The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

There were times Evelyn wished she had more useful powers, especially as she watched Gawain reappear next to her while Leo crashed into the railing. She could tell he was injured even before he remarked on his injured ribs. They came here for vengeance, but fear was starting to fill the corners of her mind. They were running out of options, and even by himself, the other mutant was formidable. He had killed CS. What if he took them next?
She didn't want to let it happen. They wouldn't give up without a fight at least. "If we don't come up with a plan soon, broken ribs might be the least of our problems..." Evelyn whispered as she sent the sai spinning through the air. It went through the railing of the fire escape, and struck home on the mutant's thigh. As the metal buried in deep, a roar of rage escaped the mutants mouth.
A loud, deafening roar...
For a split moment, there were no echoes.
The vibrations rattled down into the alley, and Evelyn dropped the star as she covered her ears in pain. Like a blow to the head, the noise scrambled her powers. Memories rushed to the surface, information crashed through her thoughts, and she stumbled backwards into a wall, trying to stay on her feet. Too much information....too much to process.

Even while Gawain asked for the other throwing star, Evelyn had taken aim and sent it flying through the air, burying into Leo's shoulder, which was about the only place it would stick. While it gave Gawain a good escape option, it also brought the mutant's glare straight to her. Blood puddled on the edge of the wound, and the growl rumbled down to where she was, bringing a warning. Evelyn reached for her sai, pulling one out and readying to throw it if she had to. While she preferred keeping them close, if he opened his mouth to screech at her she'd rather take the change to loose a weapon rather than get the brunt of that yell.
"We need to slow him down. A good hit to the leg might do the trick..." She flipped the sai, wondering if she could hit him from where she stood. Gawain was still in the fray though, which would risk him ending up in the cross fire. The sai wouldn't fly as fast as the stars, which could be risky.
It didn't make sense. Evelyn knew Sylar couldn't see, or saw differently than she did. He seemed to rely on other senses to get around in the dark, his eyes clearly adapted long past typical human sight. So the statement was jarring, confusing really. She could remember the memories that rushed through her head, but why did he see it? Her brain struggled with the new information, wanting to draw conclusions but resisting them. "How could you... I don't know... It's true, I do have memories of you, that are...frightening. But I have good ones too. I don't know how you saw them though. I wish I could show you the better ones..." Now she felt guilty.
There were two real possibilities here she had to consider: one, Sylar could read minds, and had seen what she her memories as she relived them. The playbacks were powerful, and she couldn't imagine what they would be like to someone who never experienced them. The other possibility though was somehow, she had shared the playbacks with him. She had never done something like that before, but powers did tend to grow in unexpected ways. Her perfect memory had arrived when she was thirteen, taking away the ability to dream forever. Was she going to be cursed now to share those bad memories with others? It was one thing to carry the burden, another to pass it off. That frightened her, perhaps even more than Sylar had.
"Memories... are terrible things...if you let them be. Sylar, everyone has moments they want to forget. For most people, memories will fade and loose strength with time. That doesn't happen for me. Things that frightened me will never loose potency. It's why I don't sleep much. But I've learned to see past the bad things. Every person had a bad side, a bad day, a terrible moment. Whether it's you, or Serena, or myself. But there are good things too. You only saw the monster from one moment in my memories. But you didn't see the friend who saved me, and you didn't see the friend I rely on for advice when other people don't really understand. I've seen your monster, and sometimes he lives outside your head. But you help me deal with mine..." She picked at her fingernails. She wasn't good at putting words together like this, but she desperately wanted to comfort him and take back whatever happened. He frightened her, but she had done the same to him. That was hard for her to deal with as well.

