The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was rare when someone understood what it was like to never forget, but when someone did, it always seemed to make Evelyn a little sad. The only people who realized the burden of memories were those that already had painful ones, ones they couldn't forget. Memories were powerful things: they got you through hard times, made you stronger, shaped you. But memories could also be dangerous: taking away your will, breaking you down, making you sad. She never wished bad memories on anyone, but she couldn't help but feel somewhat relieved when someone understood. It meant something to her. More than people realized.
But she couldn't say anything, and he didn't, and she glanced back at the skaters. The echoes chattered slightly as she did and she chuckled slightly at their input. "They're in love, and it is somewhat blissfully, but they're not having such an easy time getting by. Their pants are worn, their jackets still summery for this cold weather. Second hand, thinning out, neither are wearing gloves. They're laughing, but you can see moments where they're sad. They're spending time here verses another date, a more expensive one. I bet this is just what they can afford." It was always hard for Evelyn to watch people during the holidays like this. Even with the problems she faced with her parents, she wasn't that badly off. She still had her apartment, even though she lived at the mansion. Life had given her money and in many ways, she was spoiled. She didn't have to go without like that, and wondered what she would have done.
She wondered what the kid next to her did. He seemed like he might be having his own hard time.

>>"What is it that you do, exactly?"
Evelyn pulled her knees up close and watched the kid for a second before answering, considering how to word her response, and how he would react to it. Some people freaked out about her powers, others didn't seem to mind, but she was always honest if someone asked. The memories part was sort of her own problem to deal with. The echoes though... well, they could be a little more invasive.
"Well, I do two things, actually. First of all, I'm hyper observant which means I pretty much notice everything. It's sort of like a fusion of profiling and detective work thrown together with extra...well, voices, in my head... I kinda call them echoes, but it's like hearing information from ... everywhere. Whether it's how many flowers are on a bush or when they're usually in season, or how healthy a relationship seems to be between two people... My brain is pretty much just a gossip." She rubbed her neck again, then put her hands back in her pocket. The echoes studied his body language. Would he move away, would he freak out? At least she wasn't a mind reader, but sometimes she felt like she was worse.
"Part two is I never forget. Most people start loosing details of their memories immediately, and short term to long term memory retention can be crappy. Me? I can shut my eyes, something from ten years ago looks the same as it would ten seconds ago. Makes it easy to remember stuff I've read. Makes it harder to forget stuff people've said. I think every mutation ends up being that way though: blessing and curse. Take what you got and learn to work with it though." Sometimes, the curse part could sort of suck, but she knew it wasn't going away anytime soon so she dealt with it. She grew up with her mutation at least. There was no resentment that she had 'turned into' a freak. She always was one.
She wondered if it'd been the same for him or not.

Evelyn considered his questions and shifted in the snow where she was sitting. "It was more of a dream manifestation I think... When the kid woke up they went away. I didn't really get a lot of their power details. That was before I really even knew who the x-men were, just that they were there to stop the cookie monster from mowing me down with cookies..."
At the mention of a giant Santa Evelyn laughed, but she nervously pushed her hair from her face as she did. "Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. I'm telling you, New York has some crazy stuff happening. While things can get intense in the moment, it's nice to be able to look back and laugh. I learn to just go with the flow. Thinking about it too much is just painful." Especially for her. The echoes already analyzed too much as it was.

The nagging in the back of Evelyn's mind continued as she approached the woman from the front of the Met. The echoes started filtering through known faces, eliminating based on body shape, height, deducing and trying to match with patrons who were common at the museum. Obviously, she knew her way around, which was something... Then as she turned to take a seat, Evelyn got a glimpse of the face, and the echoes were jerked to a halt as she finished their deductions.
Kate. Well, if that wasn't a surprise.
While Kate was a frequent at the museum, Evelyn mostly saw her from a distance. Avoiding customer service whenever possible and working mostly in the back, Evelyn didn't get to know many of the visitors personally, but Kate was one of the rare few she had reason to recognize. Although, their last meeting hadn't gone the best... Jealous, angry, Evelyn made a mess of the evening when she saw Gawain arrive at an event with Kate. Even now, slight echoes of those emotions moved through her, but they quickly dissipated. She trusted Mirror, and she knew Kate was just a close friend. That event was behind them, and hopefully any hard feelings would stay in the past.
Lingering at the base of the stairs, she leaned against the wall where Kate could see her, but wouldn't feel her space was being invaded. "The museum is still a little rough. Our restoration expert took some vacation time, but hopefully after the holidays she can touch things up more." Evelyn said professionally as she approached, clipboard in hand.

