respond. The echoes slowly studied what was happening, tracing and responding to the visual guides being created. She stepped to the right, and the grids moved with her. It was like having a perspective grid painted in the world around her, and she had to resist grinning with excitement.
"Begin target practice." Evelyn ordered, and slowly, targets appeared in several spots along the room. Lightly tossing one sai then another, she finally threw the weapon, and it buried itself in the target. She was low, and slightly to the left, but hitting the marks was only half the work right now.
"Calculate." She instructed, and the room was silent for a moment before spitting out the information.
"Target: 31 feet away. Speed..." She moved to collect the sai while letting the echoes process the information. The speed was decent, the angle of release was a little low. She moved back to where she was standing and went to throw again. This time, she aimed a little higher up, and the sai clanged just to the left of where she hit before.
"Calculate."
The angle was slightly higher, the speed was close, but not consistent. She frowned slightly as she tried again, second sai clinking as it hit just centimeters from the first.
"Calculate."
Angle was the same, speed was closer. The echoes processed and noted the information, as well as the patterns of the grid around her. Throw after throw, she aimed, retrieved, and processed the information recited to her. Throw after throw, her accuracy improved, body corresponding the muscle memory and body control with the calculated results the room was giving. The process was tedious, but she enjoyed the challenge. Each calculation taught her more about her weapons, and more about the results she could get with them.
Eventually, Evelyn put away the Sai, and brought out some throwing stars to practice with. The simulated weapons matched the ones she bought for Mirror, and they felt realistic in her hands as she tossed them. Throw, Calculate. Throw, Calculate. The stars were harder to control than the sai, but with time, she learned to control the spin a little bit more, predict the direction, and study the movements. The information brought a headache to her mind, and the echoes buzzed trying to sort and and study what she was learning. Reading a few physics books didn't quite make her an expert in this, but trial and error was becoming her teacher. This speed+angle+spin brought this result. A change in spin brought such and such result. By the time she was done she was winded, exhausted, but delighted with the results she was getting. Closing her eyes, she could see the gridlines, see the throws, the results, and study. It wasn't much, but on the battlefield, it could be everything. Failed scuffles flashed through her memories, and lucky shots replayed as she thought about the new information.
Throw, Calculate.
The hours slipped by and the process wore on. Like the detective she was compared to, she charged onward in her pursuit of information. It wasn't a criminal, they were just throws. But they were still a mystery she was determined to unravel.

>>“I’m fine by the way. Thanks for asking.”
The voice carried through the convenience store, and Evelyn rolled her eyes, pieces of a burnt jacket falling away. "I'm sorry, ARE YOU OK?!" She yelled back, slamming the sai into the side of the horned mutant's head. The TWANG of metal on horn echoed through the room as the man staggered sideways, shaking his head to clear the ringing from his ears.
The fire mutant yelled, 'Mac' yelled for the counter, and a swing of the man's fist missed Evelyn's head. The echoes caught more movement that barely allowed her to back up as a bullet clanged off the shelf beside her. [Gunman, floor, front of store.] The sai she was holding was instantly flying from the hair, colliding solidly with the man's good arm. Gun and second sai went sliding across the floor, both stopping feet away from WereCat while the man screamed in pain. The echoes suspected he was sporting a broken wrist to match his busted shoulder.
Evelyn's attention was diverted a little too long, however, and when she turned back to the horned mutant her face was met by a backhanded blow that send her crashing into the shelf. Blood instantly started flowing from the cut that ran from her cheek to his forehead, forcing the silver haired mutant to shut her eyes, swiping a hand across her face in irritation. The cut wasn't deep, but face wounds bled heavily and made situations like these more tricky.
"You know, there are reasons you shouldn't hit girls.... the main reason..." Her fist went flying, slamming into his nose and knocking him backwards into the cooler with a crash, sending more glass to the ground. "Most of us hit back."[/b] A kick slammed into his stomach and he staggered sideways, throwing another punch at her. Evelyn listened carefully to the crackle of flamed, ducking to avoid it by inches, and swiping a hand across her face trying to clear the blood. Danger room sessions helped fighting blind like this, but it didn't mean she preferred it. Especially when the sprinklers kicked on, and the water created a white noise at the same time it helped was her face. Too many variables, too many fighters... the echoes weren't keeping up so well right now.

