The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Knife. Point for the echoes. Evelyn put one of the sai back in their holster, then picked up the knife while letting her powers keep a close eye on him. It would almost be amusing to see him try something. She had grown past the damsel in distress she might have been once upon a time. Some life or death situations, a hunt for vengeance and a power growth or two could do that for you.
"C it is. So, care to explain yourself? Most mutants don't break into power friendly schools unless they are actively looking for trouble." The word "mutant" threw itself in there with the aid of the echoes. Kid sets aside his weapon, yet doesn't seem nervous to have someone armed in front of them? Clearly, he had a back-up plan, and since she had already ruled out the 'concealed weapon' sort of idea, that left mutant: someone who tended to be permanently armed. It would be easier to do this in the light, but she wasn't quite sure where she wanted to steer this guy anyway. Kitchen would just give him more weapons if he felt like it, living room might be an option... She half-wished Mirror was here to deal with this guy. Her girlfriend had much easier methods of keeping someone locked up for interrogation. But unless Angua got wiff of the strangers scent, it was pretty late and the mirror-walker's appearance was doubtful now.

I broke into the wrong house.
Evelyn nearly laughed out loud, but she controlled herself. Apparently, he was worse at lying than breaking and entering. "A male in his forties that steals cars? Well you've pegged a good portion of the New York population, although you've missed the rather obvious fact that we're one of the only mansions out this direction. That and you're a terrible liar." The echoes didn't even need to note the slight facial twitch when he picked a bad lie, or his guilty body language. His eye cues, voice, everything...it all screamed he was trying to just talk his way out of this.
There was something dangerous about this guy though. While his first instinct was the lie, the echoes caught the more subtle movements: the way his eyes lingered on her weapon with interest and not fear, which suggested some familiarity with them. The way he paused when she first spoke, perhaps considering attacking before giving his excuse. He was being a little foolish now, but she wasn't underestimating him. "You have a few choices right now, so let me break it down for you. You can A) try to run away. Which won't get you very far because this is my house and I'm going to know exactly which end table you're going to slam into. And when you do that, waking up the other mutants in this house, well... lets say some of them are more of the shoot first, ask questions later variety. You'd find yourself in time-out in some inanimate object before you could say 'guy stole my car'. Then there is B) you could fight back. But I'd hate to stab you, plus that creates more noise, and brings the same result is option a. Or there is C) you can hand over your weapon. I'd say...knife, based on your familiarity with close combat weapons, somewhere easy to reach in case you got jumped. Plus you're trying to be stealthy, and bringing along a gun doesn't really help with that. Either way, put it down, maybe we'll talk and I won't let one of the other x-men lock you in burglar jail. Our way." The echoes buzzed trying to figure out where the weapon would be, waiting for the subtle twitch in motion, although it was really hard to make that out in the dim hallway. The further he backed away, the darker it was getting, so even the dim light from other rooms was muted.

Being an insomniac meant being up for a really long time, and often, being really bored. Having a perfect memory sort of increased that lack of entertainment. Reading a book or watching a movie would ingrain the information in her head for eternity, regardless of if it was good or not, and she hated taking that sort of risk. Goodness knows she would never forget some of the crappy superhero movies. Yeah, like they all ran around in catsuits for the heck of it.
Tonight, however, something seemed...off. Alarms occasionally tripped from time to time, but they never seemed to just turn themselves back off. Especially floodlamps. Some of the other x-men might have brushed it off, or missed it altogether if they were tired enough. But Evelyn was always suspicious, especially after some of the baddies they had running around. Frowning, she kept her eyes and ears open for anything further. It wasn't long for the echoes to take not of a small change in one of the rooms.
[Window closed. Fibers. Intruder.] The information rushed through in rapid succession, and Evelyn reached for the sai on her back. Well, it wouldn't be a boring night after all.
Sneaking up on someone sneaking through your house wasn't the easiest task, but Evelyn did have the advantage: she had a perfect memory. She didn't need to turn on lights to navigate the hallways, and the echoes were tracking the changes along the way. Even if he was quiet, she knew this school better than anyway. She couldn't be perfectly stealthy: her powers were in her brains, not her ninja reflexes or something like that. But she at least managed to catch up and hissed when she was close enough, weapons ready. "Unless you're some type of clumsy teleporter, I'm pretty sure you're not lost. So I suggest you have a good reason for being here." She remarked calmly.