Evelyn hadn't expected her memories to have such a strong effect on Noel, but the other woman was clearly agitated. The way she was standing, her posture, the way she spoke illuminated her anger like it was a flashing beacon. It didn't mean it made sense to Evelyn though. Noel really didn't know Evelyn. Why would she be so mad about the memory?
>>"I'll take the rest out of Saphirus' face."
Memories of Saphirus' bad attitude and judgement passed through Evelyn's mind and she quickly held up her hands. "Please don't tick him off more... He already thinks I'm selfish and I shouldn't be an x-men. If someone tells him I erased memories of that training session he'll probably think I'm too weak to be an x-men or something." Or the blame could roll back to Mirror. This was something she had to try for her own personal reasons. If she had to deal with the memories, she had to deal with the memories, but forever giving up on sleep because of the playbacks would always prevent her from reaching her true potential. She didn't want to be weak, but if there was something she could do about it, she had to try.
Noel seemed to calm down a bit, but Evelyn wondered if she'd really let it side. There was little she could do about it now though. And if this worked, she honestly wouldn't remember ever telling Noel any of this. That was both a good and a bad possibility. "I guess we could always just end it before the 'to the death' part of things started. At that point it was less me learning, more just... being crappy... If there was a missing point there I'd probably just think I got hit and rebooted a little or something and wouldn't poke around with it too much..." She said thoughtfully. She nodded as Noel gave the rest of the instructions, then fished for her phone again. Leaving a note to herself at this point would probably be best.
Today you met with a memory eraser named Noel to help get rid of a more painful training exercise memory. Test to see if memory-erasing can work with your powers. If don't remember meeting, likely successful. If brain is busted and someone else reading this, probably not. She was tempted to add some note like 'Don't let Noel anywhere near Saphirus...' but she figured anything too wordy could risk re-sparking the memory and taking away their changes of this working. Taking a deep breath, she put her phone away.

>>"I might check this place of yours out, one of these days..."
Evelyn gave a shrug. She wasn't going to push him into it. Heck, some days she didn't really want to be there herself. All the mutants in one place made it hard to maintain sanity sometimes, and if he was anywhere near as socially awkward as she was, that was challenging. He lightened up slightly when she talked about the monster in the park, and she rolled her eyes, snorting in an unladylike manner with a laugh.
"Definately not kid friendly. The cookies the Cookie Monster spat up cut holes in the trees I'm pretty sure the park still hasn't recovered from, and Big Bird's feather stabbed me through the shoulder. My mutation has never really been offensive in a battle situation, so I was pretty lucky a few other mutants came to help. Weird things like that seem to happen all the time around here though." She mentally listed all the chaos she'd dealt with, including the firey mutant that broke into the convenience store the other day.
"I remember the days when the biggest worries in a city were getting mugged. Now I'm not surprised if someone busts through the wall of my work... Few weeks back someone made all the paintings come to life. Guess that's what happens in a city that's a mutant hub though." Another shrug. It was just a fact to her. Compared to most mutants, she was still pretty normal. She wasn't sure if she felt happy or bummed about that though.

At least some of the hostility seemed to be fading, but Evelyn could hear the doubt and stubbornness in the kids voice. Well, he wasn't the first mutant she'd met that wasn't too keen on living at a place with free food, as odd as it sounded. Considering one of her friends was a sewer monster, she had heard better reasons though. Well, heard reasons. She wasn't really sure what this kid's reasons were for avoiding it.
"There's two places, actually. Xavier's school is more my style, but heck, even the Sanctuary takes in mutants. There a little over the top for me, but I've met a few decent people who live there." She shrugged. Allison wasn't so bad, although Mirror and her had their differences.
"The school itself is really safe, it's more the x-men that end up getting in messy situations... And that's sort of a personal choice to join, really. Heck, I got into enough sticky situations before I lived there though. Ever seen what happens when Sesame Street monsters attack central part?" She laughed slightly at the memory. In hindsight that whole fiasco was much more amusing. Plus, it had introduced her to Mirror, even if they hadn't dated right away.