Rebooting sucked.
Reliving memories was never a pleasant experience, and vivid moments of pain along the way were draining. Evelyn hated sleeping for a reason, and getting knocked out was always WORSE than that. Saph may have been comfortable lounging, but Evelyn was stuck in her own head, going through a lifetime of crap she would never face again if she had the choice. It all ended with a realistic feeling memory of getting her head beat in with a crowbar... Needless to say, when she stirred, she was not the most happy camper.
Saphirus' response just ticked her off more, and needless to say, as sluggish as her brain was, it gave her the spark to do something that might have proved dumb in the long run.
Her leg kicked out, solidly connecting with the back chair leg, which snapped and started falling backwards. The Sai, which was close enough to grab, was in her hand in a second, and she she aimed the butt end of the object towards his shoulder. Whether or not this was her 'real' body or simulation at this point was hard to tell. Part of her hoped it was the real him. Her head was certainly feeling it realistically enough.
"Jerk." She snapped, stumbling to catch her footing as she backed away. The memories filtering through her brain still made it hard to see straight, but the echoes were leading decently with instinct to at least avoid a retaliating shot if he took one.

Having a brain that thought faster than normal had it's advantages, and disadvantages. Some of the advantages were quicker processing of information, and the ability to predict actions and reactions. Evelyn caught the moment as the crowbar went flying, and reflexively went to dodge. Unfortunately, but the time she was moving they calculated the 'off-centered' element, which sent her back into the path of the metal object.
The disadvantage of having a brain that thought faster than normal, was it wasn't attached to a body that could do the same. For a terrifying moment she could see the crowbar, sense the danger, but could do nothing to prevent it from colliding. The pain was only for a moment, as the 'kill' landed, the force shattering and racing through her mind.
At that point, something went a little wrong though. Saphirus would have likely noted it by the way her 'real' body buckled and collapsed backwards at the same time the 'simulation' her died.
'Death' information was much like 'knock-out' for her mind, but the force was much more volatile. The split second pain that would have discouraged most students from dying send the observant mutants mind into a very slow reboot. Body motionless, unresponsive, her brain struggled to whirl back into action, and the playbacks crawled to life.
One thought lingered before Evelyn was absorbed in her own memories.

Evelyn was not quite expecting the blow to hit, but when it did, there was a moment where she could 'feel' the sai strike her target, before the simulation ended and the mechanical voice explained the 'death' blow. She had to blink slightly. Somehow she was suspicious Saphirus held back. The echoes didn't think his actions quite added up with the speed he displayed earlier, but the point was effective, nonetheless.
He relayed the information he had stated earlier, and it was hard to suppress the irritation that rose. She had a perfect memory. Of course she was listening. If he had acted like it was real combat, it wouldn't have turned into a death blow, and she could have picked a better string of motions to disarm him or maybe knock him out. But even though she wasn't intentional about it, that had been a risk. Sometimes in fighting even accidents could have fatal consequences.
She shifted the sai in her hand, still quiet for a moment until her temper settled back down. "I'm ready." She said. She waited, watching for his move to counter, hoping to use the weight from his swing in a similar manner to dart in and disarm him. A pressure point on his vulnerable side might work....