Hi guys, I'm a little slow on posting right now, there is a lot stressing me out IRL and it's making it hard to keep my muse up. My fiance had a death in his family and I'm trying to be there for them, plus I'm still trying to find work and sort out this whole being self-employed thing and this has been a rougher month. Should clear up once September hits, but if I am a little distant, just trying not to drag the drama here.

As they stepped into the alley, Evelyn tensed slightly as she stood and looked around. A small trace of fear wound it's way up her spine as she gazed around, taking in the damage, although much had already been cleared away and documented by the detectives. It was hard to even feel flattered by Gawain's compliment. She wanted to believe her powers could be useful piecing this together, but she had her own doubts. Being called "Holmes" as a teasing gesture was one thing. Living up to the name was another thing entirely.
"They picked up a bit...although there may be clues here the police might not have thought to pick up on. The damage to some of these buildings, for instance... Not all of this is blunt force damage. If you look at the cracks and structural distress, some of this is more reminiscent of an earthquake, or something similar. Vibration, seismic? It could say something about their powers..." She scanned the walls closer, letting the echoes think. There were smaller nicks and breaks where stray objects had flown. Not wide enough to be a bullet. Maybe a knife? It was closer to the damage from her throwing stars than other weapons she had seen. She frowned, trying not to feel queasy when she spotted a few stray blood stains. Despite best efforts, this was still a crime scene, and time hadn't taken that away yet.
"Plenty of water damage. He was obviously fighting back." It was hard to breathe. She wanted to stay detached from it, but the anger was rising. Focus... She told herself. They needed to sort out who did this. She needed to think of trajectories, map out the scene. What happened...

The more she breathed clean air, the more the poison lost it's hold on her. It was slow, but enough to make her realize how guilty Sylar felt. She didn't want him to leave like this. He hadn't done anything. Maybe she was afraid. Maybe it was just her fault. She held out her hand again, trying to make him come back.
"Please Sylar... Don't go like this. We need to figure this out..."Figure this out... Something was wrong. She had to solve it. She had to figure out what was causing the problems. I'm like poison to you...
Poison. Poison?
"Sylar... you...you changed today. Maybe, something else happened. And... and something happened with me... we just need to figure out what." She held her head in her hands, trying to make sense of things. She rubbed her temples, a headache growing.
"You know me. I wouldn't...I don't....things have happened, but..." She sounded like a broken record. But she was desperately trying to communicate with him. "You're my friend..." She finally stammered. Even if he didn't make sense of anything else, maybe he would get that.
Evelyn nodded at Gawain's response, and mentally went through a list of the information they knew, and options on how to go from here. Deciding to teach someone a lesson was one thing, but knowing where to find them was turning into a different problem. She paused, looking across the street at some of the local stores.
"If we start where he was at, maybe one of the stores saw something, or a camera caught what the guy looked like..." It would have been easier to ask the other x-men, but this operation was somewhat on the rogue side of things, which made it a little harder to do that.

The Mansion was secure, and with the sense of duty relieved, the anger had returned. Maybe it wasn't the X-man way, killing, getting revenge. But after what happened to CS, Evelyn didn't care. She justified it, saying there was a bad guy, and they needed to take care of the threat. But in her heart, she knew there was an underlying, somewhat darker desire. You didn't just kill and x-men, cause that much pain, suffering, and expect to get away with it. Whatever the reasoning, the result was the same:
Hunting.
And Mirror was beside her.
It was hard to tell if Mirror felt what they were doing was right. Evelyn still had trouble herself. but regardless, something had to be done. Not just any mutant could take out CS. It was dangerous, but part of her was still convinced the attack hadn't been fair. If CS was on his game, he would have won. They must have done something, ganged up on him, anything. CS wouldn't go down without a fight. Mirror and her worked good together, they could handle whatever this mutant was.
She hoped.
The doubt didn't linger long as the pain and anger returned.
"Do we know what this guy looks like?" She remarked as they scanned the city, looking for signs of the mutant. Her sai were strapped to her back, and hopefully Mirror brought the throwing stars.