Evelyn shrugged, he had a decent point. Although the echoes were debating at this point whether he was referring to her, or to dogs, or to people in general. Maybe a bit of both. She brushed she snow from her jacket and laughed slightly at his remark.
"Trust me, I'm not exactly much for company myself. I've never been the customer service sort of person, that's why work usually lets me just work in the back. I don't really make the best first impressions." She gave a rueful smile and looked back at the frozen ice. "But I see things, I comment on them. Figure people may be mad at me in the moment but appreciate it in the long run. Or, something like that." She put her hands back in her pockets, the cold snow starting to sting against her fingers. Her jacket wasn't waterproof either. She could feel the cold under her butt starting to sink into the wool jacket.
"If you ever need a place to crash though, I'm serious, there are places around here that don't mind mutants. I'm sort of partial to the mansion myself, but to each their own. Think of it less as a nosy interrogation by a stranger, and more of an awkward welcome to the city and a flyer to the nearby attractions." She really needed to work on her pitch. If she wanted to stay an x-men she needed to avoid driving mutants away...The echoes kept buzzing though and with their endless chatter it was like letting a mob of socially awkward nerds give you social advice.

Fishing for information ran the risk of jabbing nerves from time to time. This seemed to be one of those times. Evelyn glanced over, the echoes noting the irritation in his eyes, and she sighed and pushed her hair from her face. "I'm just saying what I see. Body language says a lot about someone... Body curled inward, shoulders hunched, hood over your face... There are differences between being cold and being defensive, and people catch onto that. You know how they say dogs can smell fear? Sometimes I think people can do the same."
She glanced at the ice skaters, and back around towards the path. There wasn't much traffic this direction, and no one was really paying attention to them. The sai she carried pressed against her back slightly, metal warm where it had been pressed against her shirt, sapping heat through it from her skin. At least if something went wrong she had them on hand, but if the echoes were right, there wasn't a need. He seemed young, maybe a little defensive, but not hostile.
The echoes noted the scales, the color of his skin. Her guess was aquatic, not reptilian though. She couldn't see any gills, but that didn't mean he didn't have any. The echoes caught sight of the webbing on his hands though once the sandwich was gone and the slightly sharp teeth when he spoke, making her more certain in her assumption.

Pretty blonde girls didn't just approach shady and dangerous looking mutants, unless of course that girl was Evelyn, who had a rather obnoxious habit of getting to know dangerous mutants. She could see the body language of the stranger change as she spoke, echoes noting the snow, the shoulders, the readiness to run. She kept her gaze forward though, trying not to intimidate him. Even though she was cold she tried to keep her own body language open. She was with the x-men now. That whole, helping people, doing good stuff thing went with the territory, right? She wasn't just being nosy this time...
"Most people eat indoors in this weather though, unless they're trying to enjoy the open air. You don't seem to be enjoying it so much though..." She glanced over, eyes holding a more gray hue as she let the echoes do their own assessment, then glanced back at the skaters.
"People can be judgmental, but I've lived in this city for awhile, and sometimes the best way to get by is to just own your mutation. Don't be scared of it. There are enough of us in New York you'd fight more people standing up for you than going after you. Just saying." She dropped the 'us' into the statement intentionally, letting it linger, letting him wonder. She certainly didn't look like a mutant in obvious was like he did, but enough time around her and it'd become more clear how much she acted like one. First guess was almost always reserved for telepathy, but a telepath would know more about where he'd been, what he was doing here, and how he managed to get the food.
Well, how he managed to get the food might be easy enough to guess.
"I'd be careful though if you're into picking-pockets or stuff like that to get by... Considering there are shelters for mutants around here that are more than happy to feed someone, stealing is generally discouraged...." She chuckled slightly as the man fell on his butt, dragging his girlfriend with him.
Emotions washed across Noel's face, a mixture of confusion, disbelief, and maybe a trace of sympathy lurking in there somewhere. Ok, so getting smashed in the face with a crowbar wasn't the most usual memory for someone to have. The echoes noted the slight look for damage. Thankfully, the Danger Room didn't really damage her. Now, if only she could say the same for her brain.
While Noel wasn't judging about the crowbar to the face, Evelyn wasn't judging about the need for a kiss. Everyone's powers worked differently enough, she just pegged it as being part of the process. One kiss on the hand later, and the echoes noted the...odd behavior as Noel zoned out and put her hand to her face. Evelyn flinched slightly, piecing together the information in Noel's body language and what she said.
"I'm sorry, I didn't realize you'd see all of them... I can pay you more, if you need to, really, I just didn't think you'd see the playbacks of it too. And yeah...it happens like that for everything. I relive my memories when I sleep, so you can kind of understand why it's important to make the worst ones go away..." She found herself staring at Noel for a moment, then looked away, embarrassed. "I'm sorry I just... Do you see it, like, as clear as I do, when you see my memories? No one really gets it...They hear perfect memory and it just sounds like a cool thing to use for detective work or something..." She watched Noel carefully. She was half afraid she'd scare the woman off before the memory could go away.