Saph's counter wasn't strong, but the blow was still enough to make the echoes 'stutter' for a moment before collecting themselves. She processed the information he was saying though and prepared for the next attack, lightly side stepping to give herself a moment to stop the ringing in her ears. Head-shots were particularly risky for Evelyn, one wayward hit able to leave her leveled for a few hours. The more she took them the more away and cautious she was about the blows ever happening again.
Saph swung, Evelyn dodged this time, back stepping under his swing and aiming the sai for the back of his neck, partially exposed by the movement of his arm. He was quick enough she doubted she'd connect, but she was prepared to move outside of range this time, hopefully to avoid any more swings from the crowbar.
Her attack was more focused this time, her footwork a bit better. The echoes were processing and picking up on the suggestions, painting mental diagrams of suggestions on where to go, what to do. Warmed up and focused, she was getting a little better the more they fought. The echoes kept studying Saph, picking out habits he had while fighting, seeing which way he was shifting his weight, how fast he could turn, trying to identify blind spots. The only risk was letting herself focus too much on any of that analysis. Knowing where a blind shot was could only be useful if you were in a position to utilize it.

Leaving became somewhat difficult as Gawain stepped to block the door. Her emotions were bubbling in every direction, the echoes loudly clamoring in her head. She kept her face straight as Gawain talked, some of the frustration subsiding as he took her side. He was going out there with her. His girlfriend. She wasn't just 'someone' who cut her hand... He wasn't going to play games just for appearances.
The cloud of irritation started to dissipate, but then guilt just started to fill into all the cracks around her relief. The echoes could definitely pick up the emotions coming off Kate, and she started feeling ridiculously selfish for all the trouble she caused. She didn't have to see the picture on Kate's phone to know the person meant something to her. Just like Gawain meant something to Evelyn.
The problem with echoes was they created a sensation of empathy from time to time. She knowing when someone was upset or sad and seeing through masks... She had been in this world, maybe Gawain hadn't. But she knew the pressure of appearances and what they could do. Her parents gave her that sort of pressure growing up, and while she chose a different path, she didn't know Kate, and didn't know if that was possible. Was the party really worth all the trouble it was causing?
She was pretty sure it wasn't, but the echoes decided on a plan that could either work out or totally screw things up. "Gawain, it's fine. I don't even like being at these things anymore anyway, and PR doesn't matter... It still matters to Kate... You guys can go be at the party, make the most of it. Although, you've been at here a bit too long to really salvage the gossip... Unless you know, there was a medical emergency you were helping with. Just, you know, realize I'm staff, not your girlfriend tonight." They were either going to hate her, or it was going to help. One way or the other, she at least wasn't working the party tonight.
She needed a good memory... Knight shield to the head should do the trick. There was a flash of metal and a horse whiny of distress as a new group of soldiers came rushing into the room. This was suddenly a VERY crowded corner, as two medieval knights engaged with the American soldiers. At first she was grateful for the distraction. Then something metal struck her in the head...
Outside the door, there was a faint knock, and the curator poked her head inside. "Is everything all right? I was a bit worried..."
Even in a playback shield still hurt. Evelyn legs buckled and everything went very realistically dark.

>>"Kate. What do we do?"
So, the choice was deferred to Kate, which Evelyn was less than thrilled about, especially when she heard the plan. It sounded too much like her parents for her comfort, and the look that crossed her face was clearly still irritated before she composed herself. Like a sheet of ice, she buried her own frustration and straightened her dress. Whatever. She could tough out the night watching her boyfriend and another woman have a good time.
Friends, whatever. Like Mirror would be any less pleased watching her spend the evening with another guy, friend status or no. Memories sparked through her brain of past arguments, and the argument about Becca and baby-X replayed.
Kate's words spun through her head and the jealousy boiled again. "Took it upon ourselves to help a girl who cut her hand. It doesn’t look like what it is.”
A girl who cut her hand.
"Well I'm glad I can be the prop for your drama...." She grumbled then shut her eyes and focused on pulling back the echoes. Playback stopped spinning through her head, and the emotions disappeared from her face. For a moment her expression was positively icy, then it faded into her customer service smile that completely masked her irritation. Customer service at least helped her pretend to be friendly when she wanted to strangle someone.
"Well thank you both for your assistance. We should probably get back to the gala then."