Somewhere in her mind, Evelyn knew something was wrong. But the fear was suffocating her, drowning her thoughts, her powers. As Sylar approached, she whimpered, readying for an attack. She had somehow managed to get both sai, holding them tightly, but her muscles wouldn't move to strike. She couldn't hurt him. It didn't feel right.
And then he was carrying her towards the surface. She could feel herself scream, then clamp her mouth shut and clutch the weapons. She wriggled for freedom, but there was still a level of restraint. She didn't want to hurt him...
Then she was outside, the smells of the sewers vanishing and her brain trying to process where she was. Sylar was talking, but she could only drop the sai and pull her legs close, shivering and cowering, mentally overwhelmed. Her own power growth flickered on and off. She tried to breathe, gulping in the air, but the toxins were still heavy in her bloodstream.
"Echoes, not echoes...doesn't make sense, just doesn't make sense..." She found herself muttering into her legs, tugging on her hair and trying to piece it together. He was snarling at her, no, he was talking. He was saying something, but none of it seemed clear. It was like when she talked to that girl who had the power to make people forget. Her powers were hitting a brick wall, thrashing to get through.
"Go... I mean, don't go..." Playbacks rushed to the surface, older memories to try and evade the fear she was feeling. Sylar as her friend, Sylar having pizza, Sylar as someone she wanted to be around, despite being dangerous. She reached out a hand towards him, despite the terror, trying to make him understand. The fear was still there, but he was her friend. It didn't feel right being afraid. He hadn't done anything this time.
Evelyn nodded slightly as Serena agree, then waved a hand down the hallway. She started moving back towards the Danger Room, waiting for Serena to follow. "You'll have to be a careful when we train though. It won't let you get seriously injured, but scratches and other smaller injuries are definitely real. It's good practice for the outside world though. Which is odd, considering I've fought aliens in the Danger Room..." She shrugged, and let it go.
As they reached the room, she keyed in her ID, and the doors swished open. A few more instructions and the Danger Room prepared for a basic training sequence. Her sai appeared on a nearby table. No use using her real ones and risking breaking them in training. "So...any preference on how we train? Usually it just throws you into a simulation and lets you adapt to it." She tried explaining. Mirror was much better at doing this whole instruction thing.

The echoes could sense the anger, the frustration, the pain. It mixed in the air and floated around the roof tiles. It filled her thoughts and her head and cut off the air from her lungs. She could feel it from Gawain, and she could feel it in her own heart.
"I thought I knew a thing about losing people."
Evelyn stared into the darkness with him, and sighed. "I don't think anything could prepare us for this..." She shut her eyes, and tried to navigate through the playbacks and thoughts. The anger brimmed again, and she let it sit on top of everything else. Anger felt better than sadness. At least she could do something to ease it.
"It doesn't matter who it was. We can't bring him back, but we can make them regret doing this. I don't care if it's not what the x-men would do, but they're out there, and they're getting away with this right now. Maybe right now we have to sit here, but later..." She paused and looked away. She second guessed saying everything, trying to control her temper again. But she felt like a purpose was settling into place. Something had to be done.

The longer she stayed, the harder it was for Evelyn to concentrate. Sylar's words were hard to comprehend when all she could hear was menacing snarls and growls. The echoes struggled to analyze the situation, and the playbacks were melding memories with imagination. She could feel the pain of Sylar's past attacks, the other sewer monster, and the fear of being trapped in the tunnels. [Run!] The echoes screamed, but her legs couldn't seem to move. She heard one of the sai clatter to the ground as she finally reached the ladder. She sank to her knees, clinging to the metal but unable to pull herself up towards daylight.
"Go away, just go away..." She whimpered quietly, shutting her eyes and turning her head away. The rational thoughts were disappearing again. She couldn't remember what they had been talking about, or why she was hear. All she could think was she had to get away, but couldn't force herself to move.

Evelyn considered the question, but still felt herself shaking her head. "Maybe something happened beforehand. We don't know exactly what happened." She wished she had scene where everything had happened. The echoes could have pieced together more. Somehow, the analytic calmed the grief. But she couldn't find many answers.
"And are we sure it was only one person?" She watched the trees, waiting, wondering. Just one person couldn't do this, could they?

Evelyn couldn't resist a smile, although she wasn't entirely sure it was appropriate to smile at this point in time. Something about the situation just felt ironic enough she couldn't resist though. "It seems we're always crossing paths at odd hours. I'm doing fine, just keeping busy. I don't sleep much either." She remarked, in case Serena didn't know.
She motioned over her shoulder in the direction she had been heading. "I was actually thinking about training a little bit. Sometimes a little workout helps me either wake up or feel tired enough to sleep. I'm sure no one would mind if you wanted to join me." She found herself suggesting. She didn't know how Serena would do in the danger room, but they could always put it on an easy setting. That was assuming Serena wanted to go though. It was pretty late. Evelyn was sort of an oddball wanting to practice training at odd hours of the night.