Standing on the ground watching Gawain fight was stressful. Forget stressful, Evelyn could feel her pulse all the way in her throat, thundering as anxious chills raced through her veins. She wanted to fight, do something, but getting any closer would just make an easier target for the mutant. Instead, she looked for the best place to plant the remaining two throwing stars. One would stay with her, in case Mirror needed a better get away. The other she would throw if Mirror needed a better place to attack from. She just had to find the opening.
The screech that was sent towards Mirror made Evelyn's feet tingle slightly and the echoes momentarily stopped. It was rattling: mentally, physically, and bordered on painful. To make it worse, it made the come give a squeal of protest in her ear. Leo snarled, turning to face Gawain before the next arrow could be fired. Evelyn could make out a small red stain on his back where the last stars hit, but it didn't seem to be slowing him down. Evelyn's fingers twitched, longing to use her sai. At times like this she wanted a better ranged weapon.
"I've got two left, we better make them count. Once they're gone I'm not going to be much use from down here though." She wanted to suggest something, but the echoes were still buzzing as they tried to come up with a strategy. There were no good areas to shoot from, no good way to box this guy in. If they could have chosen the fighting arena maybe they would have had better now. Right now, the rooftop was neither helping nor hindering.
When Mirror acted, Evelyn was already lining up for the next throw. As Leo turned to face Mirror, the metal star buried himself in the mutants back; his next roar was one of anger and slight pain. Mentally, Evelyn was learning: studying her enemy. But something didn't seem right. She just couldn't figure out what yet.
"Try to stay out of his direct line of fire. We don't want to find out what the full force of that screech does." Evelyn muttered into the com while throwing another star for Mirror to jump to. Range was going to be better right now, to reduce the potency of the mutants powers. But that also put her in a disadvantage since her sai were better up close and personal.
The nagging continued in the back of her mind. The damage to the bricks that looked like a weapon, not like something this guy would wield. Something about the crime scene... "Mirror, I think there were two attackers with CS. I'm sure this is one of our guys, he seems like he came alone this time, but we should watch his strategy. If he's used to having a ranged guy watching his back, maybe you can get a good shot at him when he's distracted or something." It wasn't much yet, but it was the start of a plan.
Leo, meanwhile, found the stars an annoyance at this point, but nothing he found seriously threatening. It was like a couple of kids poking him with sticks. In his throat, he was building up a roar, waiting for the right moment to unleash it.
The echoes weren't exactly up to the level of most mutant sixth sense, but sometimes, they were close enough. While standing in the alley, Evelyn could hear them jabbing about something that didn't quite seem right. A movement nearby, just out of the corner of her eye. Without thinking she reached for the throwing stars, and gripped them in her hand.
[Danger.] Simple, to the point. Maybe they didn't have to tray this guy after all. They wanted revenge? Maybe it was time to get it.
"Someone is here." She whispered to Mirror quietly, while pointing at another wall and mentioning something about the broken bricks. Not quite relevant, not what she wanted to point out, but it gave her the opportunity to pass one of the stars to Gawain. On the rooftop, Leo crouched, ready to strike. As he opened his mouth to roar, one of the stars struck the ground next to him, and the blast of sound went a bit high, but still managed to send the powerful reverberations into the alley below.
While the kid was running across the grounds, Evelyn made her way to the security office with a bag of chips and plopped in front of the computers. Like the god room in the Danger Room, the panel gave her control over the grounds and the ability to cut off invaders (or escapees in this case) without having to get too up close and personal. Which was good, when the kid decided to push a button on his gauntlet thing, and burst into flames.
Well, good thing they had a good sprinkler system...Not like this wasn't the first time someone decided to burst into flame around shrubbery. A few moments later the area was drenched with water that jetted from the ground with much more force than the average garden hose. When the flames were out, she turned it off and made sure the kid was okay.
Phoenix. Good to know. Hadn't seen one of them in awhile. Well, not since that one with the god complex who tried to burn down half the mansion, but that was another matter entirely...
She chomped a few chips and waited to make sure the kid would finish making his way off the grounds. Later she'd sketch out a detailed picture to hand over to CS to check the records for. If this mutant tried breaking and entering again, the reception wouldn't be quite as nice. But he wasn't quite wanted... yet... There were still some questions he hadn't explained and he was teetering on the guilty/innocent line.
Evelyn shut her eyes and searched he memories for the police reports they had received. Sifting through the crime scene data, looking for the first hand accounts. Sound, sound, sound... Finally she opened her eyes, her irises pure grey with the blue gone now. "There were reports of some loud noises. They said it almost sounded like a screech or a roar of some type, a loud yell.... Supersonic voice? Like a banshee maybe? That would explain why CS..." Her voice cut out and she took another breathe, focusing on the task at hand.
"Sound like that would be powerful against an ice mutant. The vibrations would shatter the ice, make it hard to defend against. Not to mention it's disorienting... Unfortunately, that would mean we'd need to be careful going after him. You wouldn't want to be caught in a mirror around a guy like that." Evelyn warned, frowning as she tried to think. "We have the throwing stars, those should be okay."
It was clear he was going to run before he actually darted for the window. Unfortunately for Evelyn, short of actually stabbing him with the knife or bashing him on the back of the head with the sai, there wasn't much she could do to physically stop him. She could have maybe thrown the weapons down and executed a football dive, but there were other options.
While he was diving for the window, she engaged the security features on the grounds with a security panel that wasn't too far away. Nothing lethal, but there were some good tranquilizer darts in some of the guns, and the floodlights would turn back on. She also overrode any other tampering with the devices unless they came from the panel she was standing at. By now she wouldn't be surprised if other x-men woke up. But until then she just had to tuck the kids knife away for finger printing, and clean up the broken window.