Cash was the currency of choice, and Evelyn mentally counted what she had in her wallet. Enough to get through this, thankfully. Her bank would probably feel sad for a few weeks one way or the other though. She finished sending a text to Jensen, and another quick jot down of what was happening in a text to herself, while Noel did the same phone gymnastics. The kid by the nearest goalpost continued to shiver unhappily.
"Well, the memory I have in mind will be pretty easy to spot, hopefully. It was a training session... Pretty much anything from the point the first crowbar goes through my face to the end of the session..." She grimaced slightly saying it out loud. She tried to trace how many times the memory had replayed since then, and wondered if that could cause problems with erasing the core memory. If she got rid of the core, would the roots vanish as well? This was a test run, after all. No way of knowing unless they tried.
Once the price was spoken, money was exchanged, she prepared herself for the next step. The echoes chattered about their surroundings, but her focus was for Noel.

It was cold outside, but Evelyn couldn't bring herself to catch a ride home to the mansion yet. After half a day at work she was tired, but with no plans for the evening, the remaining daylight was tempting. During the colder months walks in the park were part magical, part frigid, but with the right jacket and boots she wasn't too bothered by the air. Her nose would regain it's warmth later, and her hands were content being shoved in her pockets. At least it wasn't snowing. It was easier to stay toasty when you weren't picking snowflakes out of your hair.
Few people seemed to really share her sense of adventure today, though. The park had the usual dog walkers and joggers, but the puffs of breath against the air deterred many from taking a casual stroll. The echoes lazily studied their surroundings, noting regulars, studying strangers. For awhile there was nothing really notable... At least, that was until they honed in on a figure in the distance.
He was seated on a snowbank, posture somewhat defensive, huddled over his food. As she drew closer it was evident he was enjoying the meal, but there was something else there. [Cold.] Well that wasn't news. [Guarded.] Again, nothing too interesting. He didn't seem particularly well dressed for the weather, and the hood over his head obscured his face. Each fact was noted, analyzed, pieced together. She was a few steps closer, now unintentionally focused on the figure. Young, guarded...eating hungrily, not too well dressed...
As she turned the corner she got a better glance at him and the echoes guesses were confirmed. Young mutant. She slowed and casually sat on the snowbank not too far away.
"I've never been in that deli, but I heard they make a good panini. Does it live up to the hype?" She said politely as she plopped down and stretched her legs out in front of her. She kept her gaze forward on the ice skaters, but the echoes were still studying him closely.

Hmmm. Well Evelyn would be good to get you pointed towards the mansion, but Tses would be amusing for dramas sake. We could do Evelyn for now, and later down the road have Tses and Chad post? Because if he's stealing in the city and she caught wind of it, she'd definitely see that as a challenge.