They were communicating. It was a start. He seemed quiet, guilty, upset. She just felt drowned in her own thoughts, her own fears. But those were slowly shifting as she listened to Sylar talk, watched him move. She was scared of him. How could she be scared of him? The images in her head didn't match up. She put a hand to her forehead and tried to think. There had to be an answer.
"I was, but I feel like... It doesn't feel right. You didn't do anything. I don't know why I felt afraid. I wish you could understand. You've had bad days, but this wasn't one of them."Have I grown so monstrous? She looked at him, and despite his attempts to keep a distance, she wanted to reach him. Help him understand. She stood shakily and took a step forward, trying to bridge the gap.
"Sylar, you're not monstrous. Whatever happened, it's going away. We have to figure this out. You're my friend, I promise. I just... I wish..." Her head hurt and she shut her eyes, sinking back against the wall. The echoes were still mingling with memories, playbacks rushing through the massive amounts of information. "I don't think it's just you... something wrong with me..." She whispered. He had said something earlier, responded. Almost as if...
"What did you mean when you asked if that was what you were? Sylar, what did you see?"

The flip evaporated Evelyn's curiosity, and her question was replaced with a squeak of fear as she cling to Carrick's neck. She let out a grumpy growl and squeezed her eyes shut, wanting to scold him but having a feeling that could make things worse.
"You're a brat." She finally squeaked. It didn't sound very authoritative. Then again, she was still more student than adult at this stage in life. Her brain buzzed with information as they tried to calculate how high they were. That just made Evelyn feel even queasier.

Evelyn smiled slightly at Serena's surprise, and shrugged. "That one is sort of a long story. Shorter than the terrible date program Sam tried to put in here... But you don't have to worry about that. We'll just pull up a simple training sequence. Basic targets, more like a shooting range." She paused to tell the computer what to do, then waited as the room started to shift. A table with some weapons appeared to her right.
"You want to try anything? Sometimes it's nice to work with an actual weapon other than your powers. And in your case, it'd probably be a little less draining..." Evelyn suggested, picking up a pair of sai as the room filled with different targets and waited for their queue to start.

Evelyn smiled politely as Kate talked. While the girl said she understood, Evelyn had a small bit of doubt at that statement. In many ways, she felt it was hard for anyone to really understand. Crazy dreams, voices in your head. That was just the tip of the ice burg. But Kate probably had her own daemons. Most mutants did. It leveled the playing field between them in many ways.
"I think it would have been easier to just deal with the voices. The memory thing makes things a little more complicated, although it makes me useful around here at least. Especially with all the restoration going on..." She glanced around and frowned slightly with a sigh. "Dreams...That is one thing I do miss having. Crazy or not." She paused and realized she was rambling than blushed. "Sorry, it's been a long day. Sometimes it's nice to take off the customer service face for a minute, I didn't mean to ramble."

Her mouth twitched, and the irritation steamed from her as she tried to focus. She wanted to knock that arrogant smile off his face. It was times like these their friendship seemed questionable. Were they friends? Sometimes he just seemed like a cat batting around a mouse for his own entertainment. Not that she was a mouse anymore. She had claws of her own.
The echoes caught the movement and the sai flashed, catching the energy in a clock, but one of the jabs struck home. She sliced back with the weapon though, and threw out a kick for good measure.
"I've been training with him, yes. And some other x-men. You can mock me all you want, but I'm proud of what I've learned with them." She snapped defensively.
